Welcome to the Purge!
Not really, more like the knockoff purge.

So, a little background. The Purge (for the sake of
our rp) has been going on for a long, long time.
It's all some characters know.

It usually takes place in July, the middle of summer.
Same time every year.
However, our RP takes place in January.

Surprise.

Setting:
Mid-January
Noon, the siren has just sounded

Can you survive the next 24 hours?

"I'll survive. Somehow I always do.”

When the siren sounded throughout Lucy's tiny one bedroom apartment, she hadn't known what to do.

Of course, she knew what it meant. They all did-- every person in this blasted, damned nation. Thanks to 'overpopulation', the government had started the purge some time ago, years before Lucy was even born. She tried to get her parents to talk about a purge free time, but not even they could answer her request. It always saddened her.

But that wasn't the point. The point is-- for as long as she could remember, the purge happened in July. It was January, for god's sake. Freezing cold outside, and no one was prepared. The thought sickened her-- this wasn't an accident. Nothing the government did was an accident, and there's no way someone just hit the button to sound the alarm for fun.

Placing a hand on her stomach, she glanced down, her lips twisting into a frown. She and baby peanut weren't prepared at all, and that made her wonder... was anyone? No movement came from her belly, but that didn't surprise her. It was too soon. Dropping her hand, she pushed herself off the couch and headed into her room, where she kept an emergency bag.

Slinging it over her shoulder, she moved towards her window, peering down. So far, her street was quiet. But could she make it to her safe place? It was a safe haven, a place in the community that was kept as secret as possible. This one in particular was for pregnant women, but it was halfway across town.

She had no choice.

She had to go.

Turning, she squared her shoulders and grabbed her jacket, sliding it on around the duffel bag straps as she headed out into the cold.

Song Resin

Location: Apartment Building| Interacting With: NPC Lydia West; OPEN | Mentions: OPEN

It was surprisingly crowded in the mall. Song kept mostly to himself, interacting only when necessary. The only reason he was here was due to a need for a new pair of shoes. Something sturdy to wear for the upcoming Purge in July. A new pair of black combat boots, maybe? They had caught his attention in the storefront window a few shops back. Sure, they were appealing to the eyes, but what were the chances that they were effective? He'd have to try them on before buying, and that just meant more talking to people he'd much rather avoid. He wanted as little do with others as possible, only because he often ending up making a fool of himself every time he opened his mouth. It wasn't really his fault, he knew, but that didn't stop it from ruining all chances he had at conversations.

What Song had not expected was for a siren to sound. Not just any alarm, of course, but the one that signaled the start of the Purge. Everyone in the mall froze, their eyes darting from person to person. Was it a mistake? A freak accident? Did the mall have an alarm system eerily similar to the Purge sirens? Realization kicked in seven seconds afterward. Song counted. He was already moving by the time the woman behind him ran into a store, smashing the glass of the jewelry display case open.

Think, think, think. How long would it take for him to get to his apartment? Six minutes, twenty-four seconds, provided he sprinted. He did. Song increased his pace, chaos ensuing behind him. One man was beating up another in the Starbuck's line. Another had just stolen an old lady's purse. Some teenage girl was beating the crap out of someone Song could only assume to be her boyfriend. He wished he could help these people, to return some semblance of order, but he felt that, in nothing but his old sweatshirt and torn jeans, he wasn't in any position to be calling shots. Who would listen to him, a nameless nobody?

It was a funny thought. He needed his outfit. His costume. That was what made him different. What was he without it? Helpless, just like all the other people around him. The unbothered part of his mind that was still unfazed about the sirens going off wondered why he didn't just wear it underneath his regular clothes. Pull a Superman. He reasoned that it was due to the fact that the Purge was only supposed to happen on a set date and time. It wasn't his fault that shit hit the fan so unexpectedly. He couldn't be blamed for having to run back to his apartment now.

Sighing, Song burst out through the emergency exit. Someone was already carjacking a vehicle, driving off with both it and an alcohol bottle in one hand. He didn't come all this way just to stop to admire the scene, though, and forced himself to keep going. The cold air nipped at his face as he rushed through to the sidewalk. Within minutes, his apartment building came into view. He made it to the doors before a car crashed right into the wall next to him. Instinctually, he jumped back, landing on the ground.

A ten-year-old got out from the driver's seat, bleeding from multiple wounds. She looked up at him, her eyes wide. "Daddy kill Mummy. He wanted kill me too. I ran. I'm sorry; I didn't know to drive good," she said, stumbling over to him. "Help me? Please?"

Song stared blankly at her for a moment before he made up his mind. "No," he said reluctantly, standing back up and shuffling to the door. He entered, climbing up the stairs. The pitter-patter of tiny feet echoed from behind him. Turning, Song's eyes landed on the little girl. "I told you no..."

"Mummy said to not take no for answer," the girl recited, folding her arms, one of which was still oozing blood. Song rolled his eyes, continuing to climb up the steps until he reached the third floor: his floor. The girl continued to follow, whimpering a little with every movement she made. Her injuries were continuing to bug her, obviously, and pity was beginning to swell in his chest.

Unlocking the door to his small apartment, Song held the door open for her. She limped in, dragging her right leg behind her like it was a rag doll. "Don't touch anything," Song huffed, "and I'll help patch you up. But that's all I'm doing for you, got it?" The girl nodded, her eyes alit with gratitude. With a thin finger, he pointed to the bathroom. "The first-aid kit is in there. I'm going to get dressed. Get it out for me, but don't do anything more than that, alright?" Once more, she bobbed her head up and down enthusiastically.

Song stepped into his bedroom and changed, getting into gear. Other than the car crash, it appeared as though this street had yet to be overrun by insanity yet. What luck. He stepped out of his room only to find the girl sitting on the floor, pouring disinfectant all over the place.

"Ah no no no no! Stop that!" Song growled, snatching the bottle out of her hands. She started to cry. "W-Wait, please... don't cry..." Her sobs were loud, loud enough to draw attention to this room, which was the last thing he wanted. "Here, just let me help."

He sat down beside her and tended to her injuries, wrapping up the scratches with gauze and, when applicable, normal band-aids. Luckily for him, none of her wounds required stitches, which made things much easier on his end. She was going to be pretty bruised up, but she'd live. The thankful smile she gave him once he was finished was more than enough payment.

"Okay, now get lost." He stood up, opened the door, and patted her head. "And good luck to ya."

The little girl rose to her feet and puffed out her cheeks. "My name's Lydia. I'm staying with you, Mister." She held out her hand. "It's good meet you." Song stared at her. His heart was winning over his mind, as per usual. Hadn't he resorted to blocking emotions like these off?

"Alright. Have it your way. But I'm not responsible for you dying." He took her hand and gave it a firm shake. "It's nice to meet you too, Lydia. I'm Song." Her toothy grin made the risk well worth it. He'd just have to go out with her by his side. She wouldn't be safe here all alone. She wouldn't be safe out there, either. He had to make a choice, and the decision was already made. "Let's go."

The sirens ring when Evelyn was half way through the process of making a margarita for one of the few costumers in the pub. The blaring noise was such a shock that the glass slipped from her fingers, shattering upon contact against the ground. The alcoholic beverage pooled inches from her feet. Isabelle, Rebecca. Were the first things that came to her mind. At this time, the twins were still in that High School a few blocks away, that wretched place packed with immature teens. Eviee needed to get to them quick, it was the purge and for all she knew, the twins were defenceless on their own. Panic bubbled in her gut. If anything happened to them, she would not forgive herself. After Emma left, Evelyn sworn to take care of them both and the sudden start of the Purge was not making it easy for her to keep to that promise.

It was barely the mid of January, the purge was not supposed to start until in a few months time. This could not be an accidents. The government was at it once again. Screw them. The customers in the pub, instead of creating havoc, left the building in a haste. Thankful Eviee was that it was still noon and the bar was not as crowded as it was in the evening. Eviee took of her bartender apron, shrugged on her coat and grabbed her bag. Before making her way out, she slipped in a few bottles of alcohol into her bag, a decent bottle of wine worth a few hundred or more and a tequila. She might require some heavy drinking later. She was stealing from her own workplace, but who cared, it was the purge afterall.

Eviee stepped from the doors of the pub and shuddered at the chilly winter’s wind. Her rose tattooed left hand slipped into her bag and rummaged for her phone. Her fingers instead contacting with something heavier, a gun. She had almost forgotten it was there. Eviee had taken it from a drunken man passed out at the bar a month or two ago. Before throwing those unconscious out of the pub, she’d always ensure to rob them of any cash, Jewelry and weapons. It was her way of surviving. The weapon would prove to be handy today.

Three rings it had taken before Rebecca picked up her phone.
Rebecca. Where are you? Where’s Isabelle?” Eviee asked her tone rising in trepidation.
She’s with me. We left school a few minutes ago One of our classmates stabbed the teacher... Eviee, I’m scared.” Rebecca whined, her voice cracking.
I’m coming to you. Stay out of trouble please. I’ll be there in a few-“ Eviee was cut short at a piercing scream from the other end of the line and then the sound of the device hitting the ground.
Rebecca? Rebecca? Isabelle?” Evelyn called anxiously through the phone, desperate for an answer. But to no avail. All she heard was the sounds of destruction in the other end. Eviee started in a run, sprinting towards the direction of the highschool blocks away. The twins were all she had and Evelyn was determined to find them.

The chaos around her had not bothered Evelyn as she made her way through the streets. There were people beating others into a pulp and a few robbing shops. Evelyn didn’t care. It took barely 5 minutes for her to reach the street. How she was going to find the twins, she did not know. Eviee pulled out her phone and dialled once again. As if by luck, she heard the a familiar song play a distance away. Rebecca’s ring tone. Eviee hastened towards the source of the sound, turning a corner only to find a phone with a sparkling pink phonecase buzzing on the ground. The should be near.

Then the most beautiful sound met her ears. Crying. It wasn’t just anyone’s crying, Isabelle’s. They were alive and very nearby. Eviee, pulled the gun from her bag before heading towards the crying, they must be in trouble. It was down a narrow alley when Eviee’s heart almost stopped. There a few feet away laid Isabelle, blood trailed down her thigh and pooling around her. Kneeling beside her was Rebecca, crying. What Eviee was more concerned about was the man standing over them. Her hands tighten over the gun as she lifted it, directing in at the man. Her index finger curled around the trigger.

Step away from them now.” She said, announcing her presence. Her hands trembled ever so slightly as they held the weapon. She had never shot a gun, ever. The last thing she wanted to do was to pull the trigger. Even if she did, her accuracy was poor and might even hit one of the twins.

The darkness enshrouded a woman dressed in all black, hiding even her fiery hair and emerald green eyes from the view of the person she was tracking. The balding man was in his 50's at least, and walked with an air of arrogance and condescension. He dressed pristinely in what appeared to be an expensive suit, Italian leather shoes, and a Rolex. He was to interested in talking on his cell phone to notice the young woman following him, keeping to the shadows like a predator stalking her prey. His name was Patrick Manchester, entrepreneur and businessman. And he was the next name on Mackenzie O'Leary's list. She had been following him undetected for a few days, trying to learn his patterns and routines so that when the day of the Purge came in July, Mac would be fully ready to make sure he never walk the Earth again.

Truth be told, Mackenzie had no idea if Patrick Manchester was involved in the brutal murder of her family. When that day came and the group of killers ascended on their home, Mac had little time to look at and remember faces. She was too busy just trying to survive. But frankly, she didn't really care if had been involved or not. He was a terrible person either way. Mac had researched his business, a pharmaceuticals company that had made some patented life-saving medications and marked the price up on them so high that people either couldn't afford them, or had to give up important things like their cars and homes just to afford the pills. He was making money off of the suffering of innocent people, which made him completely guilty in Mac's mind.

Pulling herself from those thoughts, Mackenzie paused as Patrick entered a cafe. Keeping him in sight at all times through the window, make leaned against the brick wall outside and pulled a pack of cigarettes from her cross-body bag. The redhead placed a death stick between her lips, carefully lighting it before putting the pack and the lighter away. She inhaled deeply, pulling as much toxic yet calming smoke into her lungs as she could. Holding her breath for just a moment, Mac tilted her head back and exhaled, watching the smoking rise up into the air above her. Even though it was a bit chilly outside, her leather jack kept her warm enough. By the time Mackenzie had finished her cigarette, Patrick exited the cafe with a to-go coffee cup in hand.

Mac stiffened when he turned to look at her, seeming to recognize her by the look of realization on his face. If he knew she was following him, that could ruin her whole plan. She could either enter the cafe and pretend to not know him, or attempt to talk to him. Either way, she ran the risk of being found out. But as the classic saying goes, Mackenzie was saved by the bell. A loud siren filled the area and, for a moment, the nearby people could only look around at each other in shock. Surely that wasn't the Purge siren, as it was only January and the Purge wasn't until July. But Mackenzie didn't even bat an eye. With a quickness and fluidity that was hard to follow, Mac had pulled her handgun, a 9mm, from its holster in the small of her back. She aimed and fired in a matter of seconds, too fast for Patrick to even attempt to flee. The balding man fell to the ground with a ragged hole placed almost directly in the center of his forehead. A mixed of spilled coffee and blood began to pool around his body, but Mackenzie was already gone.

She disappeared into the shadows once again, pulling the hood of her black leather jacket up over her head. She needed to get back to her apartment, to look at her plans and take advantage of this impromptu Purge in whatever way she could. Sure, she kept her weapons on her at all times, and had been mostly prepared for Patrick's murder. But now that the Purge sirens went off and people were going into hiding, that made her goals that much harder to achieve. Mackenzie pulled her phone from her pocket, checking the time in order to plan her next moves. But as she was looking down, she ran directly into someone. Mac bounced back, the word "Sorry" immediately falling from her lips before she remembered it was still the Purge. She held her gun at her side and look at the woman curiously. "You seem to be in a panic. Something wrong?" Mackenzie couldn't help but ask.

"Radcliffe. You're out." A gruff voice mumbled in irritation from outside the cell, keys jingling against his belt.

With a firm, tightened grip, the silver-haired male exasperatedly took a breath, letting out a quiet grunt as he pushed his weight up once more, head over the bar, gritting his teeth. Sweat beading down his back that revealed painted strokes, Lars released his hold on the bar, planting his feet forcibly on the ground as he walked over towards the bed, taking a towel to wipe his face.

As the officer opened the first gate with his keys before punching in the code for the next gate, the older man trudged inside the cell, boot stomping with each step he took as he impatiently tapped his foot against the ground, waiting for Lars to follow him. “Time’s ticking Radcliffe. If you take any longer to get the hell out, they could recant this early release.”

Dropping the towel from his face, Lars gazed towards the pot-belly and dishevelled moustached officer with curiosity. Raising a brow, Lars could only shake his head. "You would like that, wouldn't you?"

Without another word, Lars made his way out of his cell, pushing pash Myers, knocking his arm abruptly in the process without an apology. Lars didn't bother zipping his orange jumper, the fabric made his skin itch and since he was already leaving the vicinity, he had no need or reason to abide by the rules of keeping uniform

Buzz

Walking out of the compound, the scowl never left his face as he glanced around at clear emptiness. Lars felt the looming presence behind him: clear barbed wires and bricks that caged him for four years. Hands in his pocket, Lars rummaged for a lighter, grasping it in his hand before pulling it out, flicking it on as he lit his cigarette. Placing the tip of his cigarette in his mouth, the male inhaled before slowly exhaling small clouds of air as all the nerves in his muscles began to relax. His mind calmed down as he continued the process a few more times before dropping the cigarette and letting out the smoke before walking away.

It wasn’t until a few minutes later did the all-too-familiar sound of a siren alarm echo. Lars paused in his steps for a moment as his hands curled into a fist, body trembling from both anger and excitement. The siren was a godsend even if he didn't believe in a higher power. He had years to plan his revenge. No cops. No law. No more waiting.

Oh, he would enjoy torturing those bastards.

Karma is a bitch.

As he made his way around the city, Lars observed the frantic screams and chaos of the town before him. He revelled in the destruction and couldn’t help but feel the corner of his lips curving into a small smirk. Striding through the many fist-fights and angry-filled citizens, Lars made sure to stay out of the way, not wanting to get into the crossfire of other people’s fight, not having a moment to waste.

Once Lars turned the corner of an alleyway, using it as a shortcut, Lars couldn’t help but furrowed his brows at the scene before him: two girls and a tall, dark male entrapping them. One was bleeding and the other attempting to fight back. Although he made eye contact with one of the girls as she pleaded with him to help, Lars ignored their calls and passed by them. It was none of his business.

However, it wasn’t until the male entrapping them placed a hand on his shoulder, attempting to land a punch on him did Lars grit his teeth before brawling with the stupid man. Whether the man just wanted a fight or didn’t want any evidence of his wrongdoings, the man engaged him. Dodging his blows, Lars side-stepped before the man took out his knife once more, aiming to stab him in his chest. But, seeing the man’s slow movement, Lars quickly tripped the bumbling man and managed to hit his palm, forcing the man to release his knife as he quickly took it as his own, quickly jabbing the knife into his neck, leaving the lifeless body on the ground.

Hearing the cries of the girl who was near the body of the other ones, Lars took note of the pooling blood at one of their thighs. “To stop the bleeding, get any fabric you have, clean ones, and press against it against the wound and keep still.” He coldly stated.

“Step away from them now.”

Lars looked up from the girls, hearing the voice from across the alley. Another woman. Seeing the gun aimed at him, the male could only grin, amused as he raised his hand.

“Shoot.” He tempted, moving away from the girls, making his way forward towards the woman.

He didn’t have time to lose but, Lars was curious: how would it be like to die? Would he have regrets? Perhaps. But, as he walked closer, curious, if the woman would pull the trigger or not, the girl behind him shouted, “No!” Before frantically explaining the situation of how he “saved” them.

Sighing, Lars could only turn back towards the girl, seeing the blood. “No, not saved.” He corrected the girl. “It was the wrong place, wrong time. And speaking of time.” Lars paused for a moment.

“You’re wasting time. Get a move on.”

Whether it was out of concern or annoyance, Lars whispered in his head, my time, was ready to leave the three girls in the alley with the lifeless body in the middle of the way.

Lily was just getting in from her Addiction counseling when the siren blaring broke the rather silent skies. She hurried into the small one bedroom house and locked the door knob dead bolt and chain locks behind her. She tossed her leather back pack down onto the sofa and let out a soft sigh. "This bullshit seemingly returns almost as fast as it plays out." she shook her head and sighed heavily. Making rounds through her house gathering up supplies. A small self charging LED flashlight, Her Butterfly knife which went into her Leather jacket pocket once she found her jacket in the first place. Next she grabbed her 2 fully charged portable Android chargers Cell phone and lap top, Shoving them into her backpack along with a few minor accessories for the laptop. Charger, USB mouse, and three flash drives which contained various programs she had collected over the course of several years. She made her way to the next room grabbing a couple packs of smokes her zippo lighter and small travel canister of Zippo fluid, Tossing it neatly into her back pack before moving to the rest of the house, Grabbing a few odds and ends as she done so, Multi-tool, Swiss army knife, Both things that could be more than beneficial to her later on.

Happy with the few things she grabbed she tosses the backpack onto her back heads back out to the front of her house locking the door behind her not that it mattered she has already had to replace the lock at least 6 times previously. Pulling the tarp off of her small motorcycle, it was a project bike she and her dad worked on when she was younger and she kept it mainly for sentimental value but it did serve it's purpose in other ways. Starting the bike and speeding off, Keeping an observant eye on her surroundings as she zipped down the streets as fast as traffic would allow. She was en-route to the old High School. It would serve as a decent place to hold up in after all right? She would have went to her bestfriend's house though her and her parents moved only a few months back so void of the one friend the Goth had She would have to tough things out this type on her own.. Survival of the fittest, Dog eat Dog, Self preservation, What ever people chose to call it it was all the same in the end.

Once She arrived to the school she would make several passes around the school's perimeter on the bike to scope out the situation and get a feel for any obstacles she may need to over come to gain entry.

"I'll survive. Somehow I always do.”

Having a car didn't matter during the purge. When people could legally shoot out your tires, throw makeshift Molotov cocktails through your windows while you're driving, or just plain beat out your windows or headlights with a golf club, being surrounded by tons of metal didn't matter worth a damn. Lucy had seen it too many times in her short lifetime; abandoned cars with the glass knocked out of the windows, the lights dark, blood on the seats and the dash. It made her shudder to think about what could have transpired.

She did lock up her apartment on the way out, although she knew that if someone wanted to get in badly enough, they could easily knock down the door or shoot the lock out. She hated leaving, knowing that she could possibly come back to a completely ransacked place. Her belongings gone; she'd have to start over. She certainly wouldn't be the first person that happened to. She and peanut didn't have much, since they were on their own.

Pulling her jacket tighter across her stomach, realizing too late that the fabric was starting to get too small for her stretching body, she kept her head downcast and started to walk. Her boots crunched dry leaves and pavement as she walked, trying to remain small and not draw attention to herself. The idea of dying didn't appeal to her, but she knew that if she were to live and lose her baby, she might not recover. Peanut had been an accident, but that didn't mean Lucy didn't care.

The longer she walked, though, the more the panic began to set in. Were those footsteps behind her? Was someone following her? Did that alley ahead have a particularly odd looking shadow protruding from it? Her steps hurried, she rounded a corner and immediately crashed into someone. Her breath caught in her throat, she jerked her head up as she heard the quick apology from the other person.

"I-it's fine." Lucy croaked, glancing over her shoulder. Trying to hide the fact that her belly was obviously a pregnant one, a fact not so well hidden by her too small jacket, she took a step back from the redhead. She didn't like for people to know she was pregnant; her baby deserved to be as protected as possible. "No, I'm fine." Lucy lied, shrugging one shoulder. As fine as someone could be during this time. "I didn't mean to bump into you. I'm sorry."

Evan heard the alarms, the same alarms he hadn't heard since joining the army. It was a shock to his system. His heart began to pound. He struggled to sit up in the hospital bed. Burns were covering his right arm and leg, it'd be a lifelong reminder of his failure to the army and his team.

The alarms stopped and as he finally set his foot on the ground he noticed it was eerily quiet in the hospital. Evan had to support himself against chairs, railings and whatever else was in the room to make it to the door. He peeked out. A small hurdle of nurses were congregated at the desk whispering. Suddenly a scream reverberated through the halls. The women turned in the direction of the yell and with wide eyes scattered into a room. He supposed they locked it.

The person who was yelling came barreling down the corridor. A man in his late thirties, dressed in what he'd consider homeless wear, came into view. He had a small knife held high above his head. He looked crazed. Evan closed his door. There wasn't a lock but from what he'd seen of the man he wasn't opening doors. Just running around scaring people.

After thirty minutes Evan opened the door. A woman in hospital garments and an IV pole was creeping up the hall towards him. They locked eyes and she trembled to a stop. He held his hands up in a nonthreatening manner. "I'm just trying to get out of here," he said calmly. She nodded and started walking again. Evan crept out of the room while also keeping an eye on his surroundings. That's one thing the army had instilled in him. The woman was also keeping an eye on him as they made their way through the hospital to freedom. Surprisingly they didn't encounter any deadly mobs. Just people like themselves trying to survive whatever this was.

At the doors to the outside, Evan nodded at the woman before stepping outside. He heard three rapid shots of gunfire from a distance. In his white and blue hospital gown he was a walking target. Not even to mention the wraps covering his burns. He was a walking billboard that said "IM WEAK KILL ME." Evan had to make it home. There he could protect himself.

Mackenzie paused momentarily to look the girl up and down. She was pretty, too pretty to be out on her own ever, let alone during this impromptu Purge. Mackenzie probably looked intimidating, with fiery red hair and shocking green eyes while decked out in leather and holding a gun. The girl immediately took a step back from her, and Mac could see the look of fear in the woman's eyes. But behind that was a look of determination. Realizing this in the moment, Mackenzie tucked the firearm back in its holster and held her hands up, palms facing the woman to show she didn't mean her any harm. "It's alright, I mean you know harm," she said, her voice somewhat eerily calm but honest. Mackenzie took a step back as well, just to secure her statement even more.

Mac felt adrenaline shoot through her veins, realizing that she hadn't checked the woman over for any signs of danger. While the redhead knew the blonde in front of her wasn't in her little black book, she wasn't sure that the woman was entirely safe. Striking emerald eyes scanned the woman, looking for any sign of weapon or murderous intent. Thankfully, she found none. However, Mackenzie did find something that made her pause, her eyes focusing on the woman's rounded stomach. She tried to hide it with her jacket, but the small movements caught Mac's eye. "You're pregnant," Mac said softly, more to herself but still loud enough for the woman to here.

Mackenzie was a lot of things. An orphan. A loner. An alcoholic. A smoker. A killer. But she had her entire family taken away from her, brutally and cruelly. She was entirely alone, and dead set on taking down all of the people who made her that way. But, Mac would never be the one to take someone away from their family. Even those that weren't born yet. Mackenzie shook herself out of her daze, eyes focusing on the woman once again. "I'm sorry if I scared you, but you probably shouldn't be out on your own. Where are you going? Maybe I can escort you," Mac said softly, fully aware of their surroundings and staying on high alert.

"And that's what I am, the answer and the solution" says Councilman Joshua Boothe as the applauds from supporters and scattered passerby's sound from the center of town. "I have given your children more opportunities, I have given you clearer skies, cleaner water, and fresher landscapes. When I become mayor and overlook this city, it will be a brand new day" more applauds echo within the area.

"What about the Purge? Why do the rich hide behind their gates and watch us kill ourselves every year?" A loud voice speaks out from the applause. Scattered boo's resonate against the lone person speaking out as soon as the voice ends speaking out against Boothe. "Yeah what you are gonna do about the Purge?" Yet another voice speaks out from the crowd. "You guys said you would end the Purge but it's been 6 years since you said that!" and a third voice sounds with murmuring in the crowd slightly growing.

"Ladies and gentleman. Let me ask you something" begins the councilman. "Have I not brought more jobs to this city?" he asks as the murmurs lessened. "Have I not helped give more money to schools? I have spoken out against raising taxes. The crime rate has dropped. And you all live much better lives. Everything that I do, I do for the greater of this city...............including the Purge" he says as the crowd grows silent, some in disbelief, some in shock, and some curious and waiting to see what he has to say next. "No matter how much change and prosperity I bring to this city, there are still some things that won't ever change. How many of you after a long day of working, paying bills, taking care of your children, and getting ready for the next day, have trouble sleeping at night? You have a boss that makes the 8 to 10 hours of work unbearable and that will lead you to an early death after 30-40 years of stress of dealing with them. How many of you have neighbors that keep you up at night with loud noises and partying when all you want to do is sleep? How many times have you seen your car, your home, or property broken into? Property that you worked hard to buy day in and day out. And how about those that humiliate you? They don't have a care in the world and don't even remember the event that has scarred you for life because that's who they are and what they do" he says as the crown is completely silent listening to every word.

"You take care of your wife, you take care of your children, and you take care of your entire family and do what is right. And what about them? Should they never face any consequences for all the lives they ruin and the things they do? Should they not know how it feels when they put you down? Should they not know how it feels when you're so stressed out, every morning before work you sit in your car and take a moment before you head to face another 8 or 10 hour day? Should they be rewarded for stealing what you worked so hard for, for them to take it in an instant and not know what you went through to purchase that item? My answer to that is no! There are consequences for what a person does. They can get away from the police, from justice, and from the city authority, but they can't get away from one thing.....................you! You know who it is who ruins your life! You know who it is that makes you hesitate getting up from bed every morning and facing another day! You know who it is who deserves to face the consequences! And that's what the Purge is, justice for all!"

The crowd cheers and it is almost deafening. The few voices that speak out are muted by the loud cheers and applause.
"It will be a brand new day when I'm mayor ladies and gentleman" Councilman Boothe says in the microphone as the crowd continues to cheer.

Suddenly a loud sound dwarfs the volume of the cheers. The Purge siren. Councilman Boothe is dumbfounded for a moment and is physically frozen. A second loud sound instantly sounds in the air and the guard next to the Councilman falls down forward, 3 feet from Councilman Boothe. "The Purge" he says.

Shoot? Evelyn's eyebrows raised slightly at the man's word. It was either that this man was a reckless or that he had a death wish. Still, her grip on the weapon did not falter not until Rebecca spoke. "Eviee! He saved us, he killed the man who attacked us," The girl claimed. Eviee could not help but narrow her eyes but at the sight of bleeding Isabelle, it didn't take her long before she was at her side. Isabelle was losing a lot of blood, and her consciousness was fading by the second. Eviee shrugged of her jacket, the winter's cold bit at her skin, causing her to shiver. At least the apartment was near, so she would not have to freeze to death. The woman pressed the fabric onto the nasty gash. There was now only one problem. Years ago, if the twins were still eleven year old children, Evie would have manage to lift them up effortlessly, however, children grew fast and she would not be able to manoeuvre the unconscious body easily, not to mention, protect themselves from the chaos of the purge.

"We can't get a move on. Isabelle is to heavy for me to carry," Evelyn explained as she turned towards the man who claimed that he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. But for her, Isabelle and Rebecca, it was the other way around. He was at the right place, at the right time and now, Eviee needed his help.

"Could you help us? The apartment is only a few blocks away." Eviee said, putting as much effort into her words hoping that this man would agree. She doubt he would be easily persuaded, after all, only moments ago did she pulled a gun on him.

"And Why should I help you?" The man asked.

at his words, Evelyn's lips pressed into a thin line, contemplating her options. She had really nothing much to offer. But she would give her best shot for Isabelle's life was at stake here. "Its safe there. And theres food... lunch." Eviee, at this point of blabbering, wanted to slap her forehead. First of all, bribing a grown man with food might not seem like to best of an option and secondly, no where in the Purge was safe. So she resulted in digging through her bag and pulling out a small pocket knife. "You can have this to defend yourself along the way." She added. At last , the man had lifted Isabelle up and she and Rebecca led them towards the apartment.

The plush white towel dried Mallory's damp skin. Sighing she pulled on her clothes. The black tanktop fit snuggly tucked into her dark blue jean. Throwing her wet hair into a messy bun she left the gym showers. Many people took advantage of the cheap gym membership, some to lose weight and many others to stay in shape.

The air outside of the gym was crisp causing Mallory to shiver. Unlocking her rusted blue pickup truck she pulled out the black leather jacket. Sliding her arm into one sleave she stopped. A different cold chill rushed down her spine. The loud familiar sirens rang throughout the city. Quickly pulling her jacket all the way on she hopped into her truck locking the doors. Pulling out her phone she looked at social media, the alarm had only gone off seconds before but people already began posting. Everyone was filled with confusion, some were scared and others excited. Quickly opening up her messages she sent a group text adding the savior she knew. It was short and simple asking if they knew what was going on. Throwing her phone to the passenger seat she hoped someone would get back to her.
Noting the people running out of the various stores in the shopping center she quickly started her car pulling out of the soon to be chaotic parking lot.

The city was already in chaos. It seemed to devolve into it quicker than on the actual purge, Mallory frowned realizing it was probably because at least with the actual purge people have time to prepare. A loud screeched forced her to stop people watching, and focus on the road. The car in front of her swerved not to hit the woman brutally killing the man in the middle of the street. Mallory braked hard, she wouldn't be able to get home easily without a weapon. Her friend from the saviors, Jenna lived in an apartment building nearby. If she could stop there and get a weapon she could traverse the city a lot safer. Understanding this was the only option she reversed cutting through the hospital parking lot would be a lot quicker. But she once again found herself breaking, a man wearing a hospital gown exited the hospital various parts of his body was covered in bandages. Without a second thought, she rolled down her window.

"Need a ride? It's hell back that way." Mallory nodded her head towards the direction she just came from. "I can get you somewhere safe, or a weapon if you'd rather rough it on your own." She glanced in her rearview mirror as gunshots rang out like a symphony.

Sebastian Archer Radcliffe.

Who was he?

He was a man of many talents: a playboy. A party hopper. The son of a conglomerate businessman who took what he wanted and wanted to conquer the world with that damned woman. His moniker: Lars was what he went by when he left - even in prison. Lars was a creator, inventer, and crafter. He was once a husband, if he could even carry such a title. A sad shit of a husband. Lars was right in his assumption: nothing good ever happened in his presence. Regardless, the name Lars was of his own making and from the bottom of the food chain he made himself someone: without the wealth and without business connections that meant nothing to him. He could adapt, change his ways, but did he want to? Never. Not for anyone. Call him a stubborn bull and selfish prick, but Lars had no qualms about it. People judge and who is he to prove them wrong? No one is who they seem underneath their skin and the proof?

The Purge.

However, this position he was in was not a situation he wished he had to partake in or could ever believe himself to be in. He was not a "savior", not even an hour ago he was locked in his holding cell, doing pull-ups over an iron bar, created out of his own bloody mind and boredom for killing a man an hour before the purge. If looks could kill, he glared at the younger girl for even saying the word "saved". Not even an hour later, he managed to kill an offender, speak of the Devil and he appears. How poetic.

Blue, help them. A woman whispered gently in his head.

Gritting his teeth, Lars could only ball his hands into a fist, angered by the sudden appearance of her voice. She knew he couldn't say no, not when he couldn't save her.

"I won't be held accountable if she dies." Lars grunted underneath his breath, taking the pocket knife in his pocket before swiftly switching with Evie. His hands pressed against the fabric, holding in place more pressure to stop the blood from flowing even more. Once situated as he kept a steady hand on the wound, Lars lifted the fallen girl in his arms. She was light as a feather, however, it didn't take a doctor for someone to notice she was quickly losing blood.

Though the woman Evie's proposal was less than appealing, he couldn't deny that he needed some sort of weapon. Although his martial skills had gotten better, thanks to the inmates who loved picking fights with him, a weapon would be nice. He eyed the gun the woman had momentarily. "Next time, don't hesitate and pull the trigger. If you can't work it, I'm taking the gun." He gruffly said, being upfront with his actions. Lars didn't owe her an explanation but, she owed him especially for getting blood all over his damn shirt.

As they quickly walked, even run towards Evie's apartment a few blocks from the alleyway, Lars could only narrow his eyes as they got closer to their destination. A car lodged into the wall, crash from either drunk driving, a sudden backstab, or just stupidity. Either way, as they approached the apartment, Lars could only scoff, shaking his head. "What floor and keys?" He didn't admit it, but he was hesitant. He just got out in the fresh air only to go back inside? Although the resounding screams and terror of car alarms, fire, and the chaotic world around them, Lars could only internally groan. "Closed spaces." Was all he could utter after.

Sirens.

But not the ambulance sirens Kai had grown familiar with. No, these were something far more sinister. That much he knew for sure.

The Purge had started unexpectedly... and months too early, at that.

Mismatched eyes staring blankly at the hospital ceiling above him, Kai struggled to come up with a method of survival. He'd just started recovering from heart surgery, and he weighed less then a hundred pounds on a good day... what hope did he honestly have? Not much, and that was putting it generously.

He wasn't going to just sit and wait to die, though.

Sitting up as slowly and carefully as he could manage, the bright-haired boy pulled his hoodie out of the bag beside his bed and slid it on over his thin blue gown, taking momentary comfort in its familiar warmth. He then laced his favorite pair of converse and shoved his medication into his pockets before rising to stand on shaky legs.

By now, he could hear gunshots ricocheting off the hospital walls somewhere, as well as screams and shouts of violence and terror enveloping the entire structure. Clutching his IV pole close as a makeshift weapon, he took a few steps out into the hall and then ducked back inside, his weak heart pounding away frantically as he tried to quiet his breathing.

Waiting until the huge man outside waving the gun had vanished, Kai took a deep breath and hurried away, wincing slightly as the motion tugged at his healing wound. He didn't dare cry out though, as to do so would mean certain death. Being small and silent was his only hope.

After a few minutes of sneaking around, Kai almost jumped out of his skin when he noticed a man in bandages and a woman who, like himself, was dragging an IV pole, just ahead of him. Pressing his back to the wall, he observed them for a moment before deciding that they seemed less hostile than most, and to trail after them while (hopefully) still staying hidden.

Kai did exactly that, his small stature working in his favor for once as he made his way to the exit in relative silence and slipped out seemingly unnoticed.

Emphasis on seemingly.

"Kid! Yes, you in the blue dress with the funny hair! Watch your bac-"

Kai ducked instinctively, though he was at once confused as to why he'd obeyed this likely hostile stranger. His thoughts were silenced by a gunshot so loud it had to have only been a few feet away, and tears began to well up in his eyes despite himself.

After all the pain and experimental procedures Kai had endured to keep his promise to his dad and survive despite the odds, he was going to die to a deranged gunman.

"P-please," he stuttered, turning around to look at the person who would soon take his life as he raised his hands in a futile message of surrender, "I won't... I won't tell anyone what I saw. Please let me go... please?"

"Kid, the hell you on about? I just saved your life, you should be beggin' Mr. Steriods over here, except ya can't, 'cause he's dead. Creeps like that, shooting at weird children in dresses... he deserved it, ya know?"

Kai stood motionless, unsure of what to say. Before him stood a man with vivid crimson hair, holding a smoking gun in his hand as he looked from Kai to the dead man on the ground and back again with an expression that read as slightly curious.

Who on earth?

"Crimsyn Revenge, at your service," the strange man offered, bowing and lifting a non-existent hat. He then holstered his gun, eyes remaining on Kai's chest. "I'd love to chat, but you look like you're feeling pretty shit and I'm no medic, so we're gonna have to find ya some help. What's your name, kid?"

"K-kai," Kai stammered, still beyond confused.

He followed Crimsyn's gaze to his chest, which had been stained red. Some stitches must've popped, and now that he was aware, he could definitely feel it. Dammit.

Crimsyn stepped closer, and as Kai was too dazed to react, he simply stood there as the world went to chaos around him. Then, whether from shock, blood loss or perhaps a combination of both, he collapsed forward and into Crimsyn's outstretched arms.

"I don't feel so good..." he mumbled softly, before his mismatched eyes fluttered shut.

"Damn it all," Crimsyn muttered, lifting the now unconscious boy into his arms and holding him with one hand and his IV pole with the other. He'd need to remove it of course, but only once they had some semblance of shelter. Doing so out in the open was too risky.

He then noticed a car squealing by with a woman inside, who was offering a ride to another man in bandages.

"Oi! Car lady and bandage man who is also in a blue dress! Can I get some help here? Kid's wounded pretty bad, needs help and I ain't doing CPR on a dude if it gets to that point, so he's gonna need a medic ASAP."

Though he hoped they were decent people, one hand had made its way to his gun just in case. Crimsyn hardly knew the young man in his arms, but he'd be damned if anyone was gonna hurt him worse than he already was.

"So, can you get him outta here? Pretty please with a candied cherry on top?"

"I'll survive. Somehow I always do.”

As the redhead across from her took a few moments to take her in, Lucy did the same. The redheaded woman's determination matched Lucy's own, although she was sure it was probably for different reasons than her own. All in all, leaving her apartment without any sort of weapon was an idiot move. She'd been so distracted by the impromptu siren that she hadn't even thought about grabbing a knife from her kitchen, or anything.

But the woman across from her had a gun. Swallowing heavily, Lucy looked back up, just as the other woman holstered the weapon and assured her she meant her no harm. She didn't know why she believed her, but she did. Perhaps it was her incessant need to always see the good in people. Perhaps it was for the simple fact that if she'd wanted to shoot her, she could have already.

Giving the other woman a small nod, Lucy breathed out a sigh of relief. Just as she dipped her head, she heard the words you're pregnant coming from the redheads mouth. Looking instinctively at her stomach, and then back up at her newfound acquaintance, she gave another small nod. "Just a few months." She whispered, her hand splaying out across her belly.

"I'm heading to a shelter on the other side of town." Lucy admitted, gesturing in the direction she'd been headed. "It's supposed to be safe for... well, people like me. Pregnant people. Anyone, really, but especially for those of us in this predicament." If it was still standing. She hadn't given much thought to what she'd do if it wasn't. "You... you don't mind?"

It started as a normal day, just like any other. The Tran Family was just spending their day together, mainly just relaxing after making preparations in their Condo to prepare for Vivian's baby. Unfortunately for the younger Tran, Vivian went past her due date and was now two weeks overdue. Jessica kept a close eye on her. The four decided to spend their day at the mall, hoping to do some last minute shopping for baby clothes. Everything was fine...until the sirens had sounded, much to Vivian's horror. Those weren't just any sirens, that was to signal that the purge was about to begin. Wait, it was January! The Purge is usually in July! Was it the Politicians just fucking with them? False Alarm? Both Victoria and Jessica could only hope so. As the Sirens blared, Vivian started having a panic attack. "No, no, this can't be happening." She cried before she started hyperventilating.

Jessica wasted no time in rushing to comfort Vivian. "Hey, its gonna be okay. We'll be here for you. I promise I won't let anything happen to you or your little piper." She said and placed her hand on Vivian's belly and rub her back with the other. "Deep breaths, Vi, let's not stress out the little piper." She proceeded to straighten out Vivian's hair as the younger woman slowly calmed down.

Meanwhile, both Valerie and Victoria were trying to figure out on what to do. One thing was for sure... they weren't taking any chances. If this was to be a premature purge, they would have to make it down a few blocks and to their storage unit, where Victoria kept a car that she used specifically on purge night. Within that car were also weapons, most of which weren't legal to own. "Let's lock the place down. Then grab Vivian's hospital bag before we leave."

Jessica nodded before helping Valerie and Victoria in locking down their Condo. Victoria had purchased cutting edge security systems, but didn't exactly buy 'Purge Insurance' due to the last minute price hikes that they could just not afford. They began locking down all the windows and the doors, shutting off all the lights and the power within their home. While Jessica went to grab Vivian's Hospital Bag from her room, Valerie finished locking down the windows in the living room and closing all the vents. Victoria was finishing on barricading the front door and locking it down hard before grabbing her steering wheel for her car. As the family left the Condo through the garage, which was also now locked down, Valerie handed Jessica her two guns. Hopefully they would not encounter anything too crazy on the way. With Vivian being very far along in her pregnancy, they had to move slowly and hopefully quietly. Hopefully they wouldn't have to shoot too much either. This was not how any of them were expecting their day to go...or night for that matter. With all medical and emergency services suspended, Vivian was extremely worried about going into labor and could only hope she does not get too stressed out.

As they began making their way down the street, a man emerged from an alleyway and attempted to grab Vivian. "No, please don't hurt me, I'm pregnant!" She yelped as someone grabbed her arm

He let go as soon as he was shot in the chest by Jessica...only for Valerie to shoot him in the head. They continued to move and make their way down the street. Valerie's Guardian side took hold, so she was going to be killing virtually anything that moves towards them. Victoria clutched her steering wheel as Jessica kept eye for anyone that could possibly be following them. The four of them proceeded to make their way down an alleyway, hoping for a safer passage to the storage unit that housed their safest means of transportation. Upon making their way to the other end, they could see their storage unit across the street. "Alright, there's our ticket out of here. Jess, wait here with Viv, me and Victoria are gonna go get the car." Valerie said before nodding and checking the magazine in her Glock to ensure that she had enough ammunition.

While Vivian and Jessica remained in the alley, away the entrance, Valerie and Victoria made their way to the storage unit, climbing over the fence as they made a dash for their storage unit.

Mackenzie was always prepared for an opportunity to exact revenge against the list she kept of people who had wronged her and her family. She kept firearms and blades on her at all times, even keeping multiple options in reach while she slept. The sooner she crossed out every name on that list, the sooner she could be happy. Or at least that's what she believed. The world would be a safer place without the people in her little black book occupying it. Sure, she knew that the vigilante lifestyle was dangerous and stressful. But Mac bared so much hatred for each one of those people that she took solace in watching the life drain from their eyes, just like they had done when they murdered her family. Maybe when she was done, she could finally relax and live a normal life. Well, as normal as it could be anyway.

Mackenzie refocused when the woman sighed, seemingly relieved that Mac had no intentions of killing her. She spoke up, confirming Mac's suspicions about her pregnancy and placing a comforting hand on her belly. Mackenzie glanced down at her stomach, then back up to her eyes. given the life she lead, Mac had never considered the possibility of bringing a child into the world. She couldn't justify bringing another person into her life as a partner, let alone her own flesh and blood. She wondered briefly why, in a world where the Purge existed, the woman would want that for her kid. Then again, maybe it wasn't entirely a choice, in one way or another. Either way, it wasn't Mackenzie's place to judge.

Mackenzie shoved her hands into the front pockets of ripped black jeans, absentmindedly happy that their dark color hid the tiny specks of Patrick's blood from earlier. She would rather the woman not know about her murderous side during the Purge for fear of her retaliating or freaking out. It was easier for Mac to hide her personal side, and that was the reason she built up such tall emotional walls. The redhead nodded at the woman's words, having heard of camps and shelters built for protecting people during her research and murder planning. They were something of a sanctuary that Mac had to plan around, refusing to break into a place where innocent people thought they were safe and changing their mind. "Nah, I don't mind at all," Mackenzie responded, shrugging her shoulders. "But we might want to get a move on. The sooner we get there, the safer you'll be."

We're all a little naive

Iris Jane Meadows

Iris was sleeping when the siren went off. After the night she had had, she had been totally fine with accepting a full day loss to the glory of sleep. Although, that was apparently not in the cards for her. At first, she thought she was dreaming - having a nightmare, to be specific - but the more she was risen from her sleep the louder it seemed the siren became until it was unavoidable. Oh, it was there, it was real, and Iris was completely and utterly fucked.

It was January. JANUARY. This shit had not ever happened in the history of what she knew, in Janu-fucking-ary. She bolted out of bed, throwing on what she had worn the night before. Every year she stayed at her dads house for the month of July, or at least until after the purge was over. It was fool proof. Her dad had tricked them out with the best of the best, and no one knew where the bunker was. Sure, their belongings were threatened, but anything of value came with, along with the pets, babies, and whatever else was important enough to shove in the bunker. It was perfect, so fucking perfect that Iris was not there. No, she was here, in her little apartment, fifteen miles from her dads house. That wasn’t far on a normal day, but during the purge it was almost certain death. She had never been outside during the purge, but she knew what happened during it. And oh fuck, was she fucked.

She picked up her phone, dialing her dads number as she ran around the house, trying to collect anything to use as a make shift weapon. There was no dial tone, phones rarely worked during the purge. Too many people calling loved ones, and on this surprise of a mother fucking purge, she’d be dead before her call made it through.

Iris sighed, staring down at her phone. It was the first time he had stopped moving since she had gotten up. What the fuck was she going to do? She could hide out in her house, hope that no one would break into her particular house, and try to survive. Plenty of people did that every year. Plenty of people died that way, too, though. Too many sick fucks walking around on a day like today. There was really only one choice.

Make that 15 mile walk.

It took a few minutes to get to their storage unit and open it up to get to the car. Thankfully everything was still intact. Quickly, Victoria and Valerie went to check the trunk to make sure that their illegally obtained weapons were still in the trunk. They were. And there was plenty of ammunition, as Victoria would stock up on it regularly anticipating the Purge. Sadly, she was not expecting a premature one like today, so she could only hope that there was enough for the next twenty-four hours. Opening the car, Victoria put her Steering Wheel on before igniting the engine which was loud and gave away their position. Upon getting the car out, Valerie shut the storage unit and re-locked it. Their usual tactic on restoring the car was taking it to Victoria's workplace to fix it up if any damage is sustained, followed by putting it on a flatbed or trailer and then haul it back to the Storage Unit. Seeing how things were now, they were probably going to have to consider storing it back at the Condo. Either that or sell or buy a house. After this Purge, hopefully the girls could pool their income together and buy a bigger home and just lock it down instead of having to seek sanctuary. In any case, Valerie was hoping to find a place where Vivian can deliver her baby safely. The poor girl was two weeks past her due date and the day that she is most likely to give birth happens to be a premature purge. Soon they were able to pull out of the storage area and back towards the alley where Vivian and Jessica were waiting. Just as the SUV came to a stop, someone began opening fire at them. "Big mistake..." Valerie growled as she had just finished strapping on her ballistics vest and loading up her SMG. "Vic, help Jessica get Vivian into the car, I'll provide covering fire."
momo-drifting-steering-wheel.png06d7c673e1f70e881f7ceacc47c7baca--mp-shooting.jpg300x0w.jpg

Thankfully the windows on the car were bulletproof and the car itself was armored, so bullets were just bouncing off the windows, while leaving dings and dents on the doors and other parts of the car. It wasn't just about being fast, but they had to maximize protection too. Using the car door as cover, Victoria moved to help Jessica get Vivian into the car. "Oh my god, how much sweet potatoes have you been eating!?"

"Now's not the time for fat jokes, Vic..." Vivian responded, sounding as if she was about to cry.

Jessica helped her get back into the third row and proceeded to help her younger cousin relax, especially since Victoria almost made her cry. "Hey, don't cry, I'll give you a massage once we get to a safe place." She then pulled out her phone to keep track of Vivian's contractions and the baby kicks.

During the gunfire exchange, Valerie was eventually hit, with a stray bullet grazing her cheek. Not taking anymore chances, she got back into the car as they all closed. "Fucker hit me in the cheek." She said, grabbing a first aid kit so that she could treat the bullet graze on her cheek.

As Victoria began to drive, she made her way down the street. Some Blocks were empty, others were just scenes of chaos, carnage. Those unable to defend themselves during this time were going to be fighting losing battles. It wasn't going to be long until they would have trouble navigating through the city. Valerie continued to patch herself up while Jessica did her best to keep Vivian calm while timing her contractions, starting by massaging Vivian's feet and ankles. They continued to keep the windows rolled up. If they got shot at, they could just speed off. They also had two more vacant seats...four if they counted the trunk behind the seats that Jessica and Vivian were using. Jessica then gave Vivian's belly a gentle kiss as she spoke to the unborn child, hoping to at least get Vivian to smile, or at the very least keep her calm and comfortable. "Now little one, you need to relax. I know you and Mommy are scared, but please don't stress her out. Your aunties also love you very much." She said, keeping a firm hand on the belly as she looked at Vivian, who smiled a little bit. "Though hopefully Auntie Victoria will be nicer once we get to safety. Will we get to meet you tonight?"

The baby then sent a few strong kicks against Jessica's hand, prompting Vivian to groan. "Don't...encourage her...Ow!" She frowned as a contraction came right after another strong kick. "Sorry..." the slightly older woman grimaced.

The Tran Family continued to drive. As Victoria glanced at the fuel gauge, they saw that there was roughly half a tank remaining...

We're all a little naive

Iris Jane Meadows

Iris hadn’t moved much in the last minute. She was desperately trying to think of any other option she had. There were really only two, stay here and have a much higher chance of dying, or get to her fathers house and survive the night. The only thing about that second plan, was actually getting to her fathers house. She did have a car, which could get her there in 10 minutes or less with the lack of laws, but she was a giant moving target in the street. She wouldn’t be able to stop for people, and she wasn’t trying to become a killer herself. Although, she would, if she had to. She wasn’t a murderer but she wasn’t just a victim either. That was really it, though, wasn’t it? Run. That was the best option.

Iris collected anything of use around her house. She had a knife from the kitchen, secured around her leg with an old belt that she had quickly cut the excess off. She had a baseball bat in her hands, too. It would have been nice to have some nails in it or something, but there was no time for that. Not to mention none of what she had would be of any use to her if someone with a gun came to her.

A sound similar to a gunshot but not quite punctuated her thoughts. She didn’t need to turn to know what it was, it was too close. She was being broken into. Her front door was being forced open. It hadn’t given yet, thanks to her anxiety and extra locks, but it would. It wasn’t that good, but it would buy her time.

There were many things Iris wished she could take with her, but there wasn’t time or space and without giving it another thought she jumped out the window in her bedroom and onto the fire escape. You’d have never seen a girl go down a latter as fast as she did. In fact, she didn’t even make it down all the way, just jumped about half way. She wasn’t that athletic, but in that moment she felt like she was spider man or some shit.

The best way to make it to her dads house was certainly not the main streets. Even if someone didn’t see her on foot, there was a good chance she’d get run down by a car. But, did she really remember how to get to her dads house that well? Not really. She was never good at that kind of thing. She decided to peek her head out, just past her building and into the street. It wasn’t as chaotic as she expected. No burning buildings and dead laying around. Although, she supposed in some places that would be just how it would look. Too early, probably. She began to sprint down the sidewalk. She made it about a half mile before she saw an SUV round the corner. “Fuck,” she said under her breath, before making a sharp turn into the alley. It had to pass. It would pass. It would *not* stop in front of this alley. It couldn’t. It wont.

"I'll survive. Somehow I always do.”

Lucy wasn't the type of girl to just blindly trust anyone she met on the street, especially in the middle of the purge. But she liked to pride herself on being a decent people reader, too, and the redhead across from her didn't seem to want to do her harm. Lucy had seen the way her expression changed and heard the way her voice shifted when she realized the blonde was pregnant; either Lucy would be safe with her, or die fighting. Those were really the only two options.

As the redhead slipped her hands into her pockets, Lucy nodded in agreement to her words. "Trust me, that's fine with me." What sounded like a gunshot sounded off somewhere nearby, and Lucy shuddered. "More than fine." Without another word, Lucy met the redheads gaze and then started walking, figuring she'd follow. "I don't know side streets or anything, really, so if you know a better way-- by all means." Gesturing ahead of her, she allowed a small smile to appear.

It didn't last long as another gunshot rang out. At this rate, she'd have a fucking heart attack. Placing a protective hand on her belly, she glanced up at the sky, silently praying to the powers that be that she would survive this night. Her protector, too. Glancing over at the woman, she eyed her silently for a moment before speaking. "I'm Lucy." Not that she thought sharing names would make them best friends. In reality, if they never saw each other again after tonight it wouldn't be news. Lucy just thought that it was a nice gesture.

While Valerie used one of the mirrors to clean the blood off her cheek and treat the wound, Victoria saw someone stepping into an alleyway. At first Victoria didn't want to stop, but ended up relenting because the idea of leaving an innocent person out in the open didn't sit with her, or letting a deranged kill walk free. Sure, all forms of crime were legal during the purge, but morally it was all just wrong. Vic would be willing to protect the innocent and so would her sisters and her cousin, especially Vivian. "You guys stay here, I'm gonna go investigate." She pulled over, but left the engine running so that if she needed to, she could jump in, close the door and gun it.

Victoria then exited the vehicle, with her gun locked and loaded. She kept it lowered as she moved closer towards the person that she saw go down the alleyway. "Hey...I'm not gonna shoot you...I just want to talk...Or...if you're looking for a safe place, I can take you there too. There's room in my car." She said in a soft-spoken tone, not wanting to frighten the other person.

Meanwhile, in the car, Valerie continue to clean her wound before putting a bandage on to cover it up. She then got out of her car to keep an eye out on any possible incoming purgers. Meanwhile, Jessica continued to comfort Vivian hoping that she wouldn't go into labor. Jessica proceeded to grab a pillow for the mother-to-be and a blanket for her, allowing Vivian to rest her feet on her lap. She would then take the shoes off to massage Vivian's aching feet. "I just hope the baby can wait until we get to a safer place. Or better yet, until after this purge..."

"I'm forty-two weeks pregnant. I can pop at any minute..." She replied. "So I'm not getting my hopes up. I just wish the little piper lets me rest because she's been kicking all week and won't let me take any naps. This sleep deprivation is really getting to me..." She frowned.

"Hey, no frowning...A Stressed mommy-"

"Means a stressed baby, I know..." Vivian sighed.

Mackenzie didn't even flinch as the sound of another gunshot ripped through the air. When she had been younger, the sharp sound had made her jump and yelp every time. That's natural for a child, she supposed. But as she grew older, Mac heard too many gunshots, and became more and more immune to the shock value brought by them. Training an expert markswoman meant that she couldn't be afraid of her own weapons. Mackenzie noticed Lucy's shudder and suddenly remembered that she was an anomaly when compared to the normal person. While Mac blatantly ignored her fears, not all people could do the same. She had to admit, though, the woman was doing a damn good job of trying to.

Mackenzie nodded when Lucy spoke up again, looking at the nearest street sign to double check her location. She took a moment to silently debate if it would be better to stick to stay in the street lights where they could see what was coming or hide away in the shadows and try to avoid what might be there. She felt the weight of her weapons and looked around the street, eyeing the terrified people that scurried passed, attempting to get to safety. Deciding Mac fit best in the shadows, she turned and led the pregnant woman down an alley in the direction she knew the camps would be located. Sounds of chatter and panic whirled around them, but Mac ignored them as she led the way, staying on high alert.

Mac glanced over at the blonde woman as she spoke, emerald eyes assessing her short before looking down the alley again. "Mackenzie," she responded, not really wanting to share any more details just in case. More gunshots could be heard, but they instilled a sense of calm in Mac as opposed to fear or panic. A skittering sound was a little too close to comfort, causing Mac to place a tentative hand on her side arm. "We're getting close to where I've heard they would be," she whispered, just loud enough for Lucy to hear, "I'm not too keen on the specific. Any identifying landmarks? Do you know where it is?"

Iris held her breath, and to her dismay the car slowed down and stopped, and she heard a car door slam. "Motherfucker," she whispered under her breath, looking around her. She could run, but she wouldn't make it all the way down the alley and around a corner before they got here. She could be waiting for death, but she decided not to move. Maybe, if she was lucky, she would win a fight against whoever it was. It was either that, or die. Her heart beat rapidly in her chest, and her stomach rolled with fear. This really had to be the worst feeling in the world. She wasn't ready to die, that was for sure.

A woman came around the corner, and before Iris had any time to react she began to speak. That was a nice surprise, she supposed, given that she half expected to be shot before she could even take a step. Her heart still beat hard, but the woman seemed to be kind. It was no time to be trusting anyone, and she did notice the woman had a gun, but it wasn't pointed at her. "I'm... trying to get to my dad," she said, her voice shaking more than she wanted it to. She left out the safe house bit, no one knew he had one and she wanted to keep it that way. "He's about 15 minutes from here, though," she said, considering the woman's offer. There was no reason to trust her, she knew that, but it could be a better opportunity for her than to continue the way she was going. Her dad would be fine, right? He wouldn't wait for her - would he? She hoped not. She hoped he'd get himself inside safety.

"How can I trust you? You could be waiting to torture me... or worse," she said, eyeing the woman's gun.
