The shadows dance in an odd way, which shouldn't be so considering how Caden's lumos spell does not flicker nor shift in intensity like a flame would. It's clear, bright and steadfast like the castor, which leaves only one other reason open: This was an illusion. The shadows that is, Caden highly doubts a spell could make a tunnel feel and look so real.

What bugs him more than the moving shadows was Phyrun, who's voice only seemed amplified in the silence, despite his best attempts to keep things quiet. Secretly, Caden appreciates the small step taken away, giving the blonde more room to himself. The small gesture does not go unnoticed but Caden could never express how grateful he is that Phyrun understands.

Instead of using words, Caden shakes his head at Phyrun's question. With his free hand light grazing the wall, all they could do is walk forward, but as they did, the tunnel walls seem to draw closer and closer, turning narrower by the step. Just as Caden was about to ask Phyrun to turn back, he notices that the ground behind them had disappeared, leaving nothing but a deep abyss.

Well, shit.

Guess there was no turning back either. Instead of fear, Caden feels a touch of annoyance accompanied by a truckload of disappointment and boredom. There was so much more he could be doing with his time right now. He sighed internally to himself, hoping that the afamed "Test of Courage" did not amount to simply walking around in a dark space for an hour.

"I'm trying my best!" Keith had hissed, though really, he had just accidentally jammed his knee into Elliot's mouth, purely unintentional. Who knew standing on a buff Hufflepuff would be harder than it looked? Fortunately, Keith wasn't known as a troublemaker (sometimes even nicknamed monkey) for nothing. Without much hitch, he manages to get up to the trapdoor, pulling Elliot up alongside with him. Hell, if he could scale The Three Broomsticks, he could definitely accomplish this little feat.

Shoving the trap door to a close the moment Elliot was up on the "ceiling" with him, the screeching sound of bats down below (despite most of them turning into black mush) quiet down almost immediately. With a breath of relief, Keith returned the high five, his signature confident smirk etching back onto his face. "I wouldn't have expected any less from the two of us," Keith replied, a hint of smugness in his voice as he got up as well. Checking his surroundings, Keith frowned, seeing that they were almost back in the same location they were before, except this time there was nobody around. Was this the end of the test already?

His brows furrowed. It can't have been that easy, could it? If so, Mcgonagall really was going soft on them...

"Hey, Eli. Hold up real quick. What do you think that is?" Unlike Elliot who wanted to avoid the glowing light, Keith seemed interested in doing the exact opposite, walking towards the light instead. Grabbing his friend's arm, he dragged the Hufflepuff alongside with him, preventing him from taking the right path. As they turned the corner, the light became blinding, forcing their eyes to a close.

When the light dimmed enough for them to reopen their eyes, Keith found they were no longer in a maze but trapped in a pitch black room. Again.

Great. Just great.

He blinked once and rubbed his eyes, wondering if it was a trick of light, but no matter what he did, the darkness remained the same. "Damn," Keith groaned, pulling out his wand to shake out a much needed Lumos spell. Unfortunately no matter what he did, no light would form. Was this some sort of light vacuum they were in?

"Shit, I don't think light is going to reach us here, Eli. Do you think we can turn back or--"

"Who do you think you're touching, Anderson?" said a voice who was definitely not Elliot.

Suddenly Alex found himself the labyrinth. He was standing outside with Emma when a group next to them began to move. Alex came caught up with the group and now he was in the labyrinth. All by himself, not something he had planned for. Alex looked around, there was no way back. Damnit he thought by himself. The only way was forward. To the sides of him were bushes so tall that it looked like they reached the sky. There was something weird with the sky, before he entered the sky was dark, now the sun was shining.

Alex was walking forwards when he suddenly heard a roar. He looked up to the sky and saw a small dragon flying through the air. He took his wand from his pocket and followed the dragon. The dragon roared again. Alex had shivers down his spine. This roar was different, he could hear that the animal was in pain. The hedge of the labyrinth had widen. The dragon landed. The distance between them was around a quarter of a mile, but Alex knew that the dragon could reach him within seconds. Luckily for him the dragon was not facing him. Alex kept low to the ground and approached the dragon. He had noticed that there was a gate in the hedge. That was probably the exit. Unlucky Alex, the Dragon was sitting infront of it.

Even Alex knew that he couldn't face the dragon alone. If Emma had been here, they maybe had a chance, but now? none. The dragon kept roaring in pain and began to spit fire. The dragon hadn't noticed him yet, probably because it was too distracted by something that was causing his pain. When Alex came closer to the dragon he noticed a bit metal ring around one of the legs of the dragon. It looked like the metal was freezing. Suddenly the dragon stopped and looked Alex right in his eyes. "Shit" exclaimed the redhead before he had to duck away because the dragon was spitting fire in his direction. Alex noticed his robe caught fire, he conjured a jet of water of water to extingush the fire.

Now the dragon had noticed him, he had to come up with a plan quicky. The dragon had noticed Alex, but stayed on his place. The gate was still blocked. The dragon continued spitting fire on him. While he kept ducking away from the fires he tried to think of a solution. Maybe if he got rid of the metal band it would help. For that he had to distract the dragon. But what would work? Alex wasn't sure. His overthinking was not helping. After a fire nearly set his hair on fire he got an idea.

"AVIS" He shouted and a flock of birds came out of his wand. For a few seconds the dragon was distracted by all the birds. Alex quickly ran to the dragon to get a good look at the metal. There was a lock on it, but before he could say 'Alohomora' the dragon was again interested in his meal, Alex. Alex ducked away and got nearly hit by the tail of the dragon. The gate was within reach now, but he couldn't turn his back to the dragon, it would be too dangerous.

"AVIS" he shouted agian, and another flock of birds distracted the dragon. "ALOHOMORA" he continued, and the metal band fell of the leg of the dragon. Suddenly relieved from pain, the dragon spread his wings and flies away. Alex shouted another unlocking charm and quickly went through the gate. Alex expected another part of the labyrinth, but he found himself in a pitchblack room.

Someone touched him and Alex turned around. His eyes started to adjust to the level of light (none) and he noticed Anderson. "Who do you think you're touching, Anderson"

Sofia Park
[mood: less then impressed] [location: Hedge Maze]

The silver trio normally would decide together to do something like this together but since Bella had gone out and decided that she wanted to start dating a Hufflepuff I guess all there rules were had been chucked out of the window. Sofia eyes were train on Bella as she interacted with students from every single house, laughing, flirting and generally enjoying herself, it made Sofia sick so sick that the raven hair women stood from her seat and walked out of the great hall and up to the female toilets. Upon entering Sofia spotted 3 Hufflepuff girls "Get out!" Sofia snapped her glance so fierce that the 3 girls ran from the toilet. Sofia turned on the tap, splashing her face with water to try and calm herself down but nothing seemed to be able to settle the raging anger rising within Sofia. Sofia felt wronged by Bella, while Sofia went through the worst time of her life the only thing Bells could think of was to send flowers? Sofia needed her best friends there to help her get through this. But what hurt the most for Sofia was that once she returned to Hogwarts she found out that Bella's top priority had been making brand new friends and also flirting with this Hufflepuff. She felt forgotten about by her closest and most trusted friend, all these feelings combined with the new loneliness she felt was just all becoming too much for Sofia, she just wanted things to go back to how they were last year when she was happy.

"The Slytherin Princess is crying?" Myrtle teases sat upon one of the toilets. Myrtle was enough for Sofia to snap out of her emotional moment as the burning anger returned instantly and dried up all her tears. "Shut up bitch." Sofia snaps to the ghost as she wipes her tears from her cheeks and walked out the toilet heading towards the Quidditch Fields where the rest of the participants were already. She spotted Sebastian who she hadn't properly been able to say Hello to yet. "Seb!" Sofia calls to him with a rare smile on her face. She hoped that he would have remained the same but seeing that stinking half-blood next to him reassured Sofia to he was just like Bella, unloyal. Sofia's face turned into stone after seeing Sebastian with that disgusting half-blood. "Seems like a lot has changed since last year, both you and Bella are slumming it with the undesirables." Sofia says her arms crossed as she couldn't even look at Sebastian anymore out of pure disgust from him socialising with a slut.

Sofia spotted Keith Anderson, He was a cocky little shit in Sofia's opinion but he was one of the lucky few Sofia talked too outside of the Slytherin House. The test of courage seemed to be beginning shortly and Sofia still lacked a partner, The Dark Lord must of been watching Sofia in that moment as the Hufflepuff girl who Bella was so keen on also seemed to be lacking a partner and so Sofia made her way over. "I've also been left out by them" Sofia says with a sickly sweet smile to the Hufflepuff "I'm Sofia, want to be my partner?" Sofia to the Hufflepuff before glancing over at Bella. Sofia had a little prank that she wanted to play on the Hufflepuff to realese some of this pent up anger, keeping your emotions all pent up isn't healthy you know.

Belladonna Coben
The Slytherin, without even giving Aivree the slight courtesy of looking at her, rolled her eyes and reluctantly waved her friend good - bye. Who did the girl think she was? Ordering her teammate around, depriving her of the precious and limited time she had with her best friend before the task - when Bella would probably end up doing must of the work anyways. Belladonna had managed to put up a facade for Penelope, but she wasn't sure how well it would hold up during the task. Gods forbid something bad were to happen to Aivree and her teammate would be too busy winning the challenge for them to save her.

"Wonderful," Belladonna commented as they arrived to the Quidditch pitch. "Wonder what life - threatening activities our wonderful professors have planned for us. Do you ever wonder if we have this activities because the more students die the less essays they have to grade?"

After a doubtful look from Mcgonagall, Belladonna couldn't blame her from her reaction to the strange pairing, the girls were through the entrance. Pitch black darkness surrounded them and the girl quickly raised her wand and assumed a defensive stance, waiting for any creature to attack. Not a minute went by before candles started lighting up by themselves, revealing multiple large rings scattered around a long hallway seemingly missing a floor. In the center of each of the rigs floated four small, brightly coloured diamonds. All of which Belladonna tried to summon with an "accio!", only for them to taunt her by floating nearby before quickly returning to their previous location. At the end of the hallway, past the levitating rings, stood a single door in a platform similar to the one the girls found themselves in.

"How do they expect us to-" Belladonna wondered, before she had to duck to miss an incoming broom. It barely scraped her silver hair, before it parked in front of the Gryffindor girl. "Flying, of course, figures..." she mused, for the first time glad she had been paired with someone who actually knew how to fly a broom without crashing and falling. It didn't take a genius to understand what they had to do; fly inside the rigs, collect the diamonds and somehow use them to open the door. They couldn't only be there for decoration, after all.

"Well, Aivree, I hope you're fancying a good- shit!" In that moment, a strong gust of what she could only guess was wind flew past her. Hitting Aivree full-force in the face and knocking her to the ground. Belladonna quickly ran to her teammate, hoping this accident wouldn't completely incapacitate her and cost them their price. "Tell me you're alive or I swear on the Dark Lord's grave I will murder you."

Penelope Hottle
Quidditch Fields || Sort of brave || Evening

A test of courage by herself seemed a little nerve wracking. With another person, it would open up a completely different game. It became a test of not only courage, but of teamwork. If one person's fear was working against them, the other could lend a hand. Partners could offer their strengths up to cover each other's weaknesses. Besides, it is easier to be brave for someone else than to be brave for one's self. At least, that much was true for Penelope. If her friends were with her, she'd have the courage to go up against nearly anything because she knew she'd be doing it for them and they'd have her back. By herself she felt... small, unimportant. She couldn't summon the same bravery. She spent so much time making friends because isolation terrified her. The brunette's fingers mindlessly traveled to her loose locks and began a simple braid. Her nerves began to build, thoughts of inferiority and inability chipping away at her normally positive mindset. Should she turn back? Was it too late? She could tell her friends she simply wasn't feeling well. Maybe she'd overate. Maybe she had come down with a bit of a cold. She could fake some sniffling. Coughs were easy to force. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea...

Just as Penelope's head turned back to see how far the walk back would be, her eyes were met with a sight she hadn't expected, one that made her jump a bit, out of surprise mostly. A pretty face. Freckles. Raven hair. It wasn't altogether unfamiliar, but certainly not common. Sofia. She was one of the Slytherins Bella was good friends with but, whereas Sebastian went out of his way to patronize other students, this girl was usually seen among other Slytherins. Maybe it was out of shyness, Penelope liked to think, but she knew as well as anyone else that it was probably out of a strong dislike, the same one Bella had once had, the one Sebastian couldn't shake. But, in all reality, she could hardly know. Sofia was one of the ones that was more of a mystery to her. At the mention of being left out, Penelope's heart softened a bit. The Hufflepuff knew what that feeling was like; if she could alleviate it in another person, why wouldn't she? Everyone deserved a fair shot.. Or, at least, that's what she figured after realizing there was no polite way she could say no or get out of this whole thing now. There was no easy excuse. Besides, maybe this wouldn't be so bad. She seemed nice enough, right?

"Penelope," she held out her hand, a smile on her lips. "Sure! You're friends with Bella, right?"

At least they had something in common, she thought to herself. Maybe Sofia would be a friend of Bella's she could actually get on her side. Sebastian was a lost cause, that was for sure. If she got Sofia to befriend her, she'd break even. Win one lose one. It wouldn't be so bad. Besides, if she's Bella's friend, there have to be some good qualities in there. Pen just needed to get to know her. Maybe this would be fun, even. It couldn't be so scary. Besides, she now had someone to work with, someone to rely on, someone to fight for. The entrance came closer and closer. She soon realized her friends had already gone inside. It was her turn now. Caramel eyes turned to her new partner, a brave smile on her face. She was a little more determined now. "We should rip the bandage off, yeah?" With that, she stepped into the maze.

This was going really well. The sentence, however, could be taken literally or ironically. The way the Hufflepuff beauty had fallen into his arms was almost theatrical. Hilarious. Pathetic, he thought. As they walked, her hand in his, he could almost feel her little squirming, the shifting gaze that people sent the two was anything but unnoticeable. Stepping out towards the Quidditch pitch, the moon hung courageously upon the dark sky. Pairs after pairs walked in, passing the new headmaster they all knew too well. Subconsciously, he rolled his eyes. He was never much a fan of the professor, and despite him being the most “well-behaved” out of the trio, it appears that McGonnagal doesn’t like him very much either. That was alright, she never had the eyes for talent anyway.

Sebastian yanked Mila closer to him as the two passed the other students, a deliberate bragging act. Having the most beautiful girl of Hogwarts by his side, he wondered how many envied his place. Her dark hair contrasting her white skin, rosy cheeks. Their fingers interlaced, her hands were soft and warm. Her eyes glowed as he stole a glance to her and he wondered how a product of such a sacrilege can be so…beautiful.

And for a split second, a memory emerged, one of a younger girl, the same blue eyes. Swinging her legs back and forth as she sat in the train compartment, first day to Hogwarts. Shorter, blonde-r. Happier.

Quickly he removed his gaze from the Hufflepuff and for once he was left wordless. Sebastian without a snarky line? Impossible. From the distance, he could see Bella and her partner, disappearing in a corner. A fleeting memory of a certain curly haired Slytherin passed his mind, one he has tried to shake off for months long. Without him noticing, his hand slipped from her grip. How much have they changed?

Seb!

The suddenness and familiarness of the voice dragged him back. His eyes brightened as he saw Sofia running towards him, but as her grin fade, so did his. As the other Slytherin girl started shooting accusations at him, he tried to wink at her. What did she expect, he’s actually enjoying his time with a *dirty half-blood*? The audacity! There was no way, right? Right? Watching her dash off, he sighed. He can’t break the chance now, not after she agreed. Not like it was hard, but perhaps a part of him just wanted a night without conflict for once. After this, the three of them definitely would need a talk.

Sebastian gave Mila a smile. After all, the last thing he would want is for the Hufflepuff to see him like this. He was supposed to be charming, confident, *perfect*. Just the way everyone expects him to be- just the way father would have expected him to. The entrance to the so called 'Test of Courage' was right before them. He took her hand again. “Ready, princess?”

With that they entered, a mild chill ran over him as they passed the magic. The crowd dissipated, so did all things. All that was left was darkness and silence.
“Lumos,” he chanted out of reflex, whipping his wand out. But when he expected a blank, open space (perhaps with a little trickery or two), he was instantly met with a face of another student.

“STUPE-eeed Merlin, did your ugly goblin face give me a scare!” He said, almost wishing he did say stupefy instead.

The encroaching darkness didn't scare him - Petrovic's wand light was steady despite the shifting of the shadows - nor did the narrowing walkway. He fell back a bit, falling into step at the other's back when it became clear it would not be comfortable for either of them to keep walking side by side. And then the walkway narrowed more and he almost wanted to scream. It wasn't a panic of having no way out; it was the panic of something terrible about to happen that he needed to stop.

He took a step back when the other turned. Whether to ask him something or turn around, he wasn't sure, but Petrovic's expression peaked his interest and he glanced back.

He took a skittered step sideways, putting himself far closer to Petrovic than either of them really needed to be but the other student had yet to move a bit deeper and Phyrun was not comfortable standing at the edge of the deep abyss. "Oh, come on," he ground out as he winced from his magic reacting. There was a desire to do something, to correct this, but his magic even coming up to heed his unconscious desire burned.

The darkness behind him shimmered - with how he had turned, he and Petrovic were roughly face to face without actually standing toe to toe, which meant that Petrovic had clear view of what Phyrun felt. Though, even as Phyrun turned expecting to see the tunnel he knew was now there, the darkness with its shifty shadows hadn't seemed to change. Frowning, he reached out.

His hand passed through the shadows and didn't meet any resistance. The tingle of another's magic made his frown deepen. Instead of the simple presence of magic, it felt like his hand and arm were waking up after a lack of blood flow. There was no doubt in his mind that was because of his stupidity before this whole thing. Petrovic would only feel the presence of magic, if he was tuned to that kind of thing.

Another thrum of magic and the need to be somewhere had him taking a step forward even as he spoke in a low whisper, "Maybe this way. Come on."

He didn't really wait for Petrovic, though he did stop partway into the shadows to make sure the other was coming. He couldn't cast a simple Lumos and was going to be relying on Petrovic for magic; there wasn't a guarantee the lumos would even work within the new tunnel. He couldn't see his hand in the shadows. Hopefully it was a distance thing and it would be enough if they were in the shadows fully.

Without another glance back, he stepped through.

He wasn't sure if he had even walked very far or if they had been teleported on some level because the next thing he knew he had a wand tip in his face and a rather familiar voice grating against the tunnel walls.

He arched an eyebrow at the interesting choice of a verbal save as the wand tip's light returned to the bright white of a lumos charm. "Hmm, probably should have followed through with that spell, Bludmond. I would rather be unconscious than deal with whatever delay you're going to cause." He turned to Petrovic, doing his best - and starting to fail - just how badly the thrum of magic was affecting his self control. "Thoughts on if this leads somewhere other than the entrance?" he asked, his voice soft again. He didn't expect it to go anywhere but the entrance but he was willing to hear Petrovic's opinion, especially after all the chaos they had gone through.

Upon realizing the trick to this underground tunnel, something flickers briefly in pale eyes. Annoyance? With himself, likely. The emotion is hardly directed towards Phyrun though in the dim light, Caden would not put it past the male to miss the blonde's hidden frustration. He should've noticed sooner. Merlin's beard, how long would he have continued walking if he hadn't? Despite his internal feelings, his visage remains as impassive as always.

With a nod at Phyrun, the look in his eyes rounding to silent appreciation, Caden follows without hesitation into the midst. Something shift around him, the magic weaving its spell as they enter from one illusion to another. The transition makes his insides shudder and Caden's face hardens upon seeing the two students before him, both infamous in their own ways.

Gods. As if things can't get any worse...

Though he does not take a physical step back, Caden emotionally recedes from the conversation, remaining a step behind Phyrun as his ravenclaw friend sharply responds to the Slytherin's near-casted spell. His expression does not change but there is a lack of light in his eyes as he lowers his wand and averts his attention elsewhere. The hedges, the unchanging night sky---anything to keep himself from meeting the eye of the half-veela and obnoxious pureblood acquaintance. (He did not want to be charmed by one nor rouse the interest or attention of the other; both were troublesome to deal with and Caden hated dealing with crowds more than one.)

With a quiet, inaudible sigh, he flicks his wrist and the lumos spell undoes itself. His attention only turns back when addressed. With a shake of his head, Caden replies finally, "We'd be lucky if it was that easy." He glances around once more as though searching for something but pale eyes eventually settle back on Phyrun's sneakers. He stares at it thoughtfully for a second before looking up at the male.

"How good is your balance?" He asks, his hand waving in motions to cast a flight charm spell---it was a shame it only worked on inanimate objects. Maybe getting a bird's eye view of things can help them get their bearings soon; and the sooner that happens, the sooner Caden could get out of the mess Anderson dragged him into.

"Holy shit--Wesley?! You're not Eli," Keith cringed as his hand pulled back as though the redhead burned him. The look Keith sported at Alex was disconcerting and the Gryffindor had done none of it to offend the poor male. Clearly taken aback, his composure is regained though the charade of surprise continues on in a trying performance. "Where did Eli go? El! Ellllll, Elliot, Broooo," Keith's voice booms unashamedly loud as he looks around, even checking behind Alex to find his friend. It's a ridiculous show, granted Elliot was large in his built and hard to miss.

"Shit. Looks like it's just you and me, Lex, my pal," Keith says in a sigh. His lips curl into a faint half-frown, half-pout as he hooks an arm around the redhead, completely discrediting his personal space. They may not be the best of buds but that doesn't stop Keith from acting as though they are. "I didn't know you signed up for the Test of Courage too. You should've told me," Keith goes on, "First things first though, where the actual fuck are we? Don't tell me we're in another flesh-eating bat room. I just got out of that one."

Just as he speaks, the shadows around them begin to shift, blending into colors of deep violet, indigo and grey and in another blink, everything stills. There are thin, pale trees all around and the crinkling of dead leaves beneath his feet tells them clearly where they are.

Fuck, looks like they're back in the forest---the one place, Keith has been trying to avoid ever since his little draconem incident. The last thing he wanted was to attract more attention from the Ministry of Magic who have been investigating the forests since then. "Are you kidding me," Keith curses underneath his breath, "Where are we going to find the exit in a fucking forest?"

Great. From everyone he could have encountered, it was homo midget and his giant cock-block of a friend. So much for hoping a night alone with Mila. He did not expect that the gates could lead to the same location as another student, yet perhaps with all these participants, they were bound to cross into each other’s paths sooner or later. It was better than meeting Anderson, he had thought, though that thought itself felt insincere.

Hearing the Ravenclaw’s snarky remark almost made him wish he did cast the spell. “You-“ he began, but then stopped himself. Lowering his wand, he gripped it tightly, his knuckles whitened. After all, he needed to keep a good impression for Mila. They were too early in the game to mess it up. He took a side-glance towards the half-veela girl, in the dim light of his lumos her face glowed, her features appeared more prominent and strong. He took her hand in his, as though asserting his claim.

Behind the Prefect was yet another student. At first he did not quite recognize him, perhaps just another Ravenclaw. Perhaps the other Ravenclaw boy was not the type that stood out much, though knowing Sebastian, he never really paid much attention to faces anyway. Vaguely he remembered that he was a prefect. Maybe. They all looked the same.

“There’s no need for such aggression, Dalca,” the Slytherin frowned. “It’s all fun and games, I’m not here for trouble. Why is it that whenever we meet you assume that I’d bring you harm?”

Because he usually does- but that was outside of the point, so he’d dismiss it. His eyes met the supposed other prefect, Sebastian hesitated to nod in greeting. Instead, he simply turned and pointed the edge of his wand elsewhere. Narrow walls surrounded them, and upwards…

“What is this place?” he thought aloud, narrowing his eyes. There was only endless darkness abound, too dark to have been the plain night sky. There is a limit. When whos-his-name Ravenclaw spoke, he turned back, raising his eyebrows. Balance?

That motion. He quickly stepped back slightly- a bit behind Mila. Sebastian knew while he was popular, smart, and incredibly of value- he had many enemies. So perhaps it’s a wise choice to take precautions, if he did not want to end in a fight. He could not recall if he did anything especially bad towards pale boy over there, yet he perhaps did not remember half the cruel things he did to people’s lives. It was their fault for being weak after all.

As the spell hit Dalca, he let out a scoff. “Really? This is your grand idea? And I thought Ravenclaws should be smarter, or does that stereotype stem from nothing?”

Oops. Don’t be mean.

It was as though he could feel the gaze from the Hufflepuff beauty. Sebastian wiped the snicker off his face, clearing his throat. He still did a mock wave at Dalca, however. “Good luck. You’ll need it.”

Eli
-not having a great time honestly-

The fog creeped in without him noticing, and by then it was too late. He could barely see two feet in front of him. Instinctively he reached out to where his partner had been just moments before.

"Keith?"

Silence. He fumbled about, calling out for his friend blindly until suddenly the fog and his lit wand shed light on an empty path. Hedges lined a neat corridor on either side of him, and nothing else.

"Dammit," Eli swore, kicking a rock sulkily. He'd gone and jinxed himself. His Gryffinbro was nowhere in sight despite his best efforts to stay together. He sighed and chose a direction at random, feeling a lot more enthusiastic about this trial now that he was on his own. For a few minutes there was only the sound of his own footsteps and he made his way to what was hopefully the center. Then he heard it. A soft skittering sound. At first he thought it was his imagination. He paused and heard nothing. Continuing again, he heard it, louder this time. When he stopped the noise continued for just a second longer. Whirling around, he saw nothing. He walked backwards slowly, keeping an eye out for whatever was following him. The light of his wand cast strange shadows against the leaves and he felt a shiver run down his spine, feeling as if something was watching him.

Then his back collided with something and he let out a yelp as he fell over with a loud thump. Eli groaned, winded from the fall. But he perked up when he heard a familiar voice.

"Pene?" He asked, squinting in the dim light, somehow sounding enthusiastic even in that one syllable. "Man, I'm so glad to see you. Keith ditched me," He complained, completely forgetting the things that had been stalking him moments before.

Penelope Hottle
Maze|| Maybe a little scared || Evening

It felt almost like a cruel joke when Penelope found herself utterly lost and alone after only a mere couple steps into the maze. Had Sofia just up and abandoned her? Was it a case of cold feet? Did the maze separate them on purpose? While she wanted to give the ravenette the benefit of the doubt, but she'd also had more than her fair share of bullying at the hands of Slytherins and she couldn't get the nagging thought out of her mind that Sofia might have offered to go with her just to abandon her for a laugh. Well, there wasn't much use thinking about it now. No matter which way she cut it, she was now completely and unequivocally alone. And, by Merlin's beard, she was scared. Penelope had never fared particularly well alone; it was precisely why she always surrounded herself with friends. At the very least she'd have her little participation trophy trio with her. Nowadays, things were a little tough even with that group what with all the... problems... she'd been having in her relationship with Mila these days. She missed the old days when they could just sit at the Great Hall and joke around, back when they hardly even interacted with the Slytherins, but she couldn't say she disliked being around Bella now. Where was her friend now, she wondered. Hopefully things were going well with Aivree and they hadn't ripped each other's heads off.

"Alright Hottle," she muttered to herself, looking out at the maze, "you can't just stand around here all day! Let's get a move on."

Talking to herself made her feel less alone. She began her walk through the maze with... absolutely no strategy in mind. It was aimless wandering, really. She could hardly tell where she'd come from, much less where she was going. There was no way she'd get out of the maze, but she also had a feeling it would be impossible to manually pass it. It was a test of courage, not smarts. Unfortunately for her, she sort of felt that she lacked both. But, regardless, there was no way the map was going to just let her walk out and she knew it. All she could do was wait for some kind of test of courage. However, as she kept walking, she heard the sounds of other students talking and she ran towards it. When she got to where she thought the sound was coming from, it was empty and silent. She'd walk a little further and the same thing would happen. The sound of people. She'd run towards it. Right when she'd think she found them, she'd turn the corner and the noise would stop. She repeated this pattern at least a dozen times. The frustration slowly built as she kept trying to find people who would never be there. Was this some kind of joke? Why couldn't she find anyone? Were they hiding from her? Was this some sick way to make fun of her? She repeated the same pattern of behavior another half dozen times with the anxiety building in her chest. Penelope felt the familiar prickly feeling of tears welling up in her eyes. She dug her nails into her palm, trying to get herself to calm down and focus. Well, if it hadn't worked the first eighteen time - and, frankly, she was out of breath at this point, chest heaving - maybe she should stop running towards the voices.

So, at the sound of the next voice, Pen walked the opposite direction. She crossed her arms and ignored the voice, taking as many turns as she could to get away from it. Soon enough, it disappeared and Pen was left wondering if she'd done the wrong thing. Then, she heard a familiar voice in the distance. Bella's voice. Though she couldn't make out what the girl was saying, she instinctively wanted to start walking towards it, but she caught herself. No. It probably wasn't even really Bella. So, she started walking away from the sound. A few steps in, the voice got louder and Penelope changed directions again. This seemed to work for a minute before the noise started up again. Except this time it wasn't just Belladonna's voice she could hear... it was Mila's too. And they were... laughing? A pit formed in Penelope's stomach. She dug her nails deeper into her palms, trying to not focus on it but bloody hell did she want to know what they were saying. It wasn't that she didn't trust them but.... well, she didn't trust them. She stood in place, unable to move forward but using all her self control to not move backwards either. The sounds got louder, more audible until she could finally make out what they were saying.

"Can you believe Penelope bought it?" Bella's laugh was unmistakable.
"Of course I can! I've had to be friends with her for sooooo long. It's a chore but at least she'll believe anything I say."

"I just hate having to hide it with you, you know?"
"Well, we don't have to hide here, do we?"

Penelope couldn't tell if she wanted to vomit, cry, or throw a fit. She tried to tell herself none of it was real but... what if it was? What if she had actually just stumbled upon Bella and Mila having a rendezvous in the maze? What if-- OW! Penelope was snapped out of her spiral by the sharp pain in her hand. She opened her left hand to see that she'd managed to dig her nails so deep that she'd actually drawn blood. She'd have to get that wrapped when she got out of the maze. At least it wasn't her wand hand. But the pain gave her a moment of clarity, a moment back in reality and not in her head. She was in the maze. It was a test of courage. All the other voices weren't real - why would this one be? But still, the temptation of following it was incredibly strong. If she kept hearing it, it'd whittle away her resolve. So, she did what any reasonable person would do: she started shouting wand-related rhymes.

"ROWAN GOSSIPS, CHESTNUT DRONES, ASH IS STUBBORN, HAZEL MOANS. ROWAN GOSSIPS, CHESTNUT DRONES, ASH IS STUBBORN HAZEL MOANS. ROWARD GOSSIPS - FUCK YOU, MAZE - CHESTNUT DRONES, ASH IS STUBBORN, HAZEL MOANS." Penelope ran away from the sounds of her friends towards the darkness, nearly screaming the words. Though the methods were a little unconventional, avant garde even, they worked. Soon enough, the noises stopped, so Penelope stopped yelling, but she just kept running. It made her feel sort of better. What didn't make her feel better was running into a wall. Falling on her butt, she let out a bit of a yelp, which was embarrassing. To add insult to injury, the wall wasn't even a wall - it was a person. The wall groaned and for some reason she was sure she knew this particular wall, but couldn't quiet place it. Keith? No, he wasn't nearly big enough. That left one option-

"Eli!" Penelope couldn't have been happier to see him. She threw her arms around him, elated to finally be with someone else. And she'd hit the jackpot - it was Eli! Maybe this was the maze's reward for getting past her first trial. But... the maze wasn't known for its kindness. Penelope stiffened and withdrew from her friend... if that's who he even was. She narrowed her eyes at him, her whole demeanor changing as she scanned him, trying to find some inconsistency that would tell her he wasn't the Eli she loved. Her uninjured right hand hovered above her wand, ready to whip it out at a moment's notice. "How do I know your real? The maze does all kinds of crazy stuff... Prove to me you're real! What's something only you would know about me?"

Eli
-really not having a great time-

Eli had known Penelope for what felt like all his life. She'd been one of the first people he met at Hogwarts, even before Keith, and she remained one of his closest friends. Six long years of friendship, many nights sneaking into the kitchens and getting into all sorts of trouble together. She was the one who stuck up for him in the earlier years when Buttmond and the Coben girl bullied him relentlessly. Most of his happiest memories had Penelope in them in some way, and on their worst days they could count on each other for comfort.

So when she demanded proof it was really him, he opened his mouth confidently... and faltered. Oh no. It was like Potions class all over again. Elliot had never been very good at coming up with answers when put on the spot and that particularly traumatic experience in third year potions definitely did not help. 'Maybe the time she... No, that's a weird thing to remember. What about... well everyone knows that about her.'

"Well, er, I mean..." He stammered, trying to single out just one suitable fact about Penelope. The longer he struggled, the more he was really starting to question their friendship. "What I... ahem, you have definitely er..." The way her hand hovered over her wand was making him extremely nervous. In the end he gave up and blurted out, "How do I know you're not the fake one?" A brief silence followed this particularly brilliant statement and that's when he heard it. That skittering sound. This time it was much, much closer, like it was crawling into his ears. He yelped, flinching away and instinctively swatting at his shoulders. There was nothing there, but he couldn't shake the instincts screaming at him to get out of there. He stared at the inky gloom where he had just come from, unnerved.

"Come on," he grabbed hold of Pene's wrist and dragged her along as gently as possible before she had the chance to answer, coaxing her to follow him. "We need to go before they catch up to us," he said urgently. Eli didn't exactly know what 'they' were, but he wouldn't stick around to find out. He started running, making sure that she could keep up. As they ran, he couldn't help glancing over at her. He had been joking before, but what if he was right and this wasn't actually Penelope? She looked a bit different, was that just the light of their wands casting strange shadows? And those noises! They didn't fade away, in fact they only seemed to be getting louder no matter how far they ran and how many turns they took.

Suddenly, they hit a dead end, almost running straight into the wall that seemed to pop up right before their eyes. Eli turned around immediately, brandishing his wand, sure that the creatures following them were right on their heels. But there was nothing. The noises had stopped. There was only the blood rushing in his ears and his own frantic breathing. And Penelope of course. If it was really Penelope... He eyed her warily, holding his wand up to her to look at her closely.

Then he heard a low growl.

"Should've transfered... Durmstrang is better anyways... fuck this school... fuck this challenge... fuck me I'm lost."

The sight of the high and mighty Belladonna wandering around the forbidden forest muttering madly to herself would have been enough to deter any sane person who happened to pass by. The last few minutes of the challenge had been, for lack of a better word, absolute hell. Aivree had been blinded by the trap they'd set off at the start of the challenge, unfortunate in a task that depended on Aivree's flying skills. Which, if you're not an idiot, you'd know require the person flying to be able to see. Especially considering the fact that the only other person in the team barely knew how to fly herself. What followed was the most terrifying and needlesly dangerous five minutes in both of the girl's lives. Aivree flying as Bella clinged on to her like her life depended on it (which it did) and gave her instructions on where to fly. All while shot at in multiple directions, most likely by professors and faculty members but she wouldn't put it past the old hag to hire actual Aurors to bring down her own students.

And of course, it hadn't stopped there. Because why would it in a place that seemed to thrive off student's suffering? After landing and Bella emptying her stomach of the Halloween dinner that didn't agree with the unexpectedly harsh and rapid broom movements, the girls were faced with a decision. They had collected a small oval shaped gem, which had an inscription with instructions on how to follow and move on to the next task. Bella, being the only one who could read, was thus confronted with the truth she chose to hide from her partner: according to the gem, she could either destroy it and use the dust to cure Aivree's blindness (at the cost of them losing the challenge) or she could use the gem to open the door that would take them to victory. That was it! She was so close to the final price she could basically smell the trophy. The mere thought of the sad faces in all the Gryffindor students when they realized they'd been beaten by a Slytherin in a test of courage. Not to mention the endless bragging rights she was sure to abuse until her deathbed. It was so easy! So simple! Just a quick move and everything would be hers!

But in the end, she'd chosen Aivree. And they were thrown into different parts of the forest, left alone to find their way back to the school.

There were many rational reasons why a person would chose fixing someone else's blindness instead of an artificial and frankly insignificant school price - none of which made any sense to Bella. She'd done good deeds before, of course, but all of them had been influenced by her own greed and ambition. Usually justified by the idea doing nice things was the key to Penelope's heart. Not this time though. The Hufflepuff beauty hadn't even crossed her mind until after she'd made the choice. She'd just done it because... well, she'd wanted to do it. Aivree was annoying and a Gryffindor, but she hadn't done anything to her. And she hadn't judged her as she screamed during the challenge due to her overwhelming fear of heights. She hadn't made fun of her, or used her weaknesses against her when she was most vulnerable (something Bella was sure she would have done had the tables been turned). She'd helped Aivree out of her own volition, because deep down she knew it was the right thing to do. Maybe Seb was right; hanging out with Penelope and her pathetic, spineless Hufflepuff friends was making her soft.

But, regardless, she knew it was better not to dwell much on it. Her attitude had been nothing but a fluke, and certainly nothing that signified a change of heart that very well could put her future career at risk (after all, no one liked a selfless politician). As long as Aivree shut her trap, there was no reason why the others would find out and smear her reputation in Slytherin. All that mattered now, was making sure she could get back home in one piece. Something easier said than done, considering the school had decided it was perfectly fine to leave her in a place known for being so dangerous they were forbidden from entering. And that wasn't her only problem...

It had been bothering her for a while. The itching and scratching and stiff pain in her joints. All tell-tale signs of that time of the month where the moon shined the brightest and forced her to transform. Her lunar phase necklace had been left behind, as to avoid it clashing with her fabulous costume and the clouds and trees made looking at the moon difficult. With all the Halloween preparations, parties, and managing both her relationships with her own friends as well as Penelope, she'd completely forgotten to calculate for the moon - and was now left with nothing but speculation and paranoia to guide her way. It was a blessing to be in the woods, just in case it was a full moon. Or, at least, it would be. Were it not for the fact that she knew there were more people in the Forbidden Forest and its outskirts. Without having taken her potions, there wasn't much that would stop her from attacking others and exposing herself.

Cursing, she held out her empty hand and pointed her want at it with the other. She'd never tried this before, but she was running out of options and frankly, a spell accident sounded better than everything that would happen to her if her secret was exposed. Especially if it was because she hurt a fellow student. She'd only seen this spell being used in battle, but there was no reason why it couldn't work now, or so she hoped. Taking a deep breath, she cast a simple tope tying spell, aggressively tying herself to the trunk of a nearby tree - slamming against it with a heavy thud. It was tight, but not enough that she wasn't able to turn around and press her back to the tree. Would it hold? She doubted it. But tying herself to a tree was better than nothing.

"It's okay, it's okay. Just relax, take a deep breath." She continued, still muttering to herself now with a slight pant. Now the itching was really starting to bother her. Not good. "You're okay, you're okay. You've done this before. Nothing is going to happen. No one will notice. Just relax and - WHO'S THERE?"

It had been faint, but she'd heard it: footsteps. Most likely human, much to her dismay. Someone was close, and there was no way they would be able to escape if she did turn.

"I know you're there!" She screamed, taking out her wand and pointing it in the direction of the footsteps. "Whoever you are, get out of here! Now! Don't make me curse you!"

Phyrun's interest peaked immediately. He was willing to try anything within reason, especially if he wasn't required to use magic. Besides, doing anything that would actually harm him wouldn't benefit either of them. "Depends on the balance," he offered, the thrum of urgency egging on his curiosity and improperly displaying it as excitement. "What did you have in mind?"

Bludmond's words flittered through his head. He hoped most of it was rhetorical because a lot of it didn't stick around - not to say that he didn't send a flat, unamused look at the other for the comment about Ravenclaws; for some reason he heard that one clearly but with his attention on Petrovic, he forwent articulating a verbal response.

Were it that somehow the world around them stagnated for a bit (for reasons entirely unrelated to how his last post was done almost a year ago), yet all aside, Sebastian blinked once- and here he was transported back in the world of magic. For a split second, he had a very strange dream of being able to run very fast.

Now, where were they?

The two Ravenclaws were still bantering, and his lady companion have been stuck unmoving, it seems like. Tapping his foot against the earth underneath them, he scrunched up his nose and rolled his eyes. There was little effort done to keep up with his facade, for before he knew it, his patience has run thin.

"Dear Merlin!" he exclaimed. "Will you two stop squabbling already? If you do not have the courage, you could simply say so. It was not as though I expect anything from you, Dalca."

Why, he could easily volunteer himself. But who would have done such a foolish thing? Impressing Mila was not worth a broken bone or two. Instead, Sebastian reached out for his own wand, immediately aiming it at the shorter Ravenclaw male. Swish and flick-
