enter the altadonna house, our hosts; the most ruthless family in both europe and the american east coast - this family that trods the soil with devotion and respect. this family that has called this bloody soil their home since the renaissance era; their blades as sharp as their wit and as clean as their dealings but only in the eyes of the priests. one should not betray such a gracious host lest their disappearance be swift and their grave be cold.
enter the moon house, the mediators; do not take the intentions of this hungry snake as pure. hailing from korea, they are the most well-funded crime family in east asia - putting the chinese and japanese mafias to shame with their calculating nature. though they are sleek, professional and emotionally indifferent - they are no stranger to driving those who would hinder their business dealings into an early grave. perhaps what is most frightening about them is that they hold no true alliance. every night club, every casino in seoul is owned by its mysterious head - moon byung-hoon.
enter the nikolaev house, our sheer brute strength; centered in the orthodox city of st. petersburg. traffickers of death to war-torn ex-soviet countries in more ways than one. be it injectable poison or a few hundred kalashnikovs, they are near indistinguishable from common street gangs with their painted skin and bloody noses - but if you value your kneecaps being unshattered and that tongue in your mouth you would be wise to not speak evil of them in such ways. their quick tempers are unmatched, but what they lack in tact they make up for in sheer perseverance.
all three vie to possess the one true power of the east - the king of all kings, the one who oversees all movement of each substance - each atrocity committed under their watchful eye attributed to their guiding hand. caught in the middle, however, are sons and daughters. brothers and sisters. jesters and friars. friends and lovers. death may be certain but betrayal is just as guaranteed.
(sappho here. this is essentially a spin-off reboot of a roleplay i started way back in february 2017 under a different account called "bleeding hearts & honey" perhaps that is a better aesthetic name, yes, but i was wanting to change it up a bit. essentially this roleplay is several shakespeare-inspired tragedies rolled into one with as few pre-set "roles" as possible. essentially, each character possesses a shakespearean "counterpart" in this roleplay and the imagery is heavily inspired by the flashy neon of baz luhrmann's 1997 adaptation of old shake-a-spear's titular romantic tragedy, romeo and juliet. this means that you may make an oc that follows a similar character arc and/or has a similar personality as, say, hamlet, ophelia or puck. there *cannot* be more than one of each, however. get creative. maybe an mlm/wlw equivalent of romeo and juliet or some such. the only "roled" parts come in the form of who's who in each family. all heads of house will be npcs to avoid powerplaying from other characters, save for the moon family head of house. i will be playing him as an actual oc because he, too, has a shakespearean arc he is going to follow and will be acting as a mediator for most of this. he will likely be the only one of my characters for this without an official shakespearean counterpart. this is done purposefully on my part and will come into play later.
each family has four roled positions. there can be as many other reps for each family as there is interested parties. they are all very important roles and will have to be okay'ed by me before playing.

โข second-in-command (excellent chance to backstab and claim power sometime) -- one for each family. need writing sample.
โข advisors (see above) -- one (two max) for each family. need writing sample.
this will be a long-term, multi-para literate roleplay. besides one big plotline for each act, each character will essentially be left to their own devices to scheme, develop relationships (of the platonic, romantic and/or destructive kind) between others. there can be side-plots if you wish, however i encourage them to be played out in your own private dm's or whatever else you want in order not to spam the main thread with just one certain interaction.
side note: not everyone in each faction is related. don't worry about anything weird if your characters have, uh, relations with somebody in the same "family".
