1944 ~ Valkyire / 'Status of Europe' update

On the 20th of July a bomb was set off in the Wolf's Lair --- the location of an important meeting between Adolf Hitler and major officers in his staff. Colonel Heinz Brandt had noticed an unmarked briefcase underneath the table, and moved it aside to make room for himself and the Fuhrer to sit. As his leg came in contact, a blinding blast shattered the table, both of Brandt's legs, and shards of wood peppered the leader of the Reich. Hitler was rushed to a hospital in Rastenberg, East Prussia, but died of his wounds before the doctors could reach him, four other high-ranking officials of the Reich had also been killed, six others seriously injured while the rest only suffering minor wounds. But the shock had completely disrupted the normally steadfast minds and minds of Hitler's cabinet. Deputy-Chancellor Hermann Göring had been arrested by Wehrmacht officers, while soldiers from the Reserve army march into Berlin under leadership of Claus von Stauffenberg and seize command of the Reich-Chancellery and the major garrisons based around the city, disarming the Schutzstaffel forces based in the capital of the Reich, the anticipated seemless transition of power did not happen as acting head Stauffenberg delivered the executive orders to the Wehrkreise, major Waffen SS garrisons around the Reich - especially Austria - resist the new junta. The Red Army was on the Polish border while the Allied advance stalled in northern France on it's road to Paris.

Just a quick rundown of altered locations

France and Belgium - As a combined force of British, Canadian, American and other Allied nations storm the beaches of Normandy, the rest of France seems to rise from it's humbling by Germany in 1940, the once beaten and broken French nation now churns against it's German oppressor following the total annexation of the country, the Provisional French Government (GPRF) under De Gaulle has been placed by the Grand Alliance as the new leadership of France, but as the first flames of Normandy settle, it seems that the grand General is still short of the liberation of Paris.
Belgium now merged into the Reichkommissariat of Belgien und Nordfrankreich under the leadership of Reichskommissar Josef Grohé --- a stalwart defender and loyal supporter of Adolf Hitler.
It is believed that France remains under strong SS control and has not been affected heavily by the Reserves, Waffen SS and scattered Wehrmacht regiments maintain a stiff defense near Paris and other vital industrial sectors of the two nations. There is room here for growth in the once diverse French heart.

The Reich's Heartland; Germany, Bohemia and Austria - The shadow of the Fuhrer remains as Waffen SS troops garrison vital Nazi bases near around around the Alps while the brewing unease in the Austrian heart of Vienna would begin to simmer, unsettling the political status quo as anything could happen in the former heart of an empire... anything.
Germany is no different, while BERLIN, STETTIN, DANZIG and KONIGSBERG have been successfully taken over by the Walküre-Regierung - the military junta of Olbricht, von Trecksow, and von Stauffenberg (almost all the conspirators remained in power along the newly carved out government). Along with this, several cities (player chosen) have been occupied by SS and Waffen-SS still loyal to the cause of the Nazi party. Several discontent governors may have also chosen completely different routes. This seems to be the case for almost all German-occupied territory, including the remnants of the now-crumbling Generalgouvernement. It is said as Red Army tanks storm across the Soviet-Polish border, the flag of the Republic is raised high, a last defiant stand by the remnants of the Polish uprising.

• Himmler and Goebbels were both dead, having consumed cyanide as Wehrmacht soldiers stormed their compounds.
• Erwin Rommel had remained hospitalized and under heavy guard by pro-Valkyire soldiers under order from Stauffenberg to avoid his suicide and revenge-killing by rogue Gestapo, should he recover it was believed he would be made Chancellor of a Nazi-free Germany.
• Göring along with other major members of the Fuhrer's cabinet were placed under guarded arrest in Berlin, namely Bormann, Frick, Speer, and Backe.
• From Plön, Karl Dönitz commands the remnants of the Kriegsmarine in a valiant defense of northern Germany.
• It is said Ernst Kaltenbrunner, a man who had simply disappeared from the Wehrmacht's manhunt now leads the remnants of the Waffen-SS from the shadows, though such rumors are unconfirmed.

Some notes;

1. You are not limited to 3 actions per office, this is just to demonstrate a likely method of formatting for those who want to get quick posts out of the way, though if you prefer the more narrative variant, I will not enforce a policy.
2. High Command and the Ministry of War serve a similar purpose - detailing through PMs or Discord as to the intent of your military branch.
3. The navy can be both attributed for your naval command and air command, or you can merge all three offices into one (super?) High Command.
4. The DoSP is for everything you want to keep shady and ominous, for example the United States would have something called 'The Manhattan Project' under here.
5. I am using this format for the sake of simplicity, this is in no way historically accurate to cabinets of nations and more of just a guidebook recommendation of how posts should be articled for well, convenience.

I'll claim the United States. Is the world essentially the same as it is in real history, aside from this one assassination occuring successfully?

The start of 1944 (July) is more or less identical with the exception of Germany - though from there ahistorical events are encouraged to spice things up. Hopefully with a full roster something like this will be quite the meme generator...

Paris was liberated in August - historically speaking Overlord has only been going on for roughly a month now, this is to allow for people interested in taking on the role of Germany for more wiggle room, lest it just start and end with 'the red army rolls in and everyone dies'.
Yes, that's the intent - Valkyire itself was an insane enough plan that had no chance of working that everyone was surprised that it did.
