~Story~
The Hidden Whirlpool has long been a small village that even the largest of villages have come to fear. When the Uzumaki and Senju clan had a falling out, the Uzumaki clan left to form its own village, in a place so filled by whirlpool's, it was thought no boat could reach them. The Uzumaki began its own traditions and specialties, becoming so advanced in sealing techniques other countries would come to the small clan from across the world for aid, especially with the hidden weapons that were the Jinjuriki. This small clan began to adopt refugees, and others who would flock to them to learn their ways, soon developing into a proper village: The Village Hidden by Whirlpools.

It has been 80 years since its founding, and 20 years since the last great ninja war. The Whirlpool's own fame has been its greatest trial, as every nation has tried to ally with it, and threatened it if they joined their enemies, and so with great trepidation, the Whirlpool declared neutrality and survived. However, tensions began to spike between the Hidden Leaf and Mist recently, threatening all-out war once again, causing much focus to come back to the Whirlpool, asking once again "Who will you side with?". It came to quite a shock then, when the Whirlpool's answer to this was to declare they would be hosting the Chunnin exams this year and inviting both villages into itself as a show of goodwill.

The Hidden Whirlpool has never offered to host, and being a small village, has never been asked to. In addition, its well knew to be extremely secretive about its village, seldom letting anyone other than diplomats inside. It generally goes to clients even. So to host an exam is a great show of desperation for peace. Even more oddly... both the Leaf and the Mist accepted.

Welcome to Naruto: Lull and Maelstrom. We'll be doing a standard AU, set in the Hidden Whirlpool, starting with brand new genin teams who have just left the academy. They are pretty weak due to this. This is an advanced RP, so I'm expecting 2-3 paragraphs per post. So, yeah, welcome. I'm Ganryu, and I'm everyone's favorite Jackass GM. I run a tight ship, but that means I tend to have pretty good roleplays in my (not so) humble opinion. Got six people already, hoping for more! So come out down, we'd love to have you. Also, we're using discord to chat. RP is here on site. Heads up on how weak we're starting, 1 C rank and 2 D rank (and all E academy stuff) and that's it. Looking forward to the characters developing.​

    Personality

    The resident loudmouth of the Hidden Whirlpool, Tomoe with proclaiming all sorts of crazy skills. The problem is... she never lies. She's as brash as she is truthful, rushing headfirst into bizarre situations, and solving them with even more bizarre solutions.

    Tomoe's dislike lying can be a little far sometimes though. She tends to take people at face value, and run with it, meaning she is very easily lied to, a trait unbecoming of a ninja. She also will truthfully tell people what she's doing or why she's there whether or not she should.

    Tomoe really wants to be appreciated, and if anyone actually listens to her mad rants or bragging, they are instantly a friend she would happily die for. Or bring them lunch. Or repair their house. Or their bed. But not answer how she got into their house. That's just too far.
    History

    (Honestly under construction cause trying to build connections, but we need an example here damnit!)
    Refugee's such a harsh word, Tomoe prefers 'grafted into a fully functioning family'. She was originally daughter of bandit, who led a camp against nearby merchants on the river. The Hidden Whirlpool didn't like this, and sent ninjas to neutralize them. Her people were slaughtered, but a toddler was found by the ninja who had been sent. Unwilling to leave her be, the ninja instead took her, and raised her. Tomoe's never really held it against her. Bandits are bad. Tomoe just wants to repay the debt, and bet the best little kunoichi she can be. Because she's adopted, she decided to follow in her parent's foodsteps, and also become a ninja.

    Unfortunate, Tomoe's way of thinking, while it doesn't impede her, definitely makes her journey interesting. In the academy, she was asked how she would fight an armored opponent. She seemed to zone out, and the instructor couldn't get her to pay attention or answer the question. There was an armored dummy he had to used as a prop. Another student simply threw a kunai at the weakpoints. But it took two throws. Tomoe didn't like that, she could miss. So she left, and went to the weapons shop. She spent all her money on a warhammer, walked into class, and destroyed that dummy.

    The teacher was... in a bit of shock to say the least, and began to ask her all sorts of questions of how she thought that was a practical weapon, or how she would sneak past enemy lines. Each question he asked, she came up with an answer, revelling in his shocked expressions.

    When he asked what they wanted to specialize in, he nearly had an aneurism when she mentioned stealth while wielding the hammer.

    And so her days went, she wasn't sure if she graduated due to ability or the fact he simply didn't want to put up with her anymore. She had the skill thoughs. Totally had the skills. Infact, she'd show off for her teammates right away... as soon as they get assigned.

Explanation:
Ability points you can spend on tools or jutsu, or other abilities as they come up. You start with 4.

Costs:
D-rank - 1 point
C-rank - 2 points
B-rank - 4 points
A-rank - 8 points
S is locked.
Non standard items (like a warhammer, you know, ninja stuff) is generally 1 point. Standard items are free long as you don't go overboard.

Derived Jutsu:
Point of this RP is to level up. I don't want people just suddenly grabbing an A-rank genjutsu without ever having had a genjutsu their entire stay in the RP. For you to get a rank higher of jutsu ,you NEED, NEED to derive it from something weaker.

Example: Chidori
Grab a D-rank lightning blast, simple blast of lightning or the like.
Level it up to Lightning Release: Lightning Beast Tracking Fang
Grab Chidori Senbo
You're good to grab Chidori
(Go for Raikiri because you're a godkiller)

You need some weaker version of it to level up. I'm pretty flexible, work with me.

Fighting Style: I just want a quick description of how you plan on fighting. Give it a name. No, it costs nothing. If it changes, great.

Jonin - Jonin sheets are for sensei's. I'm not going to bother with derived jutsu for them for one simple reason. Their technique list is their 'battle ready' list. Those are the jutsu you can expect them to pull out in the middle of a fight. Kakashi knew 1,000 jutsu, but stayed with his regular pool for fighting. So assume they have more jutsu, just not stuff they're really well known for. This lets them teach easier. They also don't have Ability points because they aren't leveling up, more NPC's than anything.

~The Hidden Whirlpool Village~ ​
A rather industrial little village, high rises litter the place, reaching across a rather large network of bridges over the river that lead out to sea. It is at the end of the mouth of the river that the hidden whirlpools the village is famous for reside, and even veteran ninja are hesitant to pass through there on foot. Many sailors are paid rather large amounts of money to navigate out of this treacherous island. As this village reaches out to their clients, ninja are often ferried through this pass.

The island itself has several forests throughout it littered with training grounds. The Village Leader has recently begun to expand them rapidly, making training new ninja a priority for the upcoming chunnin exams. There is only one academy, and about 100 ninja in the entire village. The Village Leader is looking to expand this, and rapidly.

~The Village Leader~​
The village leader is Kenshin Uzumaki, and has always been Kenshin Uzumaki. Many think that this is simply a name passed down and whoever assumes the title takes the name as well, with the retiring leader resuming his old name at the end of his line as no one has met an old Kenshin. Kenshin has no wife or blood children, but has adopted several 'brats' from less fortunate situations, giving them reason to live as ninjas. As a leader, he is fiercely neutral, avoiding conflict at all cost. Many say its because he's a coward, but those who support him say that's the point. Everyone underestimates a coward, yet despite countless missions, no one knows how exactly Kenshin fights. He is the ace of the village, and refuses to be revealed.

With the village being so small, the village leader has no trouble with personally over seeing any training requests, and it is said he knows every jutsu ever used in the village. Its likely more myth than anything due to the number of Kekkei Genkais.

~Clans~​
The largest clan of the Hidden Whirlpool is the Uzumaki clan, well known for their vitality and relation to the Senju in the Hidden Leaf. However, due to the Hidden Whirlpool's large reach, they've managed to draw in many refugees and stray clans across the world. A few have even begun to have sway in the village.
Ruling: If you are wanting to be from the Uzumaki clan, check the roster to make sure no one else is. If they are, go figure out how you two are related before you come to me. Also, be prepared to be harassed by someone asking how you're related.
