Welcome to Oak Hills, the small town famous for the breathtaking landscapes surrounding it. Being encircled by large pine-covered hills and a somewhat hidden river, the town is very famous for being an amazing camping and hiking area, or at least it used to be before the tragic events of Jake Sullivan's mysterious murder, which took place two years ago, back in 2018.
Oak Hills being a small town, most people knew each other. The community was connected, and Jake Sullivan was the bright star of the town, the town's golden boy. He was nice to people, especially the elderly, and was one of the most popular students attending the high school, even though he was only 15 at the time of his disappearance.
Some people loved him, and some despised him and said he had been acting fake. While that might have been partially true, Jake had been nothing but honest with the people closest to him, those people being his best friend, his girlfriend, and lastly, his family. Truth was, his family, the Sullivans, had always been the family other families looked up to, but also the family other people envied. The Sullivans appeared perfect from the outside, even though that might not have been what was going on behind the curtains. However, once Jake's lifeless body had been found, the curtains slowly opened, revealing that the Sullivans had their struggles and their battles, just like everybody else.
Of course, Jake's murder, which remains a mystery yet today almost two years after it had taken place, hadn't only shaken his family, but also his best friend and his girlfriend, who often hung out together. The trio, a quartet together with Scott, Jake's brother, was now missing its crucial member.
Nevertheless, that was almost two years ago.
Right now, the sun had come out barely two hours ago, and the rays of sunshine had been waking up the citizens of the small town, alerting them that it was time to get out of their beds and be productive. It had been yet another normal Saturday, the start of the weekend, or at least it seemed like that. The reality, however, was quite different.
The week before was when the arrival of a new family to the small town happened, but it didn't exactly go as planned. Coming into the city, everything seemed perfectly normal, and as the family of five was getting settled into their new town, a lot of people looked at them, especially Nathan, with a startled and astonished face expression, much like they have witnessed a ghost walking among them. Nathan didn't mind it, but he didn't expect the town to be this negative about newcomers.
Of course, it was only later in the week, when the police arrived at their new house, that the White family was informed on why everybody had been so surprised. Nathan White, the one that was in the center of this police visit, was planning to spend the afternoon unpacking his boxes into his newly painted room. However, that wasn't possible, considering he and his family had to spend it at the police station, proving he wasn't the murdered teenager Jake Sullivan.
While both of Nathan's parents wished Nathan just looked similar to the dead boy, the resemblance between the two was uncanny, almost like they were the same person, and this brought a lot of doubt into the family.
The story about a new boy, one who shared a face with the famous Jake Sullivan spread fast across the small town and even made the cover of a local newspaper the next day.
The mayor of the town, Alicia Stone, decided it would be best if the people closest to Jake met Nathan so that all of the shock and disbelief could be solved and so the town and all the people could safely move on and continue with their lives. She had decided that the meeting would be taking place this Saturday in the local high school, seeing almost nobody is in or around the high school on a Saturday, so the meeting wouldn't be disturbed.
Jake's parents, still being heartbroken over the loss of their child, refused to attend the meeting afraid of opening wounds which were still healing, and Nathan's parents, being confused about the whole situation, refused to attend the meeting, but allowed Nathan to go if his sister Sasha accompanied him to it.
Nathan was already up, sitting at the big family table eating cereal. He didn't know how to feel about the whole situation, and that made it even worse. He should've at least felt something, but all he felt was the regret of coming to the town and being the center of people's attention. He was nervous about how the meeting was going to go as he was aware that he wasn't Jake Sullivan, like not at all, and was frightened of the reactions he would get from Jake's family and friends. He was afraid that they would think he was Jake or at least similar to Jake on the inside, not just the outside.
