Tip: when you have an idea, or see a movie/tv show etc.. you want to RP, wait three weeks before making it into an RP. As a rule of thumb, by that point your hype should have calmed down somewhat, so if at that point you are still interested it might be sustainable.

That said, it is also important to realize forum roleplaying is a written medium: effort and low moments are sort of inevitable. If one wants to get to the real hype and the really great moments, one needs to be able to get through those slower ones.

I sometimes find myself just not as into my roleplaying as I want to be. Sometimes taking a break helps, because it gives me a chance to focus on other things and then the RP is sort of new again when I come back. Sometimes pushing through it, i.e. posting anyway, helps, because I have to connect deeper with the character on a more conscious level than normal, and that invests me back into the RP.

It's hard to tell beforehand which one is going to work, so usually I try pushing first, and taking a break if that doesn't work.
