[ ivy reinhart ] ; mother ; once upon a time, vee's mother was... well, an actual mother. she took care of both her children, and worked various jobs to try and keep them fed. she would always tell vee that she would one day save up enough money for them to move out of their trailer and into a proper apartment, but that day never came. ivy reinhart got greedy, dealt drugs, and one careless mistake got her caught and sent to prison. vee hasn't seen her since she was thirteen.​

[ adam mavericks ] ; father ; vee has never really known her father. she remembers him vaguely, from when she was a toddler, and after that, she only saw him once, when she was ten. he came to visit her for her birthday. she didn't even know why he bothered to come, since he was apparently busy with another family of his own, but he gave vee a silver, crescent moon pendant that she wears all the time, even if she resents her father for never showing his face after that and for just not being around.​

[ orion reinhart ] ; older brother ; vee and her brother were close once. he's five years older than her, and the two of them don't share the same father, but he always took care of her when their mother was out working or off getting high. when their mother was carted off to prison, orion had to take matters into his own hands, and for a while he did. but then he got into the business of selling drugs too. and then he delved into some other businesses, which venus didn't even know about. all she remembers is that shortly after her sixteenth birthday, orion packed a bag, announced that he was leaving for a job that would take a couple of days — but would bring in a lot of money — and he never returned.​

[ connor chapman ] ; best friend ; perhaps the only person that vee could ever confide in. the two of them have been friends since middle school, and he was always there to support her when tings got rough — which was very frequently. similarly, she was there for him when his mother passed away, and his dad is easily the closest thing she has to a parental figure.​

[div class=tag]backstory[/div] growing up wasn't always easy for vee, with the way her family was. still, she went to school on time since her brother ensured it, till she got old enough to take care of herself, and after seeing her wreck of a family, vee decided that she couldn't end up the same way, she was striving for excellence — for a one way ticket out of her trailer park hometown so she could start fresh, and follow a different path. despite all the hardships, and the constant struggle for money, vee's determination helped her graduate with flying colours, while juggling two part time jobs, and she was offered a full ride to a pretty good university where she intended to major in english and minor in music. even if she has no clue where half her family is at the moment, she's one step closer to achieving her goals, and she has her best friend by her side, so she's looking forward to just living out a college experience and just being herself, for a change. Avery comes from a large rowdy family and like Gilbert, was sometimes neglected and forgotten but he and his siblings were close in age and had great companionship which didn't leave him with that same intense feeling of neglect or need for affection.
[div class=tag]Backstory[/div] Being the middle child and second son, Gilbert was often left to mind himself as his parents' attention was divided between his siblings. He grew up in the shadow of his older brother Anton, his parents pride and joy. Nothing he did could ever seem to capture their attention for long because of his talented older brother and the neglect made him very competitive and hunger for attention, affection and praise. Despite this, Gilbert did look up to Anton who was 6 years older and admired him greatly, aspiring to be like him in the hopes that it would get his parents to pay him more attention. As he grew older, he aspired not only to excel in what Anton did, but also what he didn't, and as he achieved success in his endeavours, his parents started to pay him more attention and give him the love he wanted. That all changed when he turned 12 and his parents had his younger sister Elena, their much wanted daughter and 'miracle baby'. Immediately, all the attention went to his baby sister and at the beginning, Gilbert was resentful of it and of her but as he matured and Elena became attached to him, his dislike of her faded, replaced by love and affection instead. The effort he put in to attract the attention and praise of his parents soon started to draw the praise of his classmates and teachers and he began to thrive off that instead, finding his worth in their acknowledgement of his abilities. A part of him resents his parents' neglect of him and it has left him with the intense need to be the best so that he can show them it was a mistake not to pay him much attention growing up.
