Experiences RPN-like sites in other languages? (Questions/poll for bilinguals!)

roleplaying is fun!
So, to all of you whose mother tongue is not English, I have a few questions:
- What is your mother tongue?
- Do you only roleplay in English?
- Do you find it easier to find roleplay sites in English rather than in your mother tongue? That is, are there more English-speaking roleplay sites than there are in your mother tongue?
- If you want to ask anything or discuss anything else related, feel free to do so!

My native language is English but I do speak German and I've asked this question in forums before too! This is the only good RP site I've found in English since the community from DA disappeared and I was searching for some sites in German too but they all have less than fifty members! Which is super disappointing!

My first language isn’t English- heck, it isn’t even my second or third seeing as my country has only one official language, and a really strange mix of other minority languages. (I would like to believe I have a good grasp on English, seeing as none of my RP partners so far have realized this.)

I only RP in English. I have never RP-ed in my mother language and, to be honest, I wouldn’t do it even if I had the chance. (I seriously doubt any good sites in my language even exist to begin with.) I’m a very awkward person when it comes to socializing (even if it’s done from behind a screen) and writing in English, a language most people around me don’t know, somehow makes things easier. It hard to explain why- that’s just how it is ... so yeah, I guess that awkwardly concludes my mini-rant.

Dreamer out~

Hey I appreciate it anyway!! My native language is English so obviously I don't have Thisbe problem which is why I reached out to ou guys! A friend of mine (native language is German) wanted to Get into RPing and just like you, others have said they should just do it in English. It will help with language skills too!

Also you don't have a "grasp on the language. From your response, you've mastered it as far as writing goes!! So proud! I know how difficult it can be.

I much prefer RP’ing in English, despite it not being my native tongue. The language is just much nicer sounding and fits literature much better. Plus, of course, it allows me to RP with the whole world instead of a language about 20 million speak

This seems interesting~
So my native language is Norwegian, but I actually prefer RPing, and generally writing, in English. I don't know why, just something about how expressive the language is and that I am better at finding fitting words to describe things.

Thank you all for answering. I'll chime in with some anecdotes and a bit about my perspective right now:
I actually started roleplaying in Spanish—my native tongue—in a Pokemon forum back in 2009 or so? I didn't know it was roleplay and only now can I identify it as that. It was a different kind of roleplay: basically, you started writing your journey and an admin would write wild pokemon encounters, NPCs and all that. Evidently, there was practically no collaborative writing in the sense of having a partner.

Anyways, I started RPing seriously in English probably in Chatzy and then when I joined RPN. I started because I wanted to practice my writing and my English. But now my Spanish seems to need some work too! So I went and searched for active Spanish RP forums... you wouldn't imagine how hard it'd been to find one! I found one that is barely alive...

The Spanish RP places I've seen were all informal, short, and chatty, done in places like Amino, Facebook, or Twitter, and evidently abandoned quickly.

I started roleplaying in Norwegian which is my mother tongue, and I've actually yet to roleplay in English although I hope to change that soon haha. The site which I did rp on was not a rp themed site at all, but it did have an rp session in its forums which was where I got started. It no longer exists though, and I've yet to see another which is partly why I've decided to give English rping a go.

I started roleplaying in my native language first. There was a point where I had my own forums a part of which was dedicated to roleplaying.
I also tried to rp in English around the time but it didn't work out (only had inconsistent groups and bad experiences). Then I stopped rp for a while but when I resumed, it was almost exclusively in English. And I find it easier to rp in English.
I don't know why, but I suspect that it's because I'm less critical. Maybe when I'm writing not in native language I have lesser feel of the language and can have some issues slide that I immediately notice in my native language. That is not to say I don't put any effort in English, but it's still easier overall for me to rp.
Also the range of potential rp partners is bigger in English, since a lot more people speak it and I can also communicate with people from other countries who know English too. I think most of my rp partners are non-native English speakers as well but we have no issues with that.
I still occasionally rp in my native language and I know of a few communities, but honestly it doesn't matter because I only rp 1x1 and there is no difference since it's always somewhere in Google docs/whatever else, we don't need communities for that.
