Unpopular opinion but I feel like it’s really hard to figure out what the Staff considers “intolerance” or “harassment” or whatever they called it in the Rules.
Because I see people trampling all over marginalized communities. So it’s like okay if THIS isn’t hateful speach than what is exactly...
I actually mostly base my characters off people I know. The only things I might share with my characters are usually hobbies or a love of animals.
But I will basically write like my sister into a fictional world. Or my mom or my corworkers.
I actually never saw a problem with basing characters...
If you mean the categories for this site
Fandom just means a roleplay based on a published work. It has nothing to do with trademark or anything.
So Thor would be considered fandom if you are playing for instance the Avengers character. But not if you are just doing Norse Mythology. Because...
You can, it usually involves just making the characters people rather than archetypes.
Ex. IRL I basically check all the boxes of the “shy nerdy girl” archetype.
But as I am also a real human I know how to add details to the archetype to make it more realistic (cuz again I am basically just...
unfortunately most people who do same sex romance do the exact same gender dynamics. It’s just one character is gender bent.
I can’t count how many times someone asks for a same sex pairing and the dynamic is basically just heterosexual with one character gender bent to make it “new”.
Like no...
In my experience the boring part of romance isn’t gender but rather tropes. I feel like a lot of people want to recreate romantic tropes while forgetting to make sure the characters people.
It feels like I am playing against a checklist for an archetype rather than a well rounded character.
I worry more about whether or not proper credit is given to creators than style. I think it’s slightly easier to credit dollmaker (anime style) but you can certainly credit realistic face claims (public domain images) is you need to.
@Idea from a practical perspective though it also doesnt matter what the author intends. Because unless they are handholding their audience through a consumption of their materials (i.e. this is how you should interpret this, this is what I want you to feel about that) than it is ultimately no...
@Kahir I have a quote that I think might help you with understanding canons. It has to do with books/fandom but it works for canon based roleplays as well.
"A book exists for the readers not the Author."
Basically any fandom exists because the audience has a personal connection to the source...
So as someone who will do canons if the story allows I tend to find it fun to imagine different story arcs for them.
Basically a game of what if - what if they had different families, different friends, different spouses, different schools/jobs, etc.
I also love crossover roleplays which is...
Yeah I literally ignore (as in use the button) quite a few people on this site for specifically that reason. Also the people that just post memes without contributing to conversations. I find it makes the discussion run more smoothly all around.
Honestly roleplays just don’t last long as a general rule. It’s very rare for them to last more than a few weeks or even a month. There is a reason most long term role players can count the long running roleplays they have been in on one hand with plenty of fingers left over.
Groups increase...
I usually just say something to the effect of
“oh I am so sorry I am a little confused about what’s happening in the post. Could you maybe clarify (a specific thing your concerned about).”
Or just correct minor mistakes myself without mention it.
lol all my websites saved things until the end of time.
For this site (cuz it has glitched over the years where you couldn’t get access to anything OR they would change BBC code) so I usually put my things on google drive or Dropbox when it can be saved for those rare down days. Plus it makes...
@Kahir I actually meant you should read it out loud. Not only does it help you get a feel for how long it will take to explain things but reading things out loud also helps you get a feel for how your search will sound to your audience.
And to be fair you can be specific without being wordy...
@Kahir I would say less is more when it comes to pitches. People generally will ask if they have a question about something.
If you provide too much information then you run the risk of them forgetting, skimming, or just misunderstanding what your trying to say.
A good way to try and minimize...
If your used to self inserts a natural progression beyond that is to make characters based on the people in your life. I do it all the time, base my characters of my family, friends, etc.
It’s easy because you are basically starting out with a real person with flaws and strengths and all you...
Oddly mine weren’t smut related just weird entitlement.
Scenario 1: guy let’s me do all the world building for a magical girl roleplay. I come up with the bad guys, setting, mascots, and write the opening scene (our characters meeting magical mascot and getting transportation devices). His...
I don’t care about age (I think there was many two or three years in my early twenties when I asked for fellow college kids but it was a short window).
Honestly most of the sites I have been on it wasn’t super big deal. People didn’t really ask for age so there was never really an issue. If...
