SSDM #1

Despite the police’s conclusion that the dumpster fire on the morning of January 4 most likely had nothing to do with the murder, the whole town believes otherwise. Everyone is whispering— or outright declaring— that it must have been a fire started by the murderer to burn incriminating evidence. This makes the location of the dumpster highly unfortunate for suspect Gu Hanbyul, who is now on top of the list of likely murderers for the majority of the townspeople.

SSDM #2

All of the suspects have received a message from an unknown number directing them to go to The Beanccino to "find out the truth behind Kitae." Jeong Chunja is the only one who doesn't get the memo.

YOU WERE MY WORST MISTAKE.

Eunbi had never thought that Yunam was pretty in the winter. She'd read poems written by her Writing major friends about the "speckled silver" of the bare cherry blossom branches, the "angels' breath" that dusted the whole town when the season was cold and peaceful. But to her, the bare trees looked like skeletal hands reaching for the sky, forever grasping at heaven like exiled angels, or demons. The snow was the treacherous powdery kind, dangerous because it promised solid ground where there was only air. Not even any good for snowballs. Winter was not peaceful, but smothering. Everyone was holding their breath, held underwater, their hearts frozen over like Haven Lake on days when the gray skies decided to open up and drop more useless snow on the town.

Today was one of those days. Eunbi moved quickly down the sidewalk, head tucked into her scarf and hat pulled low. Of course, that didn't stop people from recognizing her and giving her a wide berth as she passed. She was distracting herself from their stares by waxing poetic about the scenery. The Beanccino, located on a side street shooting off of Northern Square, seemed deserted from the outside. However, she spotted a full table at the very back when she peered through the window. She opened the door, flinching at the loud tinkle of the bell that signaled her arrival, and walked over to where the others were seated. They'd pulled up chairs around one round table to make room for everyone. Eunbi took the empty seat next to that Japanese boy. A quick glance around told her that Jeong Chunja was the only suspect who wasn't there. "Alright, so who was it that sent the text?" She decided to be direct; there was no point in playing nice yet.

Jeong Chun Ja

The day was like any other. Chunja ate a meal with her parents, her mother showing her a sort of false sincerity while her father did his best not to show his disappointment in her. The three of them had mostly sat in silence around the table, her parents not wanting to say anything because scolding their daughter never seemed to do any good anyway and Chunja didn’t know what to say to them because in a way she knew that they thought she had actually committed the crime of which she was accused.

The cold weather didn’t bother her much, it was an excuse to wear her black leather jacket which did nothing to limit the wary glances she was typically given on a day-to-day basis. The people of Yunam avoided eye contact with her, swerved around her, and sometimes even crossed the street to steer clear of her. One individual even nonchalantly spit on the ground in front of her, which actually was different from the norm, but all Chunja did was grin eerily at him because given her current situation, chasing him down and pummeling him probably wouldn’t have been ideal.

Her arrival at the Beanccino was without event but she was a little surprised that she was even able to keep her job given the current accusations being hurled at her and she didn’t think they were exactly hurting for help, at least not at this time of year. It amused her to think that the cafe was so far removed from the general loop of Yunam that they were their own separate entity operating on an alternate reality and maybe that was true, considering the individuals that would eventually grace the Beanccino with their appearances and cause no one in the place to bat an eye.

At first Chunja wasn’t too concerned, some of them she either knew or had seen at the Beanccino quite often. It was when they all started to sit at the same table that they started to catch more of her notice. She had been slouched over the counter, her arms resting on the top as she somewhat glared at the table with a concentrated look, her posture only straightening as the final individual entered, the chime of the bell signaling her entrance before Chunja's arms crossed over the loose fitting, off the shoulder black band shirt she wore, it wasn’t beyond her that something was up but this wasn’t exactly the opportune place to approach the table and exclaim her suspicions.

TAKE ME TO THE GALAXY MAYDAY

"Don't worry about me, it's going to be alright." She consoled the person on the other side of the phone. dawn when she got the frantic call. Wrapped around the warmth of her blankets and the little fluff ball on her shoulder she didn't bother to get up just yet. It wasn't time. She yawned, trying to calm the other down making it seem like the situation she was in not a big deal. "Although I can't right now due to circumstances I'll make sure that I'll be able to come back home for part of the break."

"Love you." With a smile, she uttered those words before ending the call. It was now an hour later when she finally got out of the comfort of her own sheets and braced the cold winter air which invaded her apartment. While she did like the fair weather and beautiful scenery of flowers blooming in the town during the spring, she found the chilly air she breathed more refreshing. Looking out the window she took a moment to appreciate the snow gently falling down on the streets of the town. Shortly her look of admiration became that of longing. Petting her awakened Scottish fold cat she sighed. "They say winter is the time for comfort, good food, and warmth. It is..." With a pause, she kept her thoughts to herself. If so then why am I here?

Putting on her only black coat that was thick enough to fight against the brute winds of winter she headed down the streets on her bike with a messenger bag over her shoulders. Arriving at the coffee shop an hour ahead of the supposed meeting time on the text she was not surprised to be the first one there. However it didn't really bother her. She was used to being alone and knew how to occupy herself. Ordering a hot chocolate to warm her up she picked a round table in the corner and took out her laptop out of the messenger bag and began writing to pass time.

She only stopped once a voice was directed towards everyone killing any small talk the others may have had with eachother. Taking a sip of her hot chocolate which had gone cold she raised an eyebrow at the girl who, in her eye, wanted to get this over with. Of course she recognized the girl. She was quite popular in YAA, and with the recent visits towards the police station it would be a wonder if she didn't. She smiled at the others directedness. No sweet talk or beating around the bush, just how she'd like it. "Well, Song Eunbi, rather than who sent the text I'm more curious about the truth. After all, once we find out who killed him everyone would have a peace of mind. Oh, except for the murderer of course." She mused.

sojin had reached shortly before eunbi entered, and greeted her with a small smile when the girl took a seat. she supposed they knew one another, but sojin had never been one to acquaint herself well with her brother's girlfriends. eunbi seemed irritated almost, but perhaps sojin was just reading into it too much. she shifted in her seat slightly, then cast a brief glance at hanbyul as the other girl responded to eunbi confidently.

"maybe there's a chance the murderer isn't one of us." sojin suggested meekly, looking around the table. someone was missing. chunja? she turned in her seat to look over at the counter and found chunja leaned over, staring at their group of shady individuals. sojin pulled out the empty chair beside her and beckoned the barista over. they weren't exactly friends, not to mention that sojin always got the feeling chunja had never liked her, but sojin hoped that chunja would at least get the idea that all the suspects were having a little get-together. there was no way she hadn't noticed, right?

sojin returned her attention to the table. "so, the... the dumpster fire?"

Bing was frankly a little annoyed when she got the text telling her to meet them at The Beanccino, but she was also a bit intrigued, the truth behind Kitae?

Making her way through the city bundled in her sweater and scarves, she kept her head down and eyes on the pavement, avoiding judgmental stares that were shot at her. She entered the coffee shop after Sojin, not saying a word as she sat down on a vacant chair across from Hanbyul. She pulled out her phone and leaned back in the chair, propping her feet up on the vacant chair next to her. Once others started filing in though she put her feet down and slipped her phone back into her pocket. Bing just listened, not bothering to speak, glancing at Sojin as she spoke up.

"That dumpster fire.." Bing finally spoke up, turning her gaze to Hanbyul as she laid her chin on her open palm. "Wasn't that near you? Pretty interesting that it happened so close to you, don't you think?"

"Where's Chunja at anyway?" She sighed, not looking particularly interested in being in this meeting, she had way better things to be doing with her time then talking to suspected murderers.
