Name:
Itsuki Ren
意月 蓮

Age:
--

Appears to be in his early twenties.

Height:
5'10''

Race:

Demon. Descendant of Yamata no Orochi.

Personality:
As a powerful demon who currently takes on a human form, Itsuki chooses to mentally separate the two entities, resulting in him possessing a dual personality.

In his human form, Itsuki proves to have a rather cold exterior. He typically comes across as sullen, and extremely apathetic due to his desire to keep some distance between himself and humans. Despite this, he still does enjoy human contact to an extent (though he's unwilling to admit it), and finds intrigue in observing their quirks, strengths, and weaknesses. Moreover, he loves a good challenge, and finds that developing an understanding of human nature is as enticingly challenging as it is captivating.

If he finds benefit in something, Itsuki can be deceptively charming and affectionate in order to get what he wants. In fact, this is the persona he takes on in many cases if he wants something badly enough. If he sees no personal gain from the cause however, he is prone to outright ignore it altogether.

He often speaks cryptically, leaving much of what he says to the imagination. Alongside him simply being a tease, this is also because he would rather leave people guessing than have them knowing what his true intentions are. In the same sense, he tends to keep his face devoid of any deep emotion unless something genuinely catches him off guard.

Itsuki does not take kindly to being told what to do, especially when it's his family's doing. As a result, he can be very spiteful when unwanted expectations are placed on him. For the most part, he does as he pleases.

Extras:
- Though he dislikes large crowds, he's very fond of traditional festivals (especially the Tanabata) and frequents them often, especially to people watch.
- He is drawn to beautiful things, and prides himself on admiring anything that respectably catches his eye, though according to him, it is a rare occurrence. That aside, his liking towards pretty things does not carry over to his food preferences as he's willing to eat almost anything so long as it tastes good.
- Although his last name means 'lotus', his favorite flowers are actually camellias.
- Mind games are his specialty.
- He can be very lazy in his human form and will nap almost anywhere. He is also a light sleeper.
- He only dislikes cats because they do not like him.

The night was cool and crisp with little no disturbances in the village, given that it was very late and nearly everyone was or should be asleep. Quietly stepping out from the small tool shed that she had hid herself in, the headmasters daughter pulled her cover over her head, and after a quick check to make sure no one was around to see her, she quickly walked to the edge of the village where the tall wooden walls were that protected their village from bandits and demons. Scanning the walls, she found the small hole that was just big enough for someone of her size to fit through. Pushing aside the bush that covered up the hole; after one more look back to make sure no one saw her, she slipped through the hole.

Tsukiya remained hunched over under the cover she had on until she knew that no one would see her or be coming after her and once she felt it was safe, she dropped the sheet and neatly folded it inside the wicker basket she brought along. Stretching her arms up, Tsukiya breathed in the fresh, clear smell of the forest. She honestly only came outside the village just so she could do this. Her village was so crowded, and the air was constantly being polluted by gases and smells of rotting flesh from animals they cultivated and killed for meat. So, she started making a habit to escape from the village as often as could.

Though her reasons for sneaking out the village whenever she could went far deeper than that. She felt like a confined handmaiden inside that place, never allowed to go outside the village alone, if ever, and was always tasked with doing mundane tasks such as preparing the vegetables and cookware for the cooks, maintaining the household when her mother couldn’t, fetching water from the wells to prepare baths. But never, was she ever able to go out and venture on her own. To do so would result in severe repercussions, the likes of which she wasn’t keen on finding out. For to defy her father was asking for a death wish. Not that her father was an intimidating man, quite the opposite really, when you meet him. But he did hold a lot of power, and he would do any means necessary to ensure order is followed.

It was still a mystery as to how he managed to hold such power over the people’s heads as well as how he was able to revive a struggling village from the brink of extinction. She always told stories of how bad things were for her village before she was born, and that it was all thanks to her father for saving them. But she found these tales to be somewhat twisted, that there’s an underlying truth that’s not being mentioned by anyone. Or that no one knows.

Regardless of what her father has done, it still didn’t make any sense as to why her freedom was so restricted whereas that of her siblings weren’t. Her brother and sisters all were free to come and go and from the village as they pleased and her parents weren’t as hard on them as they were on her. She didn’t understand any of it, and it’s made her want to leave her village entirely one day. But until that day comes, she would have to endure.

So caught up in her musings, Tsukiya almost didn’t when she had reached the destination she came to. It was a small pond located not too far from the village, but far enough that no one would accidently be outside and see her. The pond was beautiful at night as the moonlight illuminated the ponds waters and the tiny lily pads floated across it. A smile came upon her face as she walked to edges of the pond, and after slipping off her sandals, dipped her toes into the cool water. Shivering, Tsukiya crouched at the edge and mindlessly played with the rippled in the water, thinking of nothing and no one. Until she saw a particularly pretty looking flower sitting on top of one of the lily pads and she knew she wanted it to add to her collection. This would be nice to wear for tomorrow.’ She thought and without another second, leaned over into the pond to try and grasp at the flower.

But just as her fingers grazed the edges of the flower, sudden movement in the water cause it drag away from her reaching her hands and the sudden loss of her prize caused her to lose her balance and fall unceremoniously into the water. “ Eeeeeeeeekk!” She screamed as the cold water bit at her exposed skin. Quickly sitting up, Tsukiya blinked and rubbed the water out of her eyes. Looking down at herself, she was completely drenched and she couldn’t be more annoyed. Huffing deeply, the raven haired woman looked beside her saw the flower that she was so desperate on getting, appear right next to her, looking ever so innocent. As if it didn’t just cause her to ruin her fall into a pit of cold water. “Hmph. Stupid thing you made me fall.” Snatching the flower off the pad, she stared at it a moment, before sighing and holding it out to admire as she remained sitting in the pond. “ I suppose most things are worth risking it all for.” She mused, looking from the flower to the moon.

Itsuki watched the moon's reflection glisten across the stagnant water, its distorted rays illuminating the lily pads floating about the pond.
A soft breeze began to pick up, gently caressing the blades of grass around him and tousling his hair a bit. He enjoyed tranquil nights like these and was truly grateful for the times where he could observe them without being bothered. After all, they wouldn't last forever.

He glanced back down at the wound on his leg and sighed. It wasn't as deep as it had been, but it was still sensitive.

This was the first time he'd ever taken his human form for so long, and quite frankly, it was beginning to take its toll on him. His wounds healed at an excruciatingly slow rate, and his abilities didn't serve him like he was used to. But despite all of these things, there was a part of him that still very much enjoyed being human, though he would never fully admit it to himself. For some reason, even with all of his limitations, it felt freeing.

In his demon form, his freedoms were restricted. Especially now.

Susanoo was pursuing them, and had been for weeks. His little henchmen had already found him and managed to shoot him in the leg with some specialized arrow before he was able to get away. And now his father overemphasized, perhaps more than ever, their need to be exceptionally careful until the proper time presented itself. And by 'proper time,' he knew by now that he meant until after his marriage was with some human girl was consummated.

But Itsuki had always wondered why that meant that he was expected to remain in his demon form. Why not take on a form less...conspicuous? After all, it was in his demon form that he'd been shot at unexpectedly, and nearly poisoned severely. He was lucky he was even able to escape without causing much of a scene, no thanks to the fact that he wasn't allowed to kill anyone for the time being.

Even if his human form was much weaker, at least he wouldn't be found out as easily, and with all of the restrictions he had anyway, what difference did it really make? The exchange seemed quite worth it in his eyes.

And that's why, despite his father's wishes, Itsuki planned to remain in this form—at least until he fully regained his power.

Besides, he'd grown very accustomed to playing around amongst the humans and he wasn't quite ready to abandon that just yet. If his father couldn't handle it, then he could always summon his bothersome half brother to do his bidding...

...like he was so eager to do anyway.

Itsuki suddenly felt a presence nearby, which served to shake him from his thoughts. His senses heightend as he tuned in to where it came from. Without looking, he could tell that it was human, but the scent was light; fragrant.

It was a woman.

Curiosity begged at him, and eventually got the better of him when he felt her scent grow stronger. After several moments, he turned around to see its owner. She was a bit far from him still, but his calculating eyes took her in no less.

She looked to be young, at least in human years. Perhaps someone from the nearby village who managed to wander away without being noticed. He'd assumed that people would be smart enough as to not walk around so late at night what with all the dangers that humans so frantically feared, but it seemed the message did not completely pass itself on. Or, she was just simple. Whichever it was, she didn't seem at all worried, and carried about her business absentmindedly.

After dismissing her as no threat to him, Itsuki turned away, hopeful that she would not see him. Several moments of silence passed on, until he heard a light shriek followed by a...

splash?

His senses were on alert again as he turned around just in time to see her completely submerge into the water. Without thinking it through clearly, he quickly made his way to where she'd clumsily fallen into the pond. The water wasn't too deep, so it only took her several seconds to reemerge. And there she sat, fully drenched with water dripping everywhere from her body, yet her fixation remained on a lone pink lily, lightly shifting about due to the ripples caused from her sudden fall. She reached her dainty hands out to pick it up and hold it, as if nothing had happened. Her dark tresses hung loosely, clinging to her face and resting against her now slightly exposed shoulders. He wondered briefly if she even noticed that her yukata had slid down, or whether she even cared for that matter.

Before long, she finally looked up, and his eyes instantly caught on her deep violet ones, and lingered there a moment. Something in them grabbed his attention and held it captive. Indeed, there was something different about her, but he couldn't place what.

Istuki was the first to break contact, being that he turned away to stifle a chuckle at her current predicament.

"It seems you have a calling to nature." He stated. "Or rather...it has a calling to you." He offered her a small smile as he extended his hand to help her out of the water. The wound on his leg stung a bit, and he winced, only momentarily, before he made an effort to ignore the pain. He'd hoped that she hadn't noticed, but wasn't entirely sure.

He considered his words carefully before he continued on.

"I'm...sorry if this is intrusive, but something you've said just now piqued my interest. What did you mean when you expressed that some things were worth risking it all for?"

Tsukiya was so caught up in her own musings, and that of the beauty of the flower she held in her hands, she didn’t notice when a figure had silently crept upon her. It wasn’t until she started feeling eyes on her that she looked up from the precious pink petals to look into that of dark eggplant colored orbs. For a moment, she was stuck, as she didn’t expect for someone to be out this late at night, and at a lone pond no less. She didn’t move a single inch as she stared back at the stranger staring at her with such intense eyes. All the while still holding the flower in her palm. She couldn’t make out much of what they looked like, whether it was a female or male, given how dark it was. But their eyes shone through the darkness like a firefly.

It wasn’t until the stranger broke eye contact with her that Tsukiya was able to reclaim her mind and body. Blinking profusely, the raven haired woman stared at the hand that was being offered to her. It was quite a nice looking hand, the nails were finely trimmed as though they were frequently take care of, and his palm also looked smooth, but probably still calloused from natural biological causes. Wait. Why was she even thinking about someone’s hand? Not to mention a complete strangers at that.

Completely disregarding what he said, Tsukiya ignored the hand that was in front of her and she quickly stepped-more like crawled- out of the pond, her soaked yukata dragging terribly behind her as she found purchase on land once more. She was dressed in only a simple pink yukata with blue trimmings but it was made with heavy material and was actually a size too big for her. Using her free hand, she fumbled with the ties of her yukata, making sure that it didn’t slip all the way off her person and give this stranger a show. For all she knew, it could be a thief or worse.

She realized that he had asked her a question; as well as she could make out that the stranger was in fact, a male. Raising a defined brow, Tsukiya backed up a bit, so she wasn’t so close to the person and would have a chance to escape if it came down to it. He didn’t look dangerous, but looks could be deceiving.

“ I...what?” She didn’t understand what he needed to know this for. Was he someone from her village? If so, she’s never seen him before. ” I’m not sure what you’re trying to ask me, but I would like to know who you are? And why were you watching me? Did you follow me from the village? I-” She stopped herself, she was beginning to panic, and when she panicked, nothing but nonsense came out of her. She was worried that it was someone from her village, because if so then she was sure to get into trouble with her father. Regardless, she needed to calm down and figure out who this person was and what they wanted.
