Royal Chambers

Settled into bed easy and as comfortable as she could be she reached out to Chap holding the warforge’s cool hand. “Thank you Chap, you have done well by me today, Thank you,” With a caugh she releases his hand to cover her mouth. “Will you please let my husband and the cleric’s in when they come.” Gasping in a breath she tried to laugh, “A silly late summer cold everyone is in such a tizzy.” Managing a smile she rests her arm over her stomach resting her eyes a moment before looking to Blaze. “Don’t you worry about me, I’ll be fine, we have the best healers in the nation. Many trained by my husband’s own brother.” With a not she smiles, “I do apologize that I won’t be able to show your masterpiece off tonite.” Giving Blaze’s hand a squeeze they are Interrupted by King Arenthas slipping Gregor’s grasp and disregarding his warnings that the illness might be contagious.

“Haddie,” His voice shaken as he slipped into Chaps place seating himself upon the bed taking her hand and pressing his forehead to hers. “You are burning up, why didn’t you tell me you were sick, we pushed you too hard for this party, I knew it.” The Queen shook her head, bones aching as the fever grew uncomfortable. The cleric’s converged upon the couple after giving them their moment. The King’s guard left in the stairs eyeing Chap and Blaze as they exited. Gregor got on their heels towards the Chamberlain’s office as well.

Glinn basically freezes is place as his mother gets close and gives them a direct order, only being freed from this spell by Tilly's voice inside his head."Right after you." He motions towards the chamberlain's office, and follows the halfling with a stern walk, a huge contrast to the lively pace he had moments before. "I just hope this doesn't blow up in our faces."

Chamberlain’s Office

The Chamberlain bursts into his office and begins writing down many things. He himself could not fathom the onset of the suddenness of the queens illness. He needed the others testimony to sort together the story he too distracted by the queen’s well being himself to gather any signs other than the oddness of it.

Waiting for all to enter Allione settles into his seat hands folded over his paperwork as he rubbed his temples. The sound of the uproarious conversation from the main hall gave him a headache knowing the rumors that would spill from castle walls like an over drawn bath.

The first to enter his office would see him scribbling once more trying to sort his thoughts as the wave of sound came from the hall as the door opened. “I do believe you are right Chap.” Allione didn’t look up his quill snapping in his shaking hand at the sound of Lialeth’s voice as she addresses the hall of gathered guests.

“Good people of Alevaria, do not fret.” Lialeth smiles sweetly with a matronly aura, but those who knew her might find this display quite disturbing as she spoke in a sweet sing song voice. “There has been a bit of a miss understanding, the boy who witnessed the Queen did not know of her current state and panicked unnecessarily.” She chuckled briefly. “You see the announcement your King wished to share with you, is a child will be born first in over a century will be born into a peaceful era for the Alevarian people.” A cheer raised up drowning out the lingering whispers and chatter.

Once all had entered Allione looks up from his papers and stands. “I need to know exactly what everyone saw about the events that just transpired and I need for you all to swear an oath of silence on the matter. The Empire will do anything to break free of this treaty we propose showing weakness. Such as a queen fallen ill, they will take advantage. What say you, do I have your word.”

Varnis entered the room following right behind the chamberlain. Stepping into the room he felt somewhat less nauseous now that they were away from the growing crowd. The party was definitely over but there were more pressing matters to attend to at this point “You have my word, I didn’t see what transpired but from my perspective it seemed as if the queen had just fallen down. I have no knowledge beyond that as I was caught up thinking about my previously paid for services”

Chap focused, thinking back to the very recent memory, "You and I reached the Queen's chambers together where I was assigned to be her ward, Blaze had just finished her garments. Blaze and I walked behind yourself and Her Majesty, we discussed her beautiful garment and I inquired about the possibility of acquiring my own - as you know, you are what you wear, Chamberlain."

"The torches seemed to dim as you passed them, not an entirely uncommon occurrence from the breeze caused by walking, however thinking back it seemed stronger than would typically be expected. The queen fell and, as is my duty, I rushed forward to aid her - and yourself - in standing. Blaze assisted me in looking over the Queen and he identified the fever which seems atypical for the season."

"Glinn cast some spell, a man," Chap scanned the room to pointed to Rabert who was no where to be found, " who appears to be missing approached with a hand on his hilt. The king arrived, and you directed me to take the Queen to her quarters."

"I carried her there, Blaze close behind. We did not speak of much, mostly I said only words of comfort, hope and support to Her Majesty. I folded back the sheets, helped the Queen with her pillows, and waited for the King, Gregor, the King's Guard, and the clerics to arrive."

"When they had, Blaze and I made our way here, where we are currently. That is the complete and accurate order of events to the best of my knowledge and memory, from just before meeting with Her Majesty to this moment." Chap smiled, pleased that he'd done good work both protecting the Queen and accounting for the time of the incident. It likely surprised most of the gathering that he made no effort to breath, nor had any pauses in his speech. Careful observation of the warforged showed that he in fact did not breathe at all, and his voice seemed to be quite spontaneous.

Rabert made his way down the stairs to the Main Hall.

Seeing his sister looking the other way, he ducked in another direction and found himself near a serving girl carrying a tray of beers.
Shooting her a warm smile "Ah you are a sight to behold for someone with a thirst. And the beer is most welcome too." He winks at her and reaches for a couple of tankards "I'll just take those. Thank you."

Rabert downs the first beer and swaps it with a fresh one off of the tray.
"Well this has been most pleasant. I hope to see a lot of you tonight"

He turns an walks away scanning the faces of people in the hall.

Allione nods looking over the others counting as he meets each of their eyes, before moving form around the table to the doorway. Opening it a crack he speaks to a page who had let them in sending him off to retrieve Rabert. “While we await our last witness is there any further testimony. Gregor, you were ahead of us with young Lord Mystralath and your Butler. Had any of you anything to report outside what Chap had noticed?” Allione moved back around his desk taking up writing again, but he was certainly listening.

As Rabert spoke to the serving woman the Chamberlain’s attending page comes up behind him a short youn man with a dusty brown mop of curls and large human ears. He had yet to grow into them, but one could wonder if he ever would. The serving woman chuckled as Rabert flirted but flitted away to other guests before giving giving him indication that she was interested. As Rabert turned around looking over the boy’s head the page cleared his throat and with a squeaky multi tonal voice he relayed that Rabert’s presence was requested by the Chamberlain the page then leading Rabert straight to the room.

Blaze sat in a chair in the office in stunned silence. After Chap had very effectively recounted the last few minutes, he tried to think of anything that might've been odd before they had met in the hall. "She seemed to be fine while I was helping her dress," he added, "nothing her being with child didn't explain." He leaned fotward, fidgeting with his claws. He would prefer to be able to work or medtate at times like this, but his attention was clearly needed here.

Rabert nervously stepped into the room. He had discarded his beer on the way. This was not the place or time for it.

Half bowing to the Allione "I have come as requested sir. How may I be of service?"

Looking at the other in the room, he recognised them as being the people around the Queen when he had gone back to the hall

Gregor scratched his stubbled chin, “I do actually have something to go along with what Chaperone here has said.” He moved up to the Chamberlain’s desk. “The disturbance in the torches, they are of magic make to constantly shed light. They carry a specific core of magic, in inspecting one of the torches it seems there was a orb of scrying hidden within the flames light, hiding its detection. It must have transferred itself from torch to torch following your path down the hall until her majesties final collapse. This leads me to believe that whomever was watching, may have been anticipating our Queens sudden ailment.” Folding his arms the older looking man pondered. “This ability, scrying is not supposed to be so versatile, it worries me for one to have such a control over the arcane.”

Allione shook his head and rubbed his temples then scribbled some more down as each of them spoke. “I need to send a messenger to retrieve Michaelis, he is our leading expert in the arcane” Allione mumbled to himself, scribbling some more he scraped together an order. Gregor lifted his chin raising a finger to interject. “We cannot relieve the Karthagans of their escort without good cause, they will know something is wrong.” Allione sighed pulling the older looking man into the corner. The two mumbled back and forth to each other arguing their points, until Allione conceded. “Fine, we will do it your way; I will get the council’s approval by morning.”

Clapping his hand on Gregor’s shoulder looking to the group of witnesses he had gathered, Rabert entering the chamber just as he opens his mouth. “Ahh, So good of you to join us Rabert, just in time to volunteer.” Allione rounded the table turning to Blaze, “Sir, I am afraid we must ask of you a great favor. You came with much of your wares on behest of the queen and it is from great concern for her we ask this of you.” Allione folds his hand. “Blaze, we ask that you allow us to use your reputation to travel into Karthegas under a ruse of baring gifts. We need to retrieve Mikhaelis, his majesty’s brother, from their lands. I need you to travel with our newly appointed ambassadors across the Blackwater Sea and present our gifts to their Empress. Meanwhile,” He turned to Glinn and Rabert with a thin lipped smile. “Our ambassadors Lord Mystralath and Lord Crawphens here will make good impressions towards the Empress and take Mikhaelis’ place as escorts to the Princess Lysenthia as she travels to Alevaria via caravan.” His voice was firm and deadly serious implying their refusal would not be in their best interest. Turning from the lordlings to Chap he straightened. “Chap, I task you with the protection of these men here, you are to travel to Kartha as their guard,” Allione gestured towards the group, “and bring Mickaelis’ back.”

Gregor waited for a pause from the chamberlain. “Allione, I wish for Tilly to travel along with them, he has many talents and it will be good showing for the young Lords to have a proper butler.” Gregor looks to Tilly with a nod, “I believe this task more important than my frivolities.” Allione, “Very well I will add Tilly to the request.” Giving Gregor a nod Allione turned to the young wood elf. “Good sir I believe I must edit the contract with which holds your employ here as an investigator, if you are to accept you will be equally compensated to the task. I would like to send you to Kartha with the help of these others, to investigate the magisterium and see if this spying was a breach by the Empire and gods forbid another act of war.” Gregor speaks up once more, “This is all hypothetical of course, until you receive the Kings orders and of course your cooperation Blaze and Varnis.” His hands folded in prayer towards the two.

Chaperone nodded, "Of course I can offer protection and collect Mickaelis, sir." He extended an arm which opened revealing a small cloth. Taking the cloth with his free hand, he began to polish his outfit, it would not do to be dirty if he was to be meeting foreign royalty. He turned to Blaze, "I might be able to include some of your designs into my integrated disguise kit. You never know when an extra piece of silk or some make up might come in handy." He replaced the cloth in its compartment and straightened his doublet again.

Tilly looked to Gregor in surprise for a moment as he suggested that he leave before nodding. "Of course, sir. It would be my honor to accompany the young lords, and keep them out of trouble." He straightened his bow tie and mentally added to his master. "And would these talents be including my more... discrete abilities, sir? It may complicate things in the capital if my natural talents came to light... I doubt that people would be so keen to overlook a fly on the wall when discussing their illicit activities."

Varnis nodded in agreement “anything to help the queen, this is beyond a simple job and simple payment now” he chuckled to himself with the situation’s aubsurdity “This morning when I woke up I never intened to travel to another country to seek the kings brother but look at me now. If the king allows it, I shall go”

Glinn stood there with a stern face as the councilmen finished presenting the plan. He was filled with excitement and joy to be able to leave the castle and prove himself on a mission. "I'd be more than happy to escort the princess here. If that's what the high council agrees as the best course of action." The elf bows and stands back waiting for a dissmissal, projecting into Tily's mind. "I guess you won't be getting rid of me soon. You heard the man, we're gonna need a proper butler."

Rabert gulped. He was in way above his head. Although the idea of escorting a princess did appeal to him.

"Of course I would love to be of any help I can, I can't help feel there must be more qualified people for this job than I?" He hastily added "Not that I'm unwilling I assure you." Straightening up he calmed himself and set his jaw. "Count me in"

Allion nodded to all their responses, “You are good men, let us hope the Queen’s diagnosis is not as dire as it seems.” Returning to his desk she settles into his seat looking a little older. “Enjoy the revelry if you can, prepare yourselves to be summoned come morning.” He begins to write again on a new piece of parchment his hand practiced neat and official. “Pod!” He calls to the young Page who had fetched Rabert. As the boy entered he bowed then moved to the desk “Yes Chamberlain?” His voice wavering ending in a screech. Allione looks up from his paperwork. “Summon the High Council in one hour, be discreet. I will go to the King myself.” Pod bows as Allione waves him off and the boy disappears once more.

The Chamberlain then looks to all within the chamber. “You will not speak of this to anyone, your absences will be noticed, but we will take care of that. Are there any questions before you are dismissed?”

Gregor moves to Tilly giving him a knowing nod, “After the council meeting is over we will speak more of this, for now sustenance.” The man older man seemed to set back into his normal ways and move for the door just as one of the cleric’s knocked upon the door.

“Enter,” Allione called the cleric looking around at all those in the room and stood silently before the chamberlain. “Speak up man, we were all witness.

The young cleric clears his throat, “Queen Hadrianna is resting, the head Cleric did all he could to make her comfortable, but he seems to have been struck with a great exhaustion. He sleeps now in his chambers, but he had grown sallow before collapsing while treating the queen.” His voice lowers as he grows close. “Breaking a fever should not have cause such distress for him. We have resorted to the natural paths to help her until he awakens and can proceed.”

Tilly nodded in return to his master and watched him leave before turning to the rest of the assembled group. He gave Chap a smile, having grown familiar with the large, robotic man. Other than him and Glinn, he had glimpsed a few of the faces around the castle, but had never become formally acquainted. He coughed to get their attention before addressing them all. "Well, it sounds as if we are to become travelling companions for the foreseeable future. I am Tilly, butler to High Councilmen Gregor Abexian. We are all to be acting on orders from the highest authority in the kingdom, so I would ask that you all behave accordingly to the task. Thank you." He gave the group a bow.

Blaze's ears perked up at the request. He didn't like to brandish his reputation as a weapon, but this was the place he soon hoped to call home, and the victim was someone who he was able to call 'friend'.

"Anything for her," he bowed his head, a bit embarrassed, "I was hoping to become a citizen of Alvaria soon, so this land's interests are my own. I will do what you need."

The wood elf glanced at each of the other assembled faces, they all seemed deftness at the very least. “I am Varnis Gallanodel, I like to consider myself a problem solver and I hope I can do just that as we go along our way in these next few weeks”

Chaperone let out a small sigh, made all the more uncomfortable for the fact that he did not need to sigh at all. He then made a deep bow, sweeping his hand out to one side and holding his chest with the other. It seemed rather practiced and formal as he straightened back up. "I am Chaperone, bodyguard to the nobles. Mostly nobles who can afford me. In recent history, I've been working at the behest of Chamberlain and Member of the High Council Allion, who has done quite well to secure my services for many visiting foreign dignitaries as well as formal escort to many of the ladies of the Kingdom. Often, it is easier to simply address me as Chap."

The man of metal and wood turned to the Chamberlain, "Allion, I have no need to participate in the festivities. I had only intended to attend for the protection of the Queen by your request. I would rather accompany you to check on the Queen and gather the King, and on such short notice you would be hard pressed to find any of the other sentries who are approved to guard a High Council meeting. I doubt I need remind you that I've been sworn into secrecy for watching over Council Meetings in the past." The warforged methodically checked the harnesses of each of his weapons before straightening his buttons and doublet again.

Rabert looked around at his new companions.

"I am Rabert Crawphens from Hoggerts Keep. Third son of Lord Quillion Crawphens. But please don't hold that against me."

Trying to get a read on the people around him he said "Shall we head downstairs and try to enjoy what we can of this evening? I don't know about you, but I could do with a stiff drink"

Allione looked to the cleric, “Thank you, you are dismissed. Let me know when Griffin wakes.” Dismissing the young man Allion stands and turns to Chap as he is addressed.

“Of course, Chap, there is much to be done” Moving out from around the table and began to usher the others out seeing there were no questions for him. His hands wrapped around few rolled papers. “Have a good evening gentlemen, and prepare yourselves for travel.”

Following them all out Allione walks beside Chap speaking lowly as they movedfor the steps, “I am sending my son with you he knows the roads to Port Denarties well, our lands border the mountains there.” Straightening he looks to the rolled parchment. “So close to peace, and yet even after years some still wish to disrupt us. You may meet dangers upon the road many of our messengers, have gone missing relaying information between us and the Empire. Mikhaelis is there due to this disruption in communication. I’ll need you to keep sharp my good man and beware of broken mirrors.”

"I'll keep an eye out for broken mirrors. And keep an eye on your son." Chap nodded before addressing the bigger concern, "Both sides want peace, sir. It's in the empire's best interest to work with us in quelling this threat. Likely just a rogue faction of degenerates using magic beyond their understanding and paying high price for it. What concerns me is 'What could give them that kind of power in the first place?'" Chap went quiet as he opened the door to the Queen's quarters. His eyes immediately looked toward her vanity.

As soon as they've left the room, Glinn lets out a deep sigh. "Very well gentlemen, we shall see each other tomorrow morning." With a smile and a wave, he turns around and makes his way to the Great Hall and the ongoing celebration. He quickly spots his mother stuck in a conversation, "Great, at least I don't have to deal with that right now," and finds Jurren among the many guests at the crowded hall.

The elf picks up a glass of fine wine and meets the lord next to the banquet. "Eating, as per usual. I didn't know you enjoy coming to these kinds of events, although I'm grateful that you're here, friend. Anything interesting happened so far, or you were waiting for me to get this party started?" He smirks as he scans the room for an interesting source of entertainment, his eyes briefly flashing purple with excitement.

Tilly nodded to his companions as they left before addressing the remaining few. “I look forward to working with you all. A good evening to you, sirs.” He bowed and then turned away, walking of as he thought to himself of where his time might be best spent. I suppose there is no harm in arming myself with knowledge before our travels. The library it is then. Tilly began to walk off in the direction of the library, assuming his normal butler demeanor and smiling and nodding to the guests he passed.
