Dark! Welcome back.

Hey Daisie, long time no see. How're things?
Daisie

Things are alright! Kinda nuts. Recovering from some losses irl but I'm bouncing back pretty well considering. Keeping myself busy with TV and art, mostly.
What about you? Needed a hiatus, or did things just slip away?

Site's mostly been inactive for me so I gave up on it, honestly. Got a Discord notification from the site and decided to pop in, see what's going on. My roleplay ideas just don't work out because they suck.

Ahh, don't sell yourself short. Some ideas work, some just don't, nothing wrong with having a thing here or there that flops on its face. Heaven knows I've had some of those XD Live and learn.

I've only ever had those, and the only one that actually took off I ended up ghosting and killing myself.

Takes a lot of time and patience to get a really good one going. With an amount of luck, too, since most people pick their partners from practically random.
I've ghosted before too, can confirm it doesn't feel good for either party involved. Haven't done so in ages (I've decided that I'm done joining new RPs), but still.
All I can advise is to choose your partners wisely, be picky, and actively seek out and listen closely to criticism. One can't improve if they don't know where they should start.

Definitely. But also I've gotten used to the unpredictability of D&D, where you only control your character and there's a DM laying down everything for you, but here you kinda control NPCs and stuff as well and there's no DM, at least not in the same way, and you only fail or succeed based on your own writing and not due to some unpredictability factor.

It takes a certain hand sometimes. I've not gotten into D&D but I don't think it'd be the game for me, I really like having a lot of control over the stories as opposed to leaving them up to lady luck. Though again, there is some unpredictability when it comes to the type of RP on here... Not everything is down to how good the writing is. A lot of times RPs just die off because of unfortunate circumstances that don't have to pertain to the RP at all. It can feel unfair sometimes but the payoff is worth it imo when you do pull it off.

Absolutely agree with you. But even if luck isn't one of the things that pulls me towards D&D, it's the whole Dungeon Master mechanic, controlling the enemies, allies, etc..

Sounds like it's a brilliant fit for you! I just don't think I could ever get used to the sort of formalness of it, ya know? It uses the format of a board game to convey roleplay, whereas with freeform, the format is just writing... Therefore it has a lot less rules lol, which tickles my fancy. It's a different format that appeals to different people. I'm glad you've found what suits you best, my man.

They're actually surprisingly similar. I'd recommend watching Critical Role's second campaign. They're great and they perfectly convey what D&D can be. But yeah, I get that. But I sorta need guidelines to work with, you get me? A sort of system that makes life just a tad bit easier.

Ahhh I've heard many things about Critical Role's campaigns lol. I keep telling myself I'll check them out someday. Never been brave enough to venture into the world of D&D other than the occasional poke here and google there. I get what you mean though, and that's really great. It's always good to know which shoes fit you best. Some folks like that structure, others find it restricting.
Honestly I'm pretty content at the moment, and it's kinda nice. I've got two 1x1s, partners are super chill and long-term. They're not group RPs so there isn't a huge amount of pressure to keep up with everyone else, which I've discovered I like. My amazing partners have mega patience and are fine with even month-long hiatuses if necessary. The flexibility is really a must with me.
