Eli Mare

Eli wandered down the streets with her usual dreamy expression that caused others to shoot her weird looks. "Typical teenager, abusing drugs," some old people whispered amongst themselves as they shuffled on the farthest side of the sidewalk when they crossed paths. Eli always heard what they said but never took anything to heart. Instead, she dissected the sentence and picked out words that caught her interest. Drugs, she mused. Something that has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body. The boy she had first asked what the word meant had just laughed and said it meant a good time. She turned to the dictionary and it proved a lot more useful.

The weather was colder than usual but Eli barely felt it. The ocean was always cold the further down you went. Still, the large jacket around her slim frame was a nice comfort. She came on land often and always had clothes hidden that she could slip on before going on her adventures. She learned a long time ago that humans were prudes. The jeans felt rough on her legs but were tight and felt like her tail, so it was a small comfort.

People were flowing downtown like a lazy river and Eli got swept up in it. She walked around the town with no intentions most of the time and this was no different. She liked being in a crowd like this, though. Families with loud-mouthed kids layered with jacket after jacket was all around her as they walked down the street. Cars seemed scarce and the streets were empty so Eli took the opportunity to walk right down the middle.

Her attention was caught by a familiar scent that made her stomach growl loudly. She had eaten fish earlier but that hardly compared with the food in that building. Eli made her way through the small throng of people and slipped into the colorful restaurant. Light-hearted music and warm light from overhead spilled on her and seemed like such a contrast from the dull gray outside world. A server greeted her immediately thanks to the cafe only having three customers and Eli was led to the bar. Her short frame was hard to get on top of the tall stools and she could see the waiter hiding a smile as she struggled. She finally clambered on top and turned back to the man with a victorious grin. He blushed a little before handing her the menu and scurrying off to the back. Eli gave it no thought and absentmindedly turned through the menu before putting it down and facing the small T.V with the news that could barely be heard over the music. The camera was showing the City Hall and people who had already gotten there early. So there was supposed to be a meeting? Hm. She'd have to head there soon. The waiter came and she ordered the mushroom swiss burger with fries and a large Sprite. She knew she had a time limit and so wolfed down the burger without a crumb to spare before turning to the fries next. Eli did it all while her eyes were glued to the T.V screen as the news anchor discussed the weird events that had happened in the past during this time of the year. She knew her kind's antics like the back of her hand, and this was undoubtedly mermaid and even siren activity. She herself had participated in some of it and she still felt guilty for scaring the old fishing man all those years ago. The waiter came back to gather the dishes and Eli got one last sip out of the glass before handing a crisp hundred dollar bill to him and walking out. Merta, an elder woman Eli had gotten close with, had always told her not to do that but the girl couldn't help herself, especially after she had heard college students that came home for break complain about loans and all that. Eli told Merta she was stingy and the old woman had just flipped her off. Good times.

Eli parted through the people like Moses and got to the front of the group. She loved being near all the action and she had never actually seen the mayor. The colorful mermaid shoved her hands in her pockets as she waited for the mayor's speech to the citizens of lachrymose.

Lola
outfit: x/x/x
with: denise the irish lady

lola had been watching from the shoreline, watching a man tend to the white stick thing that sat upon the cliff, wondering if he could be useful. for months she had been waiting for the perfect moment to set her plan in motion; yet lola didn’t realise humans didn’t find a naked, confused woman to be normal. lola wandered around until a little elderly lady started screaming at her in a high pitch voice, lola furrowed her eyebrows at the sight of the of the grey-haired woman as she easily towered over her, lola’s arms slithered around her chest as her body began to shiver from the cold wind nipping at her skin. with a sigh, the elderly lady wrapped a towel around lola and lead her to her rusty machine.

lola was reluctant to enter the machine, it looked dangerous and about to collapse at any minute.

“would you get your freezing butt in the car, missy?” the elderly lady said in annoying as she made her way to the other side of the car and slammed the door shut. wearily, lola followed the woman’s lead and climbed into the car. the elderly lady drove through the town until they reached a tiny home covered in weeds and dead flowers. she pulled lola out of the car and dragged her inside, lola was stunned as the woman lead her to a room what she thought was called a bedroom. the room was tiny and cramped, filled with old magazines and cat hair. lola sneezed as cat fur floated through the air.

“sorry ‘bout that lovey, travis has a habit of shedding,” the woman apologised, her voice having a slight accent between her words. lola tried to recognise the accent, was it irish? she couldn’t tell. lola’s brown eyes studied the tiny room while the, assumed, irish lady scavenged through her tiny drawer of clothes.

“you’re a tiny thing, aren’t ya? well, i only have these from my youth that may fit you and here are my grandson’s shoes.” the lady murmured under her breath as she handed a floral patterned dress, black sneakersand a puffy blue jacket to lola. the siren gave the woman a nod, a weary smile on her face as she slipped the clothes over her body, warmth slowly enveloping her. lola wandered out of the bedroom and into an even smaller room with a metal can screaming. the lady grinned at lola and poured two cups of transparent brown liquid. “here lovey, you must be freezing after that.”

lola studied the liquid cautiously as she slowly brought the cup to her lips, allowing the hot liquid to warm her insides up. the lady, whom lola found out her name was denise, turned the tiny sound box on the counter next to travis.

“-vreyone is gathering at the city hall to remember and reflect about the infamous hurricane fjord that struck our small to-“

lola perked up at the sound of the tiny box speaking about the hurricane, she remembered it quite well. as she listened carefully to the radio, taking small sips from the cup, a loud ringing noise came from the other room. lola jumped back in fright from the unexpected noise as denise grumbled and shuffled away. her eyes darted around the room, noticing denise’s little bag of coins and notes sitting idly on the counter. lola swiftly kept from her seat, grabbing the bag and rushed through the door, wobbling underneath her as she ran. she could hear denise screaming from behind but lola didn’t dare to look back.

after running for a while, lola stopped and regained her breath. she wandered down the streets of the town, following the other people who appeared to head towards the city hall. lola stuffed her hands into the pockets of the puffy jacket and followed the crowd, keeping her head low as she made her way in front of the crowd to see the stage.

24. MALE. HUMAN.
LOCATION headed to city hall ┋ MOOD nervous
TAGS nymphadora. nymphadora.

The horizon was not looking good. Dark clouds loomed over the once brighty lit blue sky, now dulled down to thick fog and neverending rainstorms that plagued the town with apprehension and unease. Elijah sat idly at the top floor of the beloved lighthouse, resting one of his shoulders against the large stained windows, watching the ocean waves strike against each other, the sound silenced by the unbreakable walls of the quiet building.

It was an unusually early hour for Elijah to be awake at, his daily routine consisted of rising during the early evening and passing the time laboring away in his isolated lighthouse away from the shore and civilization, many people would find that to be lonely, but for Elijah, it was habit. 'The owl', some would call him. Again, many people might find offense to such comments, but Elijah was pleased that anyone thought of him at all, let alone noticed his nocturnal way of living.

Collecting his thoughts out of the trance he'd been in for the past few hours, Elijah tiredly staggered to his feet, letting out a small yawn and tensing the muscles in his back he could feel cramping up from being in such an uncomfortable position for so long. He silently cursed at himself, taking one last look out the window only to notice a lone silhouette he knew all too well amidst the sea, challenging the very same waves he'd watched fight against one another.

'Foolish', he thought, 'jumping into the ocean in such weather, and would you look at the time?' His wristwatch read 4:11, only a quarter hour to the town meeting. He couldn't be late, but it wouldn't hurt to pick up a friend along the way.

Elijah rapidly gathered his things, stuffing the few items he brought for company into his backpack, slinging it over his shoulders after clothing himself with a thick jacket. Moments after fumbling with his several keys, he was out the door.

Only a few feet away from the entrance was a cozy, small boat tied to an old metal pole along the wooden pathway. Elijah climbed onto the vessel, packing his things between his legs and setting off for shore, digging the paddles on the sides of the boat into the cold water. Although he wasn't particularly the strong type, hauling his tiny ship to and from the shore to the lighthouse was something he was used to at this point, and it didn't take him long to pull up a few feet away from Lachrymose's very own living mermaid, Nina.

"I don't suppose you have the time?" he yelled, catching the dark haired girl's attention, stopping in her tracks upon hearing his voice. With a sleek dive underwater, she popped up on the rim of Elijah's boat, slicking her braid behind her and grinning up at him.

"I'm afraid I don't, sailor," she replied. Elijah smiled timidly.

"Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the Mayor's speech is in fifteen minutes," he stated, timidly holding his hand out for her. "I could take you, it's getting cold, and I have some spare clothes."

Nina moved her gaze down to Elijah's hand for a second, then back up to meet his eyes and laughed subtly. "Thanks Elijah, but I'm five times faster than S.S. Riddle. Hell, I'll race you to the shore," she said with a beaming expression. "I'll pass on your yacht, but I'll take you up on some warm clothes."

Before he could utter another word, Nina dove back into the ocean, her outline rising back above the water several feet away from where Elijah sat. He smiled for a moments worth, then shook his head with a sigh and began paddling behind her trail. A few minutes later he pulled up to the bay where Nina sat by his docking station, swinging her feet over the water, her long braid hanging loosely over her shoulder. Elijah's breath hitched slightly as he tied up his miniature ship, seeing Nina walk across the wooden planks toward him with a smug look on her face as to say I told you so.

"You win," he said, simpering and handing over an extra pair of dry clothes he had in his bag. Nina thanked him in return with a coy laugh and the two set off to the City Hall as the sky, turning darker with every minute that passed, rumbled with thunder.

"Come, come to us. Feel it. Feel. Sing them to their deaths!" The whispering voices continuously haunted her, practically swimming around her head, speaking sweet-nothings into her ears. "Do it, girl. It's time. Don't fail us. Don't." A high-pitched voice shrieked in her ears in an almost cackling nonchalant tone as it plagued her thoughts before she felt a whiff of coldness pass through her frame. Her eyes slowly returned from its blank state, a hint of shimmer passed through her marbled eyes as she blinked. The luring of their melodic murmurs sounded repeatedly in the depths of her thoughts as she tried to rid herself of the plagued sounds. Biting her tongue, refusing to open her mouth, she clamped her lips shut despite the need to release her voice in the open air above as she stared at the small ripples of the water as sun transcended below. She felt trapped, practically choking from her own air as she clawed at her throat, resisting the urge to sing. Stop resisting. You know you want it. But, she couldn't, never would she give into temptation. She'd never become the monster her parents wanted to be if it meant redemption that could never be offered to her if she killed innocent humans. Innocent! Innocent, not! An angry voice filled the air, hissing directly at her as they continued to mess with her head.

Her eyes fluttered open as she quickly placed a hand on her chest, her heart beating erratically against her chest, feeling her chest tightening. The young siren's face contorted into one of pain, anguish, and hurt as she gripped her necklace, sucking in the air around her. She hadn't realised how much time had passed - falling asleep on the rocks of The Crescent - away from peering eyes above land and underwater. She need an escape and fast. However, what was left of the radiant sun was gone and all she was given was cloudy skies and the chill, frosty air. Something was stirring Dilara Aslan could feel it in her fins - a storm was brewing, but it wasn't her. Quite frankly, like a fish our of water, Dilara had been sprawled out, vulnerable, even, to be discovered by those so-called "monsters" of the land that humans rode on at sea [ships]. But, she saw none and no, sailors. The thirst in her throat was subdued, not quenched, but the burning sensation wasn't arising as it had in her dream.

Staring up at the skies above and the ripple of the waters, Dilara narrowed her eyes, her forehead creasing with curiosity as she wrapped her arms around her chest. She wasn't cold, but rather, something caused shivers to go up her spines as she questioned if her emotions had something to do with the weathers above or maybe it was just "Poseidon" as the humans called him playing around. Dilara could almost hear or sense a call in the air, almost as if it was trying to catch her attention. Nevertheless, she decided to call it her sixth sense, realising something was on the horizon and she wasn't going to wait to find out. Her eyes were drawn back to the human world, her heart aching to be set free, to go against her parent's wishes and find the meaning to her life - her happy ending. "Evil! Evil! No trust. Go back! Back!" The warning bells signaled in her ears, screeching at her to don't do it. Dread crept to her spine as she flicked her tail in the water, making another splash in the waves of the sea. Her heart belonged to the sea, but she yearned to be on land. It was now or never and before she could change her mind or find her head - she dove back into the water, making her way towards the shore of the human town.

Time Skip

As she neared the shallow areas of the sea where a tall, towering structure could be seen on a closer inspection, Dilara gazed around the land, seeing if she could spot any humans - the beings that walked on . . what was the word? Legs. But, also the beings that were responsible for her aunt's death. Her eyes narrowed as she hissed at the thought, her fangs retracting from her mouth as she could feel the blood lust surfacing. Seeing two silhouettes out at sea, she watched a male aboard the "monster" [boat] moving towards the human female that had been swimming, Dilara quickly moved out of view, looking for some place to hide behind as she watched the scene ahead - out of sight and out of mind. She wanted to get closer to the humans, finding some fascination in them as she was brought out of reverie - her fangs retracting as she looked on ahead, trying to get a good ear to hear what was being said. All she could make out was "mayor" and "speech", everything else was drowned at the calls of the seagulls above. Shaking her head, she looked up, placing a finger on her lips as she 'shushed' them quietly. However, as she looked back, the two seemed to be racing back to shore as Dilara slowly followed behind them - keeping a great amount of distance to not be felt as she moved with grace and agility.

Time Skip

She had wandered to the point of getting well - lost. Where was she? Where did they go? Her "legs" wobbled in every which way and she couldn't find herself being able to balance. It was a struggle to get from one area to the next without falling on her face or finding some sort of "thing" to lean against. Dilara was getting beyond frustrated as she hissed at what was suppose to help her move. Swimming is so much easier than this. . . "walking" business! Huffing and puffing, Dilara could only spot what was called "clothes" from some bin that was left at sea. It didn't look like it belonged to anyone so she took it, placing it on her frame. However, who would have thought that the "clothes" - was it? - she placed on her body made her feel well, restricted. The fabric felt awful against her skin and she felt as if she was being enclosed or binded into something. Nevertheless, Dilara made sure to keep her crown some place safe - under the sea in a hidden cave - before coming to shore. Knowing she would be without her crown was odd, as if she could feel something was missing from her - a part of her, but perhaps she was being too melodramatic? Regardless, time was of the essence and she wanted to make the best of her secret adventure on land before she was caught. Dilara had wanted to ask the two humans for directions, but before she could reach or catch up to them, they disappeared. She couldn't just walk up to them and ask for directions. . . not when she felt so out of place despite trying so hard to blend in. But, could they understand her? Her. . dialect was different. . wasn't it? They'd definitely know right away.

Despite all the books she read, the stories she heard, the letters she wrote to Esther and recieved from her, and her time spent practicing, Dilara still felt nervousness bubbling in her frame as she didn't know how vulnerable she felt out of water. Truly, a fish out of water. Dilara had remembered Esther describing and explaining the little details about the detail world and where she could find more answers and explore, but actually being some place than listening was definitely a different experience. She heard whispers in the streets as she passed but she couldn't find where this "speech" was suppose to take place. However, before she could follow the rest of the crowd, she smelled something. . . so . . watering that her stomach spoke. Embarassed, Dilara's cheeks flared with redness as she looked down, hoping her blonde, curly locks could hide her face as she wobbled in a penguin-like manner over towards the Seaside Cafe.

Walking in, Dilara was hit by a plethora of aromas, catching a huge whiff of a variety of smell that she couldn't help but want to inhale and exhale forever. A soft, pleased smile made way to her lips as she felt giddy, finally finding some light at the end of the dark tunnel. However, she was brought out of her state of mind when an older girl greeted her with a big smile, welcoming her into the Cafe. Dilara couldn't help but tuck her hair behind her ears as she mumbled a "thank you". Without further ado, the woman introduced herself as Penny and told her to take a seat anywhere she liked. With a nod, Dilara navigated the inside of the Cafe, her eyes catching every single light, every single structure - much like she did when she was outside, taking in everything of the human world. Although the structures looked odd and distinct to what she was used to, Dilara couldn't help but stay on her toes as she felt like a "tourist" as they called it on land - wanting to take in the moment. Without realising, she had wondered around the Cafe only for her eyes to fall upon a familiar face.

It couldn't be! A small gasp escaped her lips as she narrowed her eyes. Her heart raced once more before she found herself quickly making her way over, almost crashing into another table as she plopped herself in the sit before him, practically falling off the chair as she got in. She wasn't used to sitting or having her fins - no, legs - dangle off the floor and the "chairs" being so hard. "Y-you," she started, not able to find the correct words to say, "Nathan, what are you doing here?!" Dilara whispered harshly, leaning her face closer to the table - almost in secret as she narrowed her eyes. "Are you here for that. . . 'speech' the humans - I mean, people are talking about?" Dilara asked curiously before her eyes were drawn to the windows outside as she heard small gasp and low chatters of the weather out yonder. Without realising it, she spoke softly, almost in a trance-like state, "Something's up . . I can feel it and it's going to start soon."
. . .wait for me where the world begins

Nina
outfit: x/x/x
with:Elijah ( boyguro boyguro )
Nina was always considered an 'early bird' in her family, waking up at the crack of dawn just to relax in the salty sea she considered her front yard, and as the sun slowly crawled up it was no different. The young woman was up and about, running around her disorganised flat with her long hair knotted in a tight braid and her voice muttering what her grandmother consider 'ugly words'.
After finding a towel that was clean and dry, and deciding to wear old sneakers after giving up on finding her sandals, Nina left with her apartment with a skip in her step and a smile tugging at her lips. It was quite a walk from her apartment, one of the cons for a cheap rent in the tiny town but it didn't worry Nina too much; besides, it was nice to be with at her thoughts every once in awhile, it made her feel like a philosopher wondering about the questions of life. As she wandered through the town, passing the glass windows of different stores, her mind pondered different questions she liked to ask herself.

"Why are they called buildings when they're already built?"
"What do sheep count when they can't sleep?"
"Do mermaids exist, and if they do, will my grandparents pay me five dollars for being right?"

Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard the crashing of the ocean. A sweet smile formed on her lips as she rushed towards the ocean while awkwardly kicking off her shoes and dumping her towel on the sand. The wind blew in her face as she dived into the cold water head gracefully, almost like a mermaid, the cold water causing her soft skin to form goosebumps as she swam around. Time seemed to pass by for Nina when she suddenly heard Elijah's voice calling out her name. The two spoke like old friends, with Nina propped up against Elijah's boat as her lanky leg dangled in the murky water. A childish feeling formed in her stomach and the next thing Nina knew, a bet slipped out of her mouth.

"Thanks, Elijah, but I'm five times faster than S.S. Riddle. Hell, I'll race you to the shore, I'll pass on your yacht, but I'll take you up on some warm clothes."

Nina gave Elijah a tiny salute and ducked back into the water, her long legs paddling her way back to the shore. Her swim turned into a sprint as Nina headed close to shore, water droplets dripped from her long hair as she waited for Elijah to tie his boat to the dock. She strolled towards Elijah, her hair waving behind her like a long tail and a childish, yet smug, look on her face. Told you so.

A kinder smile and a coy laugh escaped Nina's lips as she took Elijah's warm clothes graciously and pulled them over her tiny frame, the sleeves of the shirt and jeans clinging onto her wet limbs like a second skin. Nina thanked Elijah once more as she slipped her feet back into her shoes and rolling the hems of her jeans up to her ankles so they looked like they fit her. Nina wiped her small face dry with her tiny towel before flinging the large piece of cloth over her shoulder. "Guess we better get going." Nina shrugged as she twirled on her heels and began walking towards the city with her hands stuffed in the jean's pockets.

As the pair strolled towards the city hall, dodging past other townsfolk, Nina decided to speak up and ask Elijah a very important question.

"Hey Elijah," Nina murmured before continuing her sentence, "What do sheep count when they can't sleep?" She asked curiously with a raised eyebrow. "I mean, if we- humans," Nina began to blabber, pointing to her chest when she referred to herself as a human, "count sheep, then do sheep count monkey? Or maybe cows, cows would be pretty funny to count, what do you think?" Her voice trailed off as she faced Elijah, brown eyes wide open and filled with curiosity.

Talon was up, by time the morning sun came up. He was working of course, as he had to support himself to survive in the world that he had taken refugee in. He was an bartender, having had the look of a 21 year old already. And the fake id of one as well. In his first couple nights on the outside, he made friends. Friends who knew how to fake id's and anything he needed to survive. Yea it came with a price but hell, it was for his fun. He would do anything to keep having fun as he was. He was living in a pretty good apartment downtown near his work. The rent was good and it came with furniture so he didn't have to get crap.

He heard of the town meeting and knew that others of his kind and mermaids would be there. Eli and the others would be there. He smirked, knowing that he himself, has to be there as well. Just because he lived in the human world, didn't take him away from the siren one. He was still apart of the clan. Regrettably but as long as he had freedom, he didn't care. But anything with war with the mermaids. He ends it there. He would like to stay neutral as he has friends in both clans and neither one to him is more important then the other. He sighed already knowing that the city hall is neutral territory as it was human territory but things between mermaids and sirens are never calm and stay in the waters.

Talon comes home to change into clothes he could deal with and left. Not having time, to eat or even plan a good trouble making scheme. He wanted to get there and get out. He didn't want to have to follow the leader back down the watering hole. He had plans to do. On the way to the Town Hall meeting, he grabs a bite to eat. He finishes it as he gets to the town hall. Yawning, he walks in. Seeing already a quite bit of people there. And an familiar redhead ahead. He smirked as he walked up to the front. People part ways for him, as he walks.

He could hear them saying Look, there's that troublesome boy and Why isn't he in jail already He smirked at that one. The police could never pinned him for anything he might have did. It wasn't like he was a newbie at this troublemaking stuff. He knew how to not get caught. Cause he knew that once he did, his trouble making days would be over. And like he would ever let that happen. Talon gets to Eli and bows slightly to him. Smirking he says

"How do you do ma'am. Lovely day we're having aren't we Eli?"

There was nothing more pleasant on a gloomy, dim afternoon for the infamous wild-haired mermaid loitering the streets of peaceful citizens than agitating fellow bartenders for a free milkshake, and maybe a side of fries if he was feeling up for it, as with any other day. The store owners had now gotten used to Nathan and his irritable manners from the few weeks he'd spent lurking around since arriving in Lachrymose, taking up a small condo just in one of the darker corners of town nearby the docking bay. Having had saved human money for decades now, cash was no problem for the mermaid. Hell, he was rich.

Just as one of the many human devices he'd appropriated, from picking pedestrians pockets and so called "purses", struck four o'clock, Nathan burst through the Seaside Café doors in his dusty trenchcoat with a wide grin spread across his face."Afternoon, governor!" he loudly proclaimed, his thick South London accent rolling off his tongue from having spent so much time there in his prior years, to the café owner, Giovanni Esposito, who was sulking in a nearby booth with a pile of papers spread over his table, his head hanging low in his hands, his face covered by his mane of curls. Giovanni groaned in response and let his head drop to the table with a soft bang and Nathan chuckled, making his way over and sliding in up in front of him.

"Wake up on the wrong side of the bed, innit?" he said, carefully examining the scattered plates of half-eaten food over the table and picking at a leftover tuna sandwich. Giovanni peeked up at the mermaid, only raising his head ever so slightly.

"I'm not in the mood, boy. Go nag one of the waitresses if you're so talkative," he grumbled, sitting up right in the booth and slowly stretching his back.

Nathan raised his eyebrows and scoffed dramatically. "That's hardly fair mate, you're the owner of this joint yeah? If anything, you should be serving me," he smiled, cocking his head to the side. "Tell you what, why don't you go bring me some chips? These are stale. I'll give you a nice tip if you don't spit in them," he added with a mocking undertone to his voice, shoving an almost empty plate towards him. Giovanni stared at Nathan with a blank expression on his face as if in complete disbelief, then shook his head and let out an annoyed moan, peering from the edge of the seat.

"ANGELICA!" he shouted, receiving a quieter response which Nathan could only guess was Italian for 'what?'. "VIENI QUI!"

Immediately, a tall and slender-framed young woman with long dark hair tied up in a ponytail, showing off various pieces of metal embedded on her ears and her face strolled over to the table with a notepad and pen in hand, a clear expression of irritation in her eyes. "Che cosa?" she asked, looking over at Giovanni, who weakly pointed a finger at Nathan.

"This man wants to order," he replied, shoving his face back into his stack of files.

Angelica moved her gaze over to Nathan, who for once had been sitting quietly with his hands crossed over one another. "That would be me," he stated with a smile. "I'll have a large peanut-butter banana milkshake, a ham and egg salad toasted three decker sandwich, a plate of tater tots, an apple pie and four corn dogs, oh and some orange juice, freshly squeezed please. And be quick, would you, love? I haven't eaten all day."

For a moment, there was silence. Angelica scribbled down Nathan's order with haste, then slowly looked up at him from her notepad, unsure whether to be unamused or provoked. However before she could utter a snarky remark, Giovanni yelped out in agitation, stumbling out of the booth and shoving past Angelica into the kitchen, the irritated waitress following shortly after, Nathan sitting happily and awaiting his feast. Not too many minutes later, two other waitresses came out from behind the front bar and set down their trays on Nathan's table, a slight look of disgust on their faces. Nathan, however, did not hesitate to dig in.

Halfway through his third-corn dog with two thirds of his milkshake and his entire sandwich gone, a stumbling blonde with unusually shaky legs plopped down onto the seat in front of him. With a disgusting mouthful of food, Nathan raised an eyebrow at her blubbering. "What are you doing here!?" she gasped, to which he responded by raising his plate and continuning to wolf down his meal. "Something's up . . I can feel it and it's going to start soon."

Nathan finished his plate and pushed it away from him, leaning back and letting out a loud, obnoxious burp. "Yeah, the rumbling in my arsehole," he scoffed, picking at his potatoes. "Tots? You look like you could use some," he said, sliding them in her direction. Dilara scrunched her nose cynically, looking at the tater tots in her palm with doubt. Unlike Nathan, his companion was not accustomed to human culture, as one could clearly see by her jello-walk. 'We'll definitely need to work on that if she wants to get to that speech', he thought, observing the siren.

"What is a, 'tot'?" Dilara asked.

Nathan rolled his eyes and leaned forward, taking one from her hand. "Delicious, frankly. Just trust me, open up," he said, pulling down on her chin like a toddler and dropping it in her mouth. "Now chew," he smirked, watching the siren struggle with this new odd discovery whilst standing up and putting his coat back on over his shoulders. Dilara gulped down the mash in her mouth and turned to the mermaid in shock.

"That was amazing!" she exclaimed, a sheer pink spreading over her cheeks.

Nathan laughed. "Angelica! We'll take these to go," he yelled, motioning over to her. More than glad to get him out of the café, Angelica packed the rest of the food into a small carton box to take to-go, and the two set off downtown with Dilara scavening through the leftovers after paying and leaving a truthfully generous tip, just as promised. "So, how 'bout that speech then? Evening entertainment? Shame we haven't any tomatoes," Nathan asked, tucking his hands into his pockets.

Dilara perked up and nodded. "I'm telling you, something isn't right. I think we should go and see what the humans are talking about, but we should pick up Esther first. She'll want to see this as well," she answered, then went back to stuffing her face. 'Esther?' Nathan thought. 'Interesting name. I guess we'll see.'

Carlo

Carlo had stopped swimming in the ocean and he was clearly agitated.

He hated this time of year when sirens and mermaids alike flocked around (and sometimes in) the small coastal town. Carlo was pretty territorial but he had grown up and no longer felt the need to defend the town as if he was the sole inhabitant. Instead, he quietly retreated and waited out the gathering of his kin.

Still, the ocean called to him and he longed for the saltwater and its cool touch. Instead, he bobbed in a tank meant for a dolphin in a tiny, run-down version of sea world that had died shortly after opening. It hadn’t helped that Carlo was responsible for freeing the dolphins.

The tank was 8 feet deep and 12 x 12ft and Carlo floated listlessly on his back with the occasional movement of his tail. It did little to satisfy him but it was something. Carlo let out a sigh and swam to the other side and leaned over to peer at his wristwatch laying on the neat pile of clothes. His shift was about to start.

The plain white T-shirt was pulled on and the rest followed. He wriggled to get the black jeans on and finally his socks and white Vans before heading out. Gray clouds and nippy weather greeted him as he trudged through the town. He was greeted by people, mostly older folks who Carlo did odd jobs for. One lady called him her “guardian angel,” but that was due to him just telling her to get a CAT scan after he got a vision from the future of her fairly close to death. The older lady was surprised to hear about the tumor in her head and gotten care immediately and had now been cancer free for two years. His visions weren’t something he could just call upon whenever he decided but instead came when they felt like it. Visions of the future could always be changed and did so by even the smallest things. Present visions made Carlo feel like he was spying on people while past visions always dug up dirt on someone. It was an ok ability but Carlo didn’t enjoy the few seconds were he looked like he was suffering a stroke as the vision came to him.

Carlo's job was pretty much an intern job at an insurance company but he did get paid. All he did was mostly clean and run errands, but today he was passing out flyers. City Hall was teeming with citizens of lachrymose and Carlo got to work, secretly hoping he got done before the mayor came out and gave her boring speech.

Interactions: boyguro boyguro deer deer - Mentions: Dilara, Nathan, Talon, Lola - Location: The shore, downtown

The afternoon went by sluggishly for the siren, and the atmosphere seemed to hold a certain barrier of lethargy one could almost slice into with a knife. From the movements of her body, to the rhythm of the waves crashing onto the shore, the world seemed languid and unsettlingly quiet as she looked on, interest glinting in her ocean green eyes at the sight of the foggy, almost sticky-looking sky. The warm glow emanating from her body ebbed and the crescents in her eyes morphed into something much more human-like as Esther rose from the water, the droplets crawling down her bare back in rivulets, slow as insects. She had taken to sleeping in the middle of the day as of late, a habit she'd developed recently as the skies seemed to darken much earlier in the day than before. It was almost as if she could hear a suspenseful beating of the drums somewhere in the distance, and she could feel in her gut that something bigger than a storm was brewing.

By the time Esther finished dressing in clothes she'd pilfered from one of the thrift stores downtown a few days prior, it was already late in the afternoon, and the hunger she'd been ignoring since daybreak seemed to throb dully in her stomach, making her grimace. The assortment of clothes on her person could barely constitute as an outfit, evidently too big and draped awkwardly on her body, but her reflection in the water told her that one couldn't deny her appeal even as she donned the worst atrocity there existed. For as long as she'd roamed this earth and for as long as she'd interacted with humans, it was honestly quite a wonder her sense of fashion had never developed. Perhaps it was just because her choice of attire never really hindered her attraction and could only ever intensify it. Truly, for her, there was nowhere to go but up, and she took pleasure in that thought every day, predictably enough.

Eyeing her reflection smugly one last time, Esther meandered across the stretch of the beach, where she concealed her belongings in a burrow by a distinctive barnacle-covered rock, a spot safe from the wrath of the ocean. It pretty much contained all of the little trinkets and doodads she'd purloined from whatever human she'd stumbled upon - whether it was from people who'd fallen victim to libido in Esther's grasps, people she'd charmed her way into giving her things, or simply from abandoned houses while its owners were away. She had never really been good at stealing upfront, unlike perhaps her good friend Talon, who had probably mastered the sleight of hand by now. Whistling, she seized a wad of money from the burrow and stuffed it in the pocket of the oversized men's shirt she was wearing, then grabbed a pair of "cool" sunglasses she'd bought from a vendor downtown (who had described it with that word, hence Esther's eagerness to buy it), and quickly concealed the hiding place once more with a toothy smile on her face and a far-away look in her eyes. She would probably use the money to get herself one of those burgers from the cafe downtown, let the grease dribble down her chin as she bit...

Esther snapped out of her reverie upon feeling as if someone's eyes were boring holes into her, and sure enough, as she turned around, a red-haired woman who looked to be in her twenties stood at a distance from her, staring transfixed. The woman's cheeks seemed to redden upon being caught in the act of staring, but Esther simply smiled a dazzling smile and waved. The girl shyly averted her gaze then hastily walked away, ambling back down the path she'd come from, and Esther couldn't help but stand for a moment, perplexed. It had always confused her how most female humans always seemed so shy around her - or to be more apt, ashamed. It was as if every time Esther would make any sort of advance towards a woman, they'd blush or sheepishly try to disengage in spite of their visible attraction to her. In contrast, Esther noticed, human males were always so crass and straightforward with what they wanted.

Humans, she thought curiously, were rather predictable yet a mystery of a species at the same time. What struck her about them was the fact that they seemed to always want to draw a line between their differences as people, which truthfully, was something that Merfolk had in common, though she would never say that aloud in a million years. With that thought, she slid her sunglasses (which looked ridiculously big on her face) down over her eyes despite there not being any hint of sunlight to threaten her vision, and proceeded to saunter down the path she knew would lead her downtown.

____________________

The Seaside Cafe was a place she had to give humans credit for. Esther had only visited the establishment a handful of times before, and each experience had been quite heavenly. She was already imagining her meal, her mouth watering at the thought of the aroma of fried food, despite not having arrived there yet and wandering, quite lost downtown. Esther cursed under her breath. The hunger had created a monster in her belly, which she wanted nothing more than to relieve with something greasy from the diner she'd been daydreaming about. "Bollocks," Huffing, she slid her sunglasses up over her forehead and wiped a few beads of sweat off her brow, before her eyes landed on a familiar blonde-haired girl - a fellow siren. Laughter threatened to bubble up in her throat for no particular reason other than the fact that the girl seemed to be hobbling rather than walking. "Dilara!" Esther ignored the annoyed looks of passersby as she shoved past strangers to approach the girl, who, she only now noticed, was being assisted by a rather pretty boy with blue eyes and a pinkish nose, which could easily have been due to the cold. Her gaze lingered on him for probably a little too long as she spoke to Dilara, whose eyes widened in recognition as she looked at her. "Who's your friend?" Esther asked rather bluntly.

"Oh hi Esther," Dilara said pointedly, before adding, "This is-"

"Nathan," the boy intervened, his eyes glinting as he looked at Esther, "Funny. We were just looking for you." Esther couldn't help but smile coyly at the two. "Is that so? How come?" At this, Dilara shifted in her place before leaning in closer as if to share a secret. "The humans are holding some kind of meeting. I expected you'd want to be there to see it. Am I wrong?" the girl raised an eyebrow at her expectantly, to which Esther responded with a slow nod, as she realized what this meant. A town meeting? The first thought that entered her head was Lola, who she knew would appreciate knowledge of the humans' affairs. For now, she would serve as her eyes and ears - if she wasn't already there, that was. She was curious to see what this was all about anyway. "Thank you for telling me. I'll come with you then," she said quite earnestly.

Her eyes lit up, however, upon seeing the take-out box labeled 'The Seaside Cafe' in Nathan's hands, perking up almost immediately. "You wouldn't mind letting me finish that, would you? I'm famished."

A low, rumbling hum echoed inside the hollowness caverns of her rib cages as the sound bounced off the walls fro and to like a pin pong ball. But, along came the noise, there came a sharp pain as she hissed to herself. She could feel her stomach twisting and contorting in an uncomfortable manner as she placed a hand on her stomach, not sure of the reason behind such movements. Was she dying? Or was it something she. . ate? Merlin's beard, if she was dying, why now? Out of all the times they could have taken her they chose when she was on land! Great fortune she has, that's for sure. Whatever the case may be, Dilara scrunched her nose when Esther had asked Nathan if she could finish the "leftovers" from that cafe she had stumbled into a while ago where she bumped into Nathan. Glaring daggers at the bag in Nathan's hand, Dilara shook her head, "Please, go ahead. That. . .ball of delicious goodness would become the bane of my existence if I kept smelling or seeing it any longer." Dilara bit her lips, feeling 'land' sick already as she distanced herself from Nathan and the bag, inhaling and exhaling for some 'fresh' air.

Shaking her head, Dilara waited for Esther or Nathan to lead the way to City Hall feeling nervousness bubble up inside of her as she wished for the stomach pain to die down. Reminder: don't eat anymore human food for now. At least, until she could adjust better. . . no matter how delicious the sustenance smelled. As they began their trek once more, Dilara couldn't help but chatter endlessly about what she was seeing, already feeling the dread and weariness of her companions who were listening to her ramble on and on. However, now and then she could hear Nathan's sarcastic remarks to her when she walked "incorrectly", stumbling practically everywhere. For the life of her, Dilara couldn't get her 'legs' to work properly feeling as if her 'legs' had a mind of their own when they didn't listen to her 'orders' when she wanted them to 'walk' correctly. For the millionth time today, Dilara sheeplishly smiled at Esther, mumbling a "sorry" every few seconds for bumping or tripping into her. Dilara could feel the annoyance and slight aggression from her companions when she couldn't get the idea of 'walking' right. But, Dilara paid no mind and just shrugged her shoulders. Oh boy, if her parents could see her now they'd cough up a lung. Or rather, if the people of the kingdom saw one of their noble ladies strutting in the human world like an awkward turtle, they'd surely be displeased and disappointed. Nevertheless, Dilara decided to let that thought slip her mind as she refused to allow such thoughts ruin her day or rather. . . get the best of her temper.

Finally, the trio made it to City Hall as Dilara's eyes widened in awe. Her eyes flickered to and fro as she squealed excitedly, feeling her energy rejuvenating as she looked upon the human world in a new light. Oh, she could just look at the architecture all day! The walls and the exterior weren't filled with kelp or seaweed, however, she found beauty in the human world's unique "flavor" and details though nothing could compare to the beautiful seashells and corals under the sea. Turning around to look at Nathan and Esther, Dilara grinned, "Oh, pinch me! We're here! It's different than I expected, but a good different." She commented before any thoughts of asking why Nathan was in the human world and where Esther was staying slipped her thoughts. Practically dragging the two with her, Dilara hooked her arms with theirs, putting her in the middle. As much as she wanted to catch up with Esther and even Nathan about what was going on in their lives and to hear stories of their adventure on land, Dilara wanted to get to the bottom of the feeling she was having as she glanced at the skies once more.

City Hall was packed like sardines when they finally arrived. Dilara attempted to maneuver herself around the crowd making sure she was still close to Nathan and Esther as her arms were unhooked from theirs but she kept a tiny, small grip at the edge of the fabric of their shirt. She could feel the slight stares at her back as whispers of 'what is she wearing?' and 'does she know she's wearing it wrong?' could be heard in the crowd. Ignoring the pointed looks, Dilara sighed, "Let's try not to get lost in this hall or rather lose each other?" She questioned rhetorically, despite the people parting like the Red Sea when they approached, giving way to their path. Dilara gulped down her nervousness as she felt like a specimen under a light, not really looking the attention or "spotlight" the people were giving her, Esther, and Nathan when they approached. Nevertheless, Dilara shrugged her shoulders, loosening it as she attempted to relax, "Do you think we can get closer? I've been in the background for so long that I'd love to be able to make eye contact with a person in charge." Dilara reasoned, looking up to both Nathan and Esther as she pleaded with them. However, it wasn't long until Dilara's eyes wondered and she spotted some familiar silhouettes . . . two that she least expected to see.

Standing frozen like a fish stuck in a net, Dilara's eyes widened, her lips parting slightly as she looked across the room, "Talon. . .?" A small voice escaped her lips as she furrowed her brows in curiosity, wondering who the red-headed female was. But, her attention drifted once more as her eyes landed on another female, a loud, surprise gasp filling the air as she quietly whispered, "Lola."
. . .wait for me where the world begins

"Fuck!" Cyrus exclaimed, speeding down the jagged street curves in a dusty, worn-down Volkswagen van filled to the brim with empty beer bottles and tangled cables he hadn't used in years. The shaggy-haired, half-drunken male threw aside his unfoldable map, full of crosses and scribbled down notes which had only helped him get to the middle of nowhere, now having been driving past never-ending forests and cliffs with the ocean peering from his window.

Cyrus gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles turning snow white whilst glaring out the windshield, mumbling something about road signs and other trivial nonsense. The Siren had been on the road for many days now, having had made his half-assed escape from New Mexico, leaving a clone of himself in prison after arrest for theft from a convenience store, only to mess up his own magic from drinking one too many bottles of vodka and thus began his escape from the police and their WANTED list, pinning Juneau, Alaska as his next stop.

However, not everything went as planned, hence the situation he was now in. Somewhere along the way he'd made a wrong turn, maybe twelve, and was now just looking for the nearest place to wolf down a half-decent meal that didn't mainly consist of alcohol and whatever leftover garbage he had from his last food heist. Elegantly put, he had no idea where the fuck he was, and he was goddamned hungry.

In light of his growling stomach, Cyrus reached over to his passenger seat, waving his hand around looking for a snack to grab, his eyes still glued to the road. 'Fuck's sake, I swear I heated some noodles three beers ago,' he thought, moving his gaze to his right and continuing his search for nourishment. Bending down he snatched a cup of instant ramen he'd knocked over under the seat and sat back up, only to see a tree nearing itself faster and faster to his windshield and SCREECH! Cyrus slammed down on the brakes just in time, jolting in his seat and being thrown forwards, a centimeter of the car crashing into the tree, leaving a small but noticeable dent in the front, adding to his prized collection.

Not bothering to get out of the car and check the damage or throw another fit of rage over his own drunken foolishness, Cyrus quietly but grumpily reversed, the old wheels resisting against the mud for a moment, pulling back onto the road and praying for a sign of life, a gas station, a parking lot, anywhere where he could pull over and rest, not being keen on stopping in the middle of a random cliff or driving into the forest. Luckily, the latter wasn't necessary, Cyrus's eyes lit up with more hope than he'd had in hundreds of years as the silhouette of a small town came into view, just driving past a sign with the words 'WELCOME TO LACHRYMOSE, POPULATION 941' in peeling paint.

'Nine-hundred and forty-two,' Cyrus thought, a small grin appearing on his face, slowing down whilst arriving into the town streets, leaning forwards and squinting through his windshield. As it appeared, a moderately small mass of people had gathered outside the largest building he had seen yet in contrast to the otherwise janky and miniscule structures. Now somewhat intrigued, Cyrus came to a halt some feet away from the City Hall, parking his trashy vehicle somewhere that wouldn't attract too much attention, although with the several bullet holes, tinted windows, sprayed graffiti and stickers on the side, that was of course inevitable.

Slamming the door shut, his hands in his jacket pockets, Cyrus strolled over to the scene slowly taking in the township, just as a tall and slender red-haired woman sauntered up a small set of stairs, a large podium set up with a microphone. Cyrus popped a cigarette in his mouth as the Mayor tapped the mic, calling for everyone's attention. "How cute," he mumbled to himself with a smirk, easing into the crowd. He took a drag from his cig, turning slowly and eyeing audience looking up to the stage-

Theresa.

All of time slowed down in the seconds between dropping the cigarette from his mouth, to pushing bodies aside and grabbing the blonde by the shoulder with force. The girl stumbled, tripping backwards and meeting Cyrus's piercing gaze with confusion. Baby blue, just like hers. Cyrus breathed in sharply, tightening his deadly grip until he began to tremble. Shakily, he reached his other hand to meet her cheek, but before he could touch her face an angry voice pierced through the air. "Oi! What the fuck do you think you're doing!?"

Before he knew it, a fist crashed in his face, and everything went to static.

The trio of Sirens pulled up to the front of City Hall, Nathan walking observantly beside Dilara who had done nothing but ramble on about humans to the both of them, which he didn't doubt Esther was not the least bit interested in judging by her likewise silent state. The thin blonde made a rhetorical comment about getting lost, to which Nathan snorted half-heartedly. 'Trust me love, there's no way to lose sight of you,' he thought to himself, however not feeling the need to remind Dilara of her radiant, luminous aura amongst the presence of dull humans.

The three approached the front of the crowd, parting through easily with their intimidating stance, although Nathan wasn't looking at Esther on the opposite side from him, he had no doubt that she was either shooting daggers that would murder if looks could kill, or strolling elegantly with a cocky, yet sly smile.

Their pace slowed down once they were a relatively close distance from the empty stage, the show yet to begin, though in all honesty Nathan was starting to question whether coming to the scene was worth his time at all. Sighing, he pushed his toussled hair back from his face and tucking the other into his jean pocket. He flinched slightly at hearing Dilara's abrupt gasp, sharply turning his head and scanning the mob for immediate signs of danger. Siren? Mermaid? Police? What? What was-

His heart stopped.

It only took him a brief moment to recognize her. Her slender figure, those long strands of chestnut brown hair and the glow of her skin. Too many years, it'd been too many years, but never in a thousand years would he forget that face. It was as if he was frozen in limbo, his gaze transfixed onto the girl he'd loved and left behind decades ago and the hole it'd torn into his core ripped open once more. Emotions and thoughts and conflicts flushed over him, but he couldn't feel anything. He couldn't process it. The only thought in his mind; I never thought I'd see her again.

The moment didn't last. Nathan was snapped back to reality as a heavy body shoved him aside, the loud sound of a woman's voice interrupting his stream of thought, he stumbled to regain balance on his feet and angrily looked up to see who had pushed him. A broad-shouldered, tall figure stood in front of him, covering most of his view with his back, yet still being to see him clutching onto Dilara's shoulder who was visibly afraid, Esther behind her coming to her senses as well after the hard strike that had almost knocked her off her feet.

"Oi!" Nathan exclaimed, he gritted his jaw and stepped in front of Cyrus and clenching a fist. "What the fuck do you think you're doing!?"

Before he could utter a response, he swung at his face, a loud cracking noise erupting along with a fountain of blood streaming from his nose. Cyrus staggered backwards in complete confusion, dizzily lifting his head and touching his swollen upper lip. Realizing he was bleeding, Cyrus growled and curled his fingers, digging into the palm of his hand with shaking rage and lunging at Nathan. A bright icy blue flashed in his eyes, his pupils changing like a glitch effect and Nathan clumsily dodged his fist, realizing he was far, far from human.

Although the guy was strong, scarily so, his agility was faltering. Is this knucklehead even sober? Surely he would collapse any minute now, but his aggression was pushing him over the edge, and he wasn't stopping. Nathan managed to swerve aside from his punches, the reverberation of Dilara screaming at them to stop blaring in his eardrums. Nathan jumped backwards away from Cyrus and just as he looked up- he met with her eyes. Lola.

There was no time to react. Cyrus slammed him to the ground, knocking his head against the cement, a collective sound of gasps and yells sounding from the crowd who were now all watching the two boys at each others throats. Again. Slam. Nathan could barely make sense of what was happening when a blood-curling scream pierced through the air.

"STOP!" Dilara screeched. A series of thunders erupted from the skies, thick grey clouds forming into menacing threats. A powerful gust of wind blasted against Cyrus, sending him flying away from the Mermaid. Gaining part of his awareness back, Nathan struggled up onto his knees, one hand clutching his wounded left eye.

Heaving for breath, he spat blood onto the pavement, coughing and wheezing, feeling the pain from the damage sink in. Spitting out gore once more, Nathan turned to see Dilara shaking on the spot, completely petrified, now realizing what she'd done.

Eli Mare

Eli was out of it as usual and was standing in the very front of the crowd with a small, dazed smile on her face as she stood there. The large coat nearly swallowed her small figure and her hands were deep inside the pockets. She was as cozy as could be and enjoyed being in a crowd. Their chatter faded in the background for the most part as she daydreamed of far off lands. Talon disturbed her reverie and brought her from the sandy beaches of Australia to the dull grey city of lachrymose. Her smile grew more intense as she gazed at the mischief maker and curtsied in reply to his bow as if she was a grand duchess.
"This day and been absolutely splendid, truly. It's even better now that I have your companionship." Eli said in a bit of a British accent, but her laughter soon caused her to go back to her normal wispy voice.

"It feels like ages since I last saw you. Can't blame you, of course, we're from two different worlds." She tilted her head a bit as she thought about it. She often forgot about how weird their relationship was. A siren and mermaid? Highly frowned upon. Still, Eli wasn't much for labels or restrictions. She was about to comment once more but she heard shouts. Eli was too short to see over the heads of everyone and her curiosity was piqued, even if she did dislike violence. She wrapped her fingers around Talon's wrist and pulled him towards the source of the noise. She held her arm out in front of her as an effort to part the bodies around her like water but people didn't need to think twice as they saw the much larger person she was towing behind her. The crowd vanished suddenly and Eli saw a weird scene unfold in front of her. There were a lot of things to take in but Eli recognized blood quite easily. Her instincts kicked in and soon she was releasing Talon and running to the boy on the ground. She didn't stop to think that she could be in danger and instead kneeled in front of the boy who was struggling to get up. Warm, yellow light gathered in her palm but quickly vanished.
She didn't want to disturb the boy if he was a human. She had always been bad at recognizing mermaids and sirens alike on land, but as she saw the boy spit out blood she decided he would have an interesting tale to tell when this was over. The light collected in her palms once more and she was covering his eye while gazing into the other and then the small crowd around them.

She realized what she had gotten into when she saw the girl who looked like she was carved out of marble. Her beauty was incredible but scary at the same time. It was..ethereal. Supernatural. The glimmer in her eye was something that Eli had recognized in her own friend Talon sometimes.

Of course, she'd stumble into a group of sirens. Was the boy she was currently healing a siren as well? She didn't discriminate, but she felt like they would be happy to.
A bit of fear settled in but she was already invested now.

Carlo

Carlo weaved his way through the crowd of people with the flyers in hand with a bored expression on his face. This was the largest amount of people Carlo had been near in a very long time and he found it rather unpleasant. Still, he did enjoy the feeling of being with other people that didn't even know him. It was difficult to explain and the more he thought about it the harder it was to try to formulate into words. Perhaps the saying "she was alone in the crowd" was the simplest way to say it. His hand was catching a cramp from holding the flyers and nobody was very eager to take them. Carlo resorted to dumping them in unsuspected people's bags and even went as far to shove three in a baby stroller. The kid burbled happily and began chewing on it and Carlo had slipped off before the parent could notice.

The weather began to pick up and the wind was sending Carlo's bang (he had been planning to cut it for three months now) into his eyes and Carlo was spending more time trying to fix it than focus on his job. He finally decided to lay the flyers down on the ground as he tried smashing his bang down and curling it under his ear until people started running into him. One jostled his arm and ruined his hard work and Carlo let out a huff of annoyance.

Space cleared enough for him to see two figures fighting. Carlo was rarely involved in fights, especially ones between his kind. He sensed the weather was probably one of his own's doing and the humans had clearly noticed some weird shit taking place that they were scared of. Hell, Carlo would follow their lead. He ignored the flyers he had left on the ground and followed the panicking humans. One burly man shoved Carlo a bit too hard and Carlo's slim figure went flying into someone else's back.

It started before he could even speak.

Black tinted his vision and he felt like he was diving underwater but his body grew cold like ice. It was like he was watching a slide show and images splayed across the screen. He was now that person and he was at a lighthouse. Carlo's lighthouse. The body Carlo was in was tending to the light with a familiarity that could only be learned after years of doing it. The image changed again and he was with a stoic man that he recognized as his father, or at least, the father of the person he was in. The image changed again as Carlo was ruffling through some papers. Mariah Riddle, suicide. The image of his hands gripping the folder wavered as if it was a disturbed water and then the folder was replaced with the image of strewn papers and a pressing worry as the body of Elijah Riddle discovered his brother wasn’t truly who he was.

Carlo’s body let out a gasp as he finally gained consciousness and control of his body. His surroundings came rushing back and soon he was once more in lachrymose while thunder raged and lightning soon followed with a large crack.

Carlo faced the boy who was now supposedly running his lighthouse and the keeper of a very, very important secret with no words he could summon.

Talon chuckled as Eli curtsied back to him. Him and Eli were the strangest pair of friends. It's not like he didn't have other mermaids friends. It just that Eli was the first. The little lady came into his life and made it different. I mean yea other sirens and mermaids weren't too happy at the pair being friends but who gave a fuck? Like hell he would let anyone fuck up the great friendship he has with her. He wouldn't let anyone touch their friendship unless they wanted to be frozen. He smiled at her softly and said

"Well, it could be the same said for me." He frowned at not seeing her lately. With the anniversary coming up, he knew that relations between the two species would get worse. He didn't want to put the spotlight on Eli. He knew that she still live in her kingdom. Although she came up more frequently then most. He still couldn't risk her getting punished or ridiculed by the others. "I'm sorry about that Eli. You know how my world is. I don't want your kind to become suspicious. You know how they are about our special friendship. " He whispered to her. As she was about to say something else, shouts rang out. Eli being the curiously mermaid she was. Grabbed Talon and pulling him towards the disturbance. He hoped it wasn't what he thought it was.

When they got there. He frowned seeing a guy and Cyrus? A siren who is a legend having left the siren kingdom for the human world as well. The guy he could sense was mermaid. Fuck, if they keep fighting they would bring more attention to themselves. Eli was already on the ground trying to get to the guy to heal him. Cyrus was still attacking, so Talon looked at him and used his power to paralysis him for a moment. As Cyrus dropped to the ground. Dilara who he just now noticed who was there shouted and as she did, the weather changed.

Fuck, he thought. He looks at the surrounding humans and to the group. They needed to either get the fuck out of here, or play it off. Or Mermaids and Sirens pod leader were gonna kicked their ass. Their one rule is that humans don't know they existed. First he has to make sure Nathan was alright. Eli who looked worried that the guy was human. "Eli, he's not. One of yours. " He speaks softly to her and then he looks to the other pair of the groups. "Someone make her stop before both of our kind is on our ass. You know the rules. You are gonna get us all killed!"

was life some cruel joke?

lola was fine, curiously awaiting for the mayor to appear on stage and give her speech. no one had recognised her yet, which was a plus, and lola hadn't lost the tiny wad of money she stole from denise. as time passed on, lola was getting restless from standing still. a strange, tingling feeling slowly began to envelope her legs. lola furrowed her eyebrows together at her legs, strands of her hair falling on front of her eyes as she tried to figure what was wrong with her legs. did she get a bad pair? could human swap legs if they had a bad pair of legs? lola bit her bottom lip as her fingers felt the wad of cash in her jacket's pocket.

lola was on the verge of leaving when she heard a dangerously familiar accent in the crowd.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing!?"

lola's heart froze as she pushed through the crowd, earning dirty looks and a few curse words as she made her way through the human sea to where the action was happening. and there he was, his mop of hair flying through the air as he fought another man. soft gasps of fear escaped lola's as she watched the scene unfold. everyone she knew was standing right before her; her cousin dilara, her best friend esther and even nathan morte, lola's enemy and ex lover, was in the middle of it all.

lola's gaze flickered towards her cousin as she heard her yell, an urge boiled in lola's stomach to go rush to her cousin's need yet she had to stay hidden, she didn't want get involved in the mess they caused. lola would never allow herself to get her hands dirty, just like god, she would allow those below her do the work for her.

life was truely a cruel joke.

Esther hadn't been paying too much attention, having tuned out the blabber emanating from the pair beside her. The following events that ensued had been a blur to her, really: one moment, she was peacefully finishing the contents of the take-away Seaside Cafe box in her hands, and the next, it had been knocked out of her grasps, and she found herself within the parameters of what soon developed into a brawl - a chaotic thrashing of lanky limbs involving her previous companion and what appeared to be some shaggy-haired weirdo, who was pummeling Nathan relentlessly. Who even was this guy? Irritation seemed to ripple through her forehead as her eyebrows creased, quickly trying to scan the room before her, almost as if to assess her options.

Beside her, she could see Dilara, could practically feel her erratic breathing as her chest heaved in agitation, her scream piercing the air, and the consequent shift in the atmosphere. A quite literal one, at that too.

Esther moved in an attempt to calm her down, but winced distractedly as Nathan expelled a mixture of spit and blood onto the ground, the crowd surrounding them appearing to have the same reaction as the siren. She grimaced at her choices. The sky above her seemed to grow more violent by the minute, which she knew could only be attributed to Dilara's frayed nerves. Well someone would probably have to do something about that, she thought grimly, as the sky darkened into a threatening color that resembled tar. But that someone was going to have to not be her right now.

The crowd surrounding Nathan was growing in number, prying eyes glued to the altercation unraveling before them, yet still keeping their distance as not to get sucked in. Esther had to shove past a few people despite having been at the front alongside Dilara merely moments prior, but as she rushed towards Nathan, a doe-eyed girl with wild curly hair had already appeared by his side. Questions rose in her head as she found Talon following suit, hovering nearby, and she shot him a look of confusion. "Maybe you should try calming her down if you're such an expert," she said hoarsely, trying to lower her voice, despite not having tried comforting Dilara herself. She had never been good at that kind of stuff anyway, and would probably have only fed the flames if she attempted to help the girl.

As she returned her attention to Nathan, she and the doe-eyed girl made eye contact right as Esther's gaze landed on the quick but noticeable warm light which emanated from the girl's palms. Esther's eyes darkened in recognition. She shot her a dirty look, as if to threaten her for a second, before hastily rising to her feet to deal with the the other, bigger threat at hand.

The shaggy-haired stranger staggered towards Nathan, evidently in a drunken stupor as his bloody fists hung by his sides, obviously ready to charge again. Esther bristled in hesitation before striding towards him, the thought of whether what she was about to do was worth it along with many others flying through her head, as she blocked his path. Without a moment's hesitation, Esther grabbed the man by his face, her eyes piercing into his.

"What're you..." he began, his voice faltering. For a fraction of a second, fear boiled in Esther's chest as the thought of his rage concentrated towards her plagued her mind, but the knots of anger in his face seemed to disappear as he absorbed the warmth of Esther's hands on his cheeks, her face becoming the only thing that he could see for that moment. She looked into the sad blue eyes, voice gentle and low, "Calm down." At her beckoning, his shoulders loosened and his fists unclenched. He was slowly falling under her spell, she could tell, - but right when she thought he would submit completely, something in his gaze changed. His eyes stirred, as if having been awakened from a deep slumber. "N-no," his voice came out shaky but firm, as he tore his gaze away from hers.

Something must've distracted him: perhaps the glint in her eyes had betrayed her and disturbed him, for the next thing she knew, her eyes filled with panic before she was thrown to the ground, and there grew a stinging pain in her cheek and the metallic taste of blood sprang in her mouth. "Fuck!" an obscenity she'd heard humans use most slipped from her lips as the pain throbbed in her cheek, where he'd struck her. She cupped it with her hand. The redness, she knew, would turn into a bruise soon enough, and the blood swooshed around in her mouth as she ran her tongue along the open wound. Lying on the floor with a bloody mouth, a busted lip and a bruised cheek, Esther glowered at no one in particular as she thought, almost dully, that she should've just tried to calm Dilara down instead.

"Elijah," Nina spoke, breaking the awkward silence looming over them that he had so dreaded, he looked over and raised his eyebrows in response. "What do sheep count when they can't sleep? I mean, if we- humans, count sheep, then do sheep count monkey? Or maybe cows, cows would be pretty funny to count, what do you think?"

Elijah slowed down in his tracks and blinked at Nina for a moment, soaking in her baffling question and the blabbering that came after it, amused yet also suddenly intrigued at the same time. He picked his pace back up, scratching the back of his neck in confusion for a few seconds, then looking back up at her and smiling. "Wolves that want to eat them, maybe?" he grinned. Nina laughed in response, flashing him with her dazzling smile, that damn smile, he could stare at it for ages and never get tired, so mesmerzing and-

Oof. Elijah stumbled backwards in slight confusion, having run straight into a tall and hard figure standing before him, his eyes wide open with a strange look he couldn't quite decipher.

Elijah extended his hand to touch him on the shoulder, worried he might have hurt or shocked him, but the boy jerked away and let out a loud gasp, immediately locking eye-contact, almost as if breaking out from a trance just as the sky above them cracked with thunder. He took a step back and tugged Nina behind him, concerned that the guy might be some wandering freak having an episode judging from his focused expression on him, like he was searching for something in his eyes.

"Elijah, are you okay?" Nina asked, shuffling from behind him, her hair still dripping wet.

"I'm fine, sorry, I wasn't look-" he began to speak, but didn't get to finish sentence, interrupted by another loud strike of lightning that seemed to make the ground tremble. The three staggered to keep their balance, Nina grabbing onto Elijah's arm as a deluge of rainfall began to pour down. Loud screams erupted from the crowd huddled before the Mayor and people ran, tripped and pushed past them to get out of the way, racing to immediate safety as soon as possible. The ground shook again with more violence and several lampposts situated along the streets blinked furiously before cutting out completely, he could hear the Mayor attempting to speak words of reassurance, but the scene had already turned to chaos.

Elijah raised his arm to cover his eyes from the harsh torrent, pulling Nina closer to him and turning to the boy who had yet to talk. "We need to get out of here before it gets worse!" he yelled over the thunderclap, that only kept growing louder and louder...

EPISODE ONE, PHASE TWO

DATE: September 9th, 1994
LOCATION: Lachrymose, Alaska
WEATHER: -2°C | 28.4°F , INTENSE RAINSTORMS WITH LIGHTNING & LOUD THUNDER

PLOT
Looks like the emergency town meeting didn't quite go according to Mayor Florence's plans, a panic has striken the citizens of Lachrymose all gathered outside the City Hall having witnessed a brutal brawl among a band of strange newcomers, followed by a violent storm crawling over the sky. In fact, it just may be the second most horrendous weather catastrophe this small, once peaceful town has ever seen, after Hurricane Fjord. Trees being ripped off from their roots, lampposts shaking back and forth in the wind, bikes and scooters being torn away and crashing into the sides of buildings and the air filled with screams, yet admist the chaos a tall and slender figure makes its way gracefully through the havoc, how on Earth was this possible?

No time to answer, you better find a place to hide quick! Or the storm just might take you with it.

OBJECTIVES & GUIDELINES (OBJECTIVES CAN BE SPANNED OVER SEVERAL POSTS. THEY DO NOT NEED TO BE ACHIEVED ALL AT ONCE.)

HUMANS:
⌲ Your first objective is to grab onto the person(s) nearest to you and find a spot to protect yourself from the storm, which is currently over the CITY HALL (Point A) and spreading to THE DOCKING BAY (Point D). Possible locations to flee to are THE SEASIDE CAFÉ (Point E), miscellaneous stores and buildings DOWNTOWN (Point C) or inside CITY HALL (Point A).
⌲ Your second objective is to find an object or a weapon to defend yourself with. What was that figure and how was it striding so calmly? You probably don't want to find out empty-handed.
⌲ Your third objective is to call your loved ones, friends, family, whoever is most important to you. Are they okay? Are they safe? Fuck, why aren't they answering the phone? Too late, no service, battery dead. Do you 1) STAY PUT or 2) GO LOOK FOR THEM?

MERFOLK:
⌲ The storm is growing by the second, so your first objective is to think fast and move, there's not much time. Three of you are wounded and one is drunk, do you 1) HELP TAKE THEM WITH YOU SOMEWHERE SAFE or 2) FLEE BACK TO THE OCEAN?
⌲ If you chose Option 1, possible locations are THE SEASIDE CAFÉ (Point E), miscellaneous stores and buildings DOWNTOWN (Point C) or inside CITY HALL (Point A).
⌲ If you chose Option 2, you'll be running into some unwanted company on the way, prepare yourself or bring someone with you.

GENERAL:
⌲ The figure walking through Lachrymose is THE CAPTAIN (NPC) and her crew of Mermaids, they will be moving from THE SHORE (Point B) to the CITY HALL (Point A) crossing THE DOCKING BAY (Point D) and DOWNTOWN (Point C). Running into this group is inevitable if you choose to flee.
⌲ The Captain and her gang has arrived on a mission, they will be coming in to Lachrymose with 14 Mermaids, and leaving with 14 Mermaids and 7 Humans. It's up to you whether you can save them, or yourself.

Good luck.

Carlo

Carlo's chest was still heaving and his body felt like it had been electrocuted as he tried to gather himself. The boy who had caused this was giving him a concerned look while the girl next to him had the same facial expression. Humans really had a thing for staring and it's what annoyed the hybrid the most. Still, he was just as curious about the boy. Elijah. He was a bit miffed at this frail human taking it upon himself to watch Carlo's lighthouse. Carlo did that already...kind of. All you really needed to do with it was station yourself in front of it near the water to make sure mermaids and sirens alike didn't get close to it. Carlo had even added a tunnel that led to the ocean he had concealed. Did the human boy know about that? Carlo eyed Elijah warily as if he didn't know whether he wanted to lunge at him or not until a giant boom of thunder rocked the earth and lightning lit up the sky with a ferocious light. It was time to go.

The humans were still staring at him until the weather grew worse and shook the earth. Carlo had seen storms such as these in the ocean, the ones that made twenty-foot waves rise and crash down that could destroy ships with ease. This was no different but Carlo wasn't exactly in his element and this storm was being fueled by an angry siren or mermaid. He heard Elijah's frantic yelling above the commotion of the storm to get to safety. Carlo honestly wanted to return to the ocean and swim away from this commotion. Mermaids and sirens together always led to a disaster, but then again he felt kind of tied to the place. He couldn't let these idiots tear the place to the ground. Carlo huffed in annoyance and then turned to the humans. Without a word, he nudged them towards the rows of shops.

"We can take shelter at the Seaside Cafe." Carlo said in a gruff voice that could barely be heard over the storm. People were still running and panicking so Carlo kept a hand glued to the smalls of Elijah and the girl's backs as they made their way through the crowd. They almost got ran over someone with an electric scooter and Carlo had to grab the back of their shirts before they got plowed over. The rain had started pouring down and Carlo's hair soon was drenched and his clothes were clinging to his body. Carlo opened the door to the cafe and the three of them rushed in. The temperature was warm and the restaurant smelled heavenly and Carlo wrung out his shirt before turning to the other two.

"If you have anyone you care for, I'd get in contact with them. This storm is nothing you've seen yet." Carlo said as he turned to the window near a booth and tried fixing his wet ringlets. A few people entered the cafe and soon were stomping their boots and wringing water out of their clothes just as Carlo had done some moments before. Their chatter about the events prior was a little too loud for the hybrid's liking and he shot them annoyed looks as he sunk into the booth. The employees were scurrying around in a frenzied panic as the lights flickered overhead and the T.V hummed as it showed nothing but static. Carlo would have preferred to evacuate somewhere much farther than downtown lachrymose but hopefully, the storm would die down after someone got the person who caused it calmed down.

Nina slowly stopped when Elijah paused to think, her bony fingers grasping the hem of the long-sleeved shirt for comfort. She wasn't one to feel anxious, especially when it came to questions like this but, in the back of her mind, there was a wave of anxiety crashing down on her. Her heart raced as Elijah smiled and voiced his opinion, only causing Nina to snort with laughter, "That's a grea-".

As Nina spoke between her snorts as well as gasping for air, she felt Elijah's body tumble into hers. She quickly flicked her attention towards Elijah, making sure that he was alright. Her eyes quickly glanced to the man who caused Elijah to stumble. Nina couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at him, glancing up and down as Elijah tried to make sure he was okay. Nina jumped slightly at the sound of the stranger's loud gasp, causing her heart to jump with shock and her hair to stand straight. Who is this guy? Nina thought to herself silently as thunder erupted above them, the sound loudly echoing in Nina's ears as rain began to pour. The young woman nodded as Elijah's voice roared over the loud rain, a sharp chill ran down her spine as Nina's clothes began to stick to her clothes.

Nina followed the strange man to the Seaside Cafe, still questioning who he was. The sounds of people screaming with fear and the Mayor's calming words surrounded Nina as she quickly raced inside the Cafe after Elijah and the stranger. Her long arms wrapped around her chest as a wave of warmth enveloped Nina, water dripping from her soaked clothes. "Buddy, who ar-" Nina stepped forward with an annoyed tone in her voice but the stranger quickly left before she could speak up. "Estupendo," Nina rolled her eyes as her nails began to dig into the skin of her palm. Nina watched the chaos that unfolded in the cafe, the familiar voices of Giovanni's and his mother's arguing was nothing new to Nina. She spun on her heels and faced Elijah, locking her eyes with his. "Got a plan, Captain Elijah?" Nina asked with a raised brow as she began to wring out the soaked hem of the shirt.

Talon frowned as the storm grew worse and worse. Nothing was calming down the girl who was causing it. People were running for cover. Trees were getting pulled from their roots and it was about to be the second worse hurricane. He looked around seeing the group including him, standing in the eye of the storm. Knowing that it would get worse then it is. Lights were already getting shattered from the wind, and telephones poles were about to fall. He spotted Lola who was of course not doing anything remotely helpful. One of the reasons he didn't like sirens or mermaids is that when shit goes down. The leaders disappeared like fucking smoke.

"We got to get out of here. " He mumbles to himself. Like hell he was gonna leave Eli out here. Right now, she wasn't going anywhere that he wasn't. He looked around but found nothing. The only place he thinks would be protected would be his place. It's reinforced steel or some shit. Hopefully, that would keep her and him safe. Talon grabbed Eli, pulling her from the mermaid. He looked to the others, and shouted to them through the wind and everything. "Get the fuck out of here. Grab her and go. Before it's too late. " They would have to deal with the after math later.

And there will be an after math. One unlike any other. He glared at the two boys including Cyrus. Again his mischief would be stopped and ruined. He would be called to the siren kingdom after this no doubt. The only issue is, if a war happens between the sirens and the mermaids. He's not fighting. Fighting is what makes messes and ends people fun. Which is something he tries to stay away at best. Fun is what he is, and what he does. It pisses him out that they fucking messing with it. "You two fucking shut the fuck up, and do what is best for our combined species life to keep going. The whole reason this fucking happen was because you two scared the fuck outta her. "

Talon started to run. He made sure to grab a tight grip on Eli. As he moves around dodging objects and people. The storm worsing, as rain rained down heavily. Things were flying around, and poles and lights were following. All that was on Talon mind, was getting Eli the fuck outta here.

Eli Mare

Eli's hands were glowling like a mini lightshow as she focused it over the man who had been injured. He had been struggling to get to his knees but Eli's gentle grasp of her hands on both sides of his face kept him down for now. She was fully aware of the surreal sirens behind her as she worked and she was honestly afraid of what they would do. She wasn't a judgemental person, but some sirens truly were evil or at least willing to harm mermaids simply because they were mermaids. Her nerves were shot at this point but she kept her shaky hands leveled with the male's face. The blood dried and the wound from his busted lip closed. She moved to his nose that looked like it was pointing in the wrong direction.
"This might hurt," Eli said and wasted no time popping the man's nose back in place and immediately turning her healing light on it.
The weather was picking up now and Eli could barely see as the wind sent her hair whipping into her eyes. When the rain starting pelting her, she used her powers to create a bubble around herself and the man where the rain couldn't touch them.

She was working on the cut above the man's eye when a firm grip on her arm pulled her to her feet. Her gaze met the furious expression of Talon who was glaring at the crowd around them and Eli noticed the nervous energy dancing at his fingertips. If Talon was unnerved, then the situation must truly be bad.
The two were off soon after and Eli's short form was pretty much being dragged by Talon. The cobblestones were slick with rain and mud that was forming giant puddles and a telephone pole almost crushed them as it fell with a groan. Eli was focused on redirecting the rain so it wouldn't lash against there skin and get in their eyes.

She could tell Talon's uncertainty to where they should take refuge and Eli decided to take over. She saw the familiar restaurant among the cluster of buildings and directed the two of them to it.
The bells above the door jangled as they rushed in and eyes fixed on them. Unlike most of the others, they were dry but everyone had the same nervous expression. Rain thrashed against the windows and the wind howling was the only noise that could be heard. There were no familar faces among the small crowd that had gathered and Eli stood a bit closer next to her siren companion.
"What exactly are we going to do next?" Eli asked, her voice barely being able to be heard over the commotion of the storm outside.
