Having known nothing different than the harsh life that comes with being from District 7, River is a young man wise beyond his years, sharp and attentive: his intensity is the calm kind and his demeanor is typically serious, unbothered. That being said, hyper-masculine and assertive behavior was often rewarded, leading him to embrace a certain kind of lawlessness and lack of regard for others. He isn't exactly always selfish or unkind—he can certainly be doting in a way that may resemble bossiness—but looking out for anyone else except himself isn't second nature to him.

Life had never been particularly notable or kind to the Calhouns. Born to a pair of ordinary laborer parents in District 7, River was condemned from the very start to live an anonymous life, one whose entire purpose was devoted to upholding his District’s sole purpose.

His personality had other plans, though. The idea of following in the same footsteps of his parents — starting work at the very crack of dawn and returning to their little home, beaten down and weary — deeply dissatisfied him. Although he, like many other District 7 children began to work at the age of eight years old, River wanted more. This life was boring, it didn’t challenge him, and he couldn’t show his talents.

He knew the way he could so easily manipulate his classmates and enforce his will in the hallways and on playgrounds: certainly there had to be more out there for him. The idea of somehow becoming a Peacekeeper intrigued him deeply, but having seen his fair share of unjust searches and beatings, River couldn't bring himself to actively seek out that title.

Always a boy more prone to disrespect and verbal quips, more concerned about getting his point across than how he did so, River found himself frequently being punished in school: serving detentions and attending Saturday school, much to the dismay of his parents, who realized they were helpless in trying to change their son’s course. It was always the same schoolteacher overseeing his detentions, and at some point, he took a sick kind of liking to the young roughneck who couldn’t shut his damn mouth or keep his fists to himself.

If he was already a smoldering bundle of boyish nerves, these incidents, which began happening with a horrible kind of regularity. only worked to coax the worst out of him. Telling someone was absolutely out of the question: who was going to believe him? His friends constantly joked about incidents like this. His parents were too busy to notice and too powerless to take action if they were ever able to find out. But River was powerful, and he knew it as he hit a major growth spurt and finally began to fill out his wiry frame.

He reached his breaking point at the age of seventeen. River decided with a cruel kind of calmness that he could no longer continue to live without trying to do something, anything to make it stop. One day, he deliberately got himself in serious trouble during class, and waited until the end of that school day. When that teacher predictably got too close again, he decided to introduce him to the blade he'd so painstakingly stolen and hid from the Peacekeeper searches for months.

The resulting scene was brutal, to say the absolute least - his rage was obvious. Although the teacher just barely survived the attack (he was stopped rather quickly), River’s name quickly became infamous. News over what had happened and how it happened spread quickly: these kinds of violent crimes were relatively uncommon occurrences, and with the community being as small as it was, word spread quickly - the idea of having lived with a monster in your midst is compelling.

River felt like an empty shell of himself as he was interviewed and examined and pressed for the details about what made him snap, since this act was truly an anomaly out of all the crime in the District. But instead of sharing the years of abuse he quietly endured, well aware that he was in no position for people to trust him and he had no way to prove it, he settled for a shallow, sensational answer (the answer they wanted):

“He looked at me wrong.”

Even if Panem as a whole is cruel to those who break laws, minors (children under the age of eighteen) are exempt from the worse punishments. In the remaining few months before he met his official consequences, River worked alongside incarcerated people in quarries and the densest parts of the forest, doing the backbreaking labor that most law-abiding people scarcely heard of.

But fate always has cruel twists, doesn't it? When this new type of Hunger Games were announced for the 25th anniversary and each District was tasked with voting for their tribute, District 7 was almost unanimous. This was the opportunity they'd been waiting for, and River reached the sobering realization that he was more than likely going to die after having lived a short life devoid of any meaning, anything positive.

Might as well try his best in the Hunger Games.

Regarding his sexuality, River has truthfully not thought about it much and has yet to be in any kind of romantic relationship. He's likely pansexual.

He is (not surprisingly) an only child.

River really likes dogs. His family never had pets, so he really cherishes the rare time he gets with them. If he gets the chance to play with any kind of dog, even the sillier looking tiny ones, you'll see him become a very different person: happier, lighter, shameless and lighthearted.

Gadge is the son of Mauve and Thist Fairdust. He's the younger brother to Gear Fairdust. His father is a peacekeeper of high praises, and as such is often away from home. Gear is a dedicated masonry worker. Their mother Mauve is a hostile, straight arrow of a woman who stays at home and keeps things in order. Gadge often wonders how his parents, both so similar in their draconian disposition, came to fall in love the way they did. Their heavy-handed methods of parenting seemed to mold Gear into a coarse man, loving the ways of violence and domineering over others.

As such, Gear resolved to take on Gadge as an unwilling pupil in the ways of brawling. From the age of 8, Gear would ambush Gadge at random and beat him mercilessly to teach him toughness, preparedness, and not to trust those you assume are trustworthy. After years, Gadge advanced well beyond expected in the sport of battle, thereafter becoming a weapon crafter. He treasures his job, even if it exhausts him to the core at the end of the day. Even after the rough evenings when walking home, his brother has sprung up on him to attempt to draw blood.

Gadge's skills were soon recognized by others in the district, and it became apparent that he'd surpassed Gear, who had previously been the "golden boy". He was goaded into becoming a peacemaker instead, which he frequently declined with vigor. Something about the concept of physically striking and hurting people less powerful than him made him revolted.

Soon enough, he began dating a girl by the name of Meadow. Their relationship was intense; passionate. He was certain there'd never been another love like theirs. They dated for months. One afternoon, a disgruntled sixteen-year-old who'd failed in a brawl against Gadge set fire to the room he was working in while crafting axes. Barely escaping, he retained intense burns across his side and right thigh. It altered his skin, scars marring his flesh for the rest of his life. Upon seeing this, Meadow vomitted profusely and cut him out of her life. It thrust him into further violence, half of him resenting the love of the victory and half of him awakening a thirst for conquering.

His district ended up selecting him due to his vast array of skills with combat, weaponry, and tactical manuvering. They wanted to make a champion of him. And a large portion of him feels the twinge of a thrill by what's to come.

Growing up in one of the poorest districts, Sebastian is accustomed to hard work. After the death of his parents it fell on his shoulders to protect and provide for both him and his four younger siblings. This simply could not be accomplished through simple farming and labor, and he refused to allow his family to take tesserae. Therefore, he resorted to thievery.

It started out small. A picked pocket here, a fresh loaf of bread there, just enough to keep them alive. Then it grew into a job description. He made quite a name for himself, though he never gave the Peacekeepers enough to arrest him for. If you could pay the price, he'd take on any task, do your dirty work, gain information, steal something, you name it. While to many he proved useful, he also made his fair share of enemies, and it has been proven now that the latter far outweighed the former. He'd revealed one too many secrets, stolen one too many meals, and his own district was ready to be rid of him.

Pyra's demeanour drastically changed after the mining incident; leaving the once optimistic and fiery hard-worker fizzled out. Unresponsive to most, Pyra has detached herself from interpersonal relationships and can come across as cold and distant. Now a young woman of few words, Pyra is feared and disliked by a majority of her district after grisly rumours spread about the mining incident. The fear is warranted, Pyra being very erratic, violent and cagey when cornered. Blunt and straight to the point, Pyra doesn't dance around one's emotions. However, a light-handed sense of care and kindness for others ⁠— especially those who can't defend themselves ⁠— can still be found dimly lit.

The youngest of three within a hardy yet poor family; Pyra was raised in a wooden shack on the outskirts of District 12. Both of her parents were coal miners, barely scraping together the resources to feed and clothe their children like most mining families.

Apart from the rough and harsh day-to-day challenges, Pyra's early childhood was rather unassuming.

At the age of 15, Pyra's mother was unable to work within the mines anymore due to her lung problems. Without proper medical care and knowledge, the Haywood's were unaware of the effect the mining had on her lungs which left her ill. One less income led to further challenges, especially starvation, which became unbearable after a few weeks. Therefore, despite the regulation that citizens under the age of 18 were not permitted to enter the mines, Pyra disguised herself as her mother and took her place in the mines. A diligent and hard-worker, Pyra quickly became proficient with a pickaxe and the skills that were associated with mining.

Once opinionated and unafraid to speak her mind, Pyra was vocal about the treatment they were facing in comparison to other districts and especially the Capital. However, this all changed after the mining accident.

Pyra was working late in the mines one night when the weak support beams gave way, caving both herself and a handful of other miners inside. Considering the severity of the cave in, the families, including Pyra's, grieved the miners after two weeks. Pyra's mother passed a week later from lung disease, which left the remaining Haywoods mourning two deaths ⁠— or so they thought.

Almost six weeks had passed since the cave-in, with her brothers and other miners working tirelessly to clear the blockage and finally lay their dead to rest. Instead, they found Pyra, leaning up against the cave's walls with bodies littered around the small, dark space. Covered in claw marks and multiple stab wounds, Pyra had clearly been through a few altercations. Yet, the most daunting aspect of her appearance was the dried blood caking around her mouth and the scent of charred meat wafting.

Detained for questioning, Pyra became violent, scratching out one of the Peacekeeper's eyes. Considering the severity of the incident and the associated trauma, it was decided it would be sufficient for Pyra to undergo a public punishment of whipping.

Now, months have passed since her rescue, becoming a social pariah and being at the helm of many rumours of what truly happened. Pyra has become disliked by miner families who lost their loved ones during the said mining accident since she refuses to share of what happened. Her father and brothers have been unable to connect with Pyra, who has become increasingly distant and cold, refusing to speak to them as well, especially about how the hell she survived all that time.

Despite not knowing the details of what happened to their loved ones in the mining accident, the miner's families demanded repercussions for Pyra being the only way to leave that mine alive. Therefore, it was no surprise that Pyra was elected to become the chosen tribute for District 12 within the Hunger Games.

Like Pyra, her parents named her brothers after names associated with fire, with her brothers being named Blaze and Flare.

The back of his torso bears elfin scars that serve as mementos and reminders of the beatings he suffered. Clay doesn't show a particular averse behavior towards the scars, not caring enough to hide them if they are exposed.

True to his name, Clay is a person who molds his personality accordingly and wears his facade rather well. For the most part, Clay is far from modest, showing off when he needs to. He takes pride in his appearance and is one to comb his hair and smile while looking at his reflection in the mirror. Clay only finds time to do things that benefit him, discrediting things that give him little to none. At a glance, he seems outgoing and warm to most. In reality, he not bat an eye to people he deems incompetent or unreliable- not worth his time.

Clay presents himself as trustworthy, honest, and sincere; he has little to no problem winning over someone's heart if he wishes so. His true nature is somewhat manipulative- but only to the extent of actuating his goals. As a perfectionist, he finds pleasure in things as simple as waking up to see his tidy room. Clay hates being controlled and told what not to do.

As someone who wears a mask, he is quick to notice when other people are being insincere or dishonest.

Due to having motion sickness, Clay is used to travelling by foot. He has good footwork and is able to run significantly faster than the average human, even for prolonged time thanks to his great stamina reservoir. When not in a vehicle, the district 6 tribute has a good sense of balance and is able to utilize his herculean feet for combat with his good reflexes and quick reaction time. He depends on his body for combat as weapons aren't commonly found in his district.

history & misc.


One of the most prominent families in district 6, the Melchiors are looked up upon by many people of the place. At least, they were. Out of the many families creating and supplying spare parts for trains and hovercrafts, the Melchiors reigned supreme. They produced better working transportations by a significantly cheaper margin, something that the Capitol appreciated. Still, they lived in the extremely oppressed district 6, something they shouldn't have forgotten.

Aidan Melchior, Clay's father, let his wealth and power cloud his assessment. He forced himself to go on a voyage with one of the hovercrafts he had produced, even though it was illegal by Panem's law to travel between districts. Before he succeeded, though, the peacekeepers caught wind of what he was trying to do, torturing him on the spot. They Melchior family was banished from the industry, never again earning money from supplying their craft to the people of Panem. His father was a changed man from then on-the torture must've got to him.

Clay was just 12 when every day turned to the worst. His family had not their former power, money, and fame. By then, the people around his family that used to treat them well had shown their true colors. They did nothing to help his family- almost acting as if the Melchiors hadn't existed in the first place. The people that worked below Aidan loathed him and practically begged the peacekeepers to kill him, actively keeping track of what the family is doing and reporting it to them. Even worse, Aidan started to take out his frustration and anger on Clay, beating him up daily with whatever he could find. The 12-year old did nothing to defend himself; he just curled up and tried to stay sane while his body felt excruciating pain. Clay had learned that the world was an unforgiving place to powerless people. People like himself.

Clay vowed to join the Hunger Games and turn his life around. If he won, then he'd be welcomed in the Capitol and everything the world had to offer-riches, power, fame. If he lost, then he'd be granted an escape from the hell he lives. He took three tesserae a year not only to support himself and his family but also to up his chances of joining the annual roulette of life and death- the Hunger Games. He'd fail to the reaping every year, also failing each time to muster his courage up and volunteer. He knew he wasn't ready-- yet. He killed his usually indifferent, cold, sad persona and birthed new ones. Personas that the public liked. Clay grew up to be quite the lady-killer with more than above average looks, and he also had the tongue to support his charming demeanor. He became an escort and practically rebuilt the connections his father had, this time for himself. Still, it wasn't enough. With his links broadened, he didn't have any means to gain any real power over people yet.

Reaping for the Quarter Quell.

"I fucking volunteer! Me, Clay Melchior!" Clay knew better than to use immodest language in public, but adrenaline overwhelmed him as it took him over 5 years to have the confidence to volunteer.

Some people snickered, some people were in disbelief, others were laughing, most didn't care as long as it wasn't them. But all of them knew him. The boy whose family is now but a shell to their former glory. The charming adolescent. The boy whose life now exists to serve other people. They chose him to be their tribute in the special edition of the Hunger Games.

ellie was born to bijou wright and epidote keenworth, the younger sister to her brother of 5 years superior, velvet wright. ellie grew up in the fanciful city of district 1. she tended to live under the shadow of her older, much more accomplished brother during her years at the combat academy, illegally training to be a career tribute. her family, wealthy furriers of the easter district 1, could easily get away with this as many other families of the richer districts, like 2 and 4, because of their wealth.
when velvet graduated from the academy at 18 years old, he went on to work in the fur trade with her father to take over the wright fur trade after her father retired. ellie and her brother had not only been groomed throughout the combat academy to volunteer for the games, but they had also been groomed to become successful business owners for when they returned from the games, as it was expected. unsurprisingly, the legendary velvet wright won the games five years ago, at the same age ellie was- 17. ellie was determined to get a spot in the games to finally prove to her family and her classmates that she was just as good as her brother, a champion, who now spend his days managing a fur trade empire and living the lush life of the victors. he was celebrated, but now it was ellie's turn. no more, why can't you be as great as velvet? or, did you see what velvet did yesterday? wow, you must be so lucky to have velvet wright as your brother.
during her years at the academy, she was a quiet girl, always shown up by her brother. there were perks to being his younger sister, she had connections with the older kids who would sneak her into the big-kid parties and whatnot. when her brother left the academy, ellie was next in line as the popular kid. she quickly gained more friends and her house was the party spot. her parents hardly cared what she did on her friday nights, so long as she scheduled the cleaning service to come the next morning.
regarding ellie's more personal life, she only had one really close friend, who couldn't be more different from her. topaz hardfall. she was cold and calculated and reminded ellie right from wrong. ellie tended to get into trouble as she was an easy pushover, but topaz reeled her in, showed her the reality. however, topaz couldn't reel her in when it came to relationships. ellie bounced from boy to boy every other month. no, she dumped flash last month. this month it's copper. oh, didn't she have a thing with trinket for a while? although she didn't like to admit it, she was obsessed with filling her nights with good times and equally as good-looking boys.
ellie's lack of resistance to the games stemmed from many reasons. one, it was expected of her as a career tribute. it wasn't surprising that she was voted as the chosen tribute from her district- everyone knows who the careers are, and its obvious they would pick one of the best careers. two, she wasn't necessarily looking forward to working with her brother as joint furriers of a single business because of their tension. three, she wanted the glory, but most importantly, the riches and parties that come from winning the games. sure, the lavish district 1 parties were, well, fantastical, but they were nothing compared to the victor's parties and gifts. ellie didn't want to spend the rest of her life in her brother's shadow, always the younger sister. ellie knew it wouldn't be a joint business when her parents retired, but velvet, unintentionally, would always push ellie out of the spotlight. it was always velvet, and she wanted more. ever since she was put into the combat academy, as many district 1 youths were, she knew what her destiny was- and that was in the games. she would bring honor to her family, proving to be just as worthy as her brother. her family did love her, of course, but they had high expectations for ellie and velvet as well. velvet, a successful furrier and graduate at the top of his class at the academy. and now it was ellie's time. it was her turn to bring victory for herself, but more importantly, for her family, and for her district.
it was easy to volunteer. her district expected it from her.
besides, how could she settle with the riches she had when there was so much more that awaited the victor?

ellie always took a liking to knives as her weapon of choice. while her brother jasper preferred blunt force and his own fist, she prefers the silent, delicate art of knife throwing. as a career, she isn't scared to kill- especially not, as a daughter of great furriers, killing is second nature, though she doesn't like to admit it. her knives are an extension of her limbs, and reflect the opposite of ellie herself. knives are quiet, ellie is confident. knives are delicate, ellie is all over the place. both can be deadly.

ellie's mentor is velvet himself. more reserved and mature, velvet is the epitome of focus. as careers, the two are both overly cocky and will do anything to get what they want- even if it isn't necessarily the smartest decision. unfortunately, velvet and ellie are a "act now, think later" sort of bunch, which can come to bite them later. velvet wants a victory for ellie just as bad as she herself does. two victors from a single family from district 1 would be a great tale, a legacy of two siblings who won their own fame, not just from their parent's exotic fur trade.
