Internet has not been stable for the last couple of days for me. I will probably get started on it his weekend hopefully!

I have to admit, I haven't been reading as much as I should. I don't know if the others are keeping up either. I can step things up at your request.

*Whistles* How goes the reading? Just checking so I can find your reading pace. I asked Rusty the same question.

Ah! Sorry for the late reply!
It's a work in progress atm, been juggling work and such! How are ya?

I could say the same thing! There's a lot of reading I have to put in. It doesn't have to be dull or be limited to just these three books. I find that switching it up with other books on the medieval ages helps. That way I'm not stuck with an endless list of names, dates and events and I get to understand what the society of the time was like. I suggest you do the same so you don't have to feel so confined as I did before. Oftentimes, I'd look at these three books and the length of it all and just say, "Nope!" and give up.

The purpose of these three books on the 500s time period is to select a specific time and place in history for our story's setting. It is not intended in any way to explain the things unique to that time and place. I should have at the beginning encouraged you all to go out and explore the beauty of the Middle Ages, but it is only now that I realized this.

And I'm fine.

Also, hah, I should also apologize for the late reply.

Had to go off to do something but I'm back.

I have three scenarios in mind for the story, the problem is that I'm not entirely sure of life in the 500's period. I use the works of Paul Lacroix as reference (it can be found in the Internet Archive), he's an old historian and in one review of his books I heard he's also a devout Catholic. Hopefully, if I manage to comb through the enormous amount of information here and then some more, I can get the whole operation running at full speed. I will list down the three scenarios I had in mind:

We will have. . .

1. (Nation-Building) A game of strategy. Each player will control a set of armies and provinces, they will also have a different set of objectives to accomplish. This game will feature the use of the military, the proper use of resources and a choice of policies to take. Think of the game Grand Tactician: The Civil War and that's what I'll want this game to take inspiration from. We'll have to study the equipment, the organization as well as some of the tactics used by each army.

2. (Realistic) A feudal story. We'll control a family of nobility and try to survive the war. Alternatively, we could play as a bunch of serfs or free men in a town or village, albeit one having the misfortune to live in the middle of the Gothic War. We'll have to study the lives of the peoples living in this era as we'll try to make a living here (and in such a hard time period no less).

3. (Realistic) A military adventure. We could control a team of officers or soldiers in a military unit and take the fight to the enemy! We'd need some knowledge of martial arts, of equipment of the period, and then we can go all in from there.

By the way, just so you know, I talked these over with a fellow named startergomer, one who couldn't join us. He said something about having joined too many RPs, I can't remember the exact words.

In August 22, 2020 you mentioned other possible scenarios, I will also take them into account:

"Well, to start... what aspects of the era fascinates you? The colorful festivities? The chivalric tendencies like Ivanhoe? The complex politicking like that of the Medici's? Or the part where you get dragged away by some men in robes with rosary beads in their hands?"

In reply, I had this in response:

"I love the study of warfare, which deals with why men fight and how they fight. I like politics, which shows how people deal with each other and react to a problem. I also want to study how people lived during those times, how they lived, how they ate and slept down to how they died. The festivities, the chivalry and all the intrigue's just part of that, and actually, it is embarrassing to admit that despite being a Catholic I don't know much of my practices."

I'll leave this here, it can get us thinking of a proper story.

The second idea would prolly be the ideal one, if ya wanna have different types of players and intrigues. Military is good too, and one of my favorite, but as far as Military RP goes imo, they tend to die due to repetitions and particularly grounded in reality, so there won't be much room to be creative.

As far as timeline is concerned, I am fine with any era. Long as everyone else is fine with it!

I myself am in some sporadic RPs, but long-term wise, if this project gets started, I will dedicate as best I can.
