Tommy grinned when Aliana said she wouldn't do anything major and may just give the boss an earful. "Well, try not to kill James or anything. I kind of like him as a boss. Conor's a great guy but I suspect his jobs would involve all night drinking sessions and fist fights. My face isn't as good at taking the punches as his is," he joked. "Unless Lucy or Sinead would replace him. Not sure if Lucy would be scarier and I heard Sinead got tough lately. The little ones are the worst..." Really, Tommy was hoping to lighten the mood. He didn't want Aliana to keep feeling so down.

Tommy followed Aliana into her office and gratefully accepted the drink. "Thank you, ma'am," he said, taking a small sip. "Can I at least aim for seventy-percent? Is there someone who needs punching? I can go punch a guy for you," he remarked. It then dawned on him that he'd been invited to an event at James' casino. "I almost forgot... The Porters are all going to be at the casino on Monday evening. The Mayor is going to be present too. It's some sort of charity fundraiser. Do you want to come with me? You can ditch me once the evening gets started, but at least accompany inside so you can bring up my street cred? I won't even look forty-five percent cool if I walk in there alone," he half-joked. "Besides which, I'd really like to spend more time with you, if you're up for it too?"

Peter was relieved to be home, but the atmosphere seemed just as intense at home as it had been on the job. Staying silent through the small talk that was made on the porch, he nodded his head in greeting towards the others before making his way inside, following after Conor and Ryan. A wide smiled formed on his face as Sinead greeted him enthusiastically, as always. Opening his arms to her, she fell into his arms for a hug before kissing him gently. Not missing her literally sniffing around him, his cheeks turned a deep red with embarrassment as he let out a light laugh at her curiosity. "That will be a story for later my dear." He informed her after she'd asked what he'd been up to. He was relieved to see she was content with the answer and she moved onto a different top quickly.

Peter raised an eyebrow as Sinead pulled him to the side and explained that Elijah had killed Grant. Peter frowned at the news of it, knowing that James and his brother had been close in an odd sort of way. He was sure that's what was causing all the tension around the Porter house at the moment. "Everything went well dear, no injuries." He said, smiling reassuringly towards her. Peter pulled her in for a hug before chuckling at the part about getting him out of his clothes. "Once we are done here, I think I would love to take these clothes off babe." He leaned in slowly and gave her a soft kiss before continuing to hold her close. "Looks like you will have to take yours off too, now you are all smelly!"He teased. "So you and Alex talked hmmm? it went well?"

James Porter

James closed his eyes for a time as he focused on the feeling of Lucy holding him close and head resting on his shoulder. She was the only person he could show this side of himself to. Everyone else needed to see him standing tall whilst speaking with confidence and certainty. He knew showing these emotions wasn't a sign of weakness, but he wanted everyone to be reassured and not worried by the sight of their boss appearing vulnerable. He opened his eyes and gently kissed the top of her head as she continued to rest it against his shoulder.

"I know I tried to make him see sense. I know forcing him to step away from Ciara would have done no good and caused him to hate me. I guess I just wished I hadn't let him get hurt when we were kids. I should have been looking after my little brother when he had that accident..." Realising he was speaking of things he couldn't possibly change and that he'd been too young to prevent, he fell silent. Instead, he focused on her comment about him not being Batman. He looked into her eyes and then saw her slight smile. He couldn't find it in himself to to return one of his own. "I just owed it to Eli to save him," he persisted. He didn't want to bring Lucy down after she'd had a lovely evening with the girls. "Y'know, I guess I kind of do have a Batcave down in the basement. I wonder how Conor would take it if I banned him from my Batcave. He's been spending more time working out down there lately, after all," he remarked.

James looked over his shoulder to the house door. He could hear his family's voices inside. Sinead's voice always stood out, thought not in a bad way, it was simply of a somewhat higher frequency than most and especially when she was in an excitable mood. She was sweet, as was the rest of the family, but James was too mentally fatigued to socialise right now. "I'm going to head straight upstairs to our room. I don't want to discuss anything with everyone until I've had chance to think about it all." He broke away from Lucy's hug but took hold of her hand to gently squeeze it. "I'm not against you joining me, though. I could never tire of being with you," he told her, adding a wink.

Chapter 7: The Luck of the Irish
Chapter 7: The Luck of the Irish
Monday 9th November 1959
Evening - Cold, Dry
********************************
...Two days later...
********************************

The Clover Casino
James Porter

1526764457109.pngSince Ciara's arrest, things had been quiet as far as the IWU was concerned. Although Ciara was locked up on an attempted murder charge, James knew better than to assume his troubles with the IWU were over. With the help of Kieran's intelligence on the organisation's structure, James was aware the group was know being led by Jared Armstrong. The two men had interacted with each other on occasions and though they had been civil, James recognised in him a man who could potentially be dangerous with enough support. For now, James had made a mental note to become more acquainted with Jared and see if the mess Ciara had created could be repaired, being that he had assisted the IWU in the past.

This evening, there was a charity event being held at the Porters' casino, with the profits going towards charities for the local orphanages. The Mayor would be attending the event, which was why James and Lucy had made a point of arriving early, to ensure the casino was secure and they were both present to welcome the man. James was on good terms with the Mayor, seeing a man who cared about Dublin and also understood the work the Porters were doing to control the more dangerous groups in the area.

Once everything was checked over, James linked his arm with Lucy's and led her to one of the booths in the area he'd reserved for his family and the Mayor. One of the waiters rushed over to pour them some drinks, before returning to his post at the bar. James glanced to his watch and realised they had a little time before they needed to greet the Mayor. "You look stunning, Luce," he complimented her, even though he'd told her pretty much the same earlier. He couldn't help but smile as he looked to her. She'd been his rock the last couple of days when much of his focus had been on making arrangements for Elijah and ensuring his brother would be looked after. "After tonight, I think we need more nights out, but just the two of us," he suggested. He knew not to expect everything was now peaceful with Ciara's absence, but he wanted to make the most of whatever kind of reprieve this was, while ever it lasted. James was fully aware there had been no reaction nor acknowledgement for the IWU's weapons that he'd had destroyed.

1526763817210.pngThe original plan had been for Ryan and Rudolph to go to the casino with Conor and Alex, but then Peter had been reminded of how that would be a bad idea considering Ryan's feelings where Alex was concerned. Instead, the two guys were going to share the car with the Callahans. Sinead let Rudolph sit in the front whilst Peter drove, figuring the two men were by now friends with the amount of jobs they did together. Besides, she'd barely had chance to speak to Ryan since he'd arrived. He'd spent much of his time being driven around Dublin with James, who had been pointing out the important locations and businesses, as well as things around the city to avoid.

Sinead sat in the back with Ryan, her infectious smile present on her face. "So, what have you been up to since we last saw each other? It was soooo long ago," she curiously asked him. She had been innocent as far as the Sullivan business was concerned, but she'd still known Ryan a little, even roping him into driving her into town on a couple of occasions. Though she was now older and had children of her own, she still had her young and free spirit about her which would likely resonate familiar to the man. "I hope James hasn't been working you too hard yet, considering you probably had a long and rough journey. My brother-in-law is a slave-driver!" she playfully exaggerated. She then glanced to the two men in the front. "Just asked Petey and Rudy. They're always out working these days!"

Conor Sullivan and Thomas Dempsey

1526764631411.pngTommy had first been to pick Aliana up before swinging by the Porter house to take a couple more of the family members to the casino. "Are you ready for an evening of gambling?" he happily asked her. "I'm not blowing my own trumpet or anything, but I've got a lucky streak when it comes to gambling. How about you? Maybe you're going to be an extra good luck charm for me," he suggested.

They soon reached the Porters' house and Tommy pulled up to wait for a couple of the others to get into the car. As it happened, Rudy and Ryan had already left with the Callahans, so Conor and Alex were still in need of a driver.

Conor led Alex out of the house as he saw Tommy's car pulling up. "You look hot, love," he told her. "I'm not even bothered about putting on any bets. I just want to get pissed out of my head tonight. How about you?" he asked her. "It won't be a good night out if at least one of the family isn't pissed up and sprawled out on the floor. The only bet I'll make is that it'll be Jackson... No, wait. He's probably focused on trying to get into Blake's bed. Let's go with Pete. Tinkerbell's been wrecked a few times lately, so I say Pete's overdue a hangover." Things at the house had been so hectic, he hadn't even heard if Finn and Eleanor were planning to make it across to the event. Finn would easily be the drunkest then.

1526764719703.pngTommy was fairly oblivious to any reason why this could be awkward, so he happily invited the remaining couple to hop into the back of the car. However, Conor was aware this may be uncomfortable, given his history with Aliana and the fact he was now effectively being driven out on a date with Alex, whilst Aliana was present in the front passenger seat. "Are you two alright?" Tommy asked the couple in the back, glancing into his rearview mirror as he drove to the casino.

"I'm spot on, mate. How about you?" Conor replied to Tommy, who was sat directly in front of him. He then looked to Aliana and faintly smiled. "How about you, Ali. Are you good? I hope Tommy here hasn't been boring you with how great he is at poker. He's won way too much money from me in the past, so I'm not getting involved in that tonight!"

The Armstrong House

Jared Armstrong

1526765355881.pngThe Armstrong home was a large, five-bedroomed house with a relatively large garden, but modest when compared to the Porters' residence. There was an adjoining garage to house their two cars, but nothing that would draw too much attention to the family. Jared knew he could afford much more, but he chose not to draw attention to himself and felt his family was more than provided for. Most things the man did were calculated and with long-term plans in mind. Right now, his home was perfect for all concerned.

In his study, Jared sat back as he ended his call with Carter and placed the receiver down. He remained in his seat for a short time as he finished off some paperwork he'd brought home with him. Mostly, his thoughts were cast towards the Porters and the fact they'd destroyed weapons which belonged to him. He didn't care for the explosives, as he hadn't been approving of Ciara's desire to have them. But the firearms were expensive and they belonged to the IWU, so he took their destruction as an act of provocation. Jared had been willing to push aside the petty war Ciara had started with the Porters, but now he was aware they were more than likely to continue to get in his way. He would have to knock them off of their top spot soon.

By the time he left his study, Jared displayed only a relaxed state and one which gave off a sense of friendliness. As far as anyone was or needed to be concerned, he was the picture of a perfect family man. It was partly why he'd gifted Faye with a puppy very recently - another addition to be seen out walking with the family. That, and because he simply loved to treat Faye. It was the same puppy that he was very nearly about to trip over but he stopped himself just in time. He crouched down and lifted the small dog in his arms, playfully rubbing behind its ears. "Did Faye give you a name yet, boy?" he mumbled to the animal.

Jared entered the lounge in time to find Faye present. Suddenly, the dog took a back seat as far as the man's interest was concerned, so he carefully placed the pet down on the floor. "Well, good evening, beautiful," he greeted her. He approached her, placing a kiss on the back of her hand and then another on her lips. "My apologies for attending to work, but I'm all yours now," he assured her. Soon the family would be going out to dinner. Somewhere public, where people could see the perfect family out and about. Where the Armstrongs could maintain their public persona in time for when it would matter the most. "Are the kids nearly ready too?" he asked his wife.

Lucy had been quite content with the way the evening was going so far. She stayed to the side and silent as James checked everything over for this evenings charity event, which Lucy was truly pleased they were holding in the casino. When it was time to head to the table, Lucy linked arms with James as he led her there. Sliding into the booth carefully, she straightened out her dress as James looked at his watch before complimenting her again. She smiled widely as her cheeks warmed, "Thank you love." She said once again to him, he had already complimented her appearance several times this evening. She didn't mind at all though, only confirmed that what she was wearing was more than satisfactory. "I feel like we haven't had time to ourselves since we were kids." She chuckled lightly, even 10 years ago, they technically didn't qualify as kids. But it felt like it. Her mind briefly remembered all the dates they use to go on, and the majority of them getting ruined by Angel. It occurred to her that she didn't have very many good memories from the dates they went on. If they were getting a second change at marriage, and having a baby, maybe they should give a few dates a try.

"Like when we use to go to the pier, or to the cliff that looked over Lake Michigan." She murmured to him before reaching out and taking his hand. "Though if I recall there was a few times where the ends of those dates were less than desirable. I would really like to have time to ourselves, just you and me again." She reassured him now before lifting his hand and giving it a soft kiss. Lucy scooted closer to her husband and smiled cheekily at him. "So after you take care of all this business, you going to win big?" She asked, looking out to see people all around enjoying themselves at the charity. "I mean, it is for a good cause after all. And I know you are a fan of a good cause. Besides, if you don't win here, I'm sure you're bound to get lucky somewhere else." Her voiced teased him lowly before she brought her drink to her lips.

Blake Walsh

Blake had thought that after the kiss she had shared with Jackson, that things would be awkward between them. Surprisingly, this wasn't the case. Jackson hadn't made her feel uncomfortable the next day which gave her a sense of relief and more courage to hide the worried feelings that were threatening to bubble over. It was stupid of her to get involved with Jackson in such a way, especially when she was trying to destroy the Porters. No matter how much she told herself to stay away over the next few days, she found that it was nearly impossible. Blake stepped out of the car with the help of a valet driver and she thanked him sweetly before waiting for Jackson to take her arm. She smirked softly at him and turned to stop him just outside the casino. "Hold on." She murmured to him before stepping in front of him and gently adjusting his tie, straightening it out and smoothing it. Once satisfied with her work, she linked arms with him once more before making a comment, "You would never look this good if it wasn't for me." in a teasing tone. "The women will swoon over you." She said to him, wondering if these bold choice of words would somehow throw him off from her.

In some sense, she hoped it would, and be encouraged to find a nice girl. But in another sense, she hoped he would question why he would want any other woman. Biting her lip lightly, they stepped inside the casino and Blake looked around with interest. She had never had the pleasure to step inside the Porter's casino before tonight, she wasn't much of a gambler. But it was nice to see that the charity event was in full swing and everyone was playing. Blake might play, or she might decide to get drunk until she could hardly stand. It was a decision she would have to make soon. "So what do you want to do? I could certainly use some new shoes you know!" She said teasingly, shoving him slightly. "That money ain't gonna win themselves!"

Peter was finding it hard to really concentrate on the road, his eyes looked between the road and the mirror as he saw his wife in the backseat conversing with Ryan. He had said it at the house but he was going to say it for the rest of the night that green was definitely her color. Something about it was just so perfect for her, Peter couldn't keep his eyes away. Thud thud thud thud thud" Peter swerved the well back quickly onto the road, having lost focus and started to slowly move off to the dirt part of it. Clearing his throat, he forced himself to be safe and keep his eyes on the road, wanting to be able to live long enough to see his wife in the dress he adored all night. He smiled slightly as Sinead told Ryan that James was use to overworking his employees. Peter shook his head and looked in the mirror at Ryan. "Eh he ain't too bad, one of the better bosses I've had." He said with a smile, his eyes dodging to look at Sinead briefly before looking back to the road.

Pulling up to the casino, he pulled into the valet zone and let the driver take the car. He rushed around to help Sinead out, "Mi'lady." He murmured to Sinead as he took her hand and gently helped her step up onto the curb. His eyes looked at her with childlike wonder, amazed at how she could be so beautiful. "Did you do something different? Make up, hair? You look amazing love." Peter confessed to Sinead again and moved to hold her close. Wrapping his arms around her for a moment, he pressed a kiss to the top of her head before releasing her and taking her hand. Looking to Rudy and Ryan. he gave a sheepish smile. "Sorry gents!" Peter really wasn't sorry for smooching on his wife, but being polite was the right thing to do. "We should head inside! Get a few drinks! This might be our only night off for a while." He said in a teasing tone before leading Sinead inside the casino.

"And where do you think you are going off to mister!?" Faye called to the pup that Jared had gifted her with. She watched as the young pup clumsily ran towards the hall, slipping and sliding on the hardwood as he went to explore the surroundings around him. Faye stayed where she was for a moment as she moved to fix her lipstick in the mirror in the family room. Smacking her lips together lightly, she gave a slight gasp in excitement as she heard Jared's voice greet her from behind. Turning around quickly, she smiled sweetly his way before practically skipping to him, meeting him in the middle as he too approached. He took her hand and kissed it, which caused Faye to giggle, then he kissed her lips and to her, it was like the first kiss all over again. Sighing happily, her eyes fluttered open as he revealed that he was done with work for the evening. "Well, I intend on keeping you all night my dear, so I hope you have no other arrangements." Her voice took on a teasing stern tone to it and she narrowed her eyes before giggling again.

When he asked if the kids were nearly ready for dinner, she nodded her head lightly. "They should be down any minute now. Its nice, going out to dinner like this. Its been a little while." Faye said with a slight pout, but it quickly turned into a smile as the puppy that had yet to be named was now sleepily stumbling about. "I haven't had this much trouble picking out a name since Alex." She said honesty to her husband before scrunching her nose in slight irritation at her indecisiveness. "I just don't think he deserved a dog name, if that makes sense, he seems far too brilliant to be named something like Fido. Maybe Harold, but then that makes me think of an old British man. Maybe Andy. Its playful." Faye hummed in satisfaction at the last name she spoke and nodded her head. "I like the name Andy...and thank you for him love. He's adorable."

Rudolph Meyers
Rudy Meyers.jpg"Oi, buddy, if you can't get your eyes off your wife and on the road I'm about to bail," said Rudy jokingly with a cigarette wedged in his teeth. He had actually been out of town for the past few days running business for the Porters beyond the Pale. He had only been back in town a few hours when he got roped into going to the casino, against his better judgement. He had his pockets filled with money, though. He was going to play the blackjack tables and maybe make a little cash, or get into debt and have to break the nose of some casino enforcer.

As they exited the car, Rudy through his arm jovially around Pete. "For my part, friend, I'm going to get roaring drunk. If you need me I'll be at the bar." He said as he walked off to join the casino crowd. It wasn't long before he was perched in front of the bar, knocking back gin.

Kieran Joyce
kieran alternate.jpg"Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned."

"What are your sins, my child?"

Kieran sighed heavily and leaned against the wooden lip of the confessional. "I have spent the last few weeks aiding an abetting a criminal organization in their violent suppression of another criminal organization."

There was a long silence. "Is that all?"

Kieran scrunched up his face. "Erm, yes, I think so."

"Say five Hail Maries, an Our Father, and a Glory Be. And, my son... Family is family." With that, the priest slid the confessional door closed and Kieran blinked at the rapidity. It was his quickest confession to date. He stood up and left the church, holding his rosary beads in his hand as he walked down the street back towards his hotel room. James had invited him to the casino to chum it up with some of his associates as long as it was low-key. He had yet to get very well acquainted with Jared's organization and he remained in a state of operational limbo. So he figured it was okay to stop in and get a few drinks. So it was no surprise when he accidentally ended up next to Rudy at the bar.

"Hey, old sport," he muttered to Rudy.

"Hey Kieran," Rudolph responded quietly. "Should you be here?"

"I'm here," the seminarian said, sipping his beer, "that is all."

They both turned to watch as James and Lucy, then Peter and Sinead, than Jackson and Blake appeared on the casino floor.

"Who's the blonde?" Kieran asked, noticing Jackson's new arm candy.

"Name's Blake," Rudy said, sucking down gin, "she's new around the joint. Not sure how I feel about it."

"She's a looker," commented Kieran.

Rudy shot him a look. "Aren't you going to be a priest, Kieran?"

He shrugged. "Just because I can't touch doesn't mean I won't look."

"Fair enough." Rudy said with a laugh.

Jackson McCarthy

rsz_1b4fadf2224bf798e86f07c3fbeca2b8d.jpgHe had been so struck by the kiss, that he found himself idling on the side of her stairs for quiet some time after she closed the door. Cupid had been locked and loaded and gave Jackson a direct shot to the chest. Even the next morning he was still feeling the effects, completely forgetting his security responsibilities at the Clover Casino. The remainder of the day was spent getting his outfit ready and being bugged by Porter guards to set up task forces for the night. After fitting on his tux and setting up the last check checkpoint, he turned back to the casino parking lot . "I'll see you gents later, gotta' pick up the date," He informed the guards as he opened up his car door. "Whipped already?" One of the guards called out to him. Jackson shoved his keys into the ignition and pulled onto the road, letting his middle finger give its' response as he peeled out.

After arriving at Blake's apartment, he instantly noticed how the vibe still felt genuine, even when they were both sober. Despite this, he pulled the Jack Daniels from her cabinet and pre-gamed with her. Not too much, but enough to deal with the ignorant reporters and greedy politicians that would be at the fundraiser. After killing the couple hours they had, Jackson opened the Cresta door for her and then climbed in himself. It was easy to spot the casino, it's vibrant lights illuminating the city. The neon was bright, the music was loud, and the crowd was rowdy.

As they pulled up into the reserved quadrant, the valet was quick to take control of the Cresta. Jackson immediately spotted the politicians in the same parking lot, the rest being roped off to the public. After walking over to the other side of the car, he met Blake's arm with his. Before walking onto the velvet carpet, however, Blake turned to him to adjust his tie. He smiled down to her as she diligently worked to straighten it. He was sure that she couldn't control the rebellious thing any better than he could, but sure enough, the tie gave in. He looked up at the crowd of paparazzi and reporters at her comment about women swooning over him. "Oh, I don't care about them. Question is," He moved his hands down to her, tilting his head with a smirk, "Is it working on you?" He raised his eyebrow, smiling brighter.

The casino was more packed than he had anticipated, immediately questioning if he had enough security stationed. He shifted his hand to Blake's and clenched it, not wanting to lose her in the large crowd. He looked around as Blake asked what he wanted to do. "Well, if you wanna' win, you chose the right partner." He nodded over to the Texas Hold'em table, which already had four separate couples seated around it. As he lead Blake through the thick crowd, he leaned into her ear. "When I was younger, I played street poker with kids who were a lot richer and bigger than me. I'm a master hustler." As they made there way over to the table, he rested on one of the chairs next to the intimidating looking couples. Tapping his knuckles on the table, the dealer slid them two cards. As he lifted them up, it exposed two Jacks. He tried to explain the importance of these cards, without exposing his excitement to the rest of the players. Leaning in close to her ear, he whispered, "Pocket Jacks are one of the best pairs you can get." Looking back to the table, he slid in two blue chips to the center of the table.

Mayor Lyndon Anderson
Mayor Lyndon Anderson had arrived late to the function. While he understood the importance of his presence, he would've preferred a written letter of his support. He was escorted down the velvet carpet, before being consumed by the flash of the cameras from the hungry reporters. He shook a couple hands, waved to the crowd, and got the hell inside. Although, it appeared to be just as chaotic as it was outside. His service men helped clear the way for him as he made his way down to the reserved booth.

Once he was seated most of the casino-goers ignored his presence, which was fine with him. He was able to spot James and Lucy out of the crowd, happy to see that they were already on their way to the booth. "Ah, Mr. Porter. Lovely event you set up," He firmly shook his hand with a smile. He was quickly interrupted by a waiter, who was eager to take their drink requests. "I'll have a dry martini. Stick some olives in there." With that, he nodded to the man and sent him off.

After scooting over for the Porters, he neatly rested his hands on the table. "I like what you've been doing the past couple of months. You've kept the control on your side, but what's all this business with these radicals." He looked to James, almost singling Lucy out of the conversation. "They blew up factories, apartments. I wouldn't think this would have anything to do with you, but they also shot up one of your in-law's clubs. You have any idea what the hell is going on?"

Blake wouldn't admit to anyone what she was feeling for Jackson, not even the man himself. It was a dangerous tune to play the heart strings like she was, and yet she couldn't get enough of the music she seemed to be making with Jackson. His charm was definitely taking a hold on her, but she was not going to reveal the dirty little secret. Instead she played coy as he nodded towards the Texas Hold 'em table. She raised a delicate blonde eyebrow and smiled softly as Jackson reveal that he was a master hustler. Blake leaned back slightly as they walked through the crowd, getting a good look at the man who was making her feel things she shouldn't. He was everything she could have wanted, and yet she wasn't allowed to have it. Something about that gave the whole night a new sense of urgency and excitement.

Blake joined Jackson over at the table and watched with interest as he joined in on the game. Her eyes looked around the table sizing up the competition before she rested them on Jackson again. She didn't make any sort of face as she looked at the cards he had, knowing that it would give him away if she did. Instead she looked blankly at them before Jackson leaned in to explain what he had in his hand, his whisper tickling her ear gently, causing goosebumps to form on her tanned skin. Nodding her head slowly, she bit her lip a moment before watching him take two blue chips and placing them in the center of the table. Blake was impressed with Jackson, a smile formed on her lips as she leaned against him, her arms linked through his one. "Better not disappoint me Jacky." She said flirtatiously to him, knowing well that he wouldn't with the information she was given just now. But it was all up to Lady Luck how he would do.

Blake's eyes looked around the table once more before scanning the crowds outside of the table, she saw James and Lucy speaking with the mayor off on of the far booths. And as she did a quick survey of the bar, her eyes found Rudy and Kieran's. She stared at them a moment before her features melted into a friendly smile, sending a wave their way before looking back to the table. Blake wondered if Kieran had sniffed out any information on her working for Ciara. It was crazy what happened to the woman, now locked up in prison for stabbing an officer. James' brother killed Grant, not that Blake had liked the asshole anyway. Jared was her new boss, and as of yet, she was only asked to continue digging. It was unclear if Kieran was still involved with IWU mole operation but it was information she had yet to reveal to Jared. Realizing she was most likely missing out on the game, Blake looked back to the Jackson and the table, waiting anxiously.

Rudy Meyers and Kieran Joyce
Rudy Meyers.jpgAfter a while of sitting, drinking, and chatting Kieran moved to stand up, "Wanna play the tables, Mr. Meyers?" He asked, patting the man on the shoulder to pull his attention away from the redheaded bar mistress he had been chatting up. The German frowned and turned to him, "Sure, let me just pay my tab."

With the drinks paid up, the two men walked to the cashier and bought fifty pounds of chips apiece and strolled over towards the tables. They sat down across from Jackson and Blake, and Kieran signaled for the dealer to deal them both in.

"Alright, gents, ante up if you're playing. Ante's a pound," the dealer shouted, running the cards through an electric card shuffler that then spat out a mechanistically randomized poker deck. The two men threw in their chips and began to play, after making a cursory nod in Jackson's direction and adding a hello. Rudy, for his part, immediately lit up a cigarette from his coat pocket and accosted a cocktail waitress while thrusting her a few bills, "Can I get another gin, dollface?"

kieran alternate2.pngKieran, for his part, looked down at his hand. He had a pair of threes, a bad hand. He watched as the dealer burned cards and laid the river. He looked from the dealer's hand, following it up to his shoulder, then the man's face. He then scanned Jackson's face, simply because he was a prospective opponent. His eyes moved to Blake, and they lingered. Once you've seen one All-American-looking blonde you've seen them all, but no, there was something unmistakably familiar about her face, he just couldn't put his finger on it. His analytical eyes drifted back down to his cards as the dealer finished laying them out on the table.

"Four of a kind, nines," he said, laying down his two threes to play with the other two the dealer had laid and a nine high card. He lit a cigarette and looked towards the dealer for confirmation he had won the hand.

Jackson McCarthy

rsz_1b4fadf2224bf798e86f07c3fbeca2b8d.jpgJackson smiled as Blake told him not to disappoint her, keeping his eyes on the dealer. Despite the cards in his hand, he was simply feeling out the water with his competition. His eyes scanned across the table, looking for obvious tells that he could use later on in the game. His advantage, however, came from the cocktail glass beside the dealer, which he could ever so slightly make out some of the cards of his competitors. Reaching into his coat pocket, he brandished a cuban. He pressed it against his lips and pulled the zippo lighter up, passively lighting the tip of the cleanly cut cigar.

His eyes trailed to Kieran and Rudy as they made their way to the table. Being somewhat familiar with Rudy, he raised his hand off the table in a seldom "Hello". Kieran, on the other hand, had kept himself distant from most of the Porters. Still, a game was a game. As he felt the man's eyes linger on him, he wasn't afraid to return the stare. He rested his open arm on the back of Blake's chair, shifting up in his own. As the dealer continued to lay down the cards, Jackson lost interest in his own hand. Despite having pocket jacks, none of the cards the dealer placed helped make his hand suitable for a victory. On Fifth Street, Jackson kept his chips by his side. He watched as Kieran placed down the four of a kind. He offered a smile to Kieran as the chips were pushed off to his side of the table. He then recycled his cards with the rest of the group.

His hand moved down to Blake's with a reassuring stroke. The soon-to-be priest had some luck to him. Jackson was ready to test it as he opened his hand to receive the cards. Sliding the cards his way, he looked up at the pair. His face remained passive, not showing any hint of a tell to the rest of the group. As the dealer moved onto Fifth Street, Jackson looked up to Kieran - out of respect for his opponent. Placing his cards on the table, they seemed to match up respectively with the six, seven, and eight of clubs on the table. He didn't need to look to the dealer for confirmation, instead tapping his cigar on the ash tray. After receiving his opponent's chips, he whispered into Blake's ear, "Diamond-studded shoes, is it?"

Ryan Donahue
tuxedo.jpgRyan had not been looking this dapper in years, but it would be his work attire for the night. The last couple of days had been busy for him as he prepared for the Casino event. Though he had not had much time to himself, the revelation that James had dropped on him was often at the forefront of his mind when he was alone. He was still angry and felt betrayed, but it had been tempered and was mostly directed at Conor. Though he had mostly forgiven James for accepting a Romano into the family, he would have to actually meet Alexandra before he would begin to move past this debacle. But he had neither the time nor inclination to seek out either of the dubious pair and settle the affair.

Sinead's soft and innocent voice brought him back to the present only to greeted by her charming smile. It was hard to imagine that the sheltered girl that he'd known so long ago had grown into the beautiful mother of three that sat beside him. Returning the contagious smile with a warm one of his own, "That's a long story and hardly one that would entertain a woman as becoming as yourself." A bit of shade briefly flashed across his face before he swept the dark nostalgia away. Her company made it easier, especially watching her face expressing her emotions so freely. It reminded Ryan a little of himself, at least before the last couple of days had left him burdened. "No, I'm used to much harsher commanders. James is almost gentle in comparison, though he seems he's been stretched thin lately." Donahue chuckled a little a when he saw a glimmer of a pout when she mentioned that James had been keeping her husband busy. "Hopefully you'll being seeing more of your man now that I've been imported in." Ryan leaned in closer to Sinead to whisper in her ear, not wanting to chance hurting Peter's pride. "Perhaps, your man and me should switch places next time. It would probably be safer for everyone." He gave the woman a wink to convey that he was just teasing her as he leaned back towards the door.

Once they had arrived, Ryan wished for the Callahans to enjoy their night before parting ways as it was time to ply his trade. First checking with employees up front to make sure that everyone had arrived, he made his way to the security office to make sure everyone there was accounted for and that there weren't any last minute changes. Slightly annoyed that the Mayor was running late, Ryan stopped in the restroom to readjust the holster that held his M1911 and the couple of magazines that was under his jacket and to freshen up a bit before he started patrolling the upper level of the casino that overlooked the main floor. James had told him that he wasn't expecting trouble, but Ryan still convinced him to replace some of the waiters and dealers with undercover security in addition to the regular security detail. He doubted that IWU would take their warehouse being torched laying down, so he scanned the floor as he stood close to the railing with his hands behind his back vigilant as a hawk.

Alexander Quinn Armstrong
Opry Tux.jpgThe eldest Armstrong child had been waiting in the foyer when he heard his father leave his study. His sibling was delayed as on par for the norm. Quinn thought about announcing his presence but decided against it as they would find him unassisted and he wanted to run through the information sifting through his head before saving it away for later. He double checked to make sure his attire was in order for the fourth time before it dawned on him that nerves were getting the better of him. Not surprising, as the revelations of late have been dire I suppose. Quinn was referring to the cascade of events that had happened of late. With the Head of the IWU, Ciara, being arrested and her brother, Michael, dying not long prior. This had led to his father being 'voted' into Ciara's now empty position and Quinn being asked to reorganize the IWU's records and contracts for his father.

This of course provided a minor challenge to him, at least until the fire at the warehouse. Having little entertainment of late, Quinn had decided to investigate the extent of the damage himself and discovered the remains of partially melted firearms. At first, he thought he'd stumbled across a small weapons cache that had some of the workers were selling on the side, but as he found an increasing amount of remains, Quinn became more concerned. While aware that he had discovered something dangerous, he felt he needed evidence before taking to his father. Over the next day, Quinn had gone through all the documents related to the warehouse in question. He quickly found that while most of them had been destroyed in the fire, he still found evidence that alarmed him. What he could find were suspect documents written by his father. The documents never bared his father's name but he recognized his handwriting as he had seen it many times in his life.

Quinn had intended to question his father but had decided to wait until after the family's night out. He normally could predict how people react but Quinn realized that he could be unveiling a facet of his father that he'd not known was there, so he was unsure of what would happen. This was the source of his now fraying nerves and he was checking his reflection in the foyer mirror to make sure that it wasn't showing. Just have to make my way through tonight's events and then perhaps I'll find the answers I seek about father. Quinn told himself as he adjusted his bowtie for the third time.

James Porter

James smiled fondly when Lucy mentioned the pier and the cliffs overlooking Lake Michigan. "Ireland has some beautiful cliffs too. Perhaps that's our next date sorted. We'll find a new favourite spot right here," he suggested to her. "Though I already proposed at home this time, so we'll have to think of another way to make our new favourite location so special." He frowned slightly at the reminder that some of their dates had a habit of ending badly back in Chicago. "That psychotic prick is well and truly dead, so we're good on that front," he reassured her. His smile returned at the thought of some time alone together. "Then that's what we'll do. Are you free on Friday?" he curiously asked her.

"Well, I could try my luck at winning big, but I'm afraid people would accuse me of cheating. The owner of his own casino winning? That's bound to look dodgy," he joked. "Besides, I like the other idea... Perhaps I'll save my luck for later," he returned her flirtations.

James saw some activity out of the corner of his eye, so turned to see the Mayor approaching with his service men. "Look who finally decided to show up," he lightly remarked to Lucy. In reality, he liked the guy, but figured this might have been an effort for him to show up. He got up from his seat and returned the man's firm handshake. "Good evening, Mayor Anderson. I'm glad you could make it," he warmly greeted him. He paused to allow the waiter to take the man's order, before they both took their seats in the booth. James didn't feel he needed to remind the Mayor that attending a fundraiser such as this could only work in his favour should he wish to be re-elected.

James listened as the man spoke about the recent attacks across the city. He found himself having to hold back his annoyance at his rudeness towards Lucy. Such an attitude was nothing new, but still a little frustrating, nonetheless. "I'm sure you're aware of my success at keeping this city under control for years now. You must also be aware that people evolve and find new ways to cause trouble. I'm looking into the matter and I've been making progress. The fact my family was attacked only proves I'm closing in on them and causing them to react. Unfortunately, dealing with people like this isn't a matter of signing papers and having cosy dinners. A few eggs will be broken before they are completely disarmed. I'm doing everything I can to reduce the impact on innocent civilians." James glanced past Anderson to see Detective Donnelly keeping watch from a distance. "Your friend Donnelly has been doing his bit to assist in this. However, I believe his work his hindered by corruption within the police force. The same corruption that has been covered up for years. That's something I don't have the power to control."

Sinead Callahan

1526763817210-png.442014
Sinead caught Peter looking to her through the rearview mirror and couldn't help but display a bashful smile, which turned into a brief giggle when Rudolph berated him for not paying attention to the road. She wound the back window down a little in anticipating of Rudolph's cigarette smoke blowing into the back of the car. For the moment, she decided to hold off giving her lecture about smoking. She expected there'd be plenty of time to get annoyed about smoke once in the casino where there would be smoking in abundance.

Sinead focused back to Ryan as he explained that his story might not entertain her. She was sure by now no story could shock or surprise her, given the family she had. She was also sure his story wouldn't be boring, and she had sat through some very boring stories in the past. She smiled as Ryan explained he'd had harsher bosses than James. "Ahh, well James has lightened up at least a little since Chicago. Perhaps the effects of having Luce and the kids. He's still super bossy, though..." she admitted. "James got Dublin under control but then some witch came along and started causing trouble for us all. Everyone is so busy now because of it." She maintained her pout until Ryan leaned in to whisper something to her. A thin smile crossed her lips as he suggested taking Peter's place, but she softly shook her head. She knew this was what Peter wanted and following her initial distress at him working for James again, they'd come to an understanding. Still, she appreciated knowing there was another member of the gang to ease her husband's workload at least a little. She'd been doing everything she could to support Peter and make sure he returned to a warm home and a loving family every night.

Once parked up at the casino, Sinead took Peter's hand and stepped out of the car. "Thank you, kind gentleman," she graciously told him. She looked to his face as he asked if she'd done something different, telling her she looked amazing. She gasped as she'd forgotten to breathe for a moment, taken back by his big compliment. She practically melted into him as he wrapped his arms around her. He always managed to make her feel so special. "Thank you, baby..." she began, before hearing Peter apologise to the two men. Rudolph and Ryan seemed to quickly go their own way, either really excited about a spot of gambling, wanting to focus on their job, or just wanting to leave the married couple alone.

Sinead linked arms with Peter as they walked towards the casino, but she pulled back a little to give them some distance from everyone else. "You look soooo handsome, Pete. You always do," she told him. She smiled as she kept thinking of how his compliments had made her feel. "I don't know what I did different... I don't wear green so often, but I figured it would fit tonight's theme, you know what I mean?" she excitedly asked. "And this dress has a really nice shape to it and lifts my chest, so my breas--" she fell silent as she realised the were now within the crowds of the casino. She un-linked from Peter and turned to face him, casually taking a glass of champagne from the tray of the passing waitress. "Are you going to go do some gambling?" she asked him. "I don't know much about most of these games, but I'm happy to watch you. Or I can play that spinning wheel thing, right? All I have to do is pick a number, really..." She brightly smiled, taking a sip of her drink. "Or we can sit down with the others. I really don't mind. I'm just happy we're all out together, so it's your choice!"

Ali was both flattered and surprised that Tommy had asked her to be his date tonight. What surprised her even more was her freaking out on what she wanted to wear for the even. She had gone through a dozen different outfits and she hated them all. Eventually she settled on a gown and shrugged her shoulders. "What does it matter? This dress might end up on the floor anyway." She joked to herself in the mirror. As she started to leave, she noticed she hadn't seen or heard from her brother. She assumed this meant he was either hiding from her or the work James had him doing was taking up his time. Either way, she was sure he would be present tonight and planned on confronting him about his betrayal.

She shook her head at his comment and smiled. "Well, if you've got a lucky streak then really you don't need me. Better, I need you to be my good luck charm." She was playing with her hair in the mirror before looking at him. "And as always, you clean up very nicely, sir." The next thing Ali knew was Alex and Conor getting into the back seat of the car. Ever since Alex's arrival, Conor and Ali's relationship had been tense. She hadn't spoken any words to him since that day and now here he sat with the mother of his child.

She still hadn't narrowed down why she was feeling the way she was. Before she could stop herself from making the risque comment, the words just flowed out. "Well, if Tommy boy plays his cards right tonight, he may win more than just money." She shot Tommy a wink before internally berating herself for such a comment.

For several weeks Leo had been busy going over books James entrusted him with. Usually it didn't take long for him to spot things, but this was taking longer than usual. Perhaps because he hadn't actually ever looked for anything being wrong in books before, but what ever the case. He was finally done and was going to bring his findings to James later that night. He hadn't seen much of his sister after all the drama. Of course, he did see her when she holed herself up, even took care of her. But the past week he hadn't seen her.

If anything, he was avoiding her and any questions she might have asked him. But, he knew going out tonight would mean that he would eventually have to speak to her. He was prepared for it, if it came to it. For now, he was focused on having a good evening, perhaps even a good one with Del. He had missed her these past few weeks, not seeing her either. Leo was going to make it his personal mission to make up being absent for so long.

Arriving at his destination, he immediately sat at a cards table and began his game.

Lucy Porter

Lucy liked the idea of finding a new place in Ireland similar to the cliff back in Chicago, having a space that they would only know about. She smiled widely as he asked if she was available on Friday, "Well, I'll have to check my calendar, but I'm sure I could squeeze you in somewhere." She purred to him with a wink. He moved on to address her comment about winning big tonight, and she laughed nodding her head in agreement that everyone would find it strange that the owner won big. Well aware of that, she was glad to give him another opportunity to win big, even though it might not have any sort of cash value. When James spoke about someone finally showing up, her head turned to stare in the Mayor's direction. Having met the man on few occasions she found him to be...tolerable. Though it was like she was a window that he could see right through whenever he was around, meaning that he literally did not acknowledge her existence half the time when James and her spoke with him. And when he did finally speak to her face, it was normally to say something horrendously sexist, but in the nicest of ways.

Lucy simply smirked at her husbands remark and let the men shake hands, not bothering to stand up and greet him. It would be useless to even try, so she nursed her drink as they settled in for a conversation. As the man spoke about the attacks on the city, Lucy was well aware of how the man seemed to be doing his very best to keep her out of the loop of conversation. Turning his body to cut her out and only speaking directly to James. As Lucy set down her empty glass, she stared down Mayor Anderson, willing him to actually acknowledge her. The blonde was growing tired of men who thought they held some sort of status over women, the times were changing, but slowly. The hand that rested in her lap twitched, wanting to slap the man silly for a moment. Instead she kept her composure as she flagged down a waiter to get her another drink.

Blake Walsh

Blake was amused to see Rudy and Kieran join the same table for a game. After having just waved to them, she wondered if they were here to converse or simply just try their hand at the game. Watching the men closely, she could see that this was definitely not just a casual game. A chill ran through her however as she found Kieran staring at her now. The look in his eyes proved to her that he recognized her. Blake looked around the table quickly, trying to distract herself from his stare a moment and establishing a poker face of her own again. Once Blake was sure her blue eyes would reveal nothing to the religious man, she face him again and raised a delicate blonde eyebrow his way. Rudy seemed to be busy with his own hand to pay attention to Blake's stares but she was well ware of what he may have thought of her.A smile shown on her face a moment before looking back to Jackson's hand. When it was time to show cards, Blake was surprised to see that Kieran had won. Blake looked to Jackson with a slight pout on her face, but she could only hold it a moment before she broke into a smile.

Jackson's hand moved to stroke hers reassuringly before the next game started quickly. Blake continued to look on with interest as Jackson once again seemed to have a good hand. Blake looked to the faces at the table again before her eyes looked out around them. Seeing the familiar face of the Detective in the corner did not settle well with her, though he was one of the farthest people she would think could figure her out , he still had the resources to. Cut off a man's resources and he is nothing. Blake's eyes looked to the table just in time to see Jackson placing his cards down on the table. "Hey would you look at that." Blake murmured before Jackson leaned in to whisper in her ear. She chuckled softly before moving to whisper back,"Only the best for this princess." a teasing look appearing on her face, as she bit her lip lightly.

Jared and Grace Armstrong

1526850533689.pngJared couldn't keep the broad smile from his face as his wife excitedly greeted him. She was the sweetest thing and had been that way when he first met her. Whilst his initial attraction to her had been because of her physical beauty, it was her enticing personality that made him keep returning to see her. He was always thankful for those trips he'd made to the bakery back in his teenage years. "And I intend on letting you keep me, Sweetie-Pie," he said, keeping hold of the silly nickname he'd given her long ago. "I promise. No more work, this evening," he assured her. After all, Carter now had his instructions and he trusted his right-hand man to complete his task.

When Faye said the kids would be ready any minute, Jared glanced to his watch and let out a whistle. "It's a good job I know Lily well enough by now, huh? The table is booked for 7.30pm, not 7pm. Figured she'd be on time if I gave her an earlier deadline," he confessed to his wife, with a small chuckle. "Honestly, what takes the girl so long? You look smoking hot even when you've just crawled out of bed," he complimented her.

Jared listened attentively as Faye deliberated over the dog's name, unable to hide the amusement from his face as she spoke of giving it a human name. "Andy it is! And you are very welcome. Don't think I didn't catch the not-so-subtle hints about you wanting a pet. I'm just pleased I chose the correct species."

Grace practically hopped down the stairs, knowing everyone else was ready for dinner. She was dressed casually in jeans and a tank top, which she was suddenly unsure about the second she spotted Quinn in a formal suit. She peered into the lounge to see her parents also dressed very smartly. "Ohhh. It's that kind of dinner..." she awkwardly told Quinn, pulling a comical frown. "Give me ten more minutes!" she called out, before rushing upstairs to swap into a more suitable outfit.

Peter had been embarrassed as they entered the Casino, he had been caught gawking at his wife like a boy by Rudy and he was sure the man wouldn't let him forget it now. Still, he would never stop staring her way as she looked as beautiful as ever tonight. Sinead's compliments about his own appearance made him turn red and he smiled sheepishly at her. "Oh thank you doll." He murmured to her and listened with interest as she went on to help solve the mystery of what she had done differently with her look tonight. He nodded along until she mentioned something about the dress really complimenting her chest. Peter's eyes went dry as he forced himself to control the urge to look, to confirm that the green dress did exactly that. He cleared his throat quickly as Sinead's face showed that she realized what she said in public. Peter was still as he continued to fight the urge, listening intensely as Sinead spoke of what to do. As he looked around the casino, he found relief from having to control himself and wondered what he wanted to do. He wasn't much of a card player...well he had been a long time ago, when he really really needed the money, but now he tired of such things. "I think I want to spend the night with you my love." He admitted to her lightly, hoping she wouldn't be disappointed in him not playing.

"I'd be much too distracted to play a game with you in this outfit," He said with a wink before leading her towards the others. "We should see what the others are up to, drinking seems to be the main event for the evening, we are both really good at that." He laughed at the fun he poked at themselves before dodging through the crowd of people. The security was tight tonight, so he knew that he wouldn't need to worry about checking around the casino, but that didn't stop him from at least looking as he passed the tables. For anyone who could be deemed suspicious, anything that looked out of order. So far, it was all clear, and he smiled with relief at the fact that he could have a good night with his wife and family at this event.

Faye was pleased that she would finally get her husband back for the evening, it had seemed like lately, he had been far too busy with work to spend time at home. Regardless, she was proud of everything her husband was doing and where he was going in life. He had been able to provide more than his share for the family and treated her like a Queen. It was hard to believe he was the same person that he was when they first met as teenagers. Maturity was a handsome look on a man, and he was making her swoon. She let out a light laugh as he complained about their daughters tardiness, her cheeks tinting red as he claimed that she rolled out of bed smoking hot, to which she playfully swiped his arm. "Jared Lucian Armstrong!" She said in mock horror at his words. "Don't want the children to hear such things about their mother!" She said in protest but the large smile on her face showed she was teasing him.

She shrugged her shoulders and looked over at the clock on the wall a moment. "You know she's at a fragile age Jarebear, being young is tough. Don't you remember, or has it been far too long since you've been young?" She paused looking to the staircase, seeing Grace descend the stairs. Faye looked down at her evening gown before looking to her daughters casual appearance and smile softly as the girl turned around and ran upstairs to change, stating that she needed ten more minutes. "Anything you wear will be just fine sweetie!" Faye reminded her daughter before slowly shaking her head. "I love how free she is, but sometimes I fear her mind is too free...I told her that this was more of a formal dinner."

rsz_1b4fadf2224bf798e86f07c3fbeca2b8d.jpgAfter a few more games, Jackson decided not to test the boundaries of his luck much further - even finding a royal flush after a back and forth of raising the stakes. Happy with his winnings, he excused himself from the table and helped Blake onto her feet. "Good game, lads," Jackson said as he moved to grab Blake's hand and nod to the group. It was hard to conceal his smile, glad to know that he could back up his bark with a bite. After cashing in the chips for hard cash, he slipped the notes into his coat pocket. "To be honest, it was a lot more satisfying taking from punk kids back in the day," He whispered to Blake, sending his final regards to the table.

As they walked through the large crowd, he noticed the temp change as the dance floor became more populated. "Now, what's a date without a propa' dance? Fancy one?" He raised an eyebrow to Blake with a smile, leading her by the hand to the dance floor. He slipped through the sea of couples, finding a spot in the dead center. The timing proved to be perfect, as Elvis Presely's 'Can't Help Falling in Love' slipped onto the record. Turning to her, he rested his hands on her lower back. Being face to face with her once more, he could only admire her beauty further. Something about being so close to her was intoxicating. Such a strong connection for him was almost unheard of. "How did a gorgeous woman like you get dropped in my life?" He asked, his blue eyes locking with hers.

Mayor Lyndon Anderson
Lyndon sat back as the waiter returned with their drinks, pulling the alcoholic beverage to him as James continued to speak. As he began to explain that eggs will be broken, he aggressively shook his head. Due to having a mouth full of the drink, he could only rapidly shake his hand to silence James. After gulping down the fiery substance, he looked up to the man. "That's not how I run this city. I will not allow for women and child to be harmed under my watch. If this is the case of you squeezing in on them, then leave them alone for god sakes."

He slowly shook his head, looking to the populated crowd around them. "Look at this, all these happy people here to celebrate your cause. This is what this city represents; genuine people who support a healthy community. If these bastards want to moan about it, then let them. I don't want them leveling structures because you're giving them a reaction that they can feed off of."

He loosened the tie of his neck, feeling constricted for some reason. "You've done a great job, aye - no denying that. While it isn't the cleanest thing I've been involved in, you're a necessary evil," He shoved his thumb in the direction behind them. "These are the same punks we've always had to deal with. The thing about them is, they're all talk. They just want attention, they bloody crave it. If you just turn your back on them, they'll crawl back into their miserable holes."

When Aliana replied to Conor's question, Tommy quickly shot his head around to look at her, before returning his attention to the road ahead. There was a smile on his face at the thought of her words, that money might not be all he'd win tonight. Her wink hadn't helped to reduce his sudden curiosity either. "No objections here..." he quietly replied.

"More than just money, huh?" Conor replied, a grin on his face. He couldn't be injealous in that moment, being that he was now back with Alex and Tommy was a good friend who deserved a bit of fun, or more. "Well, you go easy on the poor lad. We need him in good shape for business!"

Once at the casino, Tommy left the other couple to go their way and he took Aliana's hand to help her out of the car. Only now could be properly appreciate the flattering dress she was wearing. "Jeez... You look pretty amazing, Ali. Stunning..." he told her, almost lost for words. "I think I'm going to spend my night fighting off your admirers. If I'm not cramping your style, of course," he teased. As they walked through the place and grabbed a couple of drinks, Tommy realised they were fast approaching one of the cards tables, where Leo was playing. "Do I need to call your brother an ambulance now?" he remarked. Despite his joke, he was still feeling bad about letting Leo's secret slip.

Jared and Grace Armstrong

Jared laughed when Faye berated him for speaking so boldly with the kids around. "Ah, come on. What's wrong with them knowing how much their dad appreciates their mum? Perhaps it'll rub off on them so they seek relationships just as strong as ours. Obviously, Grace doesn't have to worry about that for a good while yet... Maybe not until she's 40, yes?" he half-joked.

His smile left his face at mention of their daughter being at a fragile age. "I thought I was being soft, actually. However, I'm not about to argue about this being a fragile age for her. I know you ladies go through things I don't really want to hear too much about. Hair and make-up weren't things I needed to worry about as a teenager, either." When Grace made a brief appearance, wearing casual clothing, Jared couldn't help but disagree with Faye saying anything would be fine. The restaurant they were going to would have a dress code and Grace would only draw unwanted looks from the other diners. He figured the girl wouldn't want to feel uncomfortable being stared at... fragile age and all that. He was glad the young woman realised the error without him having to say it. "Perhaps she just forgot, or wasn't paying attention when you told her. If you want me to lay the law down, I'm happy to do so. I'm not afraid of being the bad guy," he assured his wife.

1526873804714.pngGrace eventually returned downstairs in a much more appropriate outfit. Formal and nothing her family would say was too revealing. She peered into the lounge again to make her presence known. "Come on, you two. we're going to be late," she teased her parents. She then returned to Quinn and smiled. "Well, don't you look smart, brother," she said, playfully straightening his bow tie. "Are you okay, Quinn? You look like you've got something on your mind, but we're only going for dinner. It'll be fun. Dad will tell you how great you're managing the store and he'll tell me to stop slacking with college. You'll get off lightly, trust me." She flashed him a bright smile. She knew it was difficult for her brother too, having to keep up with their father's high expectations.

Jared was pleased to see Grace was finally ready, so he went to retrieve his car keys and waited until Faye had all of her things. "Ready to go, Sweetie?" he asked his wife.

Sinead Callahan

Sinead beamed when Peter said he wanted to spend the night with her. There were a lot of familiar faces around and plenty of things for a person to do, yet Peter had chosen to spend the evening with her. It felt good to be put first, even before the apparent fun of the casino games. "I want to spend it with you too, Petey." She giggled when he said he'd be distracted anyway. "Gosh, I should wear this dress more often. You're making me blush," she told him.

"I'm cool with drinking tonight," she agreed as they walked through the crowds to seek out the reserved area. "Not Conor-level drunk, though. I couldn't handle that," she added. When they reached the reserved area, Sinead noticed Lucy and James speaking with the Mayor, though it seemed like her sister wasn't doing any of the talking. She squeezed Peter's hand as she remained standing, trying to gt Lucy's attention. When she did, she beckoned her sister over. "Luce looks fed up. Hopefully she'll come sit with us and have some drinks. I'm sure the last thing she wants is to listen to politics. It's certainly not my idea of fun. Yuck!"

James Porter

James sat forward and maintained eye-contract with Lyndon as he spoke. "Let me just make one thing clear. My top priority is to always ensure women and children are protected in all of this. I've been taking active steps to disarm the criminals who would not hesitate to kill innocent people along the way." He shook his head. "They would have blown up those buildings with or without my intervention."

James sat back and relaxed a little when Lyndon said he had been doing a good job. "Granted, most of the gangs around here consist of petty criminals demanding attention, but it still pays to keep them in their place before they find the resources to become a genuine threat." With Ciara behind bars, James was confident at least some of their problems had been resolved. "But rest assured, I believe the threat of further explosions has now been dismantled and removed from this city. The police department has shown willingness to turn their backs on these issues, but I'm not sure I can. If things are allowed to escalate, then they will become far more difficult to stop. I will do everything in my power not to break more eggs, but I will not turn a blind eye to Dublin's problems."

James noticed Sinead trying to get Lucy's attention and was already aware his wife was being left out of the conversation. He reached his hand down to give hers a reassuring squeeze. He turned to her and smiled, hoping the gesture would show he felt bad but also wanted her to join her sister and to enjoy her evening.

Blake Walsh

Blake smiled proudly and stood with the help of Jackson, "Enjoy the rest of your night, gentlemen." Blake murmured to the table before allowing Jackson to lead the way. She smiled happily as he whispered in her ear, chuckling at his words. "Well at least its all for a good cause right?" She asked lightly and raised her eyebrow as the man suggested they dance. He didn't seem like he would be the man who enjoyed dancing, but Jackson had a way of surprising her almost every single day. Biting her lip, she nodded her head. "Dancing sounds lovely right about now." She said to him as he moved his way through the sea of people straight to the center of the dance floor. Mr. Presely played in the background and it caused Blake to smile widely. "I love this song." She whispered to Jackson as they stood face to face now. Jackson's warm hands wrapped around her lower back and she moved her own to wrap around his neck lightly. She hummed along with the music, her hips swaying back and forth in rhythm slightly but still allowing him to lead her however he wished.
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin?
If I can't help falling in love with you
Those lyrics made her still a moment in her movements, her eyes stared into Jackson's as he asked his question. If he had known the true reason for her so suddenly dropping into his life...Blake simply smiled at Jackson a moment as they twirled around slowly in the center of the dance floor. Her eyes continued to stare into his own blue orbs and she felt like she was swimming for a moment. Light headed and purely happy, she answered his question by singing along,
" Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Blake hummed along another moment before really taking the time to answer him. "Fate works in mysterious ways Mr. McCarthy. I'm glad it brought me to you."

Faye Armstrong

Faye chuckled as Jared mentioned that he was willing to be the bad guy if he had too, to which she shook her head quickly. "Oh no no no! You know our children our angels dear, no need to play the bad cop." She said before clapping her hands together as their daughter made a second appearance in an outfit that was appropriate for the occasion. "Oh Lily love, you look absolutely adorble! Is that the top i bought you dear?" She asked happily before her eyes looked to Quinn who had quietly appeared. "And you, my handsome boy, looking as handsome as your father! Ugh!" She swooned over her two beautiful children before turning to Jared as he questioned if she was ready to go.

Faye quickly moved to grab her coat and her purse before placing both items on. Slinging her purse over her shoulder, she smiled warmly at her family before nodding her head. "I'm--" A whimper cut her off before she had a chance to announce that she was officially ready. Looking down, little Andy whimpered at his new mum, beginning to howl for someone to pay attention to him. Faye snapped her finger once, "Almost forgot! Andy needs his dinner!" She said before hurrying to get his dog food and bowl. Scurrying to the kitchen, Andy clumsily followed after her eager to eat. She returned moments later with a happy sigh. "Alright now lets go eat! it'll be nice to not have to cook for the night!" She said happily before taking Jared's arm and heading out the door with them all.

The conversation at the booth had gotten so intense that Lucy had now dazed off, having gone unnoticed to the Mayor altogether, she didn't bother to say anything in the conversation as she just people watched. She had just polished off her second drink when she caught Sinead waving her down enthusiastically. Lucy turned her head slightly to look towards James and the Mayor after he had squeezed her hand. Her husband smiled at her to which she smiled back. He was giving her the signal that she was clear to go off and enjoy her evening if she wished to. The blonde was relieved by this, leaning in, she kissed his cheek gently before sliding out of the booth. Not bothering to excuse herself from the Mayor's presence, she looked to James a moment longer before turning to join Sinead.

She smiled widely at Sinead and Peter as she approached the couple. "You have saved me from that god awful conversation and I thank you a million for it." Lucy admitted to her sister. She moved to sit down next to the couple before ordering herself another drink. Peter looked to Sinead and Lucy with amusement as he took a large gulp of his own drink, "That bad huh?" He asked his sister-in-law to which she scoffed, "Yea, the prick didn't even acknowledge me. My hand was itching to slap him." She told Peter and when her drink arrived she graciously took a large sip of it. Looking to Sinead, she smiled and looked at her dress. "I love this on you Sin! I may just have to steal it sometime." A smirk formed on her lips, "Though with your short frame, this dress would look like a t-shirt on me." She chuckled. "Green is a great color on you!"

Kieran Joyce and Rudolph Meyers
kieran alternate2.png"Good game indeed," murmured Kieran, who had come away a few dollars up but mostly from Rudy's pile as the German was a poor gambler. The seminarian pulled a package of cigarettes out of his pocket and shook one loose, lighting up for the second time since he had been at the table.

"She's a snake," Kieran said softly as Rudolph rejoined him with the money from their chips.

"Who is?" Rudy asked, confused.

"Blake, I've seen her before. She has to work for the IWU."

Rudy furrowed his brow and scratched his head, "Shit Kieran, are you sure?"

"Not 100 percent," he winced, "maybe you should try to smoke her out, Mr. Meyers?"

Rudy Meyers.jpgRudy put his face in his hand for a brief moment before sticking his money in his pockets as they began to walk around the slot machines. They took up a spot along a low balcony that separated the blackjack and roulette tables from the nickel slots, smoking into the thick, warm air of the casino. From here, they cast their eyes towards the dance floor and then towards the restaurant where Kieran could just barely make out Lucy from her dress.

Rudy frowned and placed his hands on the railing, "I thought it was weird how fast those two got flung together, what with his old girl dyin' in a tragic explosion and all."

"I'm just concerned about what this means for me, Mr. Meyers. She has to know I'm still in with the Porters. Armstrong could send his thugs to ice me at the snap of a finger."

"Relax, Kieran. I'm not so sure you're right. I saw her at the club, she was about shot to death. Surely they wouldn't go to that extreme."

"I'm disappointed in your naiveté, Rudolph," said Kieran, looking him squarely and intently in the eyes.

Alexander Quinn Armstrong
Opry Tux.jpgThough his thoughts was slightly interrupted by his sibling's initial animated entrance and her just as abrupt departure as she quickly realized that her attire was mismatched to the rest of her family's. While he wouldn't have normally minded, as he learned to accept his sister as she was, their destination required a certain amount of class. Quinn shook his head a little as he rolled his eyes as he watched his sister scamper back up the stairs. How is it that we're related? Surely, she would of picked up the ability to think ahead more clearly by now. How hopeless, but I suppose that is part of her charm.

When his sister returned in formal attire not much later, it made Quinn wonder if she pulled the attire out in her debate on what to wear previously as she had returned sooner than he expected. He gave his sibling a quick vexing look as she left his bowtie slightly askew but her playful calmness helped ease his nerves. "Yes, and you certainly look the part as well, sister." He teased her slightly, knowing that her first pick of clothing was more to her personal taste. Quinn cracked a pensive smile when she ask after his well being. "I am just thinking about something I need to bring up to father after dinner, so do try to not ruffle his feathers too much tonight, Lily. Perhaps, I will inform you of the results in the morning if all goes well." He was normally much more forthcoming with his sister, but the subject was dicey and he would rather not speak ill of his father until he knew for sure what was going on.

Quinn stored away the rest of his troublesome thoughts as their parents joined them in the foyer. While he avoided direct eye contact with his father, he beamed brightly for his mother as she doted on them. "You looking as fetching as well, mother. I'm sure you'll be talk of the town after tonight." Lily had had always teased him for being a 'momma's boy', and while it annoyed him, he found himself unable to fully deny it. For it was certainly true that he was close to his mother as they shared many commonalities and she always provided counsel and understanding. While he loved his father, Quinn had not always been the model son that lived up to his expectations and as a result their relationship had been somewhat distant until recently, as much as his sister may say otherwise.

Jared nodded his head when Faye assured him their children were angels. "And where would I be without my wife and children keeping me out of trouble?" he remarked. He was sure he had a good idea already, but he appreciated having his family around to keep him grounded and to help him maintain the persona he required the public to see in the coming weeks and even months. He believed his family was a respectable one, whilst the Porters - his greatest opponents - had a lot of dirt to their name. From Conor Sullivan's petty crimes to the blood on their hands back in Chicago. Jared knew his reputation was spotless in comparison.

Jared smiled as Faye praised their daughter. "Your mother's right, Lily. You look very pretty and sophisticated tonight." He also echoed Faye's sentiment towards Quinn, in his own Jared way. "Looking dashing over there, Quinn. No doubt taking inspiration from your old man and the tailors shop," he remarked.

The man was happy everyone was now ready and they could go out to eat. That was until Faye remembered to feed the puppy. "Lord, what have I done?" he joked. He leaned against wall as he waited for his wife to feed the dog, still amused that she'd chosen a human name for the animal. Once she'd finished, Jared placed arm around Faye's waist and walked with her out to the family car.

When Quinn explained he was going to talk to Jared about something after dinner, Grace raised a suspicious eyebrow. "What is it? Are you moving out? New job? Ohhh, please tell me you've got a new job and it's something he'll hate, so then he gets off my back," she excitedly teased him. She then allowed herself to be more serious. "I promise I'll be on my best behaviour so Dad is in good spirits for your talk. You'd better tell me what it's all about in the morning!"

"Awww, thanks, Mum," Grace replied when her outfit was complimented. "Yeah, this is the top you got me. I figure it would look nice paired up with this skirt." Grace watched her brother and mother interact, unable to resist mouthing the words 'mommy's boy' to him.

*****

Jared pulled up outside the fancy Italian restaurant and handed his keys to the valet. He then rushed to the passenger side to help his wife climb of of the vehicle. "Madam..." he playfully spoke to Faye, a cheesy grin on his face as he took her hand. Before the family even reached the door, they were approached by a well-dressed man who began asking Jared about a business contract. Jared was quick to dismiss the man and remind him of his office hours for such discussions. The only person allowed to interrupt family time with business talk was Carter.

The family was shown to their table in a quiet area of the restaurant. Jared had wanted to make dinner special as he was aware business had been taking up much of his time recently and he was sure that was likely to continue or even increase in the near future. He wanted to make sure the three of them knew they weren't being pushed aside in all of this. "I know I've been busy over the last few days, so I'm curious to know what the three of you have been up to," he asked his wife and kids. He knew Grace had skipped college today, but he was trying not to push the issue at dinner, no matter how tempting it was.
