I'd argue that charity makes you less materialistic, teaching you to find joy in something beyond yourself. Greed has the potential to become quite destructive for both you and society. Greediness may also make you unhappy because regardless of how much of something you horde, somebody else will always have more of what you want which will, ultimately, make you unsatisfied and constantly seek out more.
