800 Years Later

Fishman Lord

ULTIMATE AI GOD
So, in the year 2034 a plague killed 99% of the world's population. It was quite a bummer. With the old world gone, technology deteriorated, and by 2200 the tech level was medieval. From there, humanity has very slowly but surely begun to recover. Now, in 2834, the Old World has been almost forgotten, and the new world is that of feudalism, monarchs, and swords. Neo-Aztecs conduct human sacrifice in a strange, twisted religion made from both Catholic and Aztec beliefs. In the American South, Christians crusade once more. In the west, the Mormon kings and their many wives spread their influence. In the Great Plains, returns to native beliefs and other nature-worshiping religions has taken place. The great city of Novark trades along the Atlantic. It was the end of the old world, and this is the beginning of a new one. The last known bastion of technology, Directive 40, lays hidden in Alaska, the last remnant of the US government that observes the new feudal world, but they do not interfere, only observe.

So, pretty self-explanatory. Medieval tech, feudal RP set in a post-apocalyptic North America. If you're interested or have any questions, please say so!

From what Fish has told me and as far as I can tell everything in the world/roleplay is medieval minus the Directive.

Primitive guns and cannons were medieval, although they came into prominence near the end of that time frame.

Yeah then that'd be a question for Fish though I'm certain that things like factories and electricity are well gone.

History: After the plague of 2034 and the subsequent mass exodus of citizens due the deteriorating infrastructure of Los Angeles that made a population of millions possible, the city fell as many did into the depths of lawlessness and barbarism. It was not until the later half of the 23rd Century that the sparse civilized settlements of the ruins banded together under the banner of the Kingdom of Adytum, a fortified walled compound within the former Marina Del Rey area that afforded great protection and luxury to it's thousands of subjects. Quickly consolidating it's position of power within the burned and blasted rubble, in the centuries to come the various gangs and tribes of the area would be eradicated by it's knights in the pursuit of a lasting peace for her people. These pacification campaigns would largely end by the 25th Century, with the Kingdom of Adytum's only remaining rivals being other city-states. Waging countless wars with her neighbors, Adytum would come to encompass all of former Santa Monica and parts of Los Angeles, eventually being renamed the Kingdom of Columbia in honor of it's unimaginably prosperous and glorious past-self. By the the 28th century it has become an economic powerhouse, established a small yet powerful navy, and become one of the most populated kingdoms of the West Coast.

Nation Name: The Republic of Canucia

Nation Flag/Symbol:
1200px-Franco-Ontarian_flag.svg.png

Location: Current day Toronto to Montreal, with farmland going north

Population: 500,000

Culture: Think Renaissance Italy

Religion: Catholic

Major towns/cities: Ontario (location of modern day Toronto), Ottawa (the only semi-surviving old world city), New France (Montreal's old location)

Government Type: Merchant Republic (with slight theocracy)

History: Formed 50 years ago by an alliance between the city states of Ontario, Ottawa, and New France when the leaders of those city states all had at least two sons and two daughters and they were inter married. There are three main families the Alaire of Ottawa, the Finex of New France, and the Savard of Ontario. They are the three richest family and those with the most history and influence. For the 50 years that Canucia has been around they have served only to strengthen their deals with the surrounding people, often amassing more land via marriage and other negotiations, they try to avoid war at all costs but are prepared to act if it does come to fruition. The Republic is ruled by the Majority leader who is elected by his party, the Majority Leader dictates which laws are put up for a vote and for electing new members of the council. The Majority Leader is kept up for very high standards and if he breaks those standards any man can put him to trail for treason or for sin. The second highest official is the Pope, who is run out of Ottawa, and elected by the cardinals.

honestly not too much to say here they've had a peaceful and prosperous run.

Location(on map, stay reasonable, we're talking maybe 40,000 square miles): Set up inside of the Delta plantation in Louisiana, a nearly 30,000 acre area of nothing but farmland. with only about 25,000 acres of it actually usable at the current time. Mainly set up around the north of Louisana and into Mississippi

Population(300,000-600,000): 500,000

Culture: Cajun/Germanic

Religion: Church of Baton- The church of Baton has risen from old Catholic beliefs of a single god and a pope like figure able to interpenetrate what god wills upon humanity and teaches the masses, this roll is filled by the King or Queen of Baton giving the ruler absolute authority in both religious and state matters. The church has been founded on a very fire and brimstone approach taking in and converting people through force into the religion as they see it as their duty to save their souls. If however they refuse the person can sometimes be put to death if they are not of much use to the Empire or the church.

Major towns/cities: Primarily set up in the plantation yet also in the nearby town of Jonesville (Trade Hub) Natchez Mississippi (Military fort) and Alexandria (Major Trade Hub)

Government Type(Most people should be monarchies, but there's room for merchant republics and theocracies): Theocratic Monarchy

History: During the great plague as the church calls it now the people of what is now the Empire of Baton where luckier than most, miles away from any major city (30 miles but in a plague that can save your ass), they were able to have somewhat of a buffer zone between them and the plague, they were however still affected. The workers on the plantation sealed everything off to try and keep themselves safe.It worked for the most part and newcomers were not allowed for a long time. These were early days around then there was only about 100,000 people who had come there seeking the food and shelter that the family Baton provided. They were only than simple farmers themselves who didn't own the land but simply worked on it as a foreman. The foreman's name would come to be known as Alexander von Baton. Cut off from near everything electronic and with only a few tractors and while they had some of the most advanced farming equipment available it would not withstand the test of time and use. It was a slow process, however eventually all notion of what was before was lost in only 100 years, the Baton family became heralded as saviors, as Kings and Queens. As the tractors died and only the very basic things remained the now Monarch known as Alister von Baton the 1st reopened the gates which had long been fortified against outside bands eager to raid their much fertile lands, after 200 years of isolation from the outside world they began to take people in once again. teaching them the long tradition that had formed around farming and the preservation of food and water.

Around 2330, The need to expand became more and more apparent as with the influx of new people around this time most hungry and desperate allowed for more land to be opened up previously unusable by the few hands they had to work it. Slowly under the guidance of Queen Adalicia von Baton the farmland was retaken from centuries of neglect and even the first expeditions into the southern town of Jonesville and the city of Alexandria where made yet nothing would truly come of this until 2662, or by the Imperial Calendar 001 B.A. Baton Ascension. for nearly that entire time the focus was at home many eager to create new places to live for their subjects or land to farm. Up until this time they had survived off a small militia force most all carrying very crude weapons mostly wooden clubs reclaimed from trees their numbers usually enough to deter most people who would seek to harass them.

In 2662 with the rediscovery of Alexandria and Jonesville, Juliana von Baton the 6th wanted to see what was there. He was a young girl of only 16 her mother and father having died the previous year many thought that she would be the last in the long line of the Baton family. However fate would smile upon her as in Alexandria this would also be the day that the Church of Baton would be founded and the Imperial Calendar would be created, as it is here they found what would have once been known as the St.Juliana Catholic church, here they found a rather odd group of cultists brandishing reclaimed metal "Sword" you could call them very crudely, who were here in search of a saint that claimed to be here. It was to their surprise when Juliana told them her name and what is was she was a great part of. The rest to say is history with the cultists assuming she was the one that they had come in search of, it was with their help that the Church of Baton would be founded at Natchez renamed Moresdale after a great Sir.Mores in 2802. It was also around 2802 that the Church began to take on very aggressive methods of conversion, with public executions common for true blasphemers and strict conversion of all outsiders who wished to stay in their lands.

After all these years finally in 2834 everything has settled and under the reign of Alister von Baton the 7th of his name with 500,000 men at his command with only around 5000 actual trained knights under the order of saint Juliana with the rest simply farmers eagerly toiling away in the fields for their church and Emperor Alister wishes to prove himself as his ancestors did in this world, and build his own legacy.

Character/Ruler Sheet

Name: Alister von Baton the 7th

Dynasty: Baton Dynasty

Age: 23

Gender: Male

Culture: Cajun/Germanic

Religion: Church of Baton

Appearance(image or description): He stands at 6'3 with Blonde hair and blue eyes, he is a very well built individual if a bit on the stocky side. A single scar on his right cheek with a light beard having grown in, he usually wears a well padded leather outfit with a more regal robe drapped over it. A charming smile and tender features he is a man of perfection incarnate.

Personality: He is a somewhat kind and caring individual, yet that does not save him from having a cruel and sadistic side. Having grown up under the teachings of the church he feels it is his right to save those around him and bring them under his guidance and that of gods. He therefore feels justified in anything that he could possibly do, even murder should it come to it.

History: As a Young boy he was the son of the now late Balthazar von Baton the 3rd and grew up in a church school as most boys in the empire do nowadays. Learning of the role that he would one day play he grew up around many of the common people his father wanting him to see how the other half live so to speak. He wanted him to be aware of the peasantry and how they were people same as him, however they would always need the guiding hand of the Emperor or Empress.

As he got older he would be brought in on many interrogations done by the church in order to try and root out any potential heretics. These days helped shape many of what is now Alister's views on the world, if people do not listen and refuse to listen. They should be made to listen, how else would they get into heaven properly? Torture would become common place soon enough and while it cannot be said he enjoyed it he saw it as a very necessary evil.

He would eventually settle into his life at the age of 14 learning how to fight under the guidance of the knights of St.Juliana where he was taught how to defend himself and how to kill an opponent. Though he has of yet never had to most who fight him afraid to draw the ire of the church or worse yet his father, Alister has long known his and remains eager for a true challenge. This has come to him in the form of his wife who he married at the age of 20. An arranged marriage between him and lady Gertrude now von Baton as a favor to one of the knightly order of St.Julianas. A strong and stubborn woman she acts as much a bodyguard to her husband as any of the normal knights do. A tall Imposing woman, very well built and a match for any of the order's finest. The two have found an odd love together in the arrangement.

Spouse/s: Lady Gertrude von Baton

Children: None but lady Gertrude is Pregnant at the moment.

The Rust Belt

Location(on map, stay reasonable, we're talking maybe 40,000 square miles): blank-north-america-map.png

Population(300,000-600,000): 333,333

Culture: Rosstoman, a culture about the preservation of the technology of the past. There are a few major celebrations, foremost is the night of mourning, an all night party complete with bonfires and drinking until sunrise to mourn the day the old world ended. Another major celebration is the 'Rusting of Youth' ceremony where teenagers on the cusp of adulthood that want to join the Brotherhood of Iron are sent off to find old world tech and return with offerings for the Grand Fabricator, some of whom are then given chosen to join.

Religion: Rust Cultist. A religion about researching old world tech and attempting to repair it as best as possible. It is lead by the Grand Fabricator

Major towns/cities: Detroit

Government Type: Promogeniture Theocracy.

History: After the fall of everything the culture of glorifying rusted buildings and objects as art in the region took hold and began to be skewed. After a couple generations the culture began to influence the descendents of James J Couzens and, more specifically, Mary Elizabeth II Couzens. She took an old revolver her family had kept and, being very careful as to how often she fired it, showed people its power and awe. She told them of the past and the power that man once held. That mankind could kill entire households with the twitch of a finger but also cure cancer with poisoned light. She showed them that marvel that was the past. The impossibilities that lay there. Predictably, they moped it up. Before long she had a strong following and began to take over the city of Detroit. Those who bend their knee and accepted her as their leader were spared and those who tried to stand against her found one of her limited number of bullets through their skull. In time, generation on generation, the majority of the old world 'rust belt' and much of the surrounding regions either fell in line or fell in the dust against The Rust Belt. In time more techniques and weapons of the old world have been found to help them grow in strength.

Other:

Military: Their Military is very equipped, although the good equipment is not very well executed.
Its small and I will quantify it when I have time soon. They have five guys with guns for reasons I will explain but has been okayed by Fish. Not gud guns though, don't worry.

"Preserving our Past to Protect our Future."

Location:

Wrangell-St Elias National Park, Alaska

Population:
80,000
(250,000 frozen embryos)

Leaders:
Director. Elizabeth Tanwell
Admiral. Michael Kainsley

Culture:
Due to the cryogenic nature of the few hundred thousand citizens of Directive 40, the culture of the organization has remained unchanged from the ways of the old world for 800 years. Although due to the strict requirements that were needed to be met by recruits all those centuries ago, the people of Directive 40 are a hardy bunch and stronger than any of their now long dead peers in both the mental and physical fields. The culture of Directive 40 again remains just as the old world's American culture was, entertainment, luxury and a patriotic attitude towards their duty still form the foundations of their beliefs and work ethic.

Religion:
Athiesm, Protestantism

Capital:
Arcadia Mountain Complex

The Arcadia Mountain Complex or AMC as it's known for short is a vast, underground facility built beneath Mt St. Elias. Constructed between the years of 2018 and 2030 it was at the time one of the most ambitious construction projects of the federal government, due to rising global tensions and growing fears of many civilization-ending scenarios it was desired to be built within such a short time frame by the then-current President. Though despite the hastiness that it was built with, the AMC remains a state-of-the-art facility with all the necessities and luxuries that an American citizen of the Old World would require or want. Split up into various smaller administrative divisions in-order to allow for easier local governing and organization the AMC is a very well-ordered piece of architecture, connected by a series of high-speed elevators and tram systems it is essentially a medium-sized city within a mountain. Around ten miles from the main facility however there is also another large underground complex, though this one is not intended to host inhabitants but rather materials and supplies that would be needed for said inhabitants upon their waking up in the future. This massive storage facility is known as the Einsenhower Vault, named after the President who signed Directive 40.

Government Type:
Technocratic Oligarchy

History:
Named after the executive order for the Continuity of Operations Plan of the United States federal government, Directive 40 is a collection of 80,000 of America's best and brightest both in civilian and military fields. Chosen for not only their skills but their mindset and loyalty, the Directive was formed nearly two decades prior to the outbreak, in 2018 under the Trump Administration as tensions in the Korean Peninsula continued to intensify and a new revision of the nation's continuity programs by the Department of Homeland Security had deemed them ineffective for the modern world. As such a new plan was put into place, an underground community of 80,000 strong that was to be built underneath the Wrangell-St Elias National Park in the state of Alaska, far from any major population centers and still within US territory. It was decided that if the world was to end that the United States would continue to function as a nationstate, and so the recruiting process begun. Taking everyone from engineers to chemists to biologists, from farmers to carpenters to electricians and from pilots to Rangers to SEALs. Every kind of person in every kind of important occupation was considered and recruited.

Of course when the outbreak begun and society began to collapse, not everything had worked out just the way the government had planned but that was to be expected. A few small numbers of intended recruits had fallen victim to the disease before making their way to the bunkers though they were quickly replaced by others who had been unknowingly put into reserve folders by the respective government organization that they worked for. And so as the world around them collapsed, Directive 40 was put into effect and a total of 80,000 American souls were put into cryostasis underneath Alaskan soil, where they would either be woken up the remains of the US government in a year or a decade if the outbreak had been contained. Or they would remain sleeping for the next eight hundred years as was protocol. Obviously the latter had become reality. Now, eight centuries later the ancient souls have finally begun to wake up from their long rest and have quickly been put to work. With their first set of orders to make sure the facilities they will be living in are in perfect condition and their second set of orders to find out just what remains of the world they left behind so many years ago.

Other:
Directive 40 itself is solely a government organization technically, although it does have a majority of the population as civilian workers. They all work under the Directive's orders, as such there are no privately owned businesses as of now. Though the Directive's leadership is working towards establishing free and fair elections, a Congress, Senate and Office of the President along with reorganizing and establishing private property ownership. However due to the vast majority of the Directive's population having just woken up and operations having just begun, as such leadership made the wise decision of establishing what the situation for the rest of the United States and Canada was prior to reorganizing the US government and economy.

Rules of Engagement:

Under no circumstances are Directive personnel to make contact with any individual or group of individuals in the outside world unless authorized otherwise.

History:
Born in London, England to an elite family. Elizabeth was destined from birth to achieve great things, attending Oxford University and getting her PhD's in both Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering relatively young in life. She went into work almost immediately after her higher education ended, spending a few years in the Ministry of Defence before she moved to the United States with her husband, Edward and their newborn daughter, Louis in the early 1990s and took up a job in DARPA rather quickly due to her recommendation from her former employers in the MoD and her already stunning credentials. Although her husband did die from a heart attack not many years after their move to the US, that did little to slow her work ethic. And from there on out she progressed through the ranks until she became the newest Director of the Agency just prior to the Plague's beginning.

Religion:

History:

Born in Seattle, Washington, USA to a working class family with a strong industrial and military tradition. Michael hadn't had an easy life like many of his future peers in the Naval Academy had, he grew up working tough, manual jobs after doing fairly decent in his elementary, middle and high school years and finding his only escape in life through the military. Enlisting in the Navy as an officer and passing through his class with flying colors. At age 25 he met his now-wife, Laura at a nightclub in Honolulu whilst on shore leave. Not long after he was put in command of his first ship, the USS Hopper, an Arleigh-burke class destroyer. A few years after that it was the USS Carl Vinson and by the time out of the Plague's arrival, he was a four star Admiral. Making him one of the perfect candidates for a military leadership role in Directive 40, most notably over the SEAL element.

Just gunna go out and say this, there would be no way that anything they had would even still work after 800 years.
Very enlightening information. Although there actually are ways of storing this kind of equipment for EXTREMELY long periods of time, the US military already does it in the form of their aircraft storage yards and with spraylat coverings and thoroughly cleaning out the interior systems of any of the aircraft they store there along with storing them at the right temperature, the spraylat helps with this. I'm sure by the 2030s there'd be more advanced ways of preserving equipment. This is out in the open desert as well, whethers most if not all of this equipment is hidden in a facility.

except things made now a days especially machinery aren't build to last, in fact they are built the exact opposite way, not to mention you'd have no way of keeping power supplied to where you were for 50 years let alone 800, so best case everything you'd have would either be rusted or corroded which means that all machinery would be useless, you would have no functioning guns, nor bullets, then even if you had aircraft or trucks that worked you'd have no way of getting and purifying the fuel for them.

I must've not read the part where the DoD requested equipment that broke after ten years. My bad. I haven't entirely thought it through admittedly though there would certainly be ways of keeping a reliable flow of power, renewable power. Alaska especially would be a perfect place for this, large wind turbine farms and geothermal energy from the many volcanos and hot springs in the surrounding area. Also spraylat prevents rust and corrosion, keeping it stored at the right temperature also prevents this (which spraylat helps do) As for guns, we still have ammunition and weapons from hundreds of years ago today. And I'm in Alaska again, being able to get access to fuel is not that difficult, although the oil fields would be far from useable that's why the ACE was brought along.
