No, it's just where the baby chick would have been.

In fertilized eggs, the yolk is where the baby chick develops, but it's not the chick itself. It's where the nutrients are, to feed the chick while it grows (mammals do that with a placenta, but birds can't).

But most grocery-store eggs are unfertilized (hens can lay eggs even when there's no roosters around), so no chick would ever have come from that egg. So we don't have to worry about that when we're eating them. ^33^
