The year is 2240. Humanity, as we know it, is on the brink of extinction.
Quite the statement, isn’t it? What could have unfolded so unfortunately? How could we have gone so wrong? The answer is exactly what you think it is. Humanity did what it does best, and destroyed itself. War and pollution turned the planet into a harsh and inhospitable wasteland, and those lucky enough to escape found refuge in the barely functioning space colonies before the planet began to rot.
Life became quiet, cold. Food was barely enough to keep the populous from starving. For generations, this is the life that humanity has suffered through, the dull lifestyle of off-world refuge.
That is, until just recently.
You see, among those rich enough to afford a ticket on the 21st century Ark, were those important enough to be on board as well, so that human culture as a whole would survive this catastrophic incident. The scientists of our colony have been putting forth some very interesting studies on the state of the Earth, mostly its atmosphere, which was previously thought to be toxic. The scientists say with 100% certainty that the earth has begun to heal, occurring sometime after our departure.
I'm going to put it bluntly, we’re putting together a skeleton crew to man an expedition back onto the Earth, and we’re looking for volunteers. We can’t force anyone in this colony to go, but those of you who I know are brave enough to do this, I hope you make the right choice. That being said, those who grew up with tales of what it was like before, it is nothing like that now. Studies show a massive change in the planet’s ecosystem, due to the chemicals released during the fall of humanity.
Gentlemen, we don't know what's down there. But that has never stopped us in the past. Our history is expedition, and conquest. We will not fail those forefathers who gave their lives so that we may carry on their legacy.
Godspeed,
Director Cole
TL : DR : Humans pollute Earth so bad it becomes inhospitable, flee to mars or whatever for a hundred or so years and learn that after so long, it's mutated but alive.
Characters MUST have a specialization that makes them a valid member of the Expedition.
Specializations include (but are not limited to; use your imagination)
Engineer
Combat Specialist
Any -ists (Biologist, Botanist, Geologist, etc)
Weapons Specialist
Demolitions Expert
Scout
Tech Specialist**
Hunter
**This is Future tech we're talking about, highly advanced but practical and manufactured.
There will also be a vote on whether we do a small pre-scene leaving the colony or timeskip straight to landing on the earth.
Edit: Why would it appear at the top? That's weird.
