Fantasy A Gift Hidden By A Mask Main

Yum3ko

Queen
1 year, 4 months and 45 days

That's how long the sound of banging war drums have replayed their songs on repeat. The sound of war destroying homes, towns and ripping apart families, the two kingdoms; Hothus and Odra at each others throat, one fighting for power and control while the other to stop their challenger from killing and destroying anymore. But when the story of a single woman believed to be the Egyption snake goddess Wadjet had gotten out it had immediately caused attention of not only the towns people but also the rulers themselves and soon the rumours of more people like this, with the abilities of their gods and immortality like no other living among them was brought to the surface, each rumour spreading and the stories becoming larger. But soon the attention of such stories had given the kings thoughts, if such people existed, then perhaps having them join their sides would guarantee a success. And soon enough, that's what their mission was; to set out and find not only this woman who upholds the title of "Djet" but others like her in order to win this war with both kingdoms sending out armies and spies to find these people and bring them to their own side.

~~~~~
Moving through the large city, his mind set on a single target; to find this woman named "Djet" and get her help to find others like her. But of course it was not an easy mission, finding a single person in one of the largest cities is not an easy job, especially when one person most likely wants to be alone. He would probably that such a task would be impossible, even for him, a detective but if it wasn't for such rumours that such amount of flames had been spotted in one of the lower parts of the cities he would've admitted defeat and given up. Moving through the large crowds his mind had begun to shift, questioning as to what he was supposed to if he found the woman and what he was going to say, but from the story of her name he could only assume she was someone who'd save others from pain and agree to help put this on going war to am end for sure. But whatever she was truly like, he couldn't fail his king, for he too wanted to end this madness, he needed to convince this woman and find as many of these people like her as he could.
Even if his search for them were based from rumours and stories, there was no doubt that they had been extended and stretched like a game of Chinese Whispers, he ran a hand through his scruffy and unkempt black hair, whilst adjusting the large jacket that reached the floor he wore that seemed to hide the rest of his body. His eyes were a hazel colour while a scar was painted diagonally across the bridge of his nose, "now where are you Djet" He spoke in a low tone, his eyes scanning the different shops and buildings, all lined up across each other. Hope had been in his head, praying that the rumours of the different coloured flames being ignited in this area were true.
Sofia|Fire Mask|City Outskirts
Wake up, Sofia... WAKE UP!
A voice resonated in Sofia's head; it was her "mother," or what Sofia's mind had twisted into becoming her mother. The voice in her head had been with her for decades and she had rationalized it to be some sort of guardian, even though it was all in her mind. Sofia awoke abruptly, her eyes shot open and her body jerked forward, forcing her into a seated position. It had been a restless night as thoughts of the ongoing war played over and over in her head while she slept. Sofia hand instinctively shot toward her pillow, yanking it off the bed to reveal her mask resting gently on her bed. Her eyes burned red from the emotions she was feeling and the mask's own colors reflected her anger back at her. The great Djet had grown bored and tired of the city, with nothing of interest really happening, and it was killing her inside... she needed to get out and find something more. Fortunately for the sleeping tenants that slept below and above Sofia's room, the sight of her mask calmed her down and the glow in her eyes faded as the color on the mask's exotic patterns turned dull, and she felt herself relaxing.
Sofia softly put the pillow down next to her and took the mask in her hand, holding it the way a worried mother holds her child after a nightmare. She took a deep breath and stepped out of bed, allowing herself to stretch for a moment before going to find her clothes. Deciding she'd had enough of the city, Sofia thought it would be a good idea to wear her red dress to welcome a new adventure elsewhere. Grabbing her cloak and draping it over her dress with a large hood over her head, Sofia began deciding where she could go.
"Maybe I could find a warzone and wreak some havoc!" No... find another city and make it your home; you're bound to find something interesting without putting yourself in any danger. "That's true, but I am immortal so I don't think I'd be in any danger... though it would still hurt to get stabbed or shot..." Don't get involved, who cares about them? Wars come and go but you are eternal! "Hmm... I think I'll just walk around and see what I can find." Sofia spoke, seemingly to herself, as the voices in her head "counseled" her on what her next move should be, but she was interrupted when she turned to find her shoes, tattered and worn. "I'll stop by the shop first to get new shoes. Maybe I can find some cute ones!"
Sofia put on her shoes and collected her belongings, which consisted of her mask, her dress, her cloak, her shoes, and money and jewelry which she wore. She always left any outfits she wouldn't wear on her travels wherever she was since Sofia easily had more than enough money to buy however many more she wanted wherever her travels took her. Placing the mask in her cloak and raising the cloak's hood over her head, Sofia breathed deeply and walked out of her apartment, leaving some coins behind for the owner of the building. Sofia knew that people would recognize her, as she'd heard the name "Djet" spoken over and over again around her, but most people wouldn't actually approach her unless they needed help, which they rarely came to her for. Most of the time people came to her to help with fires or fend off thieves and bandits, but sometimes people of interest in the city sought her out to deal with more... delicate matters. These delicate "jobs" would often have Sofia ask for some sort of monetary reward, but for normal people, she never asked for anything, mainly because they had money of her own, but most people insisted on giving her something to "thank and appease a benevolent god" or something along those lines. Despite the help she provides, Sofia is by no means a hero, and only the mantle of Djet pushes her to do good, whereas Sofia herself, when not wearing her mask, does things that please her, even if some of these things tend to be questionable.
As Sofia stepped out into the bright day outside, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, allowing the heat to envelop her. She then opened her eyes, a bright smile on her face, and strolled through the crowds, humming a song to herself to add to the existing sounds of a bustling city that functioned around her. Her hood was on far enough to cover half of her face to most people unless they looked closely, and she allowed her wavy, brown hair to drape down onto her chest. Once she found the shop she was looking for, Sofia took a step inside and walked around, scanning the shelves until her eyes landed on a beautiful pair of boots which she immediately took off the shelves to try on. Deciding that she was happy with that pair of shoes, Sofia walked over to the vendor.
"I would like to buy these, please." She spoke softly and expectantly.
"That'll be five gold coins." The vendor spoke, clearly uninterested in talking to Sofia any longer than he had to.
"That's a little steep, but I'm in a good mood so I'll take them!" Sofia's voice was somewhat snappy, but she quickly shrugged it off and threw the coins onto the table, letting a couple fall to the floor. She turned and walked out, hearing the vendor curse behind her with a smile on her face. For a brief moment, the idea of giving him a good, fiery scare crossed her mind but she thought better of it. She simply leaned down, took her shoes off, and put her new boots on, giving herself a moment to "admire" her new boots. Before she could dwell on her new look for too long, Sofia heard people screaming in the distance and a cloud of smoke rose from a nearby structure. She sighed, realizing it would be wrong for her to walk away without doing something, and put her mask on before taking off. She ran about 300 yards until she reached the source of the smoke. Sofia saw a two-story home made of wood with the top floor engulfed in flames as people looked on. A family that was in front of the home turned to her and their eyes lit up with hope, which indicated to Sofia that they were probably the owners. She gave them a small grin and a nod before turning her attention to the home.
Sofia raised her left hand toward the house in a fist and pulled it back as if she were tugging on an imaginary rope. Suddenly, as the flames fell under her influence, the fire moved. It moved somewhat slowly at first but in a second all of the fire pulled away from the home and hovered in the air above the dumbfounded spectators and Sofia. Her grin curled into a more devilish smile as she looked up at the swirling inferno above them, the house now only blackened by the flames that had formerly attempted to consume it. Without warning, Sofia's hand shot upward as if she were pointing to the sky with outstretched fingers, and the swirling flames coalesced into a single stream of fire which shot toward the sky before dissipating in an instant. Everyone fell quiet, still processing the power that Sofia had shown to them. Sofia returned to her original position, her hand resting at her side once again, as her gaze fell onto the family. The entire family looked at her, confused and full of admiration, but the father quickly approached her. Without saying a word he pulled out a small medallion and offered it to her. Sofia smiled and gracefully took the medallion, placing it in her cloak before turning to walk away. It had been an eventful start to the day, and she hoped it would only get better.
-Guthrie—Air Mask—On the opposite side of town-
Years went by fast. The tragedy that occurred years ago, were passed him now—not to say he's completely gotten over it, because it's safe to say, he hasn't. What motivated him to move forward, was the urge to make someone he loved proud. Knowing that somewhere, they watched over him, knowing for sure this gift was left for him, a possession he treasured so dearly.
Besides the current situation with the war, everything seemed to be going well, at least here. The cool breeze that hit his skin as he walked, that he couldn't help but stand there and simply enjoy the weather. Ever since that tragedy, he'd found that a breeze came to be the most comforting feeling he could experience, one of reassurance and hope. He could even count it as an angel's blessing. Knowing that somewhere, in that small but refreshing gust of wind, they were there. It was a treasured feeling he couldn't fully describe when asked. Such as why he never shared it with anyone.
Once inside, he was greeted by a familiar voice—they were in a subway station, and while he was fine living alone, he needed to rely on others to get anywhere. Granted, he knew his way around this part of the city so well, transport seemed tedious. Unless it was much too far and he was unfamiliar with it—which happened to be the case. Returning the gesture with a wave, he'd remove a pair of sunglasses from his face, only to loosely place them in his bag—he felt the soft touch of a familiar feather brush against his knuckles, reminding him he still carried the mask on him. That was all he needed. For reasons he could not yet fathom, he worried about that mask more than anything else—constantly worrying that he'd lose it, or if he'd accidentally left it at home, he'd nearly begin panicking. He would put all else on hold just to find it. He figured it was only because it meant so much to him, that he couldn't stand the thought of anything happening to it. However, he was fully aware it was no average mask of any sort—that was clear from the moment he put it on. Which was why he kept that too, unspoken.
He had nothing to worry about now. While the trip across the city only took so long, it felt shorter than it was. He'd merely closed his eyes and took everything in.
"Guthrie?"
Guthrie tilted his head up and opened his eyes, aware again of the current situation.
"You've been awful quiet...-er than usual. Did you get enough sleep..?"
He understood the concern, and simply nodded his head, with an, "Mmhm.." For extra measure.
They were here. As he left, and stepped outside—he paused.
Something wasn't right.
In the distance.
The air smelled of burning.
Yvette Segal | Nature Mask | City Center
Sun beamed from the windows of an inn, lighting off white walls bleached and giving the quaint room a little life. Yvette awoke from a dreamless night and rolled over to place her fingers on the deer skull mask which she set on the night stand, something of a habit for her over the last 200 plus years after a single night of broken trust. She hasn’t left the thing alone since, though even being away from it’s contact made her feel weaker. Like she was worsening. The permanent ache in her limbs and exhaustion would deep in, bringing with it dread. The blonde girl pulled the deer mask closer to her chest subconsciously in that thought.
Collecting herself, Yvette stood and began sorting through her bag to make sure nothing was left behind in the room. With the war and it’s victims, she has had a lot more work. Having her power and knowledge of medicinal herbs, she’s been able to heal victims, criminals, and those with wounds or illnesses that they could not go to a doctor for almost instantly. She had the benefit of a steady flow of money that wasn’t dirty, did not have to pick a side, and only had to leave when people started talking about her. Though the constant moving around was straining on her body. Even if she couldn’t die, it was enough to consider dropping everything and becoming a florist.
After a run through of her supplies she decided to explore the city she stopped in. She was well aware it was one of the biggest, but she had not taken the time the previous night to even look around. If she found something interesting, maybe she would even stay another day. Yvette followed signs which led her to a public transit station and took a subway train to the outskirts of town. She smiled cheekily at strangers while staying attentive in crowded places, enough so to notice faces and distinctive people. A woman and child with matching red hair, a tall lean man with a distinguishing scar on his jawline, a blonde guy who looked around her own age and whose eyes didn’t seem to track or focus.
something feels off, and vaguely familiar. Keep an eye out.
A familiar voice in her head resonated, usually quiet and relaxed but this time a little on edge. Yvette nodded to herself and mumbled an acknowledgment under her breath as she stepped out of the train. It took a moment to figure out what it could be, but as the daylight came back into view, the smell of smoke filled the air. Yvette followed the trail, not considering why or how she knew. Arriving on the scene, she was just in time to watch a human girl, talk with dark skin and darker hair practically pull fire away from a burning building. The bright hot animal alive on her fingertips. The woman seemed to move on quickly, but Yvette stood, dumbfounded and unsure of whether to stay and look for burn victims or follow the potential pyromancer.
The sweet scent of the tea seemed to fill her lungs, steam flowing from the top as Ivy reached down, looping two finger around the handle and sipping it before placing it back down on the saucer with a clink. Her hand moved towards the leather book on the table beside her, opening the cover and flipping it to the back, however a frown moved over her face as there was a single page left before it was full. 'Looks i'll need to find another one soon...again' moving the tea cup up to her mouth yet again and drinking more of it she closed the book and placed it in the leather bag by her feet, the feeling of the black ribbon attached to her mask comforting her. Such feeling of comfort to have her mask with her was not new nor was it strange to her, instead a rather old feeling but felt new an exciting every time she placed it over her head, but of course she had hidden it away. After the rumours of the hero 'Djet' she felt cautious, not wanting to draw unwanted attention or even have the mask removed from her grasp again. The thought of such thing had caused her grip on her dress tightening till she immediately pulled it away and looked down at her hand, noticing four wounds on her hand from her nails but watched them soon close up.
She sighed to herself, finishing off the drink in front of her before standing up and looking around at the many different people around her, people of all ages, shapes and sizes going about their day. Turning back to look at the small cafe beside her, a smile brought itself onto her face as she reached in, placing 4 gold coins on the table beside the empty tea cup as she picked up her bag, walking away from the building. She had been glad to be able to have mornings like these for herself, where she could simply by herself and with her thoughts while enjoying some hot tea. However the smell of smoke caught her attention with the glowing lights of what she could only assume to be the flames, holding onto her leather back tighter and placing it over her shoulder she had started to make her way towards the building. Usually she couldn't care less if there had been a fire but this early in the morning and with nothing to do she had found herself intrigued and interested and sure enough, she had seen something quite interesting; it was as if the flames were being pulled away and controlled like a puppet by its puppet-master. But were soon gone in a flash, she had stood there almost frozen.
"Incredible" She whispered to herself as her eyes landed on a female dressed in a black cloak with her hood up, yet, what made this girl even more interesting had been the fact that she too, had been wearing a mask similar yet so different to her own. A strange feeling had begun to build up inside her stomach, her silver eyes had started to scan the area, the strange feeling growing larger. "Perhaps it was the tea..." no, that wasn't it, she had known the symptoms of drinking or eating something that ones stomach did not agree with and what she was feeling right now wasn't it, this was different. Moving her hand to her bag, making sure that her mask was still in her bag. She knew she wouldn't be able to go much further without having the mask over her face, she had already been fighting the urge to put it on right now but knew it wasn't the right choice. Her eyes watched as the masked woman began to walk away, so this was the famous Djet that saved a village from 200 soldiers, she sure had built up a reputation for herself, quite an interesting person but as a thought crossed her mind she had let out a shaky breath as an insane look appeared in her eyes.
'I wonder if her body works the same as mine? No, it wouldn't, she's controlling flames right, so she would have a greater resistance to heat? Oh all the possibilities seem endless! I have to know, I have to find out...I just have too! It's unknown knowledge!'
~~~~

The foul scent of burning wood and smoke seemed to catch his attention, his eyes widened as the sound of people yelling and others running towards the reason for the smells, his walking soon became a run, moving through and around the many people but froze instantly as the flames were drawn away from the burning house. He...he couldn't believe it, was all of this real or had his mind been playing tricks on him? But his had spotted a figure wearing a cloak and he had figured it out.

'This was the power of Djet'

It had taken a moment to realise what was going on, and finally moving he searched for this masked woman and finally he found her, walking off into the crowd. He shook his head before running after her, slowing down as he got closer, he cleared his throat while watching her closely. "You there, Djet" he called, hoping to gain her attention as he ran his hand through his hair yet again. "I was hoping I was able to find you, I have a proposition for you" he had begun to speak. His mind had tried to ignore the butterflies moving in his stomach but he knew that they wouldn't leave, he was in the presence of a woman who he knew could easily set him aflame right then and there so of course he couldn't help but open his mouth, "I mean you no harm" he blurted out, wanting to keep himself safe. He kept his distance behind her yet made sure to not loose sight of her, he needed to find her and convince her to join their side and find others just like her, that was his mission and that's what he was going to do.

Mira | Sea Mask | City Slums
It has been years, since Mira had to deal with the abuse and neglect of her family. But in the long run, it was worth it. Because she made their lives like a living hell and took their house as her own. Mira did fix the place up by herself, and even though it was long and painful. It was so satisfying to see what she did to the place. Mira made the place that used to be her parent's house into a work of art now. There were beautiful paintings on the wall, and some of them even have a mosaic on it. She even has a well-paying job as an artist and being an author of her books. Although, she doesn't use her real name when she signed the paintings or her books. As she didn't want people to know who she was, so Mira came up with the nickname Aqua, and put that name on her books and paintings.

Now Mira was writing her latest book when the whole Djet situation was going on outside. ‘Hm. Should I write a book about a girl who is dealing with a singing voice in her head? I want it to be very interesting for my readers.’ ♪’I say yes. It would be fun to talk about me.’♪ Mira was thinking about that when her subconscious said something, as that happens to her a lot. As she was thinking of what to write about for her book on a piece of paper, Mira was having some writer block from that. “Ugh. I can’t think of what else to write in my book, but maybe I will get some ideas if I go outside.” said Mira. Getting up from her desk, she went outside of her house in order to get some ideas by walking around the city.

Eyes everywhere. Sofia could feel as the gaze of every man, woman, and child around turned to fall solely onto her. Some were afraid, some were in awe, some were curious, and some were angry; Sofia didn't care. As she walked away from everyone around her, her mind already deciding where she should go and what she should do, she heard a voice. It was small and faint, yet determined and persistent. The voice called out her name, and it seemed like it wouldn't go away until she reacted to it in some way. A proposition? Maybe I should listen to- No! This man is a stranger and he wants something from you. Just keep walking and, if you must, set him alight where he stands! Don't listen to her! What if he wants to take you on an adventure? Hopefully, he doesn't want to make you fight a war or anything... Still, it might be your chance to do something fun! Even though Sofia didn't hear the voices right then, she imagined what they would say if they were present at that moment, trying to discern for herself how she should react to this man. It was clear that he really wanted to talk to her, but she also didn't want to bother herself with something boring. Finally, with a sigh, Sofia came to a decision on what she would do. "Fine, I guess I'll hear this man out..."

She abruptly stopped walking and closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath. Sofia pulled the hood off of her head revealing her mask in its entirety as well as allowing her head to now fall at her sides freely. She turned slowly to face the man who'd been calling to her, her eyes still glowing red and her mask's patterns mimicking them. Sofia couldn't know who the man was or why he was after her, but she could get some idea. She could gather that he obviously wanted something to do with her power since he wouldn't have sought "Djet" out if he didn't, and she could also assume that he probably worked for someone important. Once she was fully turned toward the man, Sofia looked at him for a moment, curiosity in her glowing eyes. A flicker appeared in her hand which became a flame the size of her hand, which Sofia playfully twirled around her hand, moving it as if it were a coin rolling around a magician's hand. "Yes, what is it?" Sofia's voice was somewhat cheerful but her words were a little odd considering the situation. She kept a stern look on her face, her glowing red eyes focusing on the man as the flame continued to dance around her hand.

Guthrie|Air Mask|City Outskirts

Witnessing this act of sorcery happened to be an entirely different experience—it was as if the world had stopped right before him. Worried voices and the burning had stopped, smoke seemed to clear away from the air, and all was quiet in mere awe of what this woman had done—until it wasn't. Guthrie was clever enough to come to the conclusion that someone had put out the fire, and not using any regular method, either.

With the flick of his hand, a gust of wind blew from behind him, one so strong, it seemed to cover the majority of the surrounding area—blowing away any light objects such as paper or empty bottles—whereas even he had to maintain his balance. This only lasted a few seconds, but while it had, it was feat of his own that he hadn't expected—at least, not to this extent. His head tilted up in genuine amazement of what he'd done, unable to fathom the possibility before. Throwing both his hands down, the last of the untamed wind had subsided in an instant, and what remained was a sudden drop in temperature, as if time itself had paused at that moment. He exhaled after a breath he didn't know he held in anticipation, and his breath proved visible, then faded again into the air.

All the papers and whatnot that were light enough to catch the wind to a high altitude seemed to flutter down gracefully, dancing while slowly, they rested on the ground in various locations, spread throughout the scene. Yet no one, not one person had found the source of this strange wind—at least he thought. This was a fact he couldn't prove, yet the overconfidence this had given him had made him very sure of it. He'd gained a surge euphoria of which he'd never felt before, at least not for the longest time.

Yvette watched as the object of her curiosity gained a crowd. A man approached, propositioning the woman Djet. It seemed the white haired guy from the train followed as well. She trained her eyes on the darker hair girl and frowned with suspicion when she decided to give the other man who approached a chance. Not that this woman couldn’t handle herself. He just gave off bad vibes. He wouldn’t be so afraid if he had pure intent, right?
Yvette Settled to take a knee on the ground and placed her hand on the pavement, placing her mask on properly. Her green eyes could trace the lines from her tattooed arms through the ground, which would glow green brilliantly only in her vision. She found a root and forced it’s vine to break the surface in order to curl around the mans ankle and hold tight.

You don’t mean any harm to her?” Yvette spoke with a grin. “Why’d you look so freaked out then?

As she antagonized the man, she noticed a breeze, which grew to a heavy gust and lifted all light debris into the air. This wasn’t usually for the weather or regardless. She glanced back at the white haired boy from the subway and realized what happened, quickly. Over two hundred years and this was the first time she’s seen this. It didn’t make sense to her, though still made more sense then her being the only one like this.

It’s you from the subway!”

She called out, seeing if she could catch the guys attention. The roots that she exposed grew rapidly through the ground, exposing leaves and buds, but Yvette held some restraint to only hold the stranger by the leg if she could. Hold still, don’t kill, could be a weird motto for when the power wanted to do its own thing through her. Healing was less effort but also less exciting. She put her concentration back into her powers, but kept chatting.

I thought I was alone here but there’s the guy from the subway, and sorry did they say your name was Djet?
She rambled a bit, breaking some of the tension from the scene, seemingly oblivious to it in general.

The mans stood still as he watched Djet stop and turn to him, he made his way closer towards her and opened his mouth to speak, "I was sent by the King of Hothus himself to fin not only you but others just like you for your help" his eyes looked around, hoping no one who shouldn't be listening was hearing. "I cannot explain more to you in such a public space but if we could speak in private I could explain more" he suggested. His eyes remained on her mask, it seemed to match her eyes in an intriguing way, were all people who wore the masks like this? Although his thoughts were removed by another voice behind him as another woman spoke to him, his eyes widened a little, another one?! Was this for real?

But upon hearing her question he had cleared his throat, about to speak but as he did so he felt the wind become stronger, it seemed unnatural and seeing the roots felt his eyes widen. Such an amazing talents, he had only heard about these people from the rumours and stories that spread across the land but seeing all, well, most of them here and now felt almost unreal to him. Watching her

"Well considering I just watched not only her pull flames from a burning house and can only assume you control the roots in the ground anyone normal would be, well, lets say cautious." He explained, moving his eyes as he scanned this newcomers mask, "i'm assuming you are another mask holder?"

~~~~
Letting out a deep breath her eyes moved to the kneeling girl close to her and found their eyes lock for a moment. There she had seen such an interesting mask, it was clear that it must've been the skull of a deer, her hand free of her bag closed into a fist as she let out another shaky breath.
'Two!? Two of them, this, this makes everything better! Oh just think of all the examining I could do!'
Although feeling such an unusual air pressure found her thoughts ending and her eyes following the roots of this masked woman towards a blonde haired male who seemed distracted and dazed. Her eyes moved towards this man who dared walk up to Djet and speak to her, listening into his words she found her curiosity rise and the temptation to ask him more had almost got the better of her yet she remained still and focused. She couldn't just suddenly ruin everything she worked for to hide the fact that she had a mask in her possession, the fear and horror she witnessed on peoples faces every time they found out she had a mask after challenging her always brought her great joy. She couldn't sacrifice that, it was too much, the fear seemed to be one of the only things that still interested her these days.
However she couldn't just stand here and watch this all unfold, her interest and curiosity was too high, she wanted to know more; more about these people, more about how their bodies worked and more about this plan of course. Turning her head as she found her eyes lock with this man who spoke to Djet and couldn't hold back an crazed smirk from forming on her face as she chuckled once more as he raised an eyebrow at her. But as his eyes moved to the bag over her arm her hand held a tighter grip over it, glaring at him in a possessive manner.
"Can I help you?" She spat, not removing her glare as he gave her a low chuckle, crossing his arms and shaking her head which she did not seem to find amusing at all. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Just interested in your eyes is all, no need to get so worked up ma'am " he replied in a simple manner, nodding his head to her, she simply rolled her eyes as he turned back to Djet and this new girl with a mask as if he was awaiting an answer from her.
Mira | Sea Mask | City Slums
While some of the mask people were dealing with the guy who was trying to recruit them for his damn king. Mira was walking around the slums to look for some inspiration for her book, because she was dealing with a writer block. She went to the junkyard to look for something there, but couldn't find anything of interests. ‘Seriously, how hard is it to find something interesting here? For I know that there is a lot of old stuff in the junkyard.’ thought Mira.
Mira was looking around the junkyard to find some weird stuff, as she thought that it might help her with coming up with an idea. However, it didn't help her at all.
Seeing that she wasn’t going to find the thing that she was looking for, Mira left the junkyard to go somewhere else.
As a result for doing that though, she ended up finding the other mask people and the random guy by accident. ♪’Let’s turn around, and pretend that we didn’t see this.’♪ Her subconscious was telling Mira to get out of there, but Mira herself had a different reaction to this. “Oh my gosh! Are you guys controlling the wind and the plants? That is awesome!” said Mira, who then realized what she just said. “I mean that is cool and all, but I should go now.” And just like how she suddenly appeared from out of nowhere, Mira just left them upon saying that. Because Mira didn’t want them to know about the mask in her bag. ‘That was way too close, and I should be careful about that in front of people like them.’ thought Mira.
She didn’t know that Djet was there, due to how fast she left. But if Mira sees her again, that would surprise her. As for the guy who the king had sent to go look for people like her, Mira isn’t interested in joining the war. The war is extremely pointless, and she can easily take the throne from the royal family by using force on them at any time. Although, the chances of her doing that are very low, since Mira is sick and tired of dealing with all of that drama.
Sofia listened to the man intently, finding his words somewhat troubling, yet intriguing. Before Sofia could properly listen to his words a powerful gust of wind blew through the area, causing Sofia to lose focus of her flame and letting it expire prematurely. She began scanning the area to find the source of this gust, her eyes instead landing on a girl who looked to be around Sofia's own age, and she was wearing a peculiar mask. Suddenly the girl did... something which caused vines to erupt from the ground like an arm of Gaia herself was reaching out to grasp the man's ankle. The stranger in the mask questioned the man, causing Sofia to get even more confused as to what exactly was going on. Sofia had never believed herself to be the only person with powers like the ones she had, and this stranger's presence only served to confirm her existing suspicions. Still, this was all happening so fast and Sofia felt like she couldn't get a chance to speak or properly think about what she should do. As Sofia tried to process everything, the masked stranger and the man "sent by the King of Hothus" seemed to be having a short exchange of words.
The strange girl then spoke to Sofia directly, which she barely heard but could make out the word "Djet" in her question. Before Sofia could say something, yet another stranger entered the scene, staring at the man and grabbing his attention. All of this was too much for Sofia to handle. The eyes were manageable, but such an overwhelming amount of direct interaction with other people, particularly people so strange as this bunch, was a little much for her. She slowly felt herself getting more and more annoyed as her annoyance turned to anger. Sofia's eyes glowed red hot for a few more moments before a flash of light came from them, turning them a bright, glowing, royal blue. Her mask's patterns followed suit, the new blue color bleeding over the previous red before it completely engulfed it. Without warning, Sofia shouted, her head shooting backward and her face now looking directly toward the sky. "Stop!" Her voice came with a roar, as blue flames shot out of her mouth toward the sky. Once Sofia felt like it was enough fire to grab everyone's attention, she closed her mouth and her head fell forward, her gaze now aimed directly at the man.
She quickly raised a hand, stopping the blue flames in the air, and began pulling it down slowly until she eventually stopped. A swirling mass of blue fire hovered over Sofia and the people around her, roughly 15 feet above the ground. Even from that distance, the sheer heat of this fire could be felt to the point of discomfort, as if everyone beneath the flames had suddenly been moved from the city they were in to a hot, dry desert. Her eyes, glowing an angry blue, focused on the man who was still entangled by the vines. "What help, exactly do you want? We can get away if it's really that important to keep the secret, but if you give me any reason not to trust you I'll bring all of this down onto you." Sofia's lightly nodded toward the fire which swirled overhead. Her voice was angry, but her anger wasn't directed at anyone in particular; she was just overwhelmed by everything and everyone that had suddenly stepped into her life. She ignored the words of the other two, deciding that focusing on a single person would better allow her to regain her composure and stay calm.
Guthrie|Air Mask|City Slums
He'd been called out. Generally, he had no idea what he was doing or even how to properly use these newfound abilities. Not to mention he wasn't aware of the extent of these abilities and how he could use them. It was all a secret and personal discovery—that is, until it wasn't. That was a poor choice, he realized, and now he was going to pay for it. No one could know that mask was in his hands, not until he figured out its purpose on his own. He wouldn't deny help in any regular circumstance, but he wasn't entirely sure what the risks were. He didn't even think such things existed before finding the mask. It didn't help that he now knew this subway girl had been watching him the whole time.
With this, he intended to flee, to leave without notice, but in attempt to move his leg—he quickly found he was bound. By vines, no less. He was baffled at the talk of masks and such, for the longest time he thought there were no others—this, he was proven very wrong. He would eventually come to the conclusion that it would be better to stay with these individuals who also seemed to possess abilities similar to his own—but right now, he was too caught up in a silent panic, that happened to express itself through his worried expression.
Struggling came of no use, and very quickly he'd given himself up to these vines, and whoever was responsible for them. Whatever they had to say, he'd listen. He didn't think their intentions were bad—though, at the same time, their actions were suspicious. Such as, keeping a man captive with their vines.
The sudden roar of flames caught his attention immediately, and as one could imagine, didn't help his panicked state. In fact, it gave him more of a reason to panic, as silently as he did. With the yelling and the flames came great warmth, and not one that was comforting, but instead, nearly scorching heat he'd felt on his face, that he'd bowed his head in attempts to avoid it. However, within a minute he'd shivered, strangely enough, and only his breath were visible when he exhaled, as if the temperature was instead freezing, but this proved false. Instead, chilly air surrounded only him, as to counter this uncomfortable heat—and he hadn't even known he'd done it.
From then on, he would listen to what the others had to say, in mere curiosity. And that he had no choice. He couldn't exactly leave.
Yvette | Nature Mask | City Slums
Yvette remained bent down in defense position. The sheer amount of chaos that went on around her was enough to keep her on guard. Another couple people arrived on scene, a girl with black hair and ghostly eyes, and a girl with blue hair who left almost as quickly as she arrived. The mask, who was usually quite nonvocal had sent her enough signals to make the hairs on her neck and arms stand up. Something about this group arriving at this place at one time felt like much more than a coincidence, and there was something significant about who and why that Yvette couldn’t quite figure out.
Her power surged for a moment, in defense of a massive amount of fire in the air. Controlling something that’s alive meant sometimes it’s own will had some say, and right now her flora was trying to retaliate. In calming it down to prevent an overgrowth, the noticed that not only had she ensnared the strange man propositioning Djet, but also the poor white haired guy who she had been suspicious it but now looked confused and afraid. Whoops. Even the concrete under herself had cracked to reveal buds. She forced the vines to release the white haired captive who seemed to be able to control the wind.
Shoot sorry sorry!! But I think we could all just calm down and talk.” Yvette reasoned, trying to retract some of the damage she dealt, herself. Then she gestured at the recruiter. “Except that guy. I think he’s about done talking,” she continued with equal parts humor and distrust. She stood, releasing her hands from the ground but no her hold on her powers, and approached the wind user.
Sorry, did I hurt you?” She asked, a little more gently, preparing to heal if any damage was done. He looked freaked out and the air around him was chilly, despite the ball of fire Djet was threatening a guy with.
His eyes widened upon seeing the massive amounts of flames, yet a stern expression reappeared upon his face, he needed to stay strict and professional like if he were to convince Djet and her fellow mask barer. He listened to her words and nodded, 'sounds far enough.' He took a step forward, looking around, noticing most of the crowed had disappeared by now, so clearing his throat he turned back to the woman controlling these vines and back to Djet.
"As you may already know but this war has been going on for too long, the kingdom of Odra are getting stronger and killing too many innocent people, the ruler of this kingdom had heard of your stories as well as others with powers similar to yours" the serious look in his eyes only seemed to deepen, "so he has sent me out to find those with great powers and convince them to join our side and help fight to end this war for good."
He felt her eyes stare into his, he already knew that intimidating someone such as herself was not going to work, "I can already tell that my words are not as reliable as i'd like them to be but I can assure you that no one would be as stupid enough to hurt either you, or others like you." He turned his head back to Yvette, "I am not going to harm you, but if you have no intentions in joining then I must ask for you to at least help me find others with great powers as the only way I have to find them is with stories and rumours and they've spread very far across both countries" He requested, he wasn't going to force them to join, knowing that it would end badly and not go so well but hearing one of the rumours about them being able to sense each other was mentioned in one of the rumours.
~~~~
Ivy had taken a step back as the flames erupted and the woman yelled in anger, she wouldn't blame her really, there was a lot going on around her. But what seemed to intrigue her was the words this man had spoken about the ruler of Hothus wanting to recruit people with such power to end the war and she couldn't help but feel, well, interested and curious. But as she let out a sigh she turned on her heel, she didn't want to get caught up in that mess, that it would've brought to her, she liked her peaceful life right now. The sound of her heels clicking against the concrete became quieter as she walked further away, off into the crowed.

Fight along side the ruler of this country huh? Sounds rather interesting.
Her hand moved to her back as she reached inside, the feeling of her mask bringing her a sense of relief before looking around, surely she was going to be late for work, but of course she could just say she was helping the family who were injured during the fire and testing to see if they were okay. Moving her way further down the street the building that was once aflame grew further away till she was no where insight. However the thought of the woman controlling the flames, the words this strange man spoke and the weird feeling in her stomach remained in her head.

Mira | Sea Mask | City Slums

Despite Mira leaving the group a few minutes ago, she wasn't that far away from them. So when Sofia ended up doing the swirly floating blue fire of death, Mira was pretty much stuck with them. This has caused Mira to become frustrated. Because all she wanted to do is to say a few nice things about the people who can controlled the wind and the plants, and then leave to go home or to do something else. She ended up sighing from this and thought about what she should do to get out of here. ‘Ok. I am trapped here, thanks to some random pyromancer in that group. However, I can’t use my mask around this area, since they might end up seeing it. I will not let them take my mask away from me, for they are nothing but awful demons.’ thought Mira.
In the hopes of them not seeing the mask, Mira was determined to not wear it for as long as possible. Although, there was another problem for her. Because she was starting to see them as demons who wanted to destroy the mask in her bag. Mira tried to get away from them with the limited free space that she was given and looked around nervously like a little rabbit. 'Must protect the mask from the demons. They can't be trusted, so I need to get rid of them if they even dare to look at my bag.' thought Mira, who was slowly starting to feel the negative effects of her mask.
She was being overprotective of her mask, and anyone who saw her right now can see that there was something wrong with her. Mira was crying uncontrollably due to her insanity, and she didn't want the other mask users or that random guy to see her losing control like this. As she was being stubborn for not wanting to wear the mask as a way to escape.

LUDIUS
MASK // DESTRUCTION | LOCATION // CITY INN >> SLUMS

Despite being made by the finest wool, the cloak which had accompanied him throughout the past decade had lost its original durability. Its original dark black color had become faded and its hem was frayed due to constant wear. With the tattered hood on he looked shabby sitting on the outside patio of the inn while reading the daily newspaper. If it had been before he would have already thrown the cloak away, however...under the hood his eyes glowered down at one of the columns.

WANTED
ARISTOTLE LUDIGER
ALIVE ONLY / 10000 GOLD

It had been years since his bounty had been taken out of the newspaper. With the death of the king, the search for him was halted with news more focused on the issue of inheritance between the princes. Gradually his face had disappeared within the papers as the efforts and the reward for his head had dwindled, after all, it had been decades since the bounty was put. Most would assume he would already be dead. To make matters worse the picture they had used had been taken days before the incident. The last time he had seen his bounty they had used a drawn image of what he would've looked like in his middle ages.

They know. The thought had made him break into a cold sweat. He thought he could finally be able to walk around freely. If he wasn't in public he would've taken the chance to laugh at himself. Under his cloak, he brushed his hand over the left side of his chest. Feeling the firm outline of the mask his nervousness eased and his mind had returned to a state of peace. He stayed in the inn for awhile casually listening in on other conversations to see if there was any useful information. Hearing about the commotion about a girl with the power to control fire he had made his decision. I have to hurry and get out of here as soon as possible.

Making his way through the city he opted to go through the slums with the idea of being discreet.

Sofia was practically moments away from just dropping the fire onto the man, confusion, and emotion getting the best of her. That was until she heard a girl practically lose her mind nearby. She turned her head, confused as to what exactly was going on, and didn't see the girl but she could pinpoint the direction that the crying came from. Deciding it would be best to focus on the situation at hand, Sofia sighed and turned to face the man who seemed more eager to start talking now that the people had scattered. His words caught her off guard. He wants me to fight a war? "Others like me," what is that supposed to mean? Sofia's thoughts swirled around in her head much like the blue flames hovering above everyone's heads. She'd known that there were people with similar "gifts" to hers, but she was surprised that word had gotten out to such a degree. I guess this might be on me, acting like some sort of "vigilante" might not be the best way to keep things a secret... not that anyone ever told me this needed to be a secret... Her eyes shifted downward as she thought about what he'd said, the implications of potentially joining a war weighing on her.

Come on, it could be fun! Tag along with him but don't actually fight; that's dangerous! No! You don't need to help anyone! Her mind was now trying to pull her in opposite directions, shouting at her to follow different commands. Sofia was having none of it, she knew that this could be an opportunity for her to do something entertaining. The whole "fighting in a war" thing didn't excite her too much, but Sofia thought she might as well tag along and not let him know that. Besides, he clearly seemed to pose no threat to her or others like her, particularly when she could burn him to a crisp on a whim. "Alright, I will come along on your mission. Just know that I did not choose this because you told me to, no one can make me do anything." As she spoke her expression softened a little and her hand waved from left to right, her fist closing in the process. As Sofia did this, the blue flames dimmed for a second and, in an instant, completely vanished as quickly as she'd produced them earlier. "So far I think you have a few 'like me' right there..." Sofia pointed toward the girl who'd controlled the vines as she tilted her head a little, still trying to wrap her head around how she got in this situation.

Guthrie|Air Mask|City Slums

As he was released, he suddenly collapsed onto the ground—taking a deep breath or two before standing. Struggling to keep his balance as he stood, he hesitated before answering the supposedly plant-user's question. Which he did with a silent shake of the head, before he turned, bumping into her, or someone near her, in the process of trying to leave.
He knew of the war, but certainly the past thing he wanted was to participate in it. He doubted he would be of much use, anyway. A man capable of controlling the air could only do so much, at least he thought.
So much seemed to be going on at this time, that perhaps, the majority of them wouldn't see him trying to leave, nor care.

Raoul|Animal Mask|City Outskirts
As he'd felt the sensation of small padded feet slapping him awake, Raoul awoke, raising his hands to block the freshly risen sun's glare, the air burning his lungs until he was fully awake. He had fallen asleep just a few yards from the cities boundaries, wandering through the night until he’d found a place providing a cool breeze and short grass that wouldn’t cling to his clothing. His mask dangled from his side, washing its oh-so-familiar calming aura over Raoul. As he made his way towards the city allowing his hand to brush against the mask on the way, a familiar voice of reason, spoke up, it's gravelly tone giving a pointless warning, Careful.

Upon approaching the city, the only familiar smell was a faint smoke, masked by the overwhelming scent of perfumes and colognes, Raoul made his way, blending in with a crowd gathering around a building consumed by flames. Being one of many who had been trying to peer into the building for anyone stuck inside, his gaze was drawn to a figure with a mask attached to her face, covering all but dark brown hair flowing past her shoulders, he clenched his palms shut as he witnessed the flames lead into the air, before shooting up and disappearing. Raoul grasped his own mask in his hand, and worked his way through the crowd, both coming closer to the woman, and nestling against the house, further back in his mind, the voice once again barked, Obser- interrupted by a pair of voices, one who called out with words built of mistrust, followed by a pale blonde haired woman, whose frantic words quickly faded to the background as two vines cracked through the ground, acting in response to a strong gust.

Around him were dozens of captivated civilians, albeit their perspectives tainted with fear, even admitted by the one who had started the confrontation, a few had jumped back from the vines, kicking up the papers that had previously been scattered by the mysterious breeze. Although the demonstration had created a stir, and an exciting one at that, Raoul looked around at the worried faces and reasoned against adding to the chaos, opening his hand and releasing his grip on the mask. Most notably out of the group was a blue-haired girl who had suddenly spoken up suddenly to address the two who had put their powers on display before jolting off. His own concerns quickly became invalid as a wave of fire erupted into the air, and with no need to question the event, Raoul turned towards the woman, still engaging in conversation with the mask seeker, seeming to only have boosted his morale. The man continued, requesting for the aid in his battle until he was finally accepted, Raoul simply wished to continue watching, as his focus shifted towards the woman adorning the deer skull.

Swallowing the lump in his throat he nodded towards her before turning towards the woman who already seemed to be a rather strange woman. His head turned towards Djet, "well if it's alright with you i'd much prefer it if we spoke somewhere a bit more private, away from the crowd" his head turned towards the crowed who was now starting to break up, some leave and some stay. He questioned whether he had done this right but he couldn't back out now. Not when he had already found two of the people in a smaller amount of time that he thought he would accomplish. His eyes searched the area, thinking of a quieter place to go and discuss details of where to go next and who to search for.

"I have a place in mind for a more secure location to discuss further" his head turned towards the woman controlling the vines, "I would feel a lot more comfortable sharing private information in larger crowds and as I've stated before I do not pose a threat, it wouldn't be a smart decision to even atempt to take both of you down" he stated, turning back to Djet and nodding, "I understand the fact that you do not want to be controlled, therefore I am simply asking you." His face and expression seemed serious yet if you were to look further enough into his eyes you'd notice something that wasn't what he had been trying to portray; fear.

Jovan|Mask Seeker--Hothus|City Outskirts
Late to the party as always, Jovan had made his appearance in the city. His comrade had made it there ahead of him, so he'd planned to meet up with him to converse on whatever he may have found. The soldier certainly hadn't expected him to find one of the mask wearers too quickly, so he figured whatever news there was to share would be bland and boring. With every step he took, he seemed to hop a bit. Much too jolly for someone that had seen horrors he had. But this mission seemed worthwhile for all of Hothus.

Before receiving this new job, he'd been doing what any other soldier had been. Fighting in the war. They said it was a great honor to fight for one's nation and all, but it was different against Odra. They were unbelievably ruthless and he'd witnessed it first hand. While he'd left behind some old comrades to take on this mission, he felt like he was doing the right thing. If they could find and hopefully recruit these masked wearers, the war could be over before any more damage was done. Or so Jovan hoped. There was no denying the fact that Odra was just as interested in them as Hothus was.

"Ah, I hope I'm not wondering too long," Jovan said to himself as he pushed a hand over the back of his neck. With his luck, he would be wondering about that long, but he'd heard of some interesting events that had happened toward the slums. Nobody had seemed to see who had caused the phenomenon, but there was the talk of blue light and a sudden warmth from somewhere within the slums. So he figured he would head in that direction first. Maybe he would meet someone special on his way as well.
