Of a different colonial era where you take a colonial city and try to grow into a full colonial nation to compete with your rivals to gain the love of your motherland (I'll try to ask we all take one motherland) and finally independence what do you think?

I'd suggest making things a bit more complicated, Players who control the Motherland/Fatherland should be seperate from those who control the colonies to have a dynamic relation to simulate the politics better but it's rather an idealistic approach.
