(horray, aster finally got a post out)

The Halloween "dinner" (though they call it a dinner, everyone knew better than to think of it as an ordinary day. The food and festivities were enough to rival any major holiday and Hogwarts had outdone itself once again with their classic floating jack-o-lantern heads and dripping wax candles.) was more of a party and Keith never missed out on being the center of any jamboree.

He had arrived fashionably late, easily mixing into the crowds with teasing bites to the back of exposed necks, all in good claim that he was a vampire here to suck your blood. He was met with laughter and teasing and all was fun so long as he held the spotlight.

Of course, that spotlight was something one had to fight for. A few birds had told him the Silver Trio were going to full out with their costumes and Keith found it almost sad that they had to use looks and glamor to snatch the attention they sought. With someone like Mila in their year, he wondered how long they could hold out for. She was one of the few who effortlessly commanded all eyes on her and having her dolled up only enhanced the magic in her veela blood.

Last year she had went as a pretty, glittery fairy. This year was a surprise. Keith wondered what the Hufflepuff had up her sleeve this time.

Belladonna Coben

A lot of people mistakenly made the assumption that Belladonna's favorite day of the year was her birthday, given her narcissistic and proud nature. Those people would be wrong. Her birthday was important, just as important as all the other holidays, but no day could ever hope on beating the magic that was Halloween. It was the best, and most important, night of the entire year. With the orange decoration filling the castle, the warm glow of the autumn leaves brushing the windows as the students prepared for the annual Halloween feast, the children running around in their costumes, and the Slytherins preparing for their grand entrance.

The Slytherins were a glamorous bunch, who all held a special love for the dramatic and over-the-top gestures. For them, All Hallow's eve was a miracle. Halloween was the night in which they were allowed to throw on their most extravagant costumes and dazzle everyone with their extreme gestures, not to mention they could also brag about their costumes to everyone willing (or forced) to listen. Belladonna and her friends had spent months planning for this occasion, almost an entire year dedicated to finding good costumes, materials, a designer, and taking secret catwalk and dancing classes just to make sure they looked better than any other student in the school. Belladonna had even skipped the last few hours of class in order to get ready, and her effort could clearly be seen in her heavy, dark make up.

Halloween was not the only reason Belladonna was happy. After being attacked by dementors in the forbidden forest, Sebastian had brought her to the castle and taken her to the infirmary, effectively saving her life. He'd explained how he'd saved her with no help from anyone else, a statement she believed despite the fact the others present at the forest later told her what Sebastian said was not entirely true. What he'd said in the forest struck her hard. He was right, she was betraying her friends, and only to get Penelope's affections. While recovering from the dementor attack, Belladonna made sure to apologise to her friend for being such a horrible traitor. She promised to take his side more often, a promise she had held rather well for some time. Every time Sebastian found himself in an argument with someone else (especially the Gryffindors), Belladonna made sure to take his side and support him no matter what he did or said. Her relationship with the others might've suffered a bit, but her relationship with Sebastian had greatly improved. Her friendship was healing, and she was glad to see their group wouldn't fall apart anytime soon.

Despite the fact always siding with Seb didn't make her especially popular with Penelope's friends, their relationship hadn't suffered much. Their flirting was growing stronger and stronger with each day, and Belladonna was ready to take the next step. Tonight, during the Hallow's Eve celebrations, Belladonna was planning on asking Penelope to be her girlfriend. Then she would bring her upstairs, sneak her into the Slytherin common room (or just bring her in freely, it wasn't like anyone would oppose her) and finally sleep with her. It was the perfect romantic plan, or so she thought.

Since she'd left the fight early, Belladonna had missed out on a lot of details from what happened in the forest. She knew of the green flashing lights, since she was able to see them through the infirmary window, but was clueless as to what, or who, caused the lights. It wasn't the first time the sky turned green, and it usually meant bad news in the form of a dark lord, but the others hadn't been very generous with the information they'd given her. They were usually vague, sometimes getting nervous when Belladonna interrogated them too hard. All she was that they didn't know anything about the green light either, the dragon flew away, and nothing else happened. While she was sure they were keeping something away from her (the dragon had to be placed there by someone, right?) she was satisfied with what little she had. After all, the dragon had left. And with it, the only thing keeping the woods from being her safe space during the full moons.

Her werewolf problems had also diminished. Yes, she still had to transform, but not having a dragon in the forest and the fact that students were now even more afraid to go into the woods after their little stunt meant she was free to do as she pleased. Sofia's return had also helped. Her friend had arrived late into the term because of her grandmother's death, but was eager to help Bella with any werewolf related issues as soon as she arrived to Hogwarts. Belladonna was more than glad to have Sofia as a friend, to have someone other than Emma who she could trust with her secrets. Not to mention, she arrived for the best day of the year. Which meant the Silver Trio could unleash this year's costume.

Belladonna currently found herself in the Slytherin common room, focusing on her costume's last few touches. This year, they'd decided to go as dark fairies, an excuse to use dark colors and gothic clothing without people thinking they were repeating their vampire costume from their fourth year- which would be a disaster. Recycling costumes? The horror. The Slytherin girl checked her reflection in the large mirror, running her hands through her white hair and adjusting her the neckline of her dress before setting her eyes on her neck, where her moon necklace used to hang.

She hadn't been paying attention to it, not with the stress of the Halloween preparations, her classes, and trying to woo Penelope. She'd decided to leave it behind, since it didn't match with the rest of her look. While she felt weird without it, she knew she could live without it. She was almost a grown woman, who could tell the stage of the moon without having to use a necklace like a child. Yes, she hadn't transformed that month, but she credited that to the new lycantrophy potions she'd been testing out. Maybe they caused a delay in the transformations. She didn't care much about the reason. All she cared about was not letting anything get in the way of enjoying the best night of the year.

Besides, nothing could ruin Halloween.

Right?

MILA SUTHERLAND

hufflepuff common room | open | excited

Mila knelt on a cushion that she'd brought down from her bed to soften the impact of the Common Room's wooden floor on her knees. It would have been much easier to draw the curtains around her bed and get ready there, but she craved the atmosphere of the public preparations. Besides, it was encouraging to have a little cluster of younger students clamouring for her help, approval, and attention.
"Tie my tie, Mila?"
"You look so lovely, Mila."
"Do you need your lipstick, Mila?"
She'd never manipulated or used people before, to her knowledge. But just this once, she'd charmed a handful of the second-year boys to sit and hand her her makeup and brushes when needed, as though she was a surgeon and they were her team of nurses and assistants. If she was to be mocked for what she was, she might as well get something out of it every once in a while. Was it really so wrong?
The lipstick. Yes, she did need the lipstick: it was the finishing touch. She accepted it from the boy -- Milo? That rang a bell. -- with a smile and a wink, and leant forward to get a good view of her mouth in the mirror she'd had propped up against the wall. Red was not her usual colour, but perhaps she could start wearing it more often, because to her surprise, it looked quite... nice. Especially paired with the smokey eyes, the fluttering eyelashes, the matching blood-red nails. When she straightened up with a triumphant smile, the compliments rained again.
Finally, she attended to them. She tied ties, zipped up dresses, fastened jewellery, ran her fingers through hair, flicked eyeliner. At last she rose to her feet, assisted by a multitude of hands that were more hinderance than help. Oh, well. It was a sweet gesture.
"You look so different with that hair, Mila."
It was true, she did. A simple charm really, although it'd taken her a couple of tries (and a day where her hair had been streaked with indigo) to get right. Long, sleek, black, elegant. It'd been a shock at first but she was beginning to get used to it and, she had to admit, it was making her feel a little more confident. She wasn't Mila tonight, she was her costume. It was liberating.
Mila adored Halloween. Her brother Marcus adored it, there was always a ball to go to, and he'd spend countless hours labouring over his costume. Well, he'd spend countless hours watching Mila labour over his costume while he dropped criticism after criticism. The memory brought back a faint smile as she ran a hand through her new raven hair, fluffing it up a little. Usually she kept to brighter costumes: her past outfits had included Glinda the Good, Rapunzel, and a generic fairy. Glitter, pink, lace, petticoats. Not today. It was the Halloween before the war, where she'd worn the fairy costume that had influenced her new outfit: while tapping glitter gently onto Mila's cheekbones, her best friend Christopher had laughed and remarked that she should try something new.
"Something they won't expect, Mimi."
So she'd picked Morticia Addams. It had occurred to her that some people would have never seen the film from which she'd drawn the costume, but that didn't matter. The dress was so different from her regular aesthetic. Figure hugging, black, with a plunging neckline and a hem that trailed along the floor. It was fun and it was something new. She could always be a princess next year.
"We'll wait to see if Eli and Pen come down, and then we'll go. Wouldn't want to be late." Mila remarked, perching on the arm of a chair which was immediately sat in. The former blonde laughed and tossed her hair, settling into a fleeting conversation about costumes (which was best -- apart from hers -- or scariest), the price of glitter, and Muggle horror movies. Merlin, she loved Halloween.

Sofia Park // Slytherin // Silver Trio // Mood: Pissed

Here she is, the final piece of the silver trio has finally returned to Hogwarts. At the beginning of the school year many returning students wandered why Sofia wasn’t there, it wasn’t long before the wild rumours began spreading through the cold corridors. The rumours were stupid and ridiculous ranging from Sofia being pregnant all the way up to her joining the death eaters but in actual fact Sofia was in a deep state of mourning. At the beginning of the summer holidays Sofia’s dearest Grandmother passed away and this absolutely destroyed the young woman, she felt as if her heart had been ripped out and thrown to the vulchers. For the whole summer all the 17 year old did was mourn, she rarely left her room, cried herself to sleep and begged her Grandma to come back to her. Sofia’s parents had to battle with their daugther all summer just to get food and water into her it was a very stressful summer for the entire Park family as Sofia’s parents wrote to Hogwarts telling them of their circumstances and they agreed that it would be best for Sofia to join the term later then the majority of students.

However, throughout her time Sofia had a first year sending her letters about what was going on at school. The first year wrote to her once a week in return for money that they could spend at Honeydukes. The events at Hogwarts seemed quite dramatic while Sofia was away but something made Sofia so angry that she just had to return to Hogwarts. Her bestfriend Belladonna’s loyalty to the Silver trio seemed to be wavering for some Hufflepuff. Belladonna betrayed Sebastian and that was the final straw for Sofia as announced that she was returning to Hogwarts the very next day.

So here she was, Sofia Park had finally returned to Hogwarts sitting in her beloved common room watching her housemates excitement build for the Halloween ball. They were rushing around making final details to their costumes but Sofia sat on the leather sofa in front of the fire her arms crossed as she was deep in thought. How could Bella betray their friendship for some Hufflepuff, it was ridiculous and Sofia wasn’t going to settle for it. She’d make sure that this disgusting Hufflepuff had a one way trip to the mental hospital when Sofia was done with her, even the thought of torturing that bitch made Sofia crack a smile. But first Sofia needed information on the girl and so she’d sent her trusted first year to find out every detail on this girl, it wouldn’t be long before Sofia knew almost everything about this girl and she was going to exploit it for everything that it was worth. This wasn’t only punishment for the poor Hufflepuff but punishment for Bella as she needed to be taught a lesson that you never betray those who’ve always been there for you for someone you barely know.

For the mean time Sofia would have to wait. She had to wait to confront Belladonna for her betrayal and wait to start torturing this Hufflepuff. Sofia got up from the leather couch and walked into her dorm where she sat at her dressing table and begun to to get ready for the most spectacular night in Hogwarts annual calendar. The silver trio had agreed to go as dark fairies and there was no way Sofia was going to look anything but red carpet ready.

★·.·´¯`·.·★ EMMA ★·.·´¯`·.·★
Halloween was a lot of fun. As the iconic film Mean Girls (one of Emma's private favourites, although if you asked her she'd claim it was something seen as more intellectual) states: Halloween is the one night a year where girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it. Emma was not planning to let this opportunity slip through her fingers. Busy with her studies (not to mention late night adventures, and not all related to the forest), Emma had found herself short on time and had had to order her costume online before getting her mother to mail it to her at school. It was the perfect excuse really-- no, it hadn't looked so short in the picture, and oh no, she must've ordered the 'sexy' option instead of the regular! Ah well, too late to change.
So the majority of her costume had come shop bought from the Muggle world, but her faux fangs had been a genius purchase. They were magic, and they were incredibly convincing: she'd stopped multiple times to check them in the mirror, tried every smile and bared them. It was fun to not be herself for a while. As she'd headed down from the Ravenclaw dormitory, she'd been fascinated by the various costumes she'd passed, from your classic werewolves to more creative pop culture references that she was sure only a handful of students at the party would understand. Daring, but original, she liked that. In a wave of good spirits she'd dropped compliment after compliment, the first few tentative, but soon they were rolling off of her tongue and brightening the faces of her peers, many of whom she wasn't sure she'd ever even seen before. She'd be arriving at the party alone, but that really wasn't that uncommon. Emma Hinchcliff was one of those people who knew everyone, and was known by everyone, but could count her close friends on the fingers of one hand. But that was how she liked it. Besides, when your close friends were like hers, you didn't need many. In fact, if she had multiple Keiths, she might actually have died by now.
With this thought coaxing a smile to her face once again, Emma entered the Hall and paused near the doorway to marvel at the decorations and take in the atmosphere. It was still fairly early but people were beginning to arrive, and clusters of friends were already dotted about. The hum of chatter filled the air. As she looked around, she couldn't spot many people she'd planned to talk to, but the night was still young-- she imagined people like Bella were still fussing over every intricate detail of their costume. People did seem to take Halloween seriously.
Just as she was about to resign herself to grabbing a drink and waiting a while, Emma spotted a familiar face weaving between the party-goers and made a beeline (well, a graceful and very casual beeline-- play it cool, Em) towards him.
"Anderson." She greeted, reaching out to gently grasp the boy's forearm as he was facing the opposite way. "Am I glad to see you." For the moment, she hadn't seemed to notice their choice of outfits.

The touch to the arm had him turning but Keith knew the owner of the all-too-familiar voice before he even saw her.

"Emma," he said, smile in his voice. His fangs peeked out just enough to lightly prod against his lower lip. If it weren't for his prepossessing, inherited features (thank merlin his parents were hot), he would've looked silly. But with some good old Anderson charm, Keith had managed to pull off the classic cliche vampire look into something almost sexy.

He waggled his brows at Emma, smirking as he replied, "I'm certain. A pleasure to all, am I right?" he laughed, making the crowd of peers around him roll his eyes. Some sniggering and others agreeing in genuine good-nature.

"Someone's dressed to impressed," Keith commented, sizing Emma up in an approving glance. He gave her a thumbs up before moving to guess what she was. Given the red cape and black articles of clothing... perhaps she was a wizard? A dark superhero?

"Did you two intend to come wearing couple costumes?" one of the girls around him asked. Abigail Hart, a fifth year dressed as a pointy-eared pixie, waved a finger at both Emma and Keith.

"Ohhhh," Keith exclaimed, nodding as the costume now made sense. "Looks like we had the same thoughts, Blue." Abigail's claim was neither denied nor approved but merely avoided. He didn't seem to think much on it.

"Seen Aiv and the others yet?"

He flinched when the spell ended, free to display the recoil from the pain magic brought still since he was alone in his room. Ever since he had pushed it with the dementors, using magic felt like he was burning his insides. It was getting better - thankfully - and flare-ups only happened when he used magic for too long or did something far too hard too quickly. In the beginning, it had been any magic and he felt like hot knives were slicing through his veins. Not wanting to bother anyone with his troubles - or get anyone else in trouble because he certainly hadn't done anything right trying to stop all of them going to find the dragon in the forest and Merlin forbid he bring attention to the fact that Keith fucking Anderson kept the blasted dragon eggs instead of sending them to a dragon sanctuary or something like any sane person would have - he hadn't bothered to go to the infirmary to seek any sort of help and simply did his best to not do magic. Which was kind of stupid in hindsight, what with being at a school of magic but he was stubborn and it was working.

He tossed his wand to his bed with the need to be free of it. He mindlessly rubbed his palm as he stared at his work, worrying the only area that had been part of the flare-up that was rubbable to both ease the pain and as a show of how nervous he was.

Before him as an outfit that looked out of place in the middle of Hogwarts but, seeing as it was Halloween, that was understandable. It wasn't something that would probably be recognizable.

He had the idea to go as Merlin but not just the Merlin out of their history books or old drawings or paintings. He wanted to go as Merlin from muggle media, specifically from the one with actor Sam Neill in it.

Now, granted, he had taken some liberties with the specific outfit he was pulling: using feathers from mythical creatures to decorate the coat collar, going with a green piece that looked more like dragon scales than woven fabric, and enchanting the blue outer piece to appear to have the night sky infused with the fabric upon closer inspection, galaxies and the Milky Way included, simply because he could.

The only thing now was actually putting it on and going down to the feast. He was confident in his craftsmanship but he wasn't sure what any of the other students would think.

There was a knock on his door and he looked over, calling out, "Come in."

One of the Seventh Year Ravenclaws poked his head in, a cheep vampire caplet on his shoulders, fake blood dripping from the corners of his lips on clearly painted pale skin. "Hey. We were wondering if-whoa."

Phyrun bristled as the Seventh Year stepped into his room fully, eyes on the costume still displayed. The Seventh Year grinned, baring fake vampire teeth, and called out, "Hey guys. Come check out what Dalca made."

A cluster of other students were suddenly in his room and he realized that a few of them weren't even from his house as he was quickly pushed away from the costume he had put so much time and effort and magic into. Fear was trying to choke him as the original Seventh Year Ravenclaw chortled. He wasn't one to get bullied but there were still a lingering few that found ways to be harsh when they felt like it.

It would see this was one such time as the original Seventh Year Ravenclaw turned his gaze on Phyrun, the look sharp and spelling trouble. "What even is this?"

"This your costume, Dalca?" A Seventh Year Hufflepuff was carefully carding her fingers over the blue fabric. She had noticed the stars he had painstakingly enchanted into the fabric.

"This piece of scraps?" A Seventh Year Gryffindor commented from the depths of the crowd.

There were several bouts of laughter, the original Seventh Year Ravenclaw the loudest. "What do you think he's going as? A beggar or a hag?"

That got another bout of laughter that was louder than the last and Phyrun felt his face heat up. He took solace in the fact that there were a few in the group that were frowning at the others, the Seventh Year Hufflepuff being one of them, as well as another Seventh Year Gryffindor and two Ravenclaw. Still...

"Are you quite done," he cut through, his words cold. The original Seventh Year Ravenclaw glared at him, the look almost promising murder if Phyrun hadn't trusted that he could take the other down if needed. "I will have you know I was practicing different spells and their affects on attire. And if you are indeed done, then I must ask you to leave this room so that I may head down to the feast and keep an eye on the house as Prefect."

"You're not going to wear this?" the Seventh Year Hufflepuff asked, sounding affronted. By what, Phyrun was sure, but her face seemed to translate that she was disappointed he wouldn't. The three others that had not laughed were looking at the piece in more detail, shocked expressions on their faces when they understood her words. Their gazes were on him in an instant.

"You put so much effort into this," one of the two Seventh Year Ravenclaws commented, his hand still buried in the coat's collar. "Surely you're going to showcase this at the feast."

Phyrun dully noted that the four that seemed to support his craftsmanship and idea were all wearing well crafted costumes themselves. The Gryffindor was wearing something that spoke heavily of muggle influence but that could have been a misinterpretation, seeing as the magical world and muggle world weren't overly different when it came to myths and costumes.

"Why would I do that?" he asked in a monotone voice, aware of the crowd watching him. It hurt to say the words he needed to say. He certainly wasn't going to wear his costume now. "It's just some practice scraps."

The glee that filled the rest of the group was sickening but he pretended it didn't affect him as they all started to finally file out. The group of four lingered, the Hufflepuff turning to him with the others.

"You should wear it," she encouraged, the others nodding. "Ignore them and wear it. It's very well done, well crafted-"

"And I liked that movie," the Gryffindor interjected, his eyes alight in glee despite the heavy expression he wore. "I didn't think anyone else would pull from muggle fantasy like that and it looks so cool magicked like that." The Gryffindor's gaze went back to the outfit in longing.

"You could wear it."

The words echoed in his head oddly and it wasn't till he realized the surprise and glee that was slowly spreading across the Gryffindor's expression was because he had spoken those words.

"Seriously?"

Phyrun shrugged. "It would be a shame to not see it worn."

"Then why don't you wear it?" the other Ravenclaw questioned, her hands gingerly wrapping around the other Ravenclaw's arm.

He gave her a flat look. "Because if higher years reacted like that, I'm not about to prove whether or not the rest of the school is as stupid as they were."

"I can seriously wear it?" the Gryffindor verified, gaze on the outfit again. "Will it even fit me?"

Phyrun shrugged. "Probably. I can enchant the size easily enough if it doesn't fit properly."

The Hufflepuff smacked the Gryffindor's arm, hissing his name, but Phyrun waved her off. "Let him wear it. I'll just go down in my uniform with my badge like I had planned had I not finished it on time anyways."

The others looked dejected at that but he didn't care. The Gryffindor certainly looked more the part than he would have at least, filling out the costume and looking so much like Sam Neill, it was rather scary. The Gryffindor did give him a bear hug before the group left and Phyrun found a few gold Galleons on his bed when he was left alone. Amused, he shook his head and pockets the money before picking up his Prefect's badge. At least he would be able to see Rachel's costume. She had been planning on doing Peter Pan since before the school year had started. Knowing her, she would have figured out how to pull off floating around and trailing a faux pixie dust.

Slipping his wand into an inner pocket, he closed his door and felt the protection spells fall into place.

Penelope Hottle
In Transit to the Dining Hall | Evening | Thrilled

To say that Penelope's last few days had been eventful would have been an understatement. From dragon eggs to flirting, there was never a dull moment. Well, besides her history of magic class, which she often slept through. It was weird having such a huge secret that her peers didn't know. What would they say if they heard about the dragon eggs that Hagrid was taking care of? It made her feel sort of special, but at the same time it was difficult to keep it to herself. She'd had to lie about the events of the night when it came up in conversation with Belladonna, which made her feel a tiny bit guilty. Speaking of the blonde, their flirtationship had grown since the little escapade. The Hufflepuff found herself getting butterflies every time the Slytherin girl entered a room. However, there was always a little nagging voice in the back of her head that reminded her that their friends were incompatible. Penelope hated Sebastian's guts, a feeling that was probably mutual. She hadn't really seen Sofia much, but she'd caught the dark haired girl glaring at her more than once, so she doubted they'd be getting to know each other over lunch any time soon. As for her own friends, she knew they weren't fond of Bella, especially with how often she was siding with Blutmond nowadays. However, Halloween was coming up, so maybe they could set their differences aside for a night and celebrate together.

Penelope could feel the build up of excitement within the student body during the days leading up to Halloween. Costumes were a popular topic of conversation. Packages would come in every now and then by owl with pieces of costumes that had been ordered in advance from catalogs or sent in by families. It was everyone's favorite holiday. She heard that muggles would often go house to house and receive candy from their neighbors. It was an odd little tradition that she had always wanted to take part in when she was younger, but her parents told her that their neighborhood didn't participate in all that; instead, they threw their own parties and had feasts. Nowadays, she cared less about the candy aspect of the holiday and more about dressing up. Her costume wasn't school-appropriate, but neither were most of them. The professors let it slide because they wanted to celebrate rather than deal with dress coding a bunch of teenagers.

The brunette, currently, was sitting in front of a large mirror in her room. She gingerly applied a dark red lipstick, only slightly overdrawing her lips. It gave them a pout-y effect that she found rather cute. Her makeup wasn't anything too wild. She had done all the basics: foundation, concealer, contour, highlight, bronzer, liner, mascara, and, of course, lipstick. Her outfit was a bit on the scandalous side, but she felt like it fit her general aesthetic. She wore high waisted, ripped, black jeans and a top that looked a bit more like lingerie than a real top. On top of that, she wore a long, red hood. It went all the way to the floor and had a little tie at the neck. It draped over her shoulders and, because she was doing her makeup, the hood was down. It was her own twist on the classic European fairy tale. She inspected her work in the mirror and couldn't help but smile. Pen was proud of her work. She thought her costume was adorable and she was excited to see what everyone else was wearing.

Penelope picked up her small, woven basket and made her way downstairs to the common room. She was surprised to see some girl sitting with a crowd of boys around her. Her brows furrowed in confusion, trying to figure out who the hell the ravenette was. It was on the tip of her tongue, but she just couldn't seem to come up with it. Huh. Strange. She walked to the other side of the room and leaned against the wall, waiting for Eli and Mila. It felt strange being the first one ready to go. Her eyes scanned the common room. Hadn't Mila said she was getting ready down here? Despite her best efforts, Penny couldn't find that familiar blonde anywhere. Then an idea came into her head: maybe her friends had already gone to the dining hall. Duh, she thought to herself before making her way out of the room and down towards the dining hall. Unbeknownst to her, Mila had been sitting only a few yards from her.

Hufflepuff Common Room

Eli stoked the fire, watching the sparks flicker around the eggs with fascination. Ever since they had returned from their misadventure in the forest (his adventure quota was definitely filled up for the moment -he probably couldn’t say the same for Keith though. His Gryffindor friend was likely raring to go on the next one) the dragon eggs had taken up a large portion of his mind. The day after their return saw him barely managing to drag himself out of bed just in time for lunch and a truly terrible potions lesson that made him wish he had been eaten by the dragon. He had run into Hagrid after that and before he knew it he was at the gamekeeper’s hut and holding the dragon eggs once again. The Hufflepuff had been going down there every spare moment he had since.

They were incredible. Of all the things on their adventure into the Forbidden Forest, seeing the dragon was probably the best thing ever. He was sad that they had to put it out of it’s misery, but he figured the best way to pay it back would be to care for it’s eggs properly -and figure out who was keeping it there and what the hell that hooded stranger’s deal was. The latter was a bit of a dead end at the moment but the former... Eli sighed happily as he watched over the eggs.

“Right beauts aren’t they?” Hagrid said gruffly, entering the hut with Fang yapping at his heels. The half giant had regaled Eli with tales of dragons he had seen before much to the Hufflepuffs delight, and had rather secretively revealed he might have done something like this before maybe when Eli had asked him about his expertise. Meanwhile Eli’s side of the dorm was littered with all the books on dragons he could find and to the amusement of his dorm mates he frequently fell asleep with one on his face.

“Hey, shouldn’t ya be gettin’ ready for the Halloween feast?”
“Oh shoot.”

Freshly showered and dressed in a somber suit -white shirt and black everything else- that hung stiffly and was tattered around the edges for that Halloween feel, Eli stared in the mirror, fixing the black tie around his neck so it hung perfectly messily. His hair hung limp and in character, but he wasn’t too sure about how to do the makeup. Not to mention, he didn't have any. Oh well, he’d ask one of his housemates downstairs to help him. But for now, he pointed his wand at the old glove he had laid out on his dresser and transfigured it to look like a real life disembodied hand, albeit with streaks of ‘blood’ running it in places. With a few more quick charms the hand balanced itself on it’s fingers and started to move. Grinning happily at his work, Eli knelt down by his bed to stroke the back of it gently and then placed his own hand on the bed, unable to hold back a laugh at the ticklish feeling as it skittered up his arm and wandered back and forth over his shoulders.
"Hey Thing," he said aloud to it. "You ready?"

The scene downstairs was utter chaos, Hufflepuffs of all years running around and getting ready and tripping over tails and cloaks and various limbs. A passing group of first year girls screamed at the hand on his shoulder before giggling at their own shock and pushing each other around. He recognised a few of them and a brief explanation and talk of their respective costumes later and they had pulled him down to do his make up, talking about contouring and blending and... glitter? Ten minutes later he was laughing at his own reflection, they had done a pretty good job, making his face seem dark and broody (though the effect was spoiled by him laughing) and his cheekbones sallow and sharp. There was also a healthy sprinkling of glitter. On his face, hair, shoulders and even on Thing. Inevitable really, he wondered if anyone could survive this night completely glitter free. He knew he hadn't ever. Thanking the girls, he stood up to look for his two best friends. He just caught sight of what he thought was Pene leaving and frowned, pouting. Maybe she hadn't seen him. As for Mila... he spotted a bunch of star struck lower years and shook his head in amusement before heading on over. Mila might have looked completely different in her new get up, but it was easy enough to guess where she was based on the people around her.

"Hey Mila!" He greeted her cheerfully with his signature bear hug - and effectively transferring some of his glitter to her. "You look great!" He took a step back to look over her costume appreciatively. "Oh could you do my hair too? I couldn't figure out the spell." Thing had wandered atop his head and he lifted it gently back onto his shoulder so that Mila could turn his still brown hair black before holding out his arm to help her to her feet. "I saw Pene heading out a few seconds ago. She must not have recognised you. You look crazy different."

MILA 'THE VEELA' SUTHERLAND
(MORTICIA ADDAMS)

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Though the girl had been so close that Mila could have called out to her at regular volume and been heard by her, Penelope ended up slipping away without linking up with her at all. This was really Mila's own fault: she'd become caught up in conversation with Nathan, a third year who had painted the nails on er left hand for her earlier, and hadn't had the heart to shut him down so she could engage with Penny instead. Consequently, Penelope had left the Common Room without even seeing her, and Mila had immediately felt bad, fearing that her friend would think she'd been left behind. She resolved to grab Eli at the earliest possible convenience so they could chase after the brunette and hopefully enter the party as a trio.
Eli's appearance was both perfectly timed and a convenient way to escape Nathan's well-meaning clutches. With an apologetic smile to the younger boy, she allowed herself to be enveloped in Eli's hug and warmly reciprocated it.
"Thankyou, so do you!" She exclaimed, clapping her hands together in glee as she took in her friend's costume. They'd dressed to compliment one another and, even if she (and her little cluster of friends) did say so herself, they were really pulling it off. When her gaze fell on Thing, she squealed and added: "Eli, you genius, that's marvellous. You're so clever." With a quick nod, she pulled out her wand and obliged, murmuring the simple charm as softly as she could so she could listen to what her friend was saying. Eli's words brought the smile back to her face and she carefully ran a hand over her raven hair, and then over Eli's newly transformed do. "You really think so? I was hoping I did. Come on, if we hurry we might still be able to catch her. I don't want her thinking we've ditched her!"
If Eli wasn't finished with his preparations he'd have to settle, because Mila wasted no time in grabbing him by one of his (real) hands and dragging him towards the door. A few stragglers from the group she'd attracted followed (or at least conveniently left for the party at the same time as Mila), but they kept their distance: the trio was forming, and nobody was enough of a fool to think that they could infiltrate it.
Running in heels proved to be quite the feat, but with the steadying help of Eli's arm, Mila managed it without breaking a shoe or a bone. However it was not an easy task and Mila began to regret her choice of footwear very quickly. That, and she was having to hold up the hem of her dress to keep herself or Eli from tripping over it. Mercifully, as they rounded a corner, Mila caught a glimpse of the red cloak she'd seen Penelope sporting in the Common Room.
"Pen! Penelope Hottle!" Mila called, as they caught up. She released Eli's arm at long last with a sheepish smile and a silent apology for the fact that she might've dug her nails into him a little during the pursuit. Reaching up to fix her hair and then down to adjust her dress, she gave her best friend the once over and raised her eyebrows. "Pen, I knew you were going to look amazing, but somehow you look even better than I expected. I'm sure you're going to turn a certain somebody's head." A mischievous smile appeared with the comment, as she poised herself ready to duck behind Eli.

Belladonna Coben
"I swear, kid, if you mess up my back or my costume you will wish you'd never been born," Belladonna muttered, staring at her reflection in the large mirror that had been set up in the common room for the Halloween festivities. Behind her, was a scrawny 4th year who Bella had forced to help with her costume. While she'd been able to assemble her costume mostly on her own, and with the help from some of the best wizarding world designers money could buy, she still needed some extra help with her wings. They had to be perfect, no dark fairy was complete without a set of dark wings, after all. She couldn't be seen with cheap wings attached to her back like a peasant, no. The wings needed to move, slowly and elegantly. Belladonna wasn't content with simply dressing as a fairy, she had to be a fairy. Thus, she'd counted on the help with one of the best fourth year students to cast the spell that would make the wings move. Smart enough not to mess it up, and young enough to let himself be bossed around by a sixth-year student. He was perfect.

It was no easy task. The spell was easy, but the kid was smart enough to know he didn't want to be on her bad side, so there was an enormous amount of pressure for the relatively simple task. The kid held up the costume's wings with one hand, and pointed his wand with the other. With sweat running down his pale face, and eyes so wide Belladonna could swear helping her was his boggart, he cast the spell. Making the wands stick to her dress and, most importantly, start to flutter.

"I could kiss you right now!" Belladonna squealed, turning sideways to see her wings moving. "Sofia and Seb are going to go crazy over this. Wait, where is Sofia, anyways?" she asked, scanning the common room for her friend. Weird. She could've sworn she'd seen her minutes ago, perhaps she'd gone to their room to get ready?

Hiking up the sides of her dress, Belladonna made her way towards the girl's dorm. While this night had been planned for Pene, she wanted to spend as much time with Sofia. The girl had been absent for the first few months of the school year, and Belladonna was one of the few people who knew why. She, along with Sofia's other friends, had received the news of her grandmother's death. Belladonna hadn't spoken much to Sofia's grandmother, but she knew how important the old woman was to her friend. She couldn't blame her for not wanting to come back to Hogwarts after such a horrible tragedy, and she could only blame herself for not doing much in order to help her with the grieving process other than send a few flowers every now and then. What she could do, was make sure her friend could enjoy her first day back in the castle.

"Sofia, there you are! Looking as good as always," the Slytherin girl exclaimed upon reaching the room and finding her friend dressing for the Halloween festivities. She felt no shame watching her friend change, as they had seen each other naked more than their lovers. "Look! I got this kid do make my wings move like a real fairy! Isn't that cute? Honestly, if this doesn't win over Penelope then nothing will. Let's just hope these girls are easy to take off once I've brought her back here. I could perform the spell on you, if you'd like. With our costumes and Seb's costume, we will be the envy of every sad, pathetic bastard in this school."

Keith's charms were not wasted on Emma, and for a moment the girl who prided herself on being calm and collected at all times was quiet, dazed. In those few moment it was unclear what was going through the brunette's mind, and as she quickly regained herself to laugh at his comments, it was unlikely that anybody would ever know.
"A pleasure to all? Somebody's feeling confident tonight, hm?" The smirk remained on Emma's face as she jokingly planted her hands on her hips, inviting Keith and the others to check out her costume. Dressed to impress? She certainly hoped so. With another smirk and a warm laugh, she bared her faux fangs and brushed off the question as well. Though somehow she couldn't help but (albeit childishly) feel put out that there was no big deal to be made from the coincidence. That thought was swiftly erased by the use of her nickname and she flashed a smile as she replied to Abigail without taking her eyes off of her friend. "I certainly didn't, although who knows? Anderson might've stalked my plans and copied me."
Emma frowned and shook her head, moving to stand at Keith's side so she could scan the room with keen eyes.
"Afraid not: I only just arrived." She explained somewhat apologetically as she continued to search. "Still touching up their costumes, I suppose. Can't wait to see them. Our friends are quite the sight, usually."

A groan loudly left Aivree’s mouth, her head falling limp, her shoulders slouching as she gave up all resistant to the few girls she knew in the Gryffindor Chambers. This was what she got for trying to get into the spirit of things. Halloween was a fun muggle holiday she remembered celebrating when she was a child. At least for the most part. Dressing up, getting candy. It was one of those things that you took friends and made memories. But as she got older it became quite apparent it had become about a different thing altogether. No more was it for the candy, or perhaps it was. The candy being another person which you sucked face with and brought back to your chambers. THe joys of getting older.

Worst part was Aivree often wondered what that would be like--but like hell she would go and voice such a thing. Already she regretted trying to dress up. Clementine, a pretty blonde that Aivree had known since they joined Hogwarts saw Aivree conservative cat costume and threw it away stating ‘Aiv, honey I am going to help get you noticed today.’ Despite Aivrees loud cursing, and trying to escape Clementine had gotten her wish.

“Why the hell did I let you do this to me.” Aivree hissed crossing her arms over her chest embarrassed.

“Because no one can say no to me, not even scary little dragon girl.” Clementine laughed winking at her. Her face and outfit put together better than other girls Aivree had seen in the party thus far. She dressed up as some kind of fairy or perhaps she was a fairy Queen, Aivree wasn’t completely sure but she knew that Clementine was going to get people's attention. But that was the thing, everyone tried to stand out as much as possible at Halloween. In theory she was going to just blend in. Perhaps with the pushy girls help Aivree would blend in better.

Looking down to her outfit she sighed shaking her head. Wearing all black was the only part of her costume that didn’t make her grimace. Deep cut in the neckline dipping well below what Aivree was used to and cuts up the sides of the shirt. It was tight pleather that accented Aiv’s curves in all the right places. Splash red lips, a spell to change the colour of Aiv’s eye colour to that of a bright green Aivree hardly felt like herself. Stepping into the party Aivree tried her best to not fall. Heels? Yeah this was going to be interesting. No matter though. This was a challenge and Aivree liked challenges.

For the most part.

Running her tongue across her slightly altered teeth, sharp like a cats she searched the room filled with guests for a friend to talk too. To hang out with. There had to be someone here already she was late to the party.

While looking for her friends Aivree started to wonder where the time went. After the events that happened in the Forsaken Forest time went by quickly. Aivree had filled her journal with sketches and notes about the magnificent dragon they had seen live and die before their very eyes. The egg that they had gathered--and the hooded man. It was still shrouded in mystery. One Aivree had been thinking more about then she wanted to admit.

At the thought of her friends she noticed Keith standing off to the side with Emma chatting like nothing seemed to have happened a few weeks ago.

“Hope I don’t step on anybody's tail for sneaking in.” Aivree spoke walking up to the two classmates crossing her arms over her chest watching the very confident Keith and beautiful Emma. “I’m late but only because I couldn’t get away from Clementine and her make up.” Aivree chuckled lightly running a hand threw her short hair that had been tousled even more than normal. “Nice costumes.”

Alex looked in the mirror. He looked stupid, he wore an all green costume with additional muscles which looked very unrealistic. A friend had said to him that he should buy this outfit for All Hallow’s eve. It was a muggle superhero costume of the Hulk. Alex had never heard of it, but his friend had convinced him to buy it. Alex couldn’t help but laugh at himself for how stupid he looked. He didn’t have enough time to make another costume, but he came up with a plan. He had found some green paint and when he looked trough his muggle clothing he had found an old pair of ripped jeans. He turned the jeans into purple, like the color the pants of the costume had and threw the bottle of green paint all over himself. When he was covered in the green paint he put the purple pants on and looked in the mirror.

Halloween had never been one of Alex most favorite holidays. When he was still a child he didn’t liked that people were dressing up ridiculously and all the sweets he got made him sick. Especially after the incident he started to create a hate for Halloween because many people were dressing up as werewolves. However, last years Halloween had been one of the most exciting nights he ever had. The party had Hogwarts had been amazing and he had a great time with his friends.

Alex looked in the mirror again. He was now better looking, and his own muscles were more realistic then the costume’s. Alex was ready to head to the great hall for the festivities. He was looking forwards to have a blast of a night with his friends. He knew Emma and Mila would be there, and maybe Phyrun. Since the end of last year Alexander had a crush on Phyrun. The Ravenclaw was one year above him and Alex wasn’t sure what struck him, but he had been admiring the guy from afar. Alex had been too shy to ask Phyrun to do something together, maybe tonight was the night.

As he left his room he directly noticed Phyrun standing. Luckily for Alex, you couldn’t see his red cheeks because of the green paint he was covered in. Alex opted for the fasted route out of the common room, right through the middle. People looked weird at him since not many were getting the reference, he himself was even not getting the full reference. However some smiled at him, clearly they knew this Hulk guy.

The great hall was already crowed when he entered, he looked around and noticed some friends standing. One of them was Emma, a very good friend of him. He walked over at them and smiled “Emma!” he said enthusiastically and then turned towards Keith and Aivree “Hey guys! You look great, and Phyrun is still in the common room, I saw him there”

To his surprise, the Common Room was still full of students, some milling about, others finishing off last minute costume preparations. A Fifth Year boy crossed the room, body painted green with purple pants and Phyrun was taken aback.

He didn't know every student in his house very well but he knew each name, which face went with which name, and where they came from - be it a wizarding or muggle home - and he was fairly certain the Fifth Year - he wasn't positive, what with only catching a glimpse of the Fifth Year and what with the body paint, but he was pretty confident that had been Alexander Merwijck - hadn't come from a home that would have allowed him access to muggle media.

Heck, he was surprised he even knew what Merwijck was dressed as, what with the only reference being the green body clothed only in purple pants.

Not that it was a bad look for the Fifth Year, Phyrun quietly mused, having seen the strong and rather appealing body of the younger. He couldn't place if Merwijck was part of the Quidditch team or did something else to require such a fit body. He did wonder at whose idea it had been for said Fifth Year to dress up as the Hulk, nonetheless.

Maybe a friend?

He blinked, drawing himself out of his pondering to register that there were more than just Ravenclaws in the common room, reminding him he actually had a place to be at a specific time. With a quick and silent tempus, he started for the exit.

He could ponder about other students' costumes and the ideas behind them later. He had promised his sister that they would meet up for the walk to the Great Hall before he had to go find the other Ravenclaw prefects as well as the Head Boy and Head Girl to make sure he wasn't actually needed anywhere.

They had originally said he had the night free to participate in the fun events but Phyrun knew that plans never stayed quite that solid. He would see about meeting up with Caden Petrovic first.

A body collided with his and instinct had him reaching to pin the body against him and go for his wand at the same time. The familiar magic stilled the latter movement, drawing his attention to the sprite of a 12 year old that was his sister. She beamed up at him, face aglow as her hair - whether actually cut pixie short or spelled that way, he wasn't sure - attempted to defied gravity by standing every which way it could. It was a bit wilder than the original character, much as he had edged away from the original costume for his.

Her outfit, though, was as identical to the one Robin Williams wore in Hook, barring the fact that it was on a 12-year-old and she was trailing gold pixie dust.

"Hey Ray," he greeted warmly, arms tight around her as she seemed to vibrate against him.

The vibrating suddenly stopped as she narrowed her eyes. He couldn't tell if she was trying to intimidate him or pout. "Why aren't you in costume?"

"I am in costume," he countered without thought, He never needed to think when it came to misdirecting Rachel's attention. She didn't need to be bothered by his issues. Not tonight and not ever, if he could help it. "I'm going as a Hogwarts Prefect."

"But you are a Prefect," she all but whined. Now she really was pouting and the fond smile on his lips was involuntary. "You said that your costume was going to be really cool."

"And it is cool," he countered, the words joyous, lighthearted. "Don't I make a cool Prefect?"

"Well, yes-"

"So doesn't that mean I've got on a really cool costume?"

"I guess, but-"

"Besides, this way you can pretend to whisk me away from my woes to Neverland to be a Lost Boy instead of a stuck up Prefect."

It worked, in a way, as her attention was turned towards her outfit rather than his. There was a glint in her eye, though, that left him nervous. He wasn't certain the evasion had worked as he had hoped as she took a step back out of his arms. Still, she gave a sort of skip backwards that didn't actually come back to the ground. Instead, she floated backwards trailing gold pixie dust that vanished after a moment, nearly running into a few students heading towards the Great Hall. He wasn't sure she noticed.

"I finally figured out the flying thing," she triumphantly stated. "It took a bit of work but I got it."

Again, it was more like she was floating than actually flying as she kicked off the wall she bounded into. He caught her hand without hesitation, stilling her as if she were a balloon. There wasn't much weight to her touch beyond the initial inertia against his hand from stopping her. It was more like she neutralized gravity.

"You're being careful, right?" he asked softly, suddenly very aware of the other students in the hallway. None were paying them enough attention to realize what was up.

Her expression turned somber and she nodded. "Of course. I literally had a friend cast a feather light charm on me and another one we found that did the similar thing. The two together created this."

He helped her get her feet back on the ground. He felt her weight return and knew she was lying. She truly could have been flying if she had wanted to, had she not been limited by the fact that she was in a very public space full of people that didn't know her secret like he did.

He still envied her connection to magic despite his enjoyment of spell creation without it.

He gave her hand a squeeze, offering a soft smile. "Then I guess it's about time Peter Pan made a debut in the Great Hall."

She giggled, her thoughts as light as she was once more as her feet left the floor. He kept ahold of her hand, tugging her gently along as the tips of her shoes ghosted the floor stones.

He was glad she was overjoyed in her costume. A part of him wished he had been strong enough to wear his but a much larger part was just glad to walk pass other students and know their stares were out of awe for Rachel's costume rather than out of cruel enjoyment from his.

The Great Hall seemed far more crowded than normal when they finally arrived. Phyrun was certain that was because most everyone was dressed up in something more than the school robes. He should have asked his sister for a tie so that he could be something other than a Ravenclaw Prefect.

Pulling out his wand, he tapped his tie and house badge, both changing with the simple spell. His tie kept the same pattern but the colors changed to purple and a yellow gold. The badge shifted, changing to the same colors while depicting a dragon just for kicks. He thought it looked like an actual school badge with how the design came out and was very pleased that it had worked. Tucking his wand away, he caught Rachel grinning at him. He returned it. "What?"

"Better," was her single word reply.

He chuckled, pulling her to his side so he can wrap his arm around her shoulders. "Squirt," he teased, though he did feel much better about not being in his Merlin outfit now that he wasn't completely in his school uniform.

"Beanpole," she retorted with the same gleeful ease.

Sofia Park // Dorm Room > Great // Bella fancries1 fancries1 // Still pissed.

Sofia was almost ready, she just had to apply her signature red lip tint that she was rarely seen without. Sofia sat at the vanity table in a silk black dress with a large slit which exposed one of her legs. Sat on Sofia’s bed was the 1st year who’d been keeping her in the loop of all the events taking place at Hogwarts while she was grieving “Help my with my wings.” Sofia asks the first year as she gets up picking up the wings, well they weren’t really wings they were more the skeletal structure of wings as Sofia had them made specifically for the ball. The first year helped Sofia into them before sitting back down on her bed. “Aren’t you going to the dance?” Sofia asked her but she just shook her head too distracted by the array of sweets that Sofia had bought her as a thank you.

Sofia picked up her lip tint when Bella walked into the room clearly excited about tonight’s festivities as she went on about her wings. Sofia had to admit that her friend looked beautiful and with those black wings that had been charmed to move, Bella certainly was going to make a big impression when she entered the great hall. But Bella’s beauty was soon out of Sofia’s mind when she began to talk out the HufflePuff. Sofia looked at her best friend through her mirror while she applied her red lip tint “You’re bringing a Hufflepuff back to the Slytherin common room.” Sofia says her voice like ice as she gently applied the lip tint. “Do you realise you’ll be breaking a school rule but also the trust of fellow Slytherins? Bringing an outsider into our common room for nothing more then to satisfy your own lust.” Sofia had finished applying the lip tint and got up from her chair and faced Bella. “I’d think twice about your descision as I will not hesitate in telling Snape“

Sofia walked out of the dorm room her first year following her, she was seething with anger as she decided just to head to the party as she couldn’t even look at Bella at this moment. “Keep an eye on Bella and the Hufflepuff, if she heads towards the common room with the Hufflepuff you tell Snape immediately.” Sofia orders the first year as she power walks towards the great hall. The first year just nods as Sofia comes to the entrance of the hall walking straight in and heading for a drink. Arguing had really caused her throat to become dry.

"It's not confidence if it's the truth, honey," Keith winked, narcissistic replies at hand fully loaded like a gun on maximum ammo. His hand presses against his chest with another resting on his forehead in an overdramatic pose. He looks mock-woeful and opens his mouth to exclaim something exaggeratedly wounded at the accusation until Aivree shows up, stealing his words from his head and his breath from his lips.

"By Merlin's beard! TT is that you?" Keith goggles, mouth hanging at the transformation his tomboyish best friend had undergone. He never though he'd live the day to see her in a leather tight suit and were those heels?

Shock was replaced by embarrassment when he caught his own reaction and he laughed, concealing his surprise. "You look amazing, Aiv. If it weren't for your teeny size, I wouldn't have known it was you."

He chuckled as he rested his hand on her head, showing the height gap they shared even with her heels on. This made him smirk in teasing triumphant and the group was soon joined by Alex who was splattered from head to toe in green.

"Woah, what are you supposed to be? The boogie man?" Keith asked, tilting his head in puzzlement. Despite growing up in the muggle world, Keith was soon pulled out by his mother after his parents' divorce. He had never got into the Marvel series (LOL logically speaking, it didn't exist at that time yet?) and the only superheroes he knew of were Superman, Batman and Spiderman.

"Hey, have you guys chosen your partners for the Test of Courage yet?" he brought up abruptly as Alex was explaining the character he was dressed as, mind jumping as always. A familiar mass of blonde hair was spotted and without warning, Keith hooked an arm around their neck, pulling them into their circle with little hesitation.

The unfortunate victim, Caden Petrovic, chokes and stumbles to regain his footing. He's scowling when he does, looking annoyed when the question was directed at him as well.

"I think the correct question is 'Are you attending the Test of Courage', Anderson," he replied with all the iciness in his stone cold expression. A hand gingerly pinched at the fabric of Keith's sleeve and removes it from his being. He steps away and dusts away the invisible germs Keith has laid on him.

The Test of Courage was a new Halloween event which challenged students to go through a path which leads them through various fears and challenges. It wasn't a compulsory event and only those who had registered their names with the teachers were allowed to participate.

Caden, of course, had no plans to take part in such a silly activity. A waste of time, he thought, until he heard Keith chirp out.

"Oh no, I've already registered all our names for it so all that's left is deciding our partners!" He's grinning cheekily when Caden swerved, his face as dark as a storm.

"You did what?!"

"I wonder when Mila's going to reveal herself. She hasn't given us any hints on her costume yet," Keith mused, ignoring Caden's non-verbal threats.

"Anderson, you bastard," Caden's wand was drawn. That probably meant trouble. Keith was stupid but he wasn't that dumb to stay near an angry Ravenclaw prefect. (It was always the Ravenclaws too, he sighed.)

"Guys, let's go look for her. She's probably with Penny and Eli somewhere right?" He grinned, ushering Aivree and Emma away from the fuming blonde. "Okay, yeah, cool. See ya at the Test, Icy!"

It was probably luck that had him passing the group when he did. Rachel was eager to meet up with her friends and seeing as Phyrun didn't really have anyone he was eager to hang out with, tagged along as he kept an eye on the surrounding student body. He was a Prefect after all.

It was Anderson's voice that caught his attention, something about the Test of Courage making its way through the sea of noise. He gently pulled on Rachel's hand but she was already changing direction.

"Rachel," he spoke, pulling on her hand. He didn't want her to get mixed up in whatever Anderson was dragging people into.

"If you're going up against a dragon again, I want in," she countered, her voice muffled by magic so only he heard.

He gave her a sharp look. "No. You will stay with your friends out of harms way."

The look she sent him was flat and despite being interrupted, he knew she wasn't going away anytime soon.

Caden Petrovic moved, wand in hand, and it was only because he had seen the wand that he moved away from his sister to Anderson's group. The fact that it was Petrovic he was approaching was beneficial.

He wrapped his hand around the Ravenclaw's wrist, stopping any wand movement beyond what had already transpired. He firmly pressed Petrovic's wrist into the other's side, pinning the other Ravenclaw's arm to his side. Phyrun was careful to not harm the other, though. "You are supposed to be an example, Petrovic," he spoke loud enough for only the Ravenclaw to hear. "Do not fight Anderson for every stupid thing he does."

The hand which stops him makes him halt, but there was no real strength in his arm. His actions a mere reaction to the given stimuli. A very troublesome stimuli which, despite all the years of dealing with, was one Caden had never learned to calculate and expect.

Anderson was a problem he couldn't predict. A person he couldn't read, but that didn't mean the blonde lost all rationality like most fools when it came to the Gryffindor.

Already tired from the social interaction, the male stifled a sound. There was a brief look of hurt betrayal in his usual stoic visage when he looked eyes with Phyrun. His words were almost insulting.

"Have some faith, Dalca," Caden shrugged cooly, "You know we Ravenclaws don't fight."

His wand is waved, despite the distance Keith had put himself between them. A translucent spark of light leaves the tip of his pale wand, dancing in the air like harmless decorum but purposefully moving towards it's target.

"We calculate."

The light zigzags past two bodies, both Aivree's and Emma's.

"Determine."

It dives down low, staying at hip level as it nears its target.

"And execute."

Upon word, the spark of light makes contact with Keith's bottom. The flashes and disappears like a fire spark. Its near pale color made it near invisible to those unaware to the Ravenclaw's spell, but the result was shown to all.

A mighty yelp came from the Gryffindor as he jumped, holding his buttocks in a humorous way. The sudden sting and surprise would have to do as punishment for now. Across the room, his head whips angrily in the Ravenclaws' direction, glaring hurt daggers, despite well-deserving the pain.

Caden doesn't smile. He rarely does. But if Phyrun paid close enough attention, he would notice that the corners of his lips were pulled slightly higher than usual.

Penelope Hottle
Dining Hall| Surprised | Evening
"Pen! Penelope Hottle!"

The familiar voice made Little Red Riding Hood stop dead in her tracks. She whipped her head around, red hood dragging along, causing a breeze, and the biggest smile on her face. She could recognize that voice anywhere, but she was susprised to see the source. The brunette squinted at the figure, the gears in her head slowly turning. Putting the puzzle pieces together - the girl sounded like Mila and she was dragging Eli next to her - Penelope came to the realization that the girl was, actually, Mila. Her eyes lit up and she hastily walked towards the duo as to complete their trio. Her hands on her hips and the ends of her red lips curled up, she remarked, "Mila! I could hardly recognize you! You look so different- good different, obviously. You really went all out this year!"

Her gaze shifted to the tall boy next to her. "And you, Eli! Wow! You two are really a pair," she exclaimed, words full of surprise and excitement. She could definitely tell that the two costumes went together. They were a haunting couple, that much Penelope could tell. And the disembodied hand! "Merlin's beard, Eli! That's amazing," she complimented, eyes wide with amazement. Her friends were so clever. There was just one problem: Penelope had never seen The Addams Family. She completely missed the references. Unfortunately, the girl hardly ever consumed muggle media. She was getting better at it - she now understood the rivalry filled world of comic books, knew how to do the macarena, and listened to the Spice Girls. However, she had yet to be introduced to muggle Halloween movies. Pen simply thought her friends looked good and sort of scary in their costumes.

In a moment, her cheeks heated up and she swatted at Mila, which only ended up hitting Eli, but she doubted the weak movement would hurt her friend. "Hush," she said, a playful smile on her face. She was hoping that the costume would attract Bella's attention as she did feel the tiniest bit scandalous in it. Things had been, for the most part, been going well with the Slytherin gal, but she hoped tonight would grease the wheels a little. In a smooth movement, she placed herself between her two friends, locking arms with each of them. It felt like a natural things. "Let's go find our friends."

Making their way through various inter-mingling groups of students was a bit more difficult than it would've been on a normal day. As they walked, Penelope would make remarks about the people she saw. "Oh! Did you see Pamela Wolt? She's that shallow girl from that one movie, the, uhh, mean blonde? With the step brother?" She mentioned when they passed the plaid-clad girl, who was obviously Cher from Clueless. "I could hardly recognize Reggie Sanvol. I can't believe he could make his skin blue for the costume." Their classmates had really gone all out and Penelope was living for it. She casually wondered to herself if there was a wolf costume out there that she matched with or perhaps a woodcutter of some sort. "But... where's Keith? Or Aiv?" she asked her friends.

Before she could get an answer from her fellow Hufflepuffs, her ears were hit by the sound of Keith yelping and a shower of sparks. Well, that just about gave her the answer. "What did he get into now?" she asked aloud, half-laughing. She grinned as she half led, half dragged her friends across towards the vampire. Oh, vampires. Were they a couple costume? Was everyone in couple costumes? Should she have talked to someone about that? It was strange. "Keith!" She called out as soon as they were in an earshot. She soon saw Aiv, Emma, and Alex. She stared hard at Alex, knowing the name of his costume was on the tip of her tongue. Her eyes lit up. "The Hulk, right? From those comic books?" She was glad that her newfound comic book knowledge was coming in handy. She turned to Aivree and her mouth dropped. "Me-ow!" she remarked, impressed by the new look the Gryffindor was sporting. "We should sit down together- I'm starving for some of that pumpin cake." She remarked, turning her gaze to the crowds of students sitting down in the dining hall. On the surface, it seemed like she was searching for a space for them to sit down. In reality, she was using this moment as an excuse to search the crowds for a certain Slytherin girl she was expecting.

Belladonna Coben
Despite Sofia's cold tone, Belladonna paid no mind to her words at first. She couldn't possibly be mad she was bringing a Hufflepuff into the Slytherin common room, right? I was definitely against the rules, and the prefects would most likely be livid if they were to find out. But Sofia was her friend, her partner in crime. Belladonna simply chuckled as Sofia applied her red lipstick and threatened to call Snape, truly believing her friend was simply playing a joke on her or being sarcastic.

"Well, if you want to bother Snape's ghost you should've done so ages ago. This isn't the first time I've brought a Hufflepuff into our common room, darling," Belladonna mused, remembering the night she'd spent with Mila. "Trust me, you haven't lived until you've fucked a veela. The things they do in bed... honestly, even I can't bring myself to talk about it without blushing."

She'd expected a laugh in return, maybe even a witty reply. Instead, Sofia simply stood up and walked out of the room without even bothering to look at her. For the first time in many years, Belladonna found herself frozen, not knowing how to react to her best friend storming out on her. On Halloween, of all days! A part of her wanted to follow Sofia, to confront her on her odd behaviour. But she knew her chances of winning any confrontation against an angry Sofia were incredibly thin. Belladonna was ambitious, but not enough to believe she would be able to undo years of hatred against Hufflepuffs and blood traitors in one night. If Sofia wanted to be alone, then so be it. At least now Belladonna could focus on romancing Penelope, and not on having fun with her friends in the best night of the year.

Making her way back into the Slytherin common room, Belladonna noticed Seb was still nowhere to be seen. He was most likely still working on his costume in the boy's dorm room. She wished she could wait for Seb, only to salvage the dramatic group entrance they'd definitely hadn't planned for a month now. However, it was getting late. And Belladonna wanted to spend some time with Penelope before the test of courage began. With a sigh, Belladonna walked out of the common room. Making sure her proud smile would hide her disappointment.

While her entrance would've been greater with the rest of the Silver Trio, Belladonna's unwavering confidence remained. She walked slowly through the halls, making sure to always stay in the middle so the other students would be able to witness her costume in it's full glory. She reveled in the attention she received. With some students looking at with admiration, others with hate, and others with jealousy. Belladonna looked as regal as ever, and she was damned proud of it. The negative interaction with Sofia was erased from her mind, as well as the worry of the full moon affecting her night. With her classmate's attention, and the anticipation of finally being able to sleep with Penelope, the Slytherin Queen truly felt like she was on the top of the world.

The Dining Hall was as crowded as usual, with students talking, eating and dancing everywhere she looked. She had no idea what Penelope's costume was, so her only hope of finding the Hufflepuff girl was to ask for help- much to Belladonna's horror. Fortunately, she was able to find a second year Hufflepuff student rather quickly, dressed in a black werewolf costume and talking to a younger Ravenclaw.

"Hey, you!" Belladonna exclaimed, making her way towards the child who now looked terrified to be the focus of Belladonna Coben. "You know Penelope Hottle, right? I need you to tell me what costume she's wearing, and where she might be."

"S-she's the Little Red Riding Hood. She's probably with her friends, I think I saw Mila with a Morticia Addams costume. Oh! And I heard Keith came as a vampire, but I'm not sure," the Hufflepuff replied, looking so terrified Belladonna wondered if her costume was just that good or her reputation was better than she'd imagined. It was clear the student had to be a half-blood or a muggleborn, since Belladonna had no idea of who Little Red Riding Hood and Morticia Addams were. The names sounded stupid, especially Little Red Riding Hood. Penelope wasn't little, nor was she red. Besides, the name didn't indicate what creature the character would ride. She did, however, know what vampires looked like. If she managed to find Anderson, she might also find Penelope. At the very least, he could tell her where she could find Penelope.

"You better not be wrong. Also, a werewolf costume? Seriously? And people say we Slytherins are the insensitive racist ones. You should be ashamed of yourself," Belladonna replied coldly, turning away from the Hufflepuff and moving towards the middle of the party, looking for the Gryffindor. Much to her dismay, it seemed like vampire was a rather popular costume. About to loose hope, Belladonna began looking for another Hufflepuff. When she heard the glorious sound of Anderson's high-pitched screaming coming from not too far away.

She followed the sound as quickly as she could- which wasn't too fast, considering she had to push and shove her way around the crowd to reach the group. When she finally saw Anderson with a hand over his ass and, most importantly, Penelope Hottle in her full costumed glory.

She was beautiful.

The Hufflepuff girl looked so amazing Belladonna had to pinch herself to make sure she wasn't hallucinating. She knew nothing about Little Red Riding Hood, but she quickly became her favorite fictional character of all time. Feeling her throat turning slightly dry, Belladonna approached Penelope from behind, placing a hand on her shoulder as soon as she was within the reach of the Hufflepuff.

"Does Little Red ride fairies?" Belladonna asked, too transfixed in Penelope's looks to stop herself from greeting Penelope with such a horrible line. "I mean, does she mount-no that's worse. I meant to say you look fantastic," she muttered. Thankful her makeup was so heavy it hid her quickly blushing cheeks. Quickly turning to face Penelope's friends, she took note of everyone's costumes. Noticing most of them were muggle, much to her dismay. "Mila, Emma, you look nice too." She commented. Aivree's cat costume suited her too, but she didn't want to compliment a Gryffindor. The only thing stopping her from insulting Penelope's friend was the fact she wanted to stay on Penelope's good graces, and antagonising her friends was probably the worst thing she could do. "Eli your costume is...unique. Keith and Aivree, you look...adequate."

Phyrun wasn't sure what to make of the look of betrayal that crossed Petrovic's face. It wasn't like he had done anything to warrant it.

But, then again, Petrovic started speaking, explaining in a round about way why he had displayed betrayal at Phyrun's words.

The movement of Petrovic's wand drew his attention and he lazily watched the spell be cast. He tracked its movement through the crowd, listening. In all honesty, Anderson's yelp was very satisfying, despite him not knowing the cause of the retaliation. He turned to clarify what the retaliation was for only to pause. Was it a trick of the light or was there a slight smile curling Petrovic's lips.

A small part of him wondered what the other would look like grinning and the event that would cause such a thing, as that part of him had wondered over the amount of time he had noticed that Petrovic didn't smile.

"So what exactly did he do to be on the receiving end of a stinging hex?" he asked nonchalant, Rachel's hand slipping into his. He didn't look down but he did give her hand a squeeze as he felt her body press against his side. She wasn't looking for his attention so he didn't give it to her. He was aware of her, of how she was curiously gazing at the crowd, but did nothing more. "As irritating as Anderson is, that's still not technically permitted being a Prefect." The corner of his mouth cocked upwards. "Though, I've been meaning to do that more times than I dare count."

Oh, the number of times he had wanted to curse Anderson was ridiculous. But because of the state of his magic and body, there was no way he was wasting time on such a petty thing.

Mila beamed at the compliment. Truly, she was beginning to think that one nice word from Penelope or Eli was worth more than a million from anybody else, perhaps even Sebastian Blutmond himself. She ran a hand over her newly raven hair and smiled mischievously.
"I suppose I just fancied a change. Besides, this costume makes me feel... bad. In a good way."
The girl couldn't hold back her giddy (and sheepish) laughter as Penelope swatted at her and then linked arms with her and Eli. That felt right, the three of them together: as part of the trio, Mila really did feel unstoppable. Walking through the crowd and trying to pick out the various monsters and pop-culture references was wonderful fun, to the point where she felt that she could happily have spent all evening doing it. Their classmates had really come up with some amazing ideas for costumes and Mila couldn't help but feel that the effort everyone had put in really made the night. Somehow, she thought that if everyone had just thrown on a mask at the last minute, the atmosphere wouldn't have been quite so vibrant. As the trio joined their other friends, Mila could barely contain her enthusiasm, which promptly began to show in the form of a rush of compliments.
"Evening everybody! Oh, wow. Alex, I'm not a superhero expert but you still look totally hot. Oh, Keith, Emma, that's so adorable! And Keith, those fangs are so impressive, you have got to tell me how you made them look so real. And Aiv, you look ridiculously lovely. This is brilliant." As her babbling finally subsided, Mila took a deep breath and smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry if I'm irritating. I just adore Halloween."
She nodded eagerly to Penelope's suggestion, and joined her in searching for a spot. Just as she began however, Bella appeared and fixed Penelope with what Mila could only hope was an ironically bad pickup line. Though, admittedly, the gesture was sweet, and she'd have to be blind not to see the way Bella was looking at her friend. With a sense of smug satisfaction, she discreetly gave Pene a nudge without looking at her, hoping the girl would register what she was trying to point out: as she had teased, Bella's head had certainly been turned. Covering up her movement, she smiled at Bella and nodded her thanks.
"You look nice too! More than nice, really. Oh, and I know, isn't it just?" She grasped Eli's hand as she responded to Bella's comment on his costume, "He's so clever. Couldn't ask for a better costume partner."

At Phyrun's question, Caden could only breathe heavily through his nose, almost exhaling his annoyance at the remembrance of the grievances Keith caused him.

"Apparently, the bloke took it upon himself to register me into the Test of Courage hosted by the school. Seeing how it was a non-compulsory event, I was planning to skip it," he explained, voice dry and expression unamused.

Registration was done by submitting one's name on a slip of paper to the Pumpkin Head which sat at the end of the dining hall. Similar to the Sorting Hat or the goblet of fire used to determine candidates for the Tri-wizard tournament, the Pumpkin Head was a magical item seated on the podium. Due to the dangers which lurked, only 5th years and above were allowed to enter the event. A magical barrier kept those who are insufficient in skill and age out from registration.

Aside from the event being a total waste of time (in Caden's opinion), it was also a social event for people to partner up in pairs or groups, building rapport and team-building skills as well as problem solving and critical thinking. The latter were things Caden lacked nothing short on, but it was the idea of socializing which made him chagrined.

If Anderson had truly registered him like he said he did, Caden should probably someone less sufferable to partner up with----and fast.

He glanced over at Phyrun, studying him for a second. He wondered if the prefect would have joined in such an event and opted to ask, before eventually deciding against it. Phyrun didn't seem like the sort to entertain such a thing. He wasn't even in a costume, let alone registered for something as petty as the Test of Courage.

Shaking his head, Caden sighed once before eventually taking his seat. He couldn't back out now but he could at least spend his remaining moments in whatever peace he could find. First things first though: he needed dinner.
