Start with a party...
The world is much the same as it was many years ago. Pokemon trainers still vie to become masters of their art, rangers still protect helpless pokemon and researchers are still doing all they can to learn as much about pokemon as possible. Today is not just any day, across the Kanto region parties are taking place in every city, town and village to mark the summer solstice. A day of parties and celebrations, fairs and festivals, everyone is out and about celebrating in their own way.

As for you, you are on your way to professor Oak's lab to collect your first pokemon before heading off your adventure.

The summer sun cooked Leo's fair skin as he stood outside Professor Oak's lab, he gazed up and marvelled at its sheer scale. From pictures he had seen of its previous incarnations, it was a far cry from the converted house that it once was. The building was the biggest in Pallet Town by a long way but the grounds dwarfed all but the biggest cities of Kanto. As much a nature preserve as a research laboratory, The Oak Institute was a key component in ensuring that pokemon had a safe place to go to avoid the threats of poachers and Team Rocket.

Scratching at the stubble on his chin Leo stepped into the buildings reception, the glass doors sliding open with a smooth motion. As he crossed the threshold into the bulding the satisfying sensation of air conditioning hugged his body. He let out a satisfied sigh as his body temperature reached something far more comfortable for him. He operated hot and was always that one person who would be in shorts in mid December while ankle deep in snow. That said, it was just because he genuinely felt the heat alot more than most people.

As his eyes scoured the walls and the portraits of Pallet Town's most famous individuals, including the original Professor Oak and his grandson Gary, a voice called out to Leo.

"Hello sir. Can I help you?" The voice was soft and inviting and when Leo saw who it came from he quickly straightened his shirt. The voice had come from the labs receptionist, a beautifully dark skinned lady whose slender figure sat behind a desk.

Leo approached, a smile beginning to spread across his face. "Hey there. I ummm..." The young man lost his words as his eyes found hers, the receptionist laughing at him.

"I umm what?" She said mockingly with a teasing wink.

Leo hid his embarassment behind his smile, shaking his head slightly to clear his head. "My names Leo. I've been told to come and pick up my first pokemon from here." Leo turned from the receptionist as movement at the far end of the long corridor caught his attention. A man in a lab coat accompanied by a Reuniclus made their way from one room to the next, the mans singing clearly annoying the psychic pokemon.

While distracted the receptionist had tapped away at her computer to search for Leo's name. "Leo Sullivan?" The young man nodded in response. "Ok cool. I just need you to take a seat over there please, we are waiting on three other people to arrive." The receptionist gestured with her hand towards a set of comfortable looking chairs around a small coffee table.

Leo smiled in gratitude at the receptionist and for a moment thought of sticking around to talk to her. Instead he simply said, "Ok great, thanks." He turned towards the chairs and slowly made his way over, taking out his head phones in the process. I may as well listen to some music while I wait, he thought. As soon as he sat down he pressed play and began to tap away with his fingers and feet in time to the drums of the song.

Danielle.jpg

Warmth settled over Danielle as she opened her eyes. She was cuddled under her blanket, but the warmth from the afternoon sun streaming through her window caused her to throw it off. The dark haired girl groaned as she stared at the ceiling of her new room, and suddenly everything came back to her in a flash. Her mother had insisted she leave with her father to Kanto to start her life over. She could tell how upset her daughter was getting over their divorce, perhaps more so than the rest of her children, so her natural instinct was to send Danielle off to a whole new region to "start a new life", although Danielle suspects that her mother hoped the sudden change would side track her. The most notable change at the moment was how quiet everything was. Back in Unova, the whole of Castelia City would be bustling, but here in Kanto it was almost unsettling how everything was so silent.

The only thing at the moment that excited the girl was the prospect of getting her first pokemon. It was her first time in the Kanto region, and she knew a lot about the pokemon that originated from here. She had read up on them as well as seen them first hand thanks to her father's previous job at the pokemon center, and she already had a good idea on who she wanted as a starter. This thought finally got her out of bed. Looking through her closet, she decided she wanted to look fairly formal for her first day out. She picked out her favorite long sleeved grey shirt that form-fit her very well. She loved how she filled it, and it was probably one of the only shirts she felt very confident in. She picked out a small red skirt and some black flats to match. Danielle slipped her glasses on, smiling as everything became much clearer.

She put her signature black hat on and put her fine, thin black hair into a ponytail and finally headed out. Her father was out at his new job, and she was thankful she didnt have to talk to him at the moment. The air seemed much fresher here than in the big city, and it somehow raised Danielle's spirits. The farther away she got from the house and the closer she got to the lab, the more she could feel the excitement. With a newfound pep in her step, she made her way to the Oak lab. Despite it being her first time in the region, her father had helped her find the lab the previous day. Conveniently they were only a few blocks away from the building, so she didnt have to walk far. Upon seeing the lab up close again sent a shiver down her. She was used to big buildings and strange architecture, but this particular building seemed to amaze her just as it did the first time she lay eyes on it.

Walking in, she immediately felt the coolness of the air condition wash over her. A warm smile welcomed her from the pretty receptionist in the middle of the large room. Danielle walked up to her.

"Hello. I'm Danielle, I'm here to get my first pokemon?" She assumed the girl knew what she was talking about.

"Yes ma'am, just in time! We are waiting on a few others, but you can sit by the gentleman over there," she gestured to a guy with earbuds sitting nearby, "and the professor will get you all when we are ready."

Danielle nodded and offered a smile, then turned to take a seat. She sat opposite of the man, glancing at him curiously. He was distracted, so Danielle felt safe enough to stare. He was good looking, and seemed nice enough just by his facial features. Perhaps this place wouldnt be as scary as she had perceived...

Zack Callihan

The flames burned high as they burst out of the ground while Zack stood there confidently with his mighty Charizard at his side, doing a confident pose as he pointed at the young man that had just walked through the door with his trusty pokemon roaring loudly and letting loose a large flame in the air. The surrounding atmosphere was very tense as well as being hot and dry. A side effect of his gym, which was flavorful and full of the fun flare that they were supposed to be.
"You come to challenge the flaming inferno of Zack Callihan and earn the scorching flame badge?"
It was nothing if not a very flamboyant gesture. But if a gym leader wasn't going to go all in, what was the point?
The challenger opened their mouth to respond with what was sure to be a witty retort, but instead only the sound of the beeping of an alarm clock could be heard.

Zack jumped up in his bed, hair a mess and in his pajamas. Today was the day. The day that he was going to get his pokemon and begin his trip to become a gym leader and true competitor that his parents had been in the past. He was to begin his journey to become the type of gym leader that would be able to give even the legendary Ash Ketchum a run for his money. Something that was challenging, but of course, not impossible. If you never lost, well, eventually the trainers would stop coming. Gotta just make it reasonably tough, of course. They have to earn that badge or else it would be pointless and worthless.

"Zack. Breakfast is ready. Come on down. You wouldn't want to be late for the first day." His dad called up. He was back from his latest lecture. He was always in this town or that town giving speeches at various universities. Zack didn't really get it cause as far as he knew, both of his parents weren't even big shot gym leaders before they moved to Pallet town. But apparently his dad must have done something right.

Zack quickly got dressed in his black outfit with yellow highlights and grabbed his headphones that he pay around his shoulders for later pulling up over his ears. Scrambles eggs and toast awaited him as he sat down at the table. His father put a hand on his shoulder as his Magmortar was heating up some more toast. "Are you ready for today, kiddo?"

Zack stuffed his face with some eggs as he began his reply. "Mooh Myah. Mever rweady mas."

His father patted his back and went to sit down so that he could also start to eat. "Right. Well I just wanted to give you a nutrious meal before you went to the Oak Lab. I'm sure that you'll bump into your mom while you're over there, but I wanted to wish you luck beforehand."

"Thanks dad." His mouth no longer full of food. He thought it was all delicious and probably nutritious as well. He couldn't ask for a better way to start the day honestly. "I don't want to be late though." He gave him a kiss on the cheek as he took another piece of toast for the road off of the plate that Magmortar was bringing on over to the table. His dad gave him a good luck wave as he began to actually dig into his own food.

It wasn't long before he arrived at the Oak institute. He had been here many times over the years. After all, his mom worked there part time as a pokemon researcher so he was familiar with the place. He recognized the receptionist from seeing her before, but for the life of him, he couldn't remember her name. Hopefully that wouldn't come up, he thought as he walked up to the desk.
"Zack Callihan?" He nodded as his response to the question. "You can wait over there with the others. There is still one more person that we are waiting on."
"Alrighty then."

Zack walked on over to the pair that were sitting there and spoke up with a smile. "Hello. My name is Zack. I hear that you two are waiting for a pokemon too."

Danielle glanced up at the new voice suddenly. A tall boy with blond hair joined them. He seemed so excited she could almost feel his energy. She nodded at him politely and smiled.

“Hello there. I’m Danielle, It’s nice to meet you. This may be a tough question, but do you know what pokemon you’re going to choose yet?” She had been so excited to find out other’s choices the question just kind of popped out.

She continued, “I believe I already have mine chosen. Not only are poison types one of my favorites, but since I’ve just moved here I thought it fitting to choose a pokemon that originated from here, so I think I’m going to go with Nidoran!” She smiled happily. She hoped her constant talking wouldnt be too annoying, but she was so excited at the prospect of getting her first pokemon and making new friends she couldnt help it.

( I hope this isnt too short, I wanted to get something out before I forgot)

Marisu

Marisu dragged her suitcase across the building's smooth floor. Her silver-colored luggage made a constant trudging sound as she made her way to the waiting room. She could hear several people making small conversation there.

"-You can wait over there with the others-" "-Alrighty then-"

Marisu sped up her walking speed. She didn't want to make other people wait for too long, hence why she spent the night before here in the lab.

"-It’s nice to meet you-" "-I believe I already have mine chosen-" "-I think I’m going to go with Nidoran!"

"Nidoran is a fine choice!" Marisu exclaimed as she entered the waiting room, not from the front door but from one of the corridor behind the receptionist counter, which of course startled the receptionist. "Even though they lack overflowing fur or hair, their flappable ears indeed have its own charm!"

Marisu was still wearing her lab uniform, a sleek blue shirt and black skirt covered with a long lab coat. A nametag was pinned on her chest, Marisu Sakurai was written on it. Her long black hair was let loose and reached down to the middle of her back. Even though she looks neat enough, ones could saw that her hair was still a bit moist, as if she just finished washing her hair not too long ago.

"Marisu, you're already here??" The startled receptionist finally gathered her wits and asked the question.

"I'm here since last night. Spent my time in the library and slept in the napping room. Today is the summer soltice, right? I don't want to get caught in the crowd while coming here."

"One step ahead like usual? You should tell me beforehand though." The receptionist was now flipping the visitor log to check the list from the previous day. There she found Marisu's name checking in in the afternoon. Marisu was currently listed as an internship here in the Oak's lab so she often went in and out of the building.

"Sorry, sorry. Got caught up with this novel I read so I forgot to tell you."

"Well, then. Please wait a bit with the others. I will contact the professor." While the receptionist was busy with the telephone, Marisu made her way and sat around the coffee table together with three other people. She put her suitcase next to herself in standing position. Without any warning, she dropped a bomb of ramblings to the three strangers in front of her.

"Good morning, I'm also excited to get my first pokemon! You know I actually wanted to get my pokemon since like two years ago but I didn't think I have enough time to properly take care of it because of my study and such. Sometimes I think being an intern in such a big institute is an exhausting task you know? People expect you to keep up with all the recent materials related to your study but you actually just want to eat potato chips in the morning while watching the recap of Vermilli's beautiful performances. Now that I already get most of my credits done and filled my CV I finally have enough time to properly tend to my pokemon and yay the professor approved my request but I see problems for me looming in the horizon since now I must finish my thesis while doing my duty as a environmental documenter so I was thinking I should make my thesis related to what I'm doing as a documenter and take advantage of it so here I am." Marisu took a deep breath after spewing all those words with minimal pause.

"Oh, my name's Marisu. Like you can see in my name tag."

Leo tapped away to the beat of the song, getting faster and faster as the song picked up pace. Soon enough he was lost in the song and totally oblivious to the arrival of three others. The music flowed through him to the point his headbanging forced him to his feet. He began to move wildly until he realised where he was. He opened his eyes slowly to see three people before him. A normal person would find themselves a deep shade of red, brought on by sheer embarassment but fortunately for Leo this wasn't a situation that was alien to him. He popped out his headphones and raised a hand as a greeting.

"Hey there, the names Leo." He looked at the three to see if he could discern anything from their appearances. The first person he spotted was a young woman, her long tied back black hair hidden beneath a black hat. She seemed quite excited by the whole situation, hopefully not at the expense of Leo and his "dancing". Next he caught site of a young man, someone he recognised from school. Even though Pallet Town had grown extensively since the days of Ash, there was still only one school and for Leo he could remember the guys name as being Zack. Finally there was another young lady, her attire giving away that she worked at the lab. Her name was emblazoned across a name tag and was something rather unique, Marisu...it'd be easy to remember he thought.

Leo motioned to continue talking but not before a buzzer went off. The voice of a female followed, calling out to Marisu specifically. "Marisu this is Arianna, can you please bring the others with you to Lab C, it's time for you to receive your pokemon." In an instinctive reaction Leo slapped his hands together and began to rub them against one another in excitement.

"I'm hoping you're all as excited as I am to get these pokemon!" Leo smiled wide and looked around the group, ready to go see the professor.

Danielle.jpg
At the sound of yet another voice, Danielle half turned to spot another young lady walking up to the small group. She noticed that the woman had on clothes that usually only lab assistance wore. Danielle smiled to herself, thinking briefly of her mother.

"Thank you! I thought so too." She replied, happy that someone agreed with her choice of pokemon. The dark haired girl was so pleased that she almost missed the girl's monologue about her internship. Tuning into what was being said, she nodded enthusiastically about the part of her taking advantage of her stuff. Danielle was a big advocator of "seizing the day" as some say.

"Hello Marisu. I'm Danielle, it's nice to meet you. Do you work here?" She assumed so as her clothes were very convenient for this setting. Before she could get a response however, the man that was originally here finally spoke up, making Danielle jump a bit. He introduced himself as Leo, and Danielle smiled warmly at him in greeting.

"Nice of you to join us! That must be some great music you're listening to, what with your dancing!" She giggled. Suddenly a buzzer went off somewhere above their heads, and a women's voice called for Marisu to bring them to Lab C. A huge smile spread over Danielle's pale face and she stood up excitedly.

"Yea, let's do this! I can't wait to meet my partner!"

Marisu

Marisu stood at the voice of Professor Arianna. Lab C, that wasn't that far. She told the group to follow her as she made her way deep into the building's maze-like corridor. While they walk, Marisu didn't miss the chance to become their temporary tour guide and introduce some of the rooms they would pass.

"Don't wander too far, it can be easy to get lost here. This room is Lab A, or the egg room. Most of the thing you will find inside are all related to pokemon eggs in some way. They are currently developing a brand new incubator that can help us control some future details of the hatchling. Like their nature or even artificially injected egg moves. It's actually a rather controversial project since the purist side thought we should not mingle with pokemon genes more than we already have but I personally think it's a good project since we can also use the technology to prevent defect."

"This one is Lab B. It's rarely used but they are currently looking for the possibility of a microscopic-sized pokemon. No luck for them so far but the thought of a new unexplored world of pokemon is quite interesting so I can understand why they spent their time and budget for this one. I wonder how things will change if they really find micro pokemon..."

"and... this is lab C, or the daycare room." Unlike the previous two rooms, Marisu didn't provide further explanation for this. She just held the door wide open with her suitcase as she urged the group to enter before her.

Zack Callihan

"Nice to meet you too Danielle." Now that he got a better look at her, she was quite the looker. And poison types, well, he'd have to look out for her. He was about to respond when a researcher walked up to them and introduced herself.

Like most people from the Oak Institute, she looked familiar, but as always, he was terrible with names. Misu or something like that? Gah. Why was he like this. At least before he managed to open his mouth and embarrass himself, she introduced herself as Marisu and pointed out that it was on her name tag. Well of course it would be that simple, wouldn't it. He would of had to laugh at himself with that situation that was narrowly avoided.

At least with the guy who took off his headphones, he recognized him and his name. Pallet town only had the one school after all. His name was Leo. At least there was another resident of Pallet town here to come get a pokemon. That was nice to learn right out of the gate at least.

The buzzer went off. It was time for them to get pokemon. The excitement was welling up inside of him. He has been waiting for this for so long and now the opportunity was finally here and now!!

Zack gave a wide smile. "Absolutely. I'm very eager to get my pokemon. I want a charmander. They kick so much butt."

He followed on the tour. He already knew these places since his mom worked in the facility, but it was still nice to get a tour from someone else who wasn't his mother. He continued on with the group, thinking mostly about what he was going to do once he got his charmander. He would work hard on getting this pokemon to be his friend and together they will form the foundation for a great team for being a GYM leader group. He was pumped.

Danielle.jpg

Danielle listened politely as Marisu explained everything about the lab. She gazed into the rooms with wide, curious eyes.

"You sure do know your stuff!" She commented as they passed each room. This was nothing like the lab back in Castelia City, although she should have expected that. Her attention was so misplaced she almost forgot the real reason she was here until Marisu stopped suddenly, causing Danielle to almost run into her. She glanced into the room that was lab C and almost squealed with joy. Pokemon of all different shapes, sizes and types were running around happily without a care in the world. The young lady walked in, temporarily forgetting about the others. An Emolga sat on a ledge next to her and waved its tail in greeting.

Danielle smiled and waved back. She absolutely adored electric pokemon! The only reason she wasnt picking one was because she had been around more electric types than poison. Her mother had a Raichu and her father had an Eevee that he planned to evolve into a Jolteon, so she knew quite a bit about them. She had never experienced the training of a poison type however, and was extremely curious about how one would go about it, so she put herself up to the challenge. Her gaze followed a Pidove as it swooped around the room, and for a few seconds an Electrike came up to sniff her. She giggled as pokemon played around her and patiently waited for the others to come in.

_____________________________________

The walk to Lab C evolved into a tour as Marisu began to point out what each room they passed was responsible for. For Leo he did his best to listen but the childhood excitement within was at bursting point, his barriers of adulthood ready to crumble away. The simple fact was that even at the age of twenty one he was still as easily excitable as he was as a ten year old. As a small, illuminated sign for the lab came into view Leo's excitement began to turn to nerves. He had wanted a pokemon for so long and now, after finally getting his license, it was his time.

"Thanks Marisu," Leo spoke with a smile as he moved past the young woman and her suitcase, turning his body sideways to avoid bumping her with his shoulders.

Entering Lab C he couldn't hide his joy as his smile grew wider and wider to the point it began to hurt his cheeks. The room was full of pokemon running around and playing with each other. He spotted the other girl of the group already making friends. It would be difficult to not want every single one of the pokemon, they were all so caring and loving and hurried over to greet the arriving group. Leo found himself with a Fletchling on his shoulder, using it's wing to rub his cheek. A Treecko and an Axew playfully chased one another around his feet while a Gastly appeared in front of him, doing its best to give him a fright. Leo let out a hearty laugh, "Good try Gastly...better luck next time." The pokemon smiled before fading away into the background.

TIme passed to allow the group to each enter the room and it wasn't long after that the Professor turned up. Her young appearance contrasted heavily against the reality of her age, appearing to be much younger than she was. On her arrival all the pokemon in the room hurried over to her, leaving the group to watch on as they took part in an impromptu group hug. Their reaction was testament to the great work that Arianna and her team were doing within the Institute. The professor did her best to greet each pokemon began gently moving them on, allowing them to return to their playtime. She gracefully walked over to the group and greeting them with a wide grin.

"Hey there! I'm glad you all could make it. My name is Professor Arianna Oak but you can feel free to just use my first name. If you could just follow me I need to talk to you all before we begin." Arianna gestured to a nearby lab table, four stools for the young group to take a seat on all on one side. Leo was the first to take a seat on the furthest stool, trying to keep himself from bounding off the walls. Once the rest of the group took their seats the professor stood before them on the other side of the table and continued.

"So...welcome all of you on what is going to be the start to what is hopefully the greatest journey of your lives. Pokemon can be whatever you need them to be, your greatest friend or your biggest enemy. It is all about how you treat them. Those that treat them with love and care will find a much more fulfilling relationship than those that treat them as nothing more than tools. Suffice to say we monitor how pokemon are treated through the extensive pokemon centre network and we do have the capability to bring legal proceedings against those believed to be mistreating their companions." For a moment Arianna's relaxed and charming demeanour had made way for a stern, serious tone before her smile return. "That being said I don't think I need to worry about any of you, you all seem like nice people."

Arianna took a knee and reached under the table before returning with four small devices in her hand. She passed one to each person allowing them to poke and prod at theirs if they so wished.

"What you have in your hand is the latest iteration of the Institute Pokedex. In addition to having extensive access to our databases on pokemon, it has the capability of any modern day smart phone whether it be the ability to make phone calls, play music or use its inbuilt GPS to navigate. These are yours to keep and are free however repairs and replacements will be costly so please take care of them. Your information will be saved to the cloud so if the worst were to happen you wouldn't lose any of your progress. I know that is extemely important to you Marisu." Arianna addressed the young lady directly, presumably she wasn't on the path to be a trainer but more of a field researcher.

"And so...that's all I have to say. Some of you have requested pokemon while I know at least one of you wanted to first come here and then decide. Those of you who had a specific request, you will find your pokeballs over by the window. Please go collect the pokeball with your name and meet your newest friend." Using her arms to gesture towards the pokeballs Arianna glowed with excitement for the part of her job that she loved the most, the initial bonding of the pokemon with their human. "If you have any questions, feel free."

Leo turned on his stool, not having a question in his mind. His focus was finding what he hoped would be a new, life long friend. He scanned the room, taking in the vast array of pokemon that were available. He spotted the Fletchling from earlier and felt himself get off from his stool, 'Maybe that's the one,' he thought to himself. As he approached a bright light struck his eyes, causing him to raise his hands. Through a small gap between his fingers he tried to find the cause of the bright light. After a few moments he spotted a honedge alone in the corner away from all the other pokemon. It looked out of the window as if longing to be outside in the open world. The sun had reflected off it's shiny blade as it came through the window and reflected it into Leo's face. The young man turned away from the Fletching and approached the floating blade pokemon.

"Hello there," he said softly. The pokemon turned to see Leo before returning it's glance to the world outside. "My name is Leo. What are you doing over here on your own?" The ghost and steel dual-type didn't flinch at the question, it's glare to the outside undisturbed. "I am here to look for a pokemon to come with me as I explore the world." The Honedge twitched a little at the suggestion, clearly reacting to the words of the man. "You remind me of myself after my brother had an accident." The softness in Leo's voice made way for the pain and sadness within him. "All I could do for days was look outside or stare the corner of my room. I was and still am devastated by it but I know sitting around in my room won't help. I have to get out into the world and do whatever I can to help him on his recovery." Leo paused for a moment to clear his throat, the reality of his brothers situation coming close to pouring forth. "Would you like to come with me? I can't promise that i'll be perfect but I will do the best I can to make your life as pleasant as I can."

The Honedge rotated slowly to look Leo in the eye, judging the sincerity of his words. The pokemon floated around him for a moment, looking him over before stopping in front of his face. The pokemon floated forward slowly before coming to rest on Leo's chest, it's long blue cloth clutching tightly over his shoulder. It let out a softened call, accepting Leo to be their trainer. The young man placed a hand over Honedge's back before speaking. "Thank you for choosing me Honedge. I look forward to our journey together."

Marisu

"Thank you professor!!" Marisu took the pokedex and fiddled it for a moment, trying to connect the cloud storage to her already existing account. "and... there! connected."

Marisu hummed to herself as she walk merrily towards the window. She requested a pokemon, yes, but not only she requested a specific species, she also requested a specific pokemon. A few weeks ago she helped some researchers hatch a mareep egg in the lab, she instantly fell in love with the baby and asked if she could have the pokemon. Of course she was surprised when they granted her request and thus, her whole preparing for the journey ordeal begin.

"Ampy, pop out!!" Marisu sent out the pokemon inside, eager to meet her new partner. A beam of light stuck nearby floor and started to form a shape. When the light subsided, a mareep stood there innocently, looking up to Marisu. The girl kneeled to level herself with the fluffy pokemon and spread her arms, inviting him into her embrace, she even wore a rubber gloves for this!

"Come to mommy here- Bwuhhhaaaa!!" Marisu's words were cut short as the wool pokemon taackled into her belly, but Marisu didn't buckle down. Instead, she put her gloved hands deep into the mareep's wool and rummaging through it as if she was searching for something.

"here??"

"here!"

"or... here!!" She was trying to spot the little mareep's tickle spot, and she hit the jackpot. Ampy rolled on the floor like a dog and sat on her laps. The pokemon in front of her was still very young and playful, hence why she was thinking the best way to befriend him was by telling him that they could play together. She pat the mareep's head while having a wide grin on her face and used her pokedex to capture a few photos of them together.

The speech Professor Arianna had given was a long but simple one. Danielle had understood what was to happen, and as she fiddled with her pokedex she couldnt help but keep glancing at the pokeballs on the windowsill.

Her new partner was in there! Wiggling her leg impatiently, the dark haired girl nearly knocked her chair over when Arianna gave them the OK.

“Alright Nidoran,” Danielle whispered to the pokeball that had her name neatly printed on a slip of paper next to it, “I am really excited to meet you. I hope our adventure is as good as Im imagining!” She took the ball and clicked the small white button on it. A red light shot from the container and suddenly her own little pokemon appeared, floppy eared and all.

Danielle squealed in delight as she laid her eyes on her new partner. The little purple pokemon gazed up at her expectantly, as if she had a job for it already. Kneeling down next to her pokemon, Danielle seemed to suddenly forget the others for a moment. She held out her hand gently as Nidoran sniffed at her.

“Hey there little guy! Im Danielle, your new trainer. You and I are going to start our very own adventure together, wouldnt you like that?” She smiled warmly. However, Nidoran seemed disinterested. He waved his ears in response and bolted off to play with a nearby Skitty.

“Oh dear..”

Zack Callihan

It was all happening so fast. So fast in fact that he couldn't believe it. Professor Arianna Oak walked in and started welcomed them all before saying that if they mistreated their pokemon that she would fight them with the full force of the law. Shesh. He was just here to get a friend for life and hopefully get strong enough in order to start his own gym and legacy that he could call his own. He would never abuse or hurt any pokemon. He just was here for a friend.

Zack took the pokedex and started fiddling through it. He'd need to customize it as soon as he had some free time. Gotta have it all be on his brand, of course. It was all part of the long game that he had planned. He was the long term kinda planner and not the short burst, no thinking kind of knee jerk reaction. That was why, it was funny that even though he had this idea of how it was all going to go down, it all still seemed like it was moving too fast. But in a good kind of way.

As soon as she finished speaking, he rushed over to his pokeball. He knew who he wanted as his first. The one that he would use to build an awesome team and have I revolve around, Charmander. He opened up the pokeball and there sat a Charmander looking up at him with the most precious of eyes.

Zack immediately knelt down and gave the little guy a hug. "I've been waiting to meet you for a long time buddy."
"Char. Charmander, char." Responded the Charmander who then proceeded to give him a large lick.
"Of yes! This is definitely going to be the start of a beautiful friendship!!" Zack gave a fist bump before he began playing with his new best friend.

The group of four had spent some time with their pokemon, getting to know one another...for the most part. It brought a smile to Arianna's face to see and it gave her hope for the future of both the pokemon and their new trainers.

"Well then everyone, now that you have your pokemon in hand I really must ask you to depart so we can get the room prepared for the next group. I would like to suggest that maybe you should all take a trip into town and take part in some of the festivities." With the Summer Solstice Festival in full swing there were plenty of things to do. "Starting out on a journey like you've started can be quite intimidating, worrying even, so to have a group of others to share it with just lightens the load. You never know...you could make lifelong friends." Arianna gestured towards a door to the side of the room, through it's glass panes the outside could be seen. A long concrete path wound its way back to the entrance of the facility. "Good luck to you all."

Leo had been deep in conversation with his new friend Honedge. While the pokemon couldn't explicitly speak it let Leo know that it was in fact a female. Unfortunately for him he had fallen in love with the name Excalibur and decided to keep it. Honedge wasn't overly fussed but within moments the nickname of Cali was born and the pair had found a nice even ground.

With the professors request out in the open Leo stood up to his feet, Cali floating up next to him as he turned to face the others. "I was planning on taking a trip to the festival anyway, sort of a goodbye to my hometown." Glancing from person to person he spoke. "I would appreciate the company if anyone would like to see what this little town has to offer?"

Marisu

"Sure. I don't really like crowded place that much but there is a deerling parade that I must absolutely see and pat." Marisu tried to lift her mareep and carries him on her arms but she got electrocuted, even with the rubber gloves. She ended up putting the pokemon back into the pokeball. She then signaled for the group to wait for a minute as she vanished into the restroom.. and came out with different set of outfits, now she wore a flower-pattern sundress and a wide straw hat on her head.

"Let's go. My sweet deerlings are waiting!"

After chasing Nidoran down, she firmly held the squirming pokemon in her arms so as not to drop him. At the sound of the professor’s voice urging them to leave before the next group came, she went to join the others. Danielle joined them just in time to hear Leo’s offer.

“I’ll tag along! I would love to see what else this region has to offer.” Finally she noticed the other’s pokemon. A Honedge, which Danielle had only encountered twice before (this being her third). The other was a Mareep, one fairly common but that made Danielle smile every time because of how cute it was! The last was Zack’s Charmander. They were all very good choices, and all of them were well behaved.

She glanced down at Nidoran with a sigh. This was going to be harder than she thought.

Zack Callihan

Zack almost didn't stop what he was doing in play when the Professor started to speak, but quickly came back to his senses. There would be plenty of time to have fun while on their adventure all around and to fulfil his dream of becoming his very on gym leader. Much fun time would be head, he just knew it. Then everything else would fall into place.

He turned to look at the Professor while his Charmander started crawling up onto his back. It was a little heavier than he would have thought, but nothing a little back strengthening couldn't fix in the future. At least until he eventually evolved into a Charmeleon. Then there was no way he'd be lifting him up anymore.

That's right, the Solstice Festival was still going on. In all the excitement of going to be getting his own pokemon, he had honestly forgotten all about it.

"Thanks Professor. I'll make sure to take good care of this Charmander. I just know that we'll be the best of friends." Zack smiled as the Charmander waved while on his back. He turned to the others as Leo and the others began to speak to each other.

"Yeah. I wouldn't mind going to the festival as a grand goodbye to Pallet Town. I've lived my whole life here, but I'm eager to go see the world."

Marisu

"Oh? From Pallet? You two Pallet boys should treat us the best foods this place can offer then." Marisu's ears almost seems to perks up when she heard an interesting things. She elbowed Leo and Zack on the arm, a playful smile dawned on her face as her more opportunistic side came outside. "I will do my share in Saffron later. Promise."

The group all seemed to immediately welcome each others company upon Arianna's instruction to begin their journeys. For Leo it was important to have someone to travel with, someone to stop him going stir crazy. He enjoyed the company of others and while he knew he would grow close to his pokemon, he still needed that regular human interaction.

The first person to respond to him was Marisu who in the space of what seemed thirty seconds went from looking like a lab technician to a country girl. The Deerling parade had clearly excited her and given the time, they woulkd be able to make it with plenty of time to do other things. Next was Danielle who it appeared was the only one not to immediately bond with their new pokemon. He felt bad for her given but she was clearly a nice person and he was sure Nidoran would come around eventually. Then there was Zack who clearly had the same intentions as Leo, to bid his birthplace farewell before setting off into the wider Kanto region.

The excited Marisu had bumped the two Pallet Town natives playfully and mentioned food, something that Leo was a big fan of, even if his frame didn't show it. He was one of the lucky few with a motabolism that could take on a twelve course meal and leave him still wanting more. He laughed at Marisu, playfully rubbing at his arm as he made his way back outside. The sun was beaming down still and felt much hotter than before, the air conditioning of the lab giving the group of a false sense of temperature.

"Alright great, we're all in!" Leo's expression was one of total joy. "The Deerling parade is on a few time during the day so we have time for food first if you guys would like to do that? Because if i'm being honest, I skipped breakfast from all the excitement of today." Leo spoke trying to stifle a laugh. "There's plenty of places we can go here, it all depends on what you want. There are noodle bars, steak houses and for those that way inclined, vegan cafes. If you have no idea what you're craving we can just go to Nanny's. Its a diner run by the sweetest old lady you'll ever meet and she'll cook up pretty much anything you want. What do you guys think?"

Marisu

"Let's go to Nanny's then. If she can cook anything then we can also try giving our pokemon something new to eat. We usually feed them with Pokemalt at the lab so I'm sure they will appreciate the treats." Marisu raised her hand and gave Leo a thumb up.

"Food is a good way to befriend human and pokemon alike! Professor Oryza said that." She quoted one of the professor that specialize in pokemon's cuisine.

Zack Callihan

"I second going to Nanny's. I just love her spaghetti with meatballs. They are filled with lots of love to be sure!' He exclaimed rather excitedly. If this was going to be one of his last meals that he was going to be having before leaving Pallet town for who knew how long, he was going to want to have a nice, filling, delicious meal. Zack was still very much a bundle of excitement during all of this. And honestly, who wouldn't be so excited when they got their new friend for life, especially after looking forward to this for so long.

"I certainly agree with that quote. Food, especially good food really makes the world go round."

The agreement amongst the group was unanimous, Nanny's it was. Soon the group found themselves away from the open spaces of the Oak Institute and amongst the bustling streets of Pallet Town's festival. Leo guided the group through the crowds as best he could, smiling at several people along the way he recognised. All want to stop and talk disappeared when he turned to see the trio following behind. Those he recognised amongst the crowd were his past, these three were his future. Whatever was to await them in the wide open world, it would hopefully be the four of them facing it together.

The group passed a multitude of game stalls that were often at fairs as well as various rides and activities. At the centre of the festival was a large stage where some of the key draws of the festival would be held. Music, talent shows and beauty contests were all on the billing with some of the worlds biggest artists being drawn in to the participate. The headliner for the festival was kept hidden but rumours had it that one of the Elite Four would be participating.

Leo and the others reached Nanny's to find the place fairly empty, most people taking in the stalls the festival had to offer. A short, fairly plump old lady approached and gripped Leo and Zack by the cheek. "Hello you two! Who are these two lovely girls with you?" Nan knew everyone in Pallet Town on a first name basis, such was the popularity of her diner. She was well respected and loved by all, however she did love to embarass young gentlemen with a hearty cheek squeeze.

"This is Danielle and this is Marisu. Can you sit us?" Nan laughed at the question gesturing at the half empty establishment. She took Leo and Zack by their arms and dragged them to a booth next to the front window of the store. Nan pushed the boys into the one side of the booth, leaving the two girls to sit next to each other opposite the table.

"Ladies we don't have a menu, we can pretty much cater for whatever you want. So just take some time to think and i'll be back in a few minutes." Nan smiled before leaving to attend to some other patrons, giving the group time to decide.

"Does anyone have any idea what they want?"

Marisu

"E-ehh, no menu?" When Leo said Nanny could cook anything, Marisu didn't really think that Nanny would give the customer much freedom to the point of having no menu. Now she was a bit struggling deciding what she should order.

"I mean, I can just order rice bowl like I usually do in restaurant, but I want to taste something Pallet special. So, eh, I know it, I will let you order one for me, Leo. I'm not picky with food so give me something challenging to eat!" She nodded at her own decision.

"Also, I want a fruit salad, jumbo size."
