The life of a mutant has never been easy, Some seeing their powers as gifts while others see them as a danger to society. Those who are born with such abilities are sometimes able to coincide with the general population as any normal person. Especially since some mutants can conceal their true identities and live a normal life. Yet not all mutants have the choice to be seen as “Normal” due to physical mutations and integrate into society. Where none mutants live in constant fear that those who possess such unique characteristics can do unimaginable things, trying to control what can't be controlled. Including the fact that humans also fear the unknown, not knowing what capabilities mutants have and the intentions they have when using their powers. A living weapon that can do what they choose and become something unstoppable from normal methods. Limiting mutants to the choices available to them, hide who they truly are to fit in or accept it and face the harsh truth of what it meant to be a "Mutant".

Leading to a division between Human and Mutant, two sides of the same coin. Tearing family and friends apart, as the general public believed that having a Mutation was more or less an illness. Believing that it can be cured and controlled, but not everyone followed that ideology. Numerous mutants believed it was a gift, an evolutionary trait that set them above and beyond the average human. Seeing that their abilities made them better, stronger, and a sign of power. That they weren't just freaks with abilities but something much greater. Pushing the division between humans and mutants farther apart, where pro mutant groups. Such as the Brotherhood of Mutant, led by "Magneto" who had a much more straightforward and aggressive way of coexisting with humans. Spreading their concept of "Mutant and Proud" and that those with such powers should not hide, but to show who they truly are. Contrary to the X-Men under the leadership of Professor Charles Xavier, following his teachings of controlling their gifts and the intentions of using them. Learning about who they are to become a contributing citizen to society regardless of what they can do and understand that it is a part of them but does not define them. ​

Over many years of fighting between the Humans and Mutants both directly and indirectly, it has never solved anything. If at all it has worsened the misconception of the Mutant Race. False accusations of labeling the whole community as a threat. Saying they are a detriment to both humans and society, an unidentifiable threat. That all mutants are a risk to the human race. Escalating into the development of Sentinels with immense support from the public. This was a chance to keep mutants under control and reduce the chances of mutant related attacks. Adding more pressure onto the mutant community, having a new threat among hostile humans that have been out to get them. In the early 1970s, the Sentinel Program by Bolivar Trask was just basic surveillance and detection of mutant. Heavily affecting the mutant population as some believed this would bring more unity because humans would no longer have to fear them. In reality, it did the exact opposite mutants felt oppressed and discriminated, angering them and protesting against the sentinel program. Spiraling out of control, going from demonstrations to riots. Mutants vandalizing and taking personal attacks on the human population. Taking the sentinel program farther than ever by 2016, from surveillance and safety precautions to extermination of the mutants and those that even carry the X-Gene. Bringing up a new civil war, splitting the people in half. Humans were required to turn in any mutants into the Government and provide any information on any leads to find them. Unifying the mutants more than ever, no longer factions or groups to distinguish their differences but bringing them together. Creating the underground network of "The Free Mutants" helping free captured mutants, move mutants to safe havens located in other countries, and leading operations on Trask Facilities to slow down their progress. Hoping to eventually end the sentinel program, once in for all.

From constant fighting over the years, the cities across the United States have been turned into nothing but ruin. Building after building destroyed and left with nothing but rubble and the concrete. Humans were separated and living in safe havens, just like any normal functioning city. Away from all the chaos, miles and miles away. Safe and sound from being a casualty of war, allowing for sentinels to be as aggressive and destructive as necessary to eliminate or capture certain mutants. Doing any means necessary to make living conditions and the lives of mutants much more difficult, turning off water supplies in mutant related areas. Disabling all sources of electricity, radio interference for impossible communications outside of the area or country, constant Sentinel surveillance 24/7 and sleeper mutants to turn against their own kind. Fighting was inevitable, there was no choice as a mutant either fight back or surrender and face deadly experimentation. Each city had major Trask facilities holding up hundreds sometimes thousands of mutants captive. Majority of the time kept alive for experimentation or used to help the human cause, brainwashing mutants to use. Causing massive battles to take place everywhere, from certain mutants having raw devastating power enough to bring town neighborhoods. Living the life of a mutant in the year of 2020 meant you were to hide, run, or fight to avoid becoming just another experiment.​

Although some humans were willing to risk their lives to help mutants, not every human believed that. Majority of them fully supported the Sentinel Program as long as it secured their own personal safety and the human race. The hatred towards mutants was at its peak, blaming mutants for the destruction and downfall of the United States. Using the actions of the Brotherhood of Mutants as a reason for all mutants to be captured, experimented, or killed. In addition to most crimes happening with the help of mutants or mutant like assets, further adding more fire to the flame. The development of sentinels currently has an advanced A.I capable of assessing and analyzing situations. Following and learning mutant patterns based on their abilities. With state of the art technology to differentiate human and mutant, as far as scanning a person who carries the X-Gene. Sentinels have capabilities of flying, running, climbing, and fighting. Height varying an averaging about 15 feet tall, designed and constructed to be indestructible. Rumors were spread of a new sentinel being developed to be made invincible, adapting to mutant abilities. Still not created or if proven true, the sentinels are still accompanied by humans. Even though they are reliable technology isn't human, meaning Trask troops in groups ranging from 4 - 15 soldiers are with them at all times. Equipped with anti-mutant bullets and regular bullets, along with advanced body armor. Capable of adapting to specific mutant like abilities. Leaving the humans to an all time advantage in the war against mutants.
