CATRA

catra wasnt one to typically show up to work on time, but seeing as her foster mother recently made her a manager (and with how little any supervisors were there, this made catra basically the boss) of their little coffee shop, she decided that taking her responsibilities seriously would help in terms of getting the higher ups to shut up with their complaints. so when she opened up the coffee shop and got everything up and running before the rest of the staff showed up, she did so with minimal complaints. this was her chance to show she deserved her college tuition paid for; which she was currently paying for by working two jobs.

the aroma of coffee and various breakfast delights filled the nostrils of the darker skinned brunette as she made her way to each individual table, wiping them down and ignoring the annoyingly chirpy music playing overhead on the crappy speakers. catra thought it was too damn early to be listening to upbeat pop music, but somebody on this side of the earth was probably thinking the exact opposite at…

catra turned her head to glance at the clock..

….545 am. speaking of which, where was all of her staff? only two people had clocked in so far. they opened at six! where the hell was everybody?

the annoyance must have been clear on her face because her coworkers made haste in clearing to the other side of the shop to avoid getting on catra’s bad side. she didnt mind. catra was seen as the ‘hot but mean bitch’ that worked at the shop, but everyone knew she was far worse to deal with in the morning. there was a lot of things and people catra hated, and waking up early was pretty high on that extensive list.

catra paid no mind to those coworkers and continued to clean up the lobby. she knew that the drive thru would be busiest, but the inside was disgusting and it would get busy in about three hours. besides, it was a great excuse to keep from having to talk to anybody outside of work related stuff. catra didnt like small talk either.

Adora usually wasn't the type to sleep in or be late, but for some reason, today had to be the day that her alarm didn't wake her. Luckily, she had grown to used to waking up a certain time that she didn't wake up super late, but it was still later than she would've liked. She scrambled to get dressed and freshen herself up before heading out the door.

Adora was quite thankful that the coffee shop that she worked at was close enough that she didn't have to drive. She always preferred walking to driving. It helped her wake up and warmed up her legs for the day ahead that she spent most of the standing up.

The blonde was usually one of the first ones to arrive for her shift, but there's always a time for firsts. She was lucky to get there 10 minutes before they officially opened. She hurried to clock in and get everything set up for the day ahead. She was a little concerned to see that not many other staff members were there, but she just had to hope that more would show up before they opened. If not, she was sure that the crew that was here would be able to manage. Sure, they may have to rush and work faster, but she trusted that that wouldn't be too much of an issue.

A heavy breath escaped her lips as she put on her apron and went to her station at the cash register. She usually shifted between cashier and barista and it seemed today was a cashier day. She sometimes dreaded this position, having to come face to face with strangers and (sometimes) weird people. She would even occasionally get flirted with, but she just had to push through and brush them off.

as catra was pondering the worth of her time spent cleaning up sunchips with a disgusting wash cloth, she heard the doorbell jingle and felt the rush of wind as somebody breezed by her. catra glanced up and watched momentarily as adora clocked in. this was interesting to catra, as the perfect blonde was scarcely late; however catra wasnt awake enough to quite hammer down with all the sass, so she let it go for now.

she did brush past the blue eyed beauty to plop the washcloth in the sanitizer bin, and had opened her mouth to finally get rolling on her rude remarks when something cut her off.

she turned her head to look at the short, blonde male who had squeaked behind the counter.

catra’s golden eyes pierced into the eyes of this stranger. “what do you want?” she asked boredly, moving to stand next to adora at the register instead of behind.

i-im kyle, im here for my training.” catra stared blankly at kyle for a long moment before she averted her gaze to adora instead.

adora, will you,” her hand motion to kyle, “deal with that? he can shadow you or you can send him to the back when it gets busy.

Adora was kinda surprised when she wasn't met with any remarks or anything by Catra. She was used to being met with at least one sassy remark in the morning and more throughout the rest of the day. She was busying cleaning of the register when the brunette came up to stand beside her. She looked up at her a moment before turning her gaze to the smaller blonde standing in front of them both.

Her gaze turned back to Catra when Kyle stated what he was here for. She nodding in understanding at her orders. She turned to look back at Kyle again and offered him a warm and welcoming smile. "What exactly are you training for?"

um, everything, i gue-“ kyle had started but was shortly cut off by catra.

its his first day adora, what do you think?” catra huffed in minor annoyance. she looked back at kyle.

im catra. my family owns this shop.” well, family was a touchy subject for the brunette. she wouldnt really call her foster mother family, but she was not about to explain this to some acne ridden kid. without missing a beat, she continued, “im the general manager. so if youre going to be stupid, dont be stupid around me.”

she turned and motioned to the back of the shop. “youll eventually learn everything but today might be busy so just shadow adora.

catra’s eyes then went to adora. “and dont get too busy flirting with the customers to train.”

Adora felt herself scoff at Catra's remark and turned her head away from the both of them, her arms crossing over of her chest. She had to figure out some way to brighten her mood at least a little bit. She was growing tired of the constant sassy remarks, especially when they were directed to her.

When Adora heard her name being spoke, she turned back to look at Kyle. She didn't really enjoy being watched, but she knew that he needed to see what went on around the place so that he could work here. She let out a sigh and turned her gaze to Catra.

Her mouth hung open a little as she stared at the smaller brunette, her eyebrows furrowed. She started to say something back, but she knew better than that. She just barely managed to hold back a 'whatever', but she let it be as she turned back to Kyle. "I usually switch between the barista and register, but I'll mainly be up front for the majority of the day. Just uh... Try not to get in the way, okay? I mean that in a nicest way, but if it gets too busy, just go into the back and you can come back in when it dies down."
