  INTRODUCTION.​

  
  The year is 2092. In the bright bustling metropolis of Heartbeat City, some stability has been achieved after a discovery that shocked the world to its core ⁠— people developing powers. The exact date of this occurrence hasn't been pinpointed down, but it has been at least twenty years since this development. Since the Change, some people were born with their abilities, others developed them later on in life. But the chaos that ensued from that point forward left the city in shambles, in which the echoes of it can still be seen today. The dead are mourned, but the city has been rebuilt, brighter than ever. Skyscrapers gleam in the daylight, but the nighttime is illuminated by neon, just as bright.
  
  Despite the Change being such a prominent event in history, people with powers still seem to be a minority, making up around 5% of the current world population. Many continue to live in hiding from the social stigma, the hate that people harbor after witnessing the chaos. The bright lights and shiny new neighborhoods are a bit of a facade; there's still rampant discrimination against people with powers. Criminals run unchecked through the midnight streets, with plenty of organized crime, and a heavy police presence all around. If you know where to look, late in the night, you can find underground fight clubs, speakeasies, harboring safe havens for the career criminals of the streets. The biggest gang running the streets is the Hell Hounds, who've made a name for themselves since the huge effect of the Change. But, Heartbeat City prides itself on the fact that many of the world's most popular superheroes have emerged from its ruins, providing a smiling face and a reassurance that no, not all powered are ne'er-do-wells.
  
  Society currently hangs in a weird balance, unsure of the future to come. Superheroes assure the public that everything will be alright, but violence and crime runs deep in the roots of the city, and the police's control continues its stranglehold on the powered populace. And what no news program seems to cover is the fact that people are disappearing.

  The Change: A worldwide phenomenon that occurred approximately 20 years ago, where around 5% of the population began to develop superpowers. This threw everything into chaos, with an extreme spike in crime, assault, murder, and deaths. Many people developed powers that they could not control, and either hurt or killed themselves, or others. Because of the insane spike, the world’s police forced and governments scrambled to gain control. The duration of the chaos varies region by region.
  The Change marked the existence of superpowers. Anybody still alive after the Change now has the potential to develop powers, and everybody witnessed it firsthand. Any babies born during or after the Change also have the potential to develop powers now. Heartbeat City was almost burned to the ground by the time things slowed down, and like a phoenix, began anew. Many homeless shelters and camps popped up as the city slowly rebuilt itself, with new governmental positions put into place, and systems of identification and labeling of superhumans arose as well.
  
  Superhero Work: The superheroes of Heartbeat City work for the local government. To become a certified superhero, individuals interested must enroll in Audax Corde Academy, the name translating to bold heart in Latin. After four years of rigorous training, honing their abilities, and learning skills from disaster relief to detaining villains and criminals, the academy's graduating class is always small but their graduates are the best of the best. Becoming a superhero means being thrust into the public's eye, and many heroes are lauded as high profile celebrities as well.

  Hello and welcome to our little interest check. This roleplay, as you can probably already tell, has a variety of influences! Neon noir has been a huge influence for this, as well as Cyberpunk 2077, Bladerunner, and some metahuman movies and comics, such as Marvel, DC, and even My Hero Academia. If you've seen this before, don't fret! This roleplay idea was something I did a while back, but the group kind of dwindled, and I really wanted to start up this idea from new. So here we are. This roleplay will be ran by erzulie and I! Please feel free to ask either of us any questions.
  
  The main idea of this roleplay will be focusing on the life of our characters in Heartbeat City, a huge metropolis of anything you can imagine, based around the east coast of the United States further in the future. When one walks through the city, there's a clear divide between the ultra-rich in their ivory towers, and the lower class working hourly jobs. While there are still prejudices against powered people, superheroes exist as a juxtaposition, and fight against criminals and protect the general public. Its your choice whether you'd like your character(s) to be powered, regular humans, and where their loyalties lie. Whether they are a hero themselves, a part of the criminal underworld, or even a vigilante. One thing is certain; a mystery is afoot. More and more powered people are disappearing, and the public is turning a blind eye.

— Strong but silent, Yin is intimidating and has an air of sureness and confidence that only an experienced hero could have. Despite looking unapproachable, she is a genuinely kind and caring person, the kind of hero that helps someone carry their groceries home, or walks an old lady across the street. The city is corrupted, Yin knows this, but she's committed to making change and using her visibility as a positive example for others. Being in the public's eye for so long, Yin's social life is basically moot. She knows how to fight and protect, how to strategize and be victorious, but actually connecting with others and having relationships is far out of her depth. Yin has been the city's most popular hero for the past couple of years.​

POWER.

— Kinetic absorption. Yin is able to absorb and store kinetic energy from contact, and redistribute it. For example, if someone punches her, she is able to redistribute the kinetic energy of the punch and hit someone back twofold. Control of her power comes from years of arduous training, ensuring that she doesn't hurt people or herself in day to day life. It is a constant balance. Absorbing enough energy can raise her body's temperature, making her able to withstand hotter temperatures for short amounts of time, and Yin can be seen in fights to literally let off plumes of steam from the heat.​

STRENGTHS.

— Yin is already physically a strong and skilled fighter, and even more so with her abilities. Her fighting is intense to witness, a display of absolute strength and speed. It gives her one hell of an advantage in hand-to-hand combat and one on one fights.​

WEAKNESSES.

— The after effects from her abilities mean Yin can hurt herself, internally and externally, if not careful. There is a limit to how much energy she can absorb and expel, and she can cause damage to her muscles, lose stamina, and even burn herself from the heat. Examples of his are evident from the burn scars on her shoulders. Her fighting is also a bit limited; if Yin cannot touch her opponent, she can't really fight.​

BACKGROUND.

— Born to loving parents in Heartbeat City, a fact that most of the public doesn't know is that Yin was born a twin. She came into the world alongside her sister, appropriately named Sun due to her albinism and light blonde hair. Her parents were hard workers, doing their best to make ends meet, while her and her sister lived life as normal. But at a young age, she saw when the Change hit the city, rocking it to its very core. Barely eleven years old and her world was thrown into chaos. It wasn't long until their neighborhood was gone, simply obliterated. Individuals with powers were rampant, but the terrifying factor was that most of them couldn't control their powers, and if they could, they used them to do whatever they desired.
The last memory Yin has of her father is watching him stand amidst a large street, surrounded by dust and debris, before a building crashed down upon him. Rocked by the loss of their father, Yin, Sun, and their mother managed to survive together in homeless centers and friendly homes, terrified of what was to come. Yin was a child with too much power all of a sudden. Her powers came violently, leaving the young girl a ticking time bomb. It was a miracle she didn't kill someone, or hurt her own family as she slowly but surely learned her own strength. As the fighting calmed down, and rules and regulations were more heavily implemented, they were finally able to settle in a small apartment and Ji-Hye soon found work. At eighteen, after constant training, Yin signed up for her hero certification.​

FAMILY.

— Park Ji-Hye ;; Yin's mother, whom she financially supports and cares for when she's not doing hero work. Yin and her mother are close, and she knows her mother is proud of her work, despite being shocked and disgusted when Yin first developed her powers at a young age during the Change. Despite their rocky past, they have made peace with each other, and Yin knows she can confide in her mother.

But, one thing is certain: she has the same thirst for justice as Yin. However, Sun's idea of executing justice is much different. The blonde has recently resorted to vigilantism, and will let nobody stop her.​

— Molecular combustion. Sun is able to accelerate the molecules of an object, increasing heat and friction to the point of combustion. The target can be both organic and non-organic. In combat, she uses this to create small grenades or bombs to attack her opponent with. Achieving combustion is much more successful if she can actually touch the object she's targeting, but with enough mental and physical energy, touch isn't necessary. ​

STRENGTHS.

— Sun's power gives her a good advantage in both distance and hand-to-hand combat. It's a strong power, and by now, she's got plenty of control over it. ​

WEAKNESSES.

— Her power eats up a lot of her physical and mental energy, meaning she can't use it a lot without plenty of rest and fuel in between. This also causes her own bodily temperature to increase, and a common side effect of her power once she's caused plenty of explosions is that her hands are searing hot.​

As they moved from shelter to shelter, accepting the aid offered to those displaced, Sun realized her powers were truly meant for destruction. Her touch was lethal. She could kill a person by merely shaking hands with them. There were times where Sun and Yin couldn't even be in the same room as each other - it was much too dangerous. As the fighting calmed down, and rules and regulations were more heavily implemented, they were finally able to settle in a small apartment and Ji-Hye soon found work. Sun watched her sister enroll in the academy, and soon rise through the rank's as the city's top hero. Yin was always the better child, more mild mannered, heroic, caring, a calming presence. Sun was too brash, too irritating, too sarcastic. But she knew that she could do good - deep down, Sun has always wanted to do good, even if her powers said otherwise. Now, after a few nights of fighting crime and vigilantism, Sun is pursuing her own path.​

— Dressed to kill, Edward is almost always seen in a crisp black suit, shiny dress shoes, nice cuff links, and a slick tie to match. He doesn't always wear black, but that's his most common everyday wear. On fancier occasions, he could be caught wearing a smooth velvet suit jacket, usually in dark colors like deep reds or purples, or perhaps a tastefully patterned suit. Doesn't like anything too bright or gaudy. Also usually sports rings on his fingers, a nice watch, and sometimes sunglasses. Nonetheless, Edward can always be found dressed to the nines.​

PERSONALITY.

— Edward is the kingpin of Heartbeat City, and he's not afraid to flaunt it. Suave, well put together, and level-headed, he's proved his worth as the leader of the Hell Hounds time and time again. The man knows what hard work is, and has fought every day of his life to get to where he is now. Street smart, knows his way around a wide arsenal of firearms, and a quietly cocky bastard. Edward is extremely proud of his gang, and has dedicated his entire life to conquering. With all the wealth he's accrued over time, Edward has a taste for the finer things. His demeanor is charming and quite likable, given his terrifying reputation as a gang leader for over twenty years, the kind of guy you could sit down and have a drink with (as long as you know your place).​

— He's the most notorious kingpin of the city, running one of the oldest gangs in Heartbeat. Evil.​

— Intelligent, suave, knowledgeable in firearms, extremely good fighter, driven, physically strong.​

POWERS.

— Impenetrable skin. Edward developed a physical mutation during the Change that granted him impenetrable skin, a power that is able to be turned on and off at will. His mutation makes him impervious to almost all types of damage; bullets, knives, needles, scratches. Really anything that could break skin. When "switched on" his skin is similar to teflon, giving a matte metallic appearance. The shift to protect his entire body can take 30 seconds at most, but Edward can also focus on it to protect certain parts of his body. He can keep a full body protection up for the better part of an hour. It's proved very useful as he's asserted his Hell Hounds in Heartbeat City. ​

STRENGTHS.

— His ability makes him almost impossible to kill, and Edward has certainly used it to assert his dominance in Heartbeat City. His power makes his skin not only tough, but thickened as well, and he's a heavy hitter and physically strong.​

WEAKNESSES.

— Edward's power does not make him invincible, nor immortal, as most assume. His skin is not completely impenetrable, and heavy hits can still affect him. Extremely powerful kinds of firearms or bullets, or even a bazooka, would definitely hurt him. It takes extremes to be able to pierce his skin. When hit by bullets directly, bruises are left behind, and something like a point blank shotgun blast could knock him out. His eyeballs and mouth are weak points as well; Edward's ability only covers the outside of his body, and so the inside flesh is still vulnerable. Stabbing his open eye, ingesting poison, or causing some kind of internal damage can certainly be used to hurt him.​

— Not much is known about Edward's past; the beginning of most people's knowledge of him is when he first formed the Hell Hounds. Freshly changed within the chaos, his new abilities allowed him to fight his way to the top, slowly but surely. Edward formed the Hell Hounds at 23 years old, and ever since then, has claimed territory around Heartbeat City, engaging in new business ventures. His gang could be considered more like a mafia by now, but Edward considers the streets his home, the crucible of humble beginnings.​

— Edward has no living family, nor any biological children (that he knows of.) However, his Hell Hounds are like family, and depending on their time and loyalty within the gang, are treated like his own and cared for. In his own special way. He's still an asshole.​

It was as if she and her club appeared overnight, and she certainly seems cozy with the Hell Hounds around. The gal is adept at keeping people at a distance with her wacky persona, and it seems her closest friend is Hades himself.​

Given that sound is able to travel through air, ground, and water, her power is a versatile tool that can be deadly if she wants it to be. But, it might be a small miracle for Heartbeat City that Yah Yah isn't much interested in flexing her abilities beyond creating music.​

— Yah Yah can successfully mimic any person's voice after hearing them speak at least two or three sentences, like an eerie parrot. She can also change the pitch and volume of her own voice, as if a mixer is specifically built into her throat, meaning her singing and music can always be perfectly in tune. There is also the fact that she could deafen or cause internal damage with intense frequencies.​

— Her abilities, while very deadly, are limited only to what sounds she is able to produce. If restrained and gagged, her powers are essentially null. Yah Yah must also take great caution when in fights; she hasn't actually trained much for combat or confrontations of any sort, and there's a good chance she could cause internal damage or damage on her hearing unto herself if not careful. BACKSTORY.

— Born in Johannesburg, South Africa to a poor family, Yah Yah did not have much growing up. The third child amidst her four siblings, her parents weren't doing much to try and keep them afloat. Her father was a washed up jazz musician, and her mother was scarcely home enough to care about making them a meal, Yah Yah and her brothers took care of each other instead. The moment they were old enough, Junior and Enzokuhle both began to work, and helped get Yah Yah and Arno out of the streets and into a little ramshackle place of their own. The Change had shook their world only months before Yah Yah was even born, but her powers did not fully set in until her mid-teens. Eventually, the girl grew tired of life in Johannesburg, and soon moved to Heartbeat City. Who knows how she even had the funds to open her club, or the chops to run a business, but its going really well so far, and Yah Yah is enjoying every second of it. Having made friends with Edward Shaw, him and his Hell Hounds have marked the club as part of their territory, and many members (and even Shaw himself at times) can be found there during the night.​

— How does one get to know Frank Augustin? As in, actually get to know his personality, who he really is when he's not ruining the lives of Heartbeat City's elite? It's a puzzle to solve, really. Frank is an extremely secretive man with plenty of facades that he changes on a whim. Smart as hell and basically a criminal mastermind, he can have people under his thumb easily if he so wanted. To most, he's charming, slick, quick witted. Extremely hard to trick, but also extremely cocky and has an ego the size of the damn city. He knows the power he holds, and exploits it as much as he can to live a lavish, rich life.​

But, Frank cannot shapeshift into any form his heart desires, only as a perfect doppelganger of whoever is unfortunate enough to meet him. Ingesting someone's DNA ensures that his form lasts even longer, and he's able to 'keep' that person's appearance to shift into again for more or less two weeks.​

BACKSTORY.

— Born in San Francisco to his single mother, Diana Augustin, the woman expected to have a single daughter. That was the plan, until Frank was born barely a year after Fiona was born. The twins have never met their fathers, nor has either ever made an effort to ever be involved in their lives. Instead, Diana did her best to raise her son and daughter, working nights in order to take care of them during the day. For the most part as kids, Frank and Fiona lived comfortably. Their mother made good money managing a bar, though the workload was excessive. The kids were practically attached at the hip throughout their early years as they went through school.

They were little shits, of course. While their mother slept after her long shifts, they'd play out in the streets, exploring whatever they could, hanging out with the bad kids, things like that. Fiona was more or less on the right path; she had more morals, knew when to stop the fun and be serious for a moment. She tried her best to be the responsible older sister. However, Frank's powers began to manifest at a young age. The Change had rattled the city only a couple years earlier, forcing them to move multiple times. His sister knew of his abilities, of course. And so, Frank used his powers to his advantage, using it to scare the other kids in the neighborhood to give them money, treats, anything of value. At Frank's insistence, she kept his powers a secret from their mother.

His mother discovered his endeavors eventually, when police officers came to her door in search of her son. Security cameras showed Frank, slowly slipping out of someone else's appearance, bleeding from the shoulder after a shootout at a bank. He hasn't seen his mother or sister since, and is a full blown career criminal now in Heartbeat City. He's notorious for impersonating others when it comes to largely public crimes, such as bank robberies, and he uses his powers to their full extent.​

Dina is the, or at least was the daughter of South African immigrants. Her parents had come to America for a better life, and they were able to settle pretty easily. The two of them were hard workers and managed to start a little laundromat service after some time. Things seemed perfect for them and only got better when her mother fell pregnant. The pregnancy was a joyous occasion and celebrated. Things were great until she turned five years old. Dina began to change before her parents horrified eyes. Her appearance became more snake like, she her teeth razor sharp and her eyes became pitch black and slitted. Malik grew up in a crime infested neighborhood. Gang violence was a major problem along with robbery and shoot outs. He lived with his mother and grandmother, his father was a deadbeat who didn't want the responsibility that came with creating a child. His mother working three jobs in order to provide for him and his grandmother worked one. It was hard for them. They were poor and could barely afford food on the table. It was easy for Malik to fall into the street life. As a child he believed that it was cool. He'd see young men with nice things and without a care in the world. Unbeknownst to him at the time in order to achieve this they would have had to dirty their hands. The fact that he had powers also made things hard for him. People looked down on him for it, they often feared him. The change affected his family greatly. While his mother remained unharmed his grandmother passed due to it.

The gang life had ensnared a large amount of young men, including Malik. They treated each other like family. Something that the young man loved. It wasn't long until he found out about the dangers of gang life. Malik figured out that in order to have nice things he would have to start selling drugs. The temptation became too great. With the money he would be able to take care of him family. So he joined the Hell Hounds. Joining the ranks until he managed to become the second in command and enforcer. Malik was taken under the wing of the leader, and under him he thrived.

His reputation grew for better and worse. He went back to his community, giving back and helping those who struggled. But at the same time people grew to fear and respect him because of his ruthlessness.

history:

Alonso has been involved in the crime world since he was only a boy. His father a notorious mafia leader and his mother a mafia princess. As the oldest son of six it was his duty to take over once he became of age, however he didn’t want to. Alonso has no desire to take his father’s place. He believed that it would be restrictive, boring even. But as someone who respected his father immensely he went through the proper training to eventually take the throne. Things changed however when his father was killed during a war between a rival family. At the age of nineteen Alonso was forced to take over and he did so flawlessly. But as he predicted the life was bland, he couldn’t do as he pleased, he would eventually have to marry some mafia princess and have babies. That, however, was not the life he wanted. So he began to conspire with his siblings and mother. Alonso would allow his brother to take over and he would go on to live his life.

The plan was to go after those who had killed his father and fake his death after dealing with them. And so the plan was struck and he died. Alonso found that he liked hunting people down, and so he became something like a personal assassin for his family before eventually branching out and becoming a professional mercenary. Life was great for him during this time. He could travel and not have to worry about the responsibilities of being a Don.

Alonso continued his career path and built a fearsome reputation for himself in Italy and surrounding areas. That was until missions brought him to other countries where he made a name for himself there to. When the change happened Alonso was thirty. It was hard on him, nearly killing him like many others in the process but he prevailed and thankfully he hadn’t changed that much. He was devastated when he learned that his mother and youngest brother had died due to it.

He continued on with his life however. Alonso worked for no one but himself, using his power to earn money. Life began boring for him after a while and dare he say, he began feel lonely.

It was during a mission that he came across his protege and daughter. He’d just finished disposing of one of his victims when he’d caught the scent of her lurking in the alleyway, waiting and watching. Leo had went about his business, not surprised when he saw her getting ready to pick pocket the body. From then on he seemed to see her more and more, pickpocketing and stealing to survive. It wasn’t until he happened to walk through her alley that he decided to take her in, even after she tried to steal from him.

And so he taught her about her gift. Instead of hating what she was he taught her to embrace it and use it to her advantage. Given her appearance homeschooling was the only option, the two traveled together, expanding their knowledge and becoming a family. Once he deemed her ready he introduced her to his world, teaching her everything that he knew. Finally the day came where he had to leave and for how long, they didn’t know. He's quite cunning and has an unknowing habit of observing people before approaching them.

While Vincent comes across as a stoic man, he does have a sense of humor and can joke around on a good day, granted he's in the company of the right person. 【background】— Born and raised in Heartbeat City, Vincent had been exposed to violence since birth. Gunshots rang through the night, headlines of murders occurred frequently, and a fistfight could be seen from the windows every other day. Being the eldest of four, he assumed responsibility and watched over his siblings while his mother was away working two jobs. He loved them all the same, even if they were a major pain in the ass at times. The Wolfe family somehow functioned while being dysfunctional.

Even though Vincent wasn't the purest kid, he was an idealist at heart. He dreamed of making a positive difference in the justice system and he wanted to protect the city from the chaos that damaged it. With the money his mother saved for his college funds, he studied law as soon as he graduated high school. Things were looking promising for Vincent, as he was on his way to becoming a full-fledged prosecutor.

Then the Change happened. A rampage like he had never seen, strewn across every corner of the city and the world. He lost his family and his home in that turmoil. Everything—gone. And the police did nothing. Vincent changed too, in more ways than one. He would soon come to realize his newfound power when he started to lead the life of a criminal. He went from being an amateur thief, to an effective hitman, then to an arms dealer for the Hell Hounds. Vincent found comfort and joy in the grip of a weapon. It was a far greater passion.

He became the kind of man he once swore to put behind bars, but he didn't care. That was the old him, a naive kid who didn't know any better, and that version of Vincent died with the rest of his family. He never once looked back to being a "good guy" because why would he trade something so fun for anything else?

【background】— Despite having a home that was financially stable, Kat's childhood was unbalanced, to say the least. Her stay-at-home mother constantly drank herself into a dazed stupor for a reason she didn't know. Her father wasn't emotionally invested in his family and only bothered to bring food to the table and pay bills on time, but nothing else. Kat mostly had to depend on herself, and to her surprise, that was rather simple. Lonely, but simple.

Then the Change ravaged the world and she and her family managed to survive, just barely. She couldn't recognize her power at first. She thought her small fortuities were due from mere coincidences, but once she willed a stranger to trip and fall on their face, she realized what she was capable of. Not that she told anyone of course. However, her luck was due to run out at some point. She lost her left arm from an attack of a looter when she was eleven years old; it was severed off from a machete and she nearly died from blood loss. To this day Kat doesn't know how she survived, but she had to adjust her life to a new disability.

After the turmoil subsided and Seattle was slowly recovering from massive destruction, Kat and her family traveled to Heartbeat City for better opportunities. Her mother died from alcohol poisoning while she was in high school, and her father took it hard. Kat helped him through his grief and he realized how precious life was—he was more caring towards her. It was because of his support that she was able to find a career in law enforcement.

Four years as a police officer made Kat yearn for something slightly different. Something more solitary. So she became a private investigator, and she now works for a detective agency that's closely affiliated with the police department.

BACKSTORY: As previously mentioned, Mari was born in Old Los Angeles before her block got demolished by a bad crime mob from one of the local gangs whom destroyed a major part of the East End of Los Angeles. At the age of 11 she was a migrant to the great city of Heartbeat City, where without their previous security and jobs, her parents were able to scrap by in the East Side, where she remains to this day. Although her parents were protective of her, they left her unattended for a lot of her childhood and as she got older, although she still takes care of them when they need it and respects and loves them, isn't as close to them as some families. She had a little sister, who didn't make it in the process of their move to Heartbeat City. After she turned 18 she got her own job at a cafe on the Northside and has been living in a small flat in the East End by herself ever since.
RELATIONSHIPS:
1. Mother (Deceased): It was very hard for Mari when her mother died a few years ago. Although they had a relatively good relationship, she regretted not spending more time with her and getting to know more of who she really was at the end of her life.
2. Father: He is living alone in the flat, and that is jut the way he wanted it after her mother died. He preoccupies himself with mechanical work and selling electronics on the side. He is smart enough to always get by well.

PERSONALITY: He is reserved and quiet. He's very level headed and reasonable, a very logical being who always thinks fast and first. He is relatively easy to get along with on the surface, but can be very rude and brash towards people if he feels like he is being attacked or taunted. When his father went to prison for trying to get revenge for her death by tracking them to the nicer part of the and falling right into their trap, a coy who was able to rat him out and send him in prison. Ever since then he had to stay with distant cousins who didn't give him the time of day. As soon as she discovered his powers in his early teens, he used it to help him get into the East Side, in a small flat. He is a freelancer who takes jobs from local con men and other anti-government people.
RELATIONSHIPS:
1. Mother (Deceased): He doesn't like to think about her or talk about her. She is like a good dream, and he wants to keep her from being in his reality. She was the only thing good in his life before she died, and he was so young when that happened. She will always be the person he loves the most.

— Uriah Bentley Banks -- Uriah is the middle child of the Banks siblings. He's 85 years old and is also still living around the Detroit area. Lionel was always closer with Uriah than Virgil. Uriah used to visit a lot more and has even met Milo a couple of times.

— Rosanna Banks -- Rosanna was Lionel's mother. Lionel was always a mama's boy and inherited his nuturing side from her.

— Phineas Banks -- Phineas was Lionel's father. While he wasn't as close to his father as he was his mother, Lionel still loved and looked up to his father. He says they both had a hand in making him a good person.

— River Torres -- River Torres was Milo's ex-boyfriend and someone Lionel absolutely could not stand. River was a pathological liar and Lionel didn't want to get involved or tell Milo who he could and couldn't date, but eventually he had to put his foot down and tell River to screw off and stop manipulating his son.


【Background】
Lionel Anthony Banks was born as the third and youngest son to an older couple in the suburbs of Detroit. Rosanna Banks was a little disappoined she never got a daughter and Phineas was neutral on whether or not they had a son or daughter. Virgil, who was 9, and Uriah, who was 3, were both more than happy to get a little brother they could show the world to.

Lionel's hoarder tendencies started young with rocks, shifted to nut crackers, and after a visit to a thrift shop he became interested in antiques. After graduating high school, Lionel went straight into the work force, spending the majority of his money at garage sales and oddity shops. He was in his late twenties when he left his family behind to go to Heartbeat city to buy a cheap space and open up shop.

"Out of Date" was what he called it. It wasn't very popular but Lionel made enough cash to be able to support himself doing what he loved.

Lionel met Maxine when he was 30 years old. He'd gone into town for a night out to drink and meet up with some friends. They'd brought along a high school friend named Maxine and immediately Maxie and Lionel hit it off. He'd dated before, but never had he felt the way that he had about Maxie. Lionel brought Maxie back to Detroit during the holidays to introduce her to his parents and siblings, who all liked her a lot more than they liked Lionel's trash collection. Not even two years later, he asked her to marry him and she said yes. She moved in with Lionel above his shop and they ended up tending the store together after Maxie quit her waitress job.

Soon after settling in together the two tried for their first child but Maxie had a miscarriage. They tried again a couple of years later and she miscarried again. It put a strain on their relationship when they had to accept that they couldn't have children. They were getting much too old to try again. Maxie moved out for a couple of months during this time but eventually they rekindled their relationship and continued on stronger than ever. They talked about adopting, but eventually decided against it.

When Lionel was in his 50s, his father passed away and the heartbreak had his mother soon after. He spent most of that year in Detroit with his brothers.

The Change and its chaos happened around the time Lionel was 62 and Maxine was 59. Lionel's business somehow survived but Maxie did not. A man wielding fire powers had burnt her alive.

Milo came to Lionel as a miracle just a couple of years later. He was the child that Lionel and Maxine never was able to have to Lionel raised him like his own son. The only thing that could've made him happier was if Maxine could be by his side.

Lionel doesn't have anything against those with powers despite what happened to his wife. He was open to helping Milo get his under control.

However, once the supply runs dry he won’t be able to use his powers anymore until the next charge. In addition, the electricity can be conducted through other conductible materials, but otherwise his powers are practically useless. Makana Missing never wanted a child but she managed to get pregnant from one of her many one-night stands. Milo was born prematurely but prevailed, only to have to face the horrors of The Change while growing up in Heartbeat City's south. With just his mom and him in a small home, she was always working trying to scrap up enough money for food and drugs while he was left to fend for himself. Makana never hid her drug abuse from her son, but when she overdosed he was much too young to know what to do when his mother wouldn't wake up. To this day, Milo can't stand needles or flowery perfume.

Milo was nine years old when Lionel Banks nearly shot his hand off. He'd wandered into Out Of Date, an antique store filled to the brim with all kinds of wares. Positive the old man hadn't seen him slip a pair of gold and gaudy earrings into his pocket, Milo was halfway out the door when Lionel grabbed his arm, whisking it out of his pocket and pressing the barrel of a glock to the back of his hand.

"Where do you think you're going with that, boy?" Lionel snapped and Milo broke down in tears because he thought no matter how the interaction ended, he was going to die. Steal and sell to survive was a trick he'd learned from the other kids in his neighborhood and it wasn't working.

Lionel could be harsh but had a strong moral code and was surprisingly nurturing. It didn't take any convincing for him to take in motherless child under his wing, giving him a more responsible figure to look up to rather than forcing Milo to look out to the streets.

Milo proceeded to help Lionel tend to his shop and live with him above it and things had gone relatively smoothly up until Milo turned 12. It was when his powers developed and he first noticed that getting shocked didn't hurt him. The next order of business was figuring out how to control the flow of electricity. Several power outages later and he pretty much had it down.

When he was 18, Milo met River Torres from the West of Heartbeat City. He became a frequent visitor of Lionel's shop and asked for Milo's help enough for it to be suspicious. Eventually he sprung the question of a date onto Milo who hesitantly agreed. That was the beginning of an on-and-off relationship for the next three years. River showed Milo the beauty of loud techno music, flashing lights, and getting drunk in public spaces. It was fun until it wasn't. River had a difficult time taking "no" for an answer and the sight of needles lead to a power outage at one of the clubs they often went to. Lionel got involved afterwards and River never showed his face again.

It took some time for Milo to head back to the clubs, but eventually he did. They were lively and addicting. So, his time is divided between staying out late, tending to the shop, and taking care of the elderly Lionel as needed.

  Fire bending is one of the four element bending powers existing. It allows the individual to create flames of different sizes shapes and temperatures. Although the scientific research is still in its beginning, it's assumed that bending fire has its root in great desires and wills to accomplish tasks. An element of great warmth and care but also destruction. For fire benders the power is easily approachable in moments of emotions such as anger and frustration. Noah is able to use his fire bending with his hands as well as his feet as the connection between spirit and body. He can also absorb heat from the environment.

His power is incredibly useful in hand-to-hand combats since he's able to injure his opponents easily with little energy. Water and humidity is his biggest weakness as performing fire bending is incompatible when his body is exposed to wetness. He's never got the chance to fight a water bender though.

  background.
  Noah was raised in the local orphanage in Heartbeat City. He was left at the doorstep of the building when he was still a baby with nothing but a bright red blanket and a small name tag saying 'Noah'.
  
  His biological parents were nomads in a circus called 'Noah's Ark' touring all through america. Unable to provide for the child and also lacking responsibility, they decided to give him away since they were still very young too.
  
  From this point he grew up in the midst of many other lost children, each day exploring a new adventure. The staff of the orphanage took loving care of the kids and Noah prospered to be an active young boy despite craving closeness to role models he could call mom and dad.
  
  When the israeli couple Ela and Aviram Galinsky visited the orphanage, they fell in love with the now six year old Noah and just his bright smile and the gap between his milk teeth left them in delight.
  
  Ever since they’ve adopted Noah, he brought a lot of happiness to his parents but just as much chaos. His power started to show itself when he turned eight and he accidentally set their apartment on fire more than only one time. But the Galinskys loved him still and decided to find out more about the origins of his fire bending and together they slowly and steadily could give the boy more control over his own actions to prevent any dangerous situations.
  
  Growing older Noah ‚Avi‘ Galinsky grew interest in protecting the country with the gift he was given. By enlisting to the military right after graduating high school, he first started to learn the art of strategic combat and the basics of fighting.

Although he loved his work back then, he still felt restless. At the age of twentyfive, Noah applied to complete a training at the Audax Corde Academy for superheroes. He had to trick them for a long time and they still don't know about any of the crimes their only boy has committed. They are clueless. Also they are typical Asian parents. They want their boy to marry a nice girl and settle down but that isn't going to happen.

Max and his childhood friends all grew into criminals of various levels. As a drug pedaler, Max climbed the criminal ladder quickly. Most of his friends are thugs for hire. Some however did become musicians, work normal jobs and others are in jail. He still loves those guys however. His old school friends are quite accomplished in their fields and his uni friends all became business people and are living their best almost rich lifestyles.
-Dating-
Max has had some flings here in there but no fully fledged relationships spanning months or years. The longest relationship he had was Roxie Field for 5 months during his senior year of high school. It was mainly him trying to show everyone how straight he was. Spoiler alert eighteen year old Max. You be gay sometimes.
-Enemies-
There are a few drug runner gang's that are trying to do what Max and his crew are doing but they suck ass. They aren't proper enemies. Now Graham from Human Resources can fuck off. He's never met someone who he wanted to strangle more than that know-it-all. Not to mention the childhood bullies that hurt his friends. They could fuck right off. Max was serious about holding grudges. Nothing would ever stop him holding grudges.

Max was born into a fairly typical lower class Asian American family. He was taught from a young age to study to get a better job and support you family, to marry a nice girl and give them grandchildren. However the kids Max hung around with hated what their parents constantly preached at them. From a young age him and his neighbourhood friends would get into all sorts of trouble. From messing around in class and loitering in the streets to more serious things like pickpocketing and sneaking things out of stores. This was when he was about nine years old. Eventually Max pickpocketed the wrong people. He was caught trying to steal from the right hand man to one of the city's drug pedalers. He ended up being kidnapped by a bunch of thugs and taken to the boss and right hand man themselves. He was interrogated by a huge muscular guy who almost killed him until the power hidden within him awoke. He froze the man's fist and seeing the power this kid had, Mr Dread had more pressing matters the boy could help him with. Long story short, Max became a drug runner for The Hornets before he even turned ten years old. He was quickly roped into how to work the system, control his powers, conceal the drugs and avade police for a long time. He started doing well at school. The Hornets valued a good education. He worked as a drug runner until he turned 17 when he was upgraded to interrogation, security and execution. Mr Dread liked Max. He was Polar Bear as a successor to the gang. You see Mr Dread was old as was many of his senior staff members. The only senior staff member was Polar Bear. Everyone accepted the new leadership of Polar Bear any time soon. The youth were the future. Max ended up going doing a business management degree at university and opened a bank account to hide his money he got from the gang from his parents. He used to have to spend his money very quickly but now he could save and invest money in more viable things. He ended up moving out of his parents house to live alone when he was 22 and even got a job working as an assistant manager for the right hand man's accountancy firm. For about three years his life was very stable. He worked for the firm, helped out his family, was a tough guy for the gang, kept in shape, remained in contact with old friends and didn't date to avoid complicating things. His family eventually started wondering how he made so much money. He just had to lie and say that he worked a lot of hours to create a stable future for his family. Everything was great until Mr Dread was on his deathbed. The stress of running a drug pedaling ring got to him. He granted leadership of the gang to Polar Bear and the younger members of the gang. Many older gang members didn't want to be apart of the gang if Mr D was gone so the gang went through a transformatory period. The Polar Bear became Mr Kay and the right hand position went to the former capo. Young tough drug runners and some inforcers became senior gang members and the cooks remained the same. They got a legion of new young runners in and the Hornets became the Blue Hornets under Mr Kay's leadership. It's been a few years now and the gang is doing better than ever. Even former gang members are impressed. The Blue Hornets were respected drug pedalers and were known to be vicious to those who gave away information or allowed the gang to be weakened. Mr Kay didn't take anyone's bullshit and the gang remained strong from it. He even became head manager at the former right hand man's firm and had ties to many different people. Mr Kay was the Ice Prince and Mr Chiattachai was a real business man.

Will had a wide variety of different t friends when he was younger. From nerds to punks to even the jocks, Will was well liked when he was younger. As he got into high school, he started to focus even more on school than usual. This lead him to be excluded from group activities like parties. Still, he had a few people who stuck by himand being valedictorian allowed for him to be recognised by those people again. In the police academy, Will once again wanted to be the top dog. They had powers and they were trying to hide them from their colleagues but it didn't work. Will was born into a family of service men and women. His mother was a firefighter and his father was a doctor. He was often taken care of by his uncles and aunts, most of which were in law enforcement. He had a lot of friends growing up and was quite popular and smart. He knew from a young age he wanted to be a police officer like many of his family members but they didn't want that for him. Still, his persistence held firm. He lived a very normal childhood and his teen years weren't that exciting other than being valedictorian. He liked video games and was adaptable to new ones. However he still wanted to be an officer so his family gave in and sent him to the academy when he left school. Graduating top of his class he was happy to be a cop. However when he became one he realised how corporate and corrupt it is. He wanted to change it but when it felt like everyone was lying to him. He eventually told the chief of his feelings and suggested that he might have superpowers like many of the young people nowadays. He said that because he thought people were lying to him to test that theory. He started asking people about things and he soon realised he knew when people were being genuine about the things they said. However, the chief used having deduction powers as a means to fire him. Having a young officer with connections all the way around the city could threaten the chief's son's position. The chief's son was a likely candidate for the new police chief but if people with powers became better officers then that would threaten the chief's family security. He said that having powers in the police force was dangerous and managed to rally enough people behind him to fire the young officer. Angry at the deseptive actions of these people, Will quit and with two fellow officers with powers decided to open up a private investigator firm, just the three of them. Will was chief detective and on interrogation, Riley Adams was on crime scene investigation with her Psychometry and Jose Miguel Juarez was on online information gathering as his Internet manipulation power made him a sitting computer. They three of them became a good team and for the last two years they've been solving missing person cases, doing background checks and tracing known criminals. They've gained a small reputation and even been on the news a few times as 'Heartbeat's Smallest Private Investigation Firm'. Why they couldn't just call them by their firm name, AJS Investigatons, they had no clue. Still, Will was happy he found a job that meant he could help people without having to deal with the nightmare that was the police force.

Wire Manipulation - Woven into Juliette’s body are thin metal wires. They’re thin yet deadly sharp and able to cut through things that they shouldn’t be able to. Juliette can produce these wires from different parents of her body, though she typically uses her hands.

Juliette’s power is a great offensive and defensive ability depending on how she uses her wire. They’re strong and sharp enjoy to cut through most things like rock or metal and also able to throw or bind objects. Her favorite method would have to be using them to control people, much like a puppet master. She can also use the wires stitch herself up or use them as a shield. The wires are thin, thus hard to see with the untrained eye and aren’t able to be cut.

Weaknesses

Juliette can only control so many people at a time before it becomes a disadvantage. If she’s out in the open Juliette needs to focus on her puppets. She’s quite vulnerable once someone gets pasts her wires. There’s also the matter of distance, her wires can only reach about six and a half meters before they’re pulled tight.

Isabelle Gabriella Duprè - Juliette’s older sister by a minute or so and her closest friend. Since they were children the two of them have been close. Juliette is protective of her sister which often leads people to believe that she is older. They two of them can talk to each other about anything and are always there when one needs a shoulder to cry on.

Raynell Duprè - Former Louisiana pastor, she hasn’t been that close to her father since her powers manifested. She loves him dearly but knows that he treats her differently because of her ability.

Bernedette Duprè - Juliette was close to her mother as a child and looked up to her. She enjoyed spending time with her, often following her around like a baby duckling. The two of them have grown apart since she got her powers however.

Juliette was born in the small town of Natchitoches, Louisiana to an upper middle class family of four. As the daughter of a well liked and wealthy pastor and his socialite wife Juliette was also held in a higher regard than most. They were required as everything a proper family should be, two loving and in love parents with their well-behaved children. The four of them were close with one another. Affection was given often and they spent as much as they could together. Juliette enjoyed spending time with her sister and mother. Helping out with the laundry or playing dress up. They’d even get into trouble like any other kids. Oftentimes Juliette would be scolded for taking her mother’s pearls or playing in her makeup.

Out of everyone however Juliette adored her older sister Isabelle the most. They made many fond memories, from staying outside until the street light came on to playing in their favorite wildflower field and cloud watching, only giggling wild as their mother scolded them for the flowers in their hair and the grass stains on her pretty clothes. People would never see one twin without the other.

When the change happened the small community was hit hard, people lost loved ones and crime rates began to rise. This led to increased police presence and tension between the upper and lower classes. The community regarded those with powers as monstrosities and abominations, people punished by god for whatever sins they’d committed. Thankfully Juliette and her family seemed unaffected. But that changed years later.

If started out with body aches, Juliette began complaining at them and her sister followed soon after. Regular medicines did little to help and the symptoms began to worsen. Soon she complained about the feeling of something beneath her skin, she felt as if something was slithering inside her, done to her organs and bones. Her skin had inched terribly and her veins looked as if they were pressing against her skin, trying to break free. Soon the girls were taken to the hospital and it was then their life changed forever.

With Juliette doctors discovered that her body had developed metal wires inside. The wires were woven into her very bones, into her organs and attached to vital parts of her. There was no way to remove them without her dying. Upon further examination the wires were shown to be razor sharp and near invisible. Juliette was placed within the system and sent home. Eventually the pain stopped. News traveled fast in their small town and it wasn’t long before the family fell from the grace.People treated them differently, children who Juliette once played with were told to stay away from her and her sister, as if something was wrong with them. People stopped going to her father’s church since he had refused to try and “fix” them or disown them. Her mother lost many friends as she continued to love her children unconditionally.

Things came to a head one day on the playground. Juliette and her sister had been playing when approached by a group of children. Juli has been fine with ignoring them, pretending that they weren’t there and continuing to play with her sister. That was until one of them had pushed Isabelle. Before she knew she lashed out, cutting one of the children with her wire. Juliette remembers grabbing her sister and running as adults descended upon them.

After that the treatment got worse and they had to pack their bags and move. Despite their reassurances that it wasn’t their fault Juliette noticed her parents treating her differently, more cautiously than Isabelle. Where Isabelle could craft beautiful clothes with her ability, Juliette could not. She knew that her parents loved her and that they couldn’t help their fear so she tried not to let it bother her. As years passed Juliette learned to control her power and use it to her advantage.

juliette nicole dupré: isabelle’s (barely) younger sister, and her best friend since birth. they’ve been attached at the hip since infancy. due to some incidents in the past, and her more outspoken nature, individuals tend to believe that juli is the elder. the two scarcely bicker and know they’ll always have each other.

raynell dupré: a former esteemed pastor fallen from glory, the two’s relationship is mildly strained. while isabelle is aware that she and her sister will always be their father’s babies, she is also deeply in tuned with the fact that their powers causes their father an immense amount of strife. she doubts he’ll ever again be as affectionate as he was in their childhood.

bernedette dupré: isabelle was once the apple of her mother’s eye, and thankfully, due to her tolerance, the two are still close. (isabelle feels this is mostly due to her being able to make delightful, one-of-a-kind fashions for her oh-so-vain mother).

background: isabella was born at the peak of afternoon sun in a natchitoches, louisiana hospital, and reveled in the luxury of being an only child for about three minutes and forty-seven seconds. her family was delightfully well-off: a respected pastor and his dutiful, sweet socialite wife, with a big house and sprawling lawn and envious neighbors. things were perfect. they were the epitome of a flawless, southern poster family, and times were simple. sunday dinners and scoldings from momma for the two siblings staining their pretty church gowns, hands sticky from too-many-figs and feet covered in dirt.

as was the case in most places, the change hit their small community hard. there was death, crime, tension, increased police presence. but the dupré family was strong in their love and faith, and all remained quite similar to how it was before. for a time.

it began with aches and pains. this was not bizarre for isabelle, who had frequented hospitals her entire life with a myriad of illnesses and difficulties. but for juliette, normally the picture of health and fitness, to be experiencing the same discomforts? it was bizarre. traditional western medicine did nothing, and symptoms worsened. it was though her veins were attempting to bust from the tight confines of isabelle’s skin, and the pain grew so great for the girls they had to be hospitalized.

x-rays revealed something odd: thin, flexible threads all throughout her body, playing tag with her nervous system, forever moving. they could not be removed. they, too, were special[/].

news in small towns spreads like wildfire, and the traditional folks around them were not kind. their family fell from glory. but it was okay, because the family was still filled with love, and still, things were much the same where it mattered.

until one day, when isabelle and juliette were playing, much like children do. other children, bitter, cruel, taunting, came to disturb them, calling them names. the two ignored them. schoolchildren were cruel, but you never stooped to their level, their momma would say. but no one likes to be ignored, and so, isabelle was shoved to the ground, scraped and crying. the next moment passed in a blur, and juliette’s wires were out, there was blood, screams, tears, yelling, adults.

they moved soon after, for the safety of the girls. isabelle learned that she could craft with her threads: gorgeous fabrics, and her parents were amused, delighted. she was pleased. she felt fulfilled.

Eva's not the person to throw herself out there, but she's also not the kind of girl to hide away from the world. She has a small amount of pride of who she is, but there's always that voice in her head that's telling her otherwise.

Sweet and kind when it matters, but there's a big part of her that'll throw manners away to get what she wants needs. She grew up cautious of those around her, careful not to trust the people who wanted to use her, but not careful enough to get sucked into the first person who showed the most considerate amount of affection.

She cares quickly, and that's another yet flaw that leads to her recklessness. Although seemingly completely human, the girl has the courage of a superhero on the outside, anyway. Eva has the tendency to tease and be witty with the people she gets along with. When she's upset, she known to get hypocritical and find the words that would hit the hardest. It's nothing personal, she's just sensitive in that way. And there's nothing that hurts more than the truth.

Evanna's more than sure whatever she got herself into, is way more than she could handle. But it's not like she's all that ready to give up.

Strengths: Eva doesn't have many strengths beyond using her own wit. She has the ability to piece together information you wouldn't even think would be related. Why she didn't become a detective alike her father baffles her mother. There's no saying a human can't do the same as a super-powered one. As long as your hearts in the right place... well, what could go wrong?

Weaknesses: Eva's claustrophobic, so she has a fear of small spaces. But it's not as though that's one of her biggest weaknesses, in-fact, it's the smallest problem compared to anything. Evanna's powerless, barely knowing hand-to-hand combat-- or any, in that case, is bound to get her into trouble.

history:

It all started with a bubbly blue-eyed baby girl was born to none-other than Nicole and Drake Kingston. They didn't have much, the family was resided to the 'rougher' side of town. The south of town wasn't necessarily the safest, but Nicole never truly had a fear that anything would happen. Drake Kingston was Heartbeat's newly appointed detective-- and there's nothing he cared about more than his family. The first few years of Evanna's life was generally pretty simple, and overall easy. She always had a knack for creativity. Making up silly stories she'd tell to her parents whenever bedtime was afoot. Her mother who taught at the local public school, they were a happy family. Most of their time together had gotten cut short when her father went undercover for a nearby gang that's specialty was selling illegal weapons, whether they were cyber weapons or not, his goal was to find out who was bringing them to the public and how. His job got significantly harder after the change. There isn't much she remembers about it other than her family being a little more than afraid. Special abilities just meant that there was a bigger chance of power getting into the wrong hands, and Drake witnessed that first-hand.

Evanna was only around twelve or so when she lost her father. Something about confronting of one of the old gang members he used to know, there was a major possibility that, his 'friend.' is also the exact same villain who was terrorizing the south side at the time. And the police deemed it necessary that Drake was the only one who could've gotten close to him. So, Drake set off with a well-appointed hero to an attempt to track him down. Unfortunately, on the way there, Drake was shot and dead in the matter of seconds. The hero? Well, they didn't mention him in the 'official' story, which was, the old group he was investigating had found out that he was a cop. A quick drive-by to get revenge on the man who locked him up for around six or so months. But that didn't make any sense. How would they have known? Her father's identity was one of the most kept-secrets in that department. He's been under a different persona since she was born. The real story? No one's really sure. But Evanna isn't too keen on any powered beings after that.

Why would a hero allow someone to die?

Nothing about it sat right with Evanna. Nothing really did after that. Eva and her mother moved to the safer side of Heartbeat City, her mother had retired a few years in, and Evanna was off to study at the nearby college for a bachelors degree in journalism. Why? Maybe it was something about the way the media covered up any inch of the truth just because powers were a thing. Maybe they had their reasons. They were afraid, they were covering up for someone, or... they genuinely didn't care. Her goal to show the world the truth no matter how ugly, how dirty, or how difficult it would be to handle. The truth hurts, yeah, but lying was something that hit the world harder, even if they haven't realized it yet.

Recently, Eva's number-one source in all powered-related news went missing. And that wasn't like him whatsoever. Sure, he wasn't the biggest of all heroes, or... the greatest. He was merely just someone trying to make his spot in the world. You'd be able to find him attempting to fight with any of the 'bigger' heroes, and trying his best to help out where he can. So... maybe he wasn't a real hero, maybe he might've even been a vigilante-- but none of that mattered, He was someone she trusted, and with Evanna and superheroes? Her trust went as far as a baby taking it's first steps. Edro wasn't the type to bail on Eva, they'd been friends since fourth grade.

Whatever happened to him isn't something she's taking lightly, she's intent on finding out the truth, even if that means risking her own life to get it.

  in her human form, emiri appears as a beautiful, poised young woman. she's slim with long legs, and carries herself in swift, elegant movements. her facial features are sharp and feminine, her large, deep brown eyes, high cheekbones, and plump lips giving her a dark, sultry expression which was her signature when she was still doing modelling. her thick, dark brown hair tumbles all the way down to her mid-back in voluminous curls, though she'll occasionally straighten it.
  
  when she shifts forms, however, emiri becomes a creature of nightmares. her skin becomes grey and leathery, with her entire body covered in dark brown, coarse fuzz. she develops razor-sharp, bat-like teeth, along with two lateral incisors which are so long that they poke out from under her top lip. her eyes become completely black, with no visible sclera, and her ears become extremely large and pointy. her feet also grow in size, and her toes lengthen into finger-like digits with sharp talons at the end, which she can use to grab onto objects and hang from. most notably, her arms turn into bat wings (reference: man-bat from dc comics) which are membranous in appearance and attach to her torso.

  《 alignment 》 chaotic neutral. she lives in shame of her own powers and tries to suppress them as much as possible, and thus doesn't use them for good or evil. she does harbour a lot of anger towards humans, however, and she's eager to get back into a position of power, so she could easily be swayed into a life of crime.

  upon first meeting her, emiri often comes off as outspoken and self-confident: a quick-witted woman with a snarky, sarcastic sense of humour. while the occasional snide comment might rub more sensitive individuals the wrong way, she can be exceedingly charismatic when she wants to be. she's very aware of her own charm and loves to get attention, giving her a naturally outgoing, flirtatious personality which has aided her considerably in her job as a nightclub entertainer. it may come as a surprise, then, that emiri is deeply mistrustful of everyone she meets. the speed with which all of her previous friends turned against her after they found out she had powers has resulted in a cynical worldview, believing that everyone always has their own 'angle'.
  
  she rarely allows herself to form any meaningful connections, and also holds a great deal of bitterness for both her current situation and the stigmas that landed her there... and that's because emiri truly believes she's destined for greater things. at her core is a fiery ambition and a thirst for authority - and the means by which she gains authority over others are often morally questionable at best, since she's not above playing dirty to get what she wants. she's extremely attracted to power; it's no coincidence that she positioned herself at a club which caters to the most influential criminals of heartbeat city, after all. she's just waiting for her chance to join them.

  in her bat form, all of emiri's sense are enhanced: she has a heightened sense of smell and incredibly acute hearing, as well as the ability to use echolocation. furthermore, she is able to see clearly in the dark, and has enhanced agility and stealth. she is able to fly at low altitudes and can use her claws to scale walls.

  she's not fully in control of when she shifts, and will often do so in moments of intense emotion, such as fear or anger. she's easily overwhelmed in her bat form, as she's especially sensitive to loud noises and bright lights (in fact, she's so intolerant of light that her vision is heavily impaired when she shifts forms outdoors during the day). being overwhelmed by her senses and her propensity to shift while emotional means that she often lashes out destructively. if she tries to force herself into shifting, the process takes much longer (up to several minutes) and can even cause her pain.

  《 relationships 》 all of her immediate family still reside in antalya, and she hasn't been in contact with them since developing her abilities. she has an ex-fiancé, raphael adler, a handsome man (albeit considerably older than her) who is the ceo of a major tech company.
  
  《 background 》
  the youngest child of two wealthy hotel owners in antalya, turkey, emiri's family name was well-known and respected. she spent many of her teenage years relaxing on scenic beaches, throwing yacht parties, and attending private dinners with some of antalya's most illustrious figures. riding the coattails of her family's success was not enough for her, however. she had a drive in her to go out and make her own name for herself, and she soon went into modelling. she started out doing smaller jobs in turkey before she was picked up by a modelling agency in the united states at the age of nineteen, and she moved to heartbeat city to further her career.
  
  after only a few years emiri had gathered herself a decent following, and was steadily booking more prestigious jobs despite being somewhat of a controversial figure; she was known for being quite the diva, and, at the age of twenty-five, was accused by gossip magazines of being a gold-digger after announcing her engagement to a rich businessman who was twenty years her senior. in all honesty, emiri didn't mind the extra publicity. in her mind, she had fame, beauty, and a seemingly endless supply of money, and she might have gone on to become a household name had it not been for her developing powers.
  
  only a few weeks after news of her engagement broke to the public, emiri was modelling at a fashion show when she suddenly morphed into a monstrous, bat-like creature in the middle of the catwalk. chaos ensued, with most people screaming and scrambling for the exits, while others were trying to push to the front in an attempt to get a snap of the model-turned-monster. overwhelmed by the sounds of screaming and cameras flashing in her face, emiri lashed out, severely injuring several people around her before taking flight and fleeing the scene.
  
  her career, as one can imagine, instantly went out the window, as well as her wedding plans. stigmas against powered individuals were already bad, but as a result of her volatile behaviour, she also had the police after her. she was forced to flee from the gated, beach community of diamond bay and hide among criminals in the south side. when the police initially couldn't find her, there was fear among those who'd seen her destructive behaviour at the fashion show, with tabloids labelling her 'the she-bat' and even likening her to a vampire, spreading rumours that she drank the blood of those she killed.
  
  but it's been three years since that moment, and, with other debacles involving powered individuals taking center stage, emiri has been completely forgotten about by the public. she's been able to come out of hiding, and is now working as an entertainer at vice. though not the worst career, it's a major step down from where emiri once was, and with every day she spends in the shadows her thirst for power grows stronger.
