  Our stories occur in the bustling city of Sapporo, where summers are mild and winters are wonderland. The grid-like streets are a source of comfort to the many of the foreigners who live or visit the area, while for the locals it's a convenience they appreciate. Unsurprisingly, many gaijin have made their home here, the mix of culture enough to satiate a thirst for adventure and ease homesickness.
  
  

  blame shift

  When the sun sets and people have the urge to unwind, there are many options to accomodate your wishes. Susukino is the local equivalent of Tokyo's Shinjuku, though the first businesses that come to mind aren't exactly of the most appropriate nature. Fortunately, those looking for something more along the lines of music will be pleased to learn that it also sports a thriving underground scene, with many livehouses hosting local acts.
  
  One of the more popular homebrews is 'blame shift', a rock band still trying to find their identity in the ever-shifting music scene. On online forums, they've created quite a buzz, although it has less to do with their music and more with the band's most recent addition to the team: a pink-haired ikemen capturing the audience's hearts with his looks and voice.
  
  Not ones to be deterred by the rather shallow reaction, they've decided to take the unexpected popularity in stride. They hope to get a new CD out by the end of the season, riding the wave of people's curiosity before it inevitably gets replaced by the newest fad.
  
  

  pups and cups

  Unsurprisingly, many cafes dot the landscape as people flock to them in hopes of finding something to chase away the city's chill. At Pups and Cups, they do more than warm your body - they warm your heart with their cuddly canine friends. In an effort to raise awareness about the local shelter and adoption center, the cafe usually has two ready-for-adoption dogs available for a week so that they might find a good home.

  Gozu is one of the two demon generals that guard the gates of hell, bearing the head of an ox. He is one of the many animal-headed oni that serve the Great King Enma. Upon entering hell, Gozu and Mezu are the first two demons you meet. They are amongst the most powerful within his employ and the chief torturers of the wicked. Should anyone escape hell, they are the ones tasked to drag them back.

  Legends speak of Gozu as an extremely powerful being, though the exact powers vary depending on who you ask. However, in sheer brute force it's difficult to deny that his physical strength is close to no equal. He needs no weapons or armor to fight. Some people say he has the power to move mountains, though he has neither confirmed nor denied the accusation.
  
  He does admit, however, that the power he uses is not just his own. Without his mask, Gozu is unable to cross realms, which he needs to do to take back to hell those who've escaped. At the moment, King Enma has bound the abilities so he's unable to attain majority of the power accessible to him if he'd not been contracted by a human. But he is noticeably much stronger when fighting with the ox mask on, even with its capabilities nerfed.
  
  Alongside his superior strength is tough skin that lesser blades will find difficult to cut through. And when metal manages to pierce through, his rapid regeneration will often heal the wound before he feels it. Much of Gozu's power lies in his physical traits, so he's someone you'll want to send to the frontline rather than skulk in the shadows.
  
  While physically it's difficult to find fault in Gozu, he has no other weapon other than his body... and his brain to an extent. Yes, he could certainly learn to shoot with a bow to add some distance to his repertoire, but what's the point when you've got built-in armor and stamina to boot? Any magical abilities typically associated with Ayakashi are non-existent with Gozu, though he does claim to have some of them if King Enma hadn't nerfed his mask.

  At first meeting, Gozu will often have his half-starved ox head on, scaring the daylights out of anyone as he speaks in a voice better suited for the bowels of hell. Then again, that is his home, so that might just be normal for him. He does admit that wearing the mask lends him the power of his King, but it's rare he's actually needed it. Outside pranks and duties, he isn't particularly fond of donning it.
  
  Like most oni, he doesn't really care much for his appearance, though most corporeal troubles like bed hair or mud and dirt don't affect him. Truthfully, when he's in his usual state, the only particularly intimidating thing about Gozu is his size. Though his ears and unnaturally fit physique are points of interest, people tend to fixate on the fact he's around two meters tall.
  
  Gozu's outfit is rather lightly armored with many parts exposed, but what piques people's curiosity is the vial around his neck. He often states that it's Akito's blood; most aren't sure if he's joking or not, because even around his human he says that he drew it during one of the times Akito got injured.

  Gozu's relationship with his human is one riddled with worrying trends and inappropriate humor, mostly due to the oni's troublesome personality, though Akito himself is not entirely blameless either. When Gozu was first summoned to partner with him, he'd initially tried to scare the then teenaged-Akito with his full hell's warden garb. Until now, he continues to prank Akito and the people around him, although the former has since gotten used to his strange and occasionally cruel sense of humor. That being said, him choosing Akito was born of necessity rather than choice, as few have the power to bind an Ayakashi of his caliber.

  Gozu holds little to no interest in having a wish granted; joining the search for the Ground Cherry Lantern was simple curiosity. Having born witness to several iterations of Sakura Earth Tree, he wanted to see what it was like to be a participant instead of a simple observer. If he does find it, he would probably wish for something silly, like an automatic radar for hell escapees.

  Despite having seen the worst of humanity, Gozu doesn't believe them to be a bad race. Rather, he's perplexed by the puzzle of how humans could be so different from each other. Two people could've lived through the same circumstances, yet they reacted differently to those identical situations. He finds it fascinating that they're ruled by emotion just as much as they are by instinct and logic, which is a direct contrast to him who's able to shut off his emotions with the donning of a mask.

  Gozu is a strange oni, to put it lightly. He has a mischief streak a kilometer wide, splashed liberally with well-hidden malice. He's not cruel by choice; he's simply designed this way as his primary occupation and duty is to be a torturer in hell. As an individual, he's far more relaxed than one would expect from one of the Great King Enma's generals, typically not participating any more than necessary in Akito's onmyouji tasks. He's very laidback and tends to let most transgressions pass the moment it happens. He's honestly very difficult to offend, but neither does he find many lines that can't be crossed. In many ways, his social skills are similar to that of a child still learning what should and shouldn't be done.
  
  In contrast with his work at Akito's side, Gozu takes his duties as King Enma's general very seriously. Each escaped hell denizen is a score against his pride, and he will stop at nothing to bring them back. Beneath his lackadaisical attitude is a ruthlessness that will stomp anything in its way, whether they be friend or foe. The entire incident with Wukong is still something that leaves a bad taste in his mouth; he's not exactly the best at letting go of the few grudges he holds.
  
  More than anything else, Gozu is a creature of instinct, governed primarily by a need to entertain himself and satisfy his curiosity. It's his entire reason for joining the search for the Ground Cherry Lantern. This makes him prone to following simple urges and whims, much to the chagrin of his partner. He doesn't immediately realize the repercussions of his actions, creating problems for those around him. He is undeniably selfish, but it's a result of leading a primarily solitary life rather than an inherent personality issue. Frankly, he's not sure if he even has much of a personality in the first place; slipping off the ox mask he always wears makes him feel as if he's trying on a different one for a change.

  Gozu doesn't remember much about his beginnings. It simply feels as if when he came to be, he was already surrounded by a menagerie of the agonized wicked and animal-headed demons who were his comrades. Truthfully, he doesn't really mind this job, though it does get tedious crushing the souls of the damned beneath his feet day after day, year after year. The times he had to leave hell were few and far in between, with one of them being a big fat failure as said escapee managed to become immortal thanks to his carelessness.
  
  Most would expect hell's warden to be distrustful of the human race, but on the contrary, Gozu finds them perplexing. He finds it interesting how the same species can reach the pinnacle of greatness yet also end up at the end of his soldering iron. He doesn't view them as inherently bad, just strange. The ritual of the Ground Seed Lantern in particular always piqued his curiosity, and the wishes they made. Most of their partnered Ayakashi made wishes he would've expected of their species, but the humans' desires could range from something selfish and destructive to something so altruistic King Enma would praise them. It was that very contradictory nature that spurred him on to find a human when the Chikyu ki began to show signs of withering away once again.
  
  The search for a human who was strong enough to bond with him was no easy task. He's accidentally turned a couple of his old partners into Wasuremono, both sides thinking they were ready and reality proving differently. Quite frankly, he was reluctant to consider bonding with Akito, though many of the other Ayakashi and Onmyouji spoke highly of his capabilities. Too many times he'd been introduced to a prospect, only to turn them into shells of their former selves. However, Akito's desire to succeed resonated with something in the him; he'd fully known the risks but threw himself into a contract with the oni.
  
  Their journey together so far has been... interesting, for lack of a better word. The fact he'd yet to show signs of becoming Wasuremono was already very good by Gozu's book. But more than that, it seemed they matched in more than just their spiritual ability. They were a strange pair of friends of a sort, each's cynical sense of humor managing to reach the other. Whatever wish Akito has, he'd be curious to know, but the two don't really speak of more personal matters together.

  Gozu's a big fan of food, though he doesn't exactly really need to eat. Honestly, if you just wanna hang with him, offer to treat him to something he hasn't tried yet and he'll be your buddy for a long while. It hardly matters whether or not it tastes good, as long as it's a novel experience for him. He's pretty much eaten the same thing all his life (hint: it's not food and it can be found in hell), so anything new is great for him, whether or not he comes to regret that choice later.

  While Gozu finds he has a natural knack for most weapons, he doesn't really enjoy using them. He'd much prefer using his fists and feet to beat something up. However, any long-range weapons are pretty much hopeless in his hands. He finds it annoying how he can over pull most bows, or how much finesse is require to throw a shuriken. He's simply ill-suited to anything that requires minute control. This extends past weapons; it's why calligraphy or most if any of the arts are pretty much off-limits unless they think of destroyed instruments are a masterpiece.

  Gozu has no issue with people making jabs at him or about his animal-headed comrades. But when someone demeans the character of his King, expect to be manhandled.
  
  Very few people have properly won Gozu's respect, and the Great King Enma sits at the very top. While most would expect the ruler of the underworld to be some sort of cruel dictator ala Disney's Hades, they'd be wrong in this regard. The true form the Enma Daiou is that of Jizo Bosatsu, loved everywhere for he is a kind and compassionate protector of travelers and children.

I was thinking of using these two for a roleplay in the (hopefully) near future. The first because I'll be able to keep track of all the rp information much more efficiently. The second because I like how ancient it feels and the written language of all the races in my rp looks similar to Japanese.

Unlike the original model it's based off of, the colors of Ayumu's avatar are much more monochromatic. He's opted for black and white detailed with metallic gold. Rather than the gundam green most are accustomed to, the eyes are warm yellow to match the rest of his color scheme.

Ayumu's avatar comes with its own sound effects. Every movement is accompanied with a matching sound. Simply moving an arm produces a soft whirring sound not unlike a machine coming to life, which suits the aesthetic he went for.

If for some bizarre reason the helmet of his avatar came off, one will see what seems to be a simplified version of his face. He stands out even more due to his height; at 182cm, he's unusually tall for the typical Japanese teenager. He finds both an excellent weapon for both his profession and the world. Tools work better when taken care of, and Ayumu takes these words to heart. He carries himself with perfect posture, maintains the weight his manager dictates and does his best to take care of his health. Were this an alternate reality wherein he didn't use his image for a living, the black-haired male wouldn't even bother.

It is with chagrin he admits that his body type is on the slender side, having difficulty developing any sort of muscle. Unlike most of the models of Japanese descent, Ayumu can't really pull off the pretty flower boy look. This is a bit of touchy point with Ayumu, but he works out to maintain the little muscle he gained during her training days. It's not his favorite thing in the world, but his personal mantra keeps him in the habit of logging a few hours every week in the gym. If his academics suffer as a result, it's not really his fault... or so he tells himself.

Ayumu's one of the few students who wears their uniform properly. While he personally couldn't care less about how he dressed, his manager ingrained in him that a model couldn't go about looking like a slob. He also has extraordinarily soft hands. He moisturizes often, another habit that was drilled into him by his manager. Apparently it would be disgusting if he had reptillian hands and had to shake hands with other people. He concedes to both points.

When lounging at home, Ayumu wears glasses. Outside it, he wears contacts, usually clear so that his dark brown irises are visible. He'll often put on colored contact lenses for jobs, as the clients find it more 'interesting'. Unfortunately, he has to wet his eyes as they're on the dry side. The only thing he loves more than himself is Gunpla. But in the realm of people, no one else comes close. He takes great pride in himself for pulling himself and his family out of the mess they were in. And while some of that arrogance is deserved, he's gone over and beyond the limit. It's lucky he doesn't care enough about other people to bother them to talk about his greatness. Otherwise, someone probably would have stitched his mouth shut. He enjoys talking about his accomplishments or not-so-subtly referencing things he'd done when conversing with others, but he doesn't seek others out just to brag.

Life has taught Ayumu to care only about things he can control. He'll spend time on things that either interest him or he finds useful. Nothing else. Unfortunately, people seem to be the exception that proves the rule. He'd rather struggle on his own than ask for help, although it would be wrong to assume it's all due to pride. Considering his ego, that's a reasonable assumption. But for this particular individual, a good half of it's due to habit. With most of his accomplishments being single-handed efforts, he's simply used to the idea that no one will come to his aid. On the other side of the coin, while he won't actively help others, when requested, he'll take action. Unfortunately, expect to laud his greatness when you do ask for his assistance.

Despite the ego that occupies the entire school and then some, he's surprisingly pragmatic and practical. If you need someone to budget the class treasury or create a reasonable timetable, Ayumu's your guy. His decisions are always founded on the realities of his current circumstances; it's rare that he'll be carried by emotion. He hates the thought of losing control on the tight leash he has on his feelings. After seeing the breakdown his brother suffered, he refuses to let himself fall to the same depths. Whenever he feels himself reaching any extremity of emotion, he pauses and re-assesses the situation. He's one of those people who'll solve physical problems with no issue, but the moment it relates to his emotional well-being, he'll shut down and escape.

Anyone who looks beyond the wall of vanity can see that majority of it is a deflection tool and his obsession with gunpla a form of escapism. While he's quick to brag about his accomplishments as an individual and how he helped his family financially, he remains mum on the subject of family itself. It's obvious... if one cares to listen and ask. Fortunately for Ayumu, few are. [/div] [div class=section] [div class=title] [div class=star] [/div] history [/div] Ayumu's life is one riddled with tragedy. He enjoys talking about how he pulled himself out of the rut, but leaves many important details that aren't obvious at first glance.

Currently, Ayumu's family consists of a brother 12 years older than him, and a sister younger by two years. His parents passed away in a car accident when he was 10. Since then, he's been under the "guardianship" of his older brother. The validity of that statement is highly questionable, though that wasn't the case for the first year that arrangement.

Before that tragedy, life as a member of the Saito family was perfectly normal. Ayumu and his younger sister didn't particularly excel in school, but Naoki was the pride of the family, on track to become his department's valedictorian. Ayumu in particular hero-worshipped his elder brother. Their parents were normal; both worked and spent most of their time away from home, but it wasn't as if they'd been left neglected.

Then the car accident happened. As one might expect, the death of Ayumu's parents was a great shock to him and his siblings. The problem grew when the investigators and insurance agents realized that they had no close relatives. Or any relative really, who would be willing to take them in. It was then that Naoki accepted the responsibility of taking care of his younger siblings. The only other alternative was giving Ayumu and Emi to the state, but for Naoki, that hadn't been an option he was willing to take.

The first year went on fine. The grief was intense, but somehow, they persevered. It looked as if they would eventually acclimate to their new version normalcy.

Then Naoki broke down.

In retrospect, there were several signs that had led up to it. But too wrapped up in his own struggles, Ayumu hadn't realized anything was wrong. He thought his brother was on break, and the two would even spend time together binge-watching Gundam or playing video games. But then that wore off when he realized the house was a pigsty, his sister hated going home, and having food on the table was not a thing anymore apparently. He had his real wake-up call when he played with his bro for two weeks straight and didn't realize he was absent for so long. It wasn't until his friends came over that they saw and showed him the mess his life had become.

Ayumu knew his first order of business was to find a job, as he had a bad feeling about the state of his family's finances. As luck would have it, he'd been approached several times on his commutes by talent agencies. He chose the biggest company and signed, and started out as a pre-teen's model. At the same time, he recruited his younger sister to his side and the two of them divvied up the house chores between them. Ayumu continued to make attempts to reach his brother, but by the time he was 15, he knew he had to accept the reality that he'd lost his brother in a very real way.

His career exploded when he finally grew into the lanky frame of his tweens. The combination of his life circumstances and his successful job in the industry forced Ayumu to grow up quickly. Too quickly, some might say. But it was either grow up, or fall into the same pit that Naoki fell into. And Ayumu definitely did not want to join his brother down there.

Ayumu chose Fumizuki Academy due to its proximity; he hadn't bothered to research beforehand the kind of environment it was. He paid dearly for it. He'd initially landed in Class F, but studying for a transfer exam allowed him to place in Class E. With academics not being his strong point and simply not having enough time to study, he chose to simply maintain his position.
