Doctor Matyas Farkas
Basics
Name: Matyas Farkas
Age: 33
Gender: Male
National Origin: Kingdom of Hungary, Austro-Hungarian Empire
Physical Description: Tall and lithe, with a very rectangular frame. He keeps himself in good shape and impeccably groomed.

Personal Details
Bio: The son of agrarian peasants from the Hortobagy Plain, Matyas knew a life of hard work and drudgery, one in which his magical aptitude was underused, if not completely overlooked. As a young man, he came of age in the early years of the magical renaissance, which thrust him out of the simple life he had known. On the one hand, military training was not all that different from the relentless physical demands of managing horses on the plains. On the other hand, the studying of magical theories and methods, the practice of politics, strategy, and intrigue all baffled him. Many sleepless nights were spent transforming the peasant into a mage but by the end of his career at the academy, he had risen to the top ten students of his class. Graduating with distinction he was invited to become a professor at the school and after another difficult course of study, earned his doctorate of magical studies.

Personality: Many years in the academy and military have turned the once carefree peasant farmer into a doctor who enjoys rigidity, rules, a tight schedule, and precision in all things. He is very knowledgable, but at times his experience can get in the way of accepting new ideas. He will be strict with his students, but only to the end that he hopes they succeed.

Political Beliefs: Farkas harbors a belief in an independent kingdom of Hungary with a parliamentary monarchy similar to the United Kingdom. Fantasies of the Hungarian Revolution dance in his head when he daydreams. His other beliefs fall in line with many scholars of the day, seeing the precarious rise of large businesses at the expense of their workers and wishing to counteract them.

Ambitions: To create an independent academy for magecraft in his native Hungary

Magic
Specialization: Water magic, from a gentle trickle to a powerful torrent, he can command water to move at will. As such he has been much sought after to aid in all sorts of projects, from experimental military tactics to civil engineering. Water must be present for him to control it, but in a land so dominated by lakes, rivers, and city fountains he rarely struggles to find a source.

Focus: Ceremonial sword of the Austro-Hungarian navy, steel with silver inlays.

Proficiency: Years of practice has sharpened his skill to a fine point, though his native skill was relatively low. His practice his highly focused on technique rather than improvisation.

Name
Jianna Hibasu

Age
18

Gender
Female (Duh)

National Origin
Japan

Physical Description
Everything except the headpiece and face paint. She also wears half-frame eye glasses cause her eyesight isn't the best. Instead of these robes, she wears more scholarly ones, a double layer, bottom layer is a white collared dress shirt (top button is undone showing a tiny bit of what cleavage she actually has and because she's too lazy as to actually button it all the up.) with a loose black tie, the outer layer is a green spring jacket, buttoned at the middle with the tie tucked in it. Her bottom half is semi-tight black dress jeans and thigh-high heel boots with the pant legs tucked, quite sloppily, into the boots.

Personal Details
Bio
Before coming to this academy, Jianna was a scholar, taught to understand highly complex 'grimoires' and how to use spells from them, since all grimoires contained spells in them. Because of this, she has an accelerated read rate and can usually finish a 500 page book in less than 2 days and still retain some information from it, albeit, this also depends on her willingness to wanna read that measure of book in the first place. She was often scolded by her teachers because of her inherit laziness, though no matter how bad the scolding was, nothing they ever did ever cured her laziness.

Before long, her parents banished her from the household, the whole 'dishonor the family' thing was still rather strong in her family. She wandered a bit before stumbling into a shop that sold books, more specifically, spell-books. Most of the books there were curse or alchemy books, but one in particular caught her attention. It had a soothing aura about it, she knew immediately, it was a healing spell book, probably the only one in existence since healing spells were often only cast into incantations or scrolls or something, but almost never into books. She had to have it and so she bought it, and she studies it everyday, learning every spell within it. It was the first book she ever invested herself into and she's rarely ever seen without it.

Personality
As a person, she's lazy and seemingly uncaring, though she can devote herself to something should she feel it important or not. She's often found snoring near a tree or leaned against a wall. When she's not sleeping or being lazy, she found with her face into her healing book. As a healer, she's quite caring and determined, most times she's lazy though, so should you ever find her in healer mode, count yourself lucky because it'll probably never happen again.

Political Beliefs
Jianna has never been one for politics, mainly because she's too lazy to care. If she were to care though, she'd most likely want dishonor abolished completely from Japan. Simple minded she is though, so she tries not to go into it.

Ambitions
She aspires to become a great support/healer mage, but she can never overcome her laziness and she knows this.

Magic
Specialization - Support/Healing (Scholar)
With her book, she can create magic nullifying barriers (these have a durability of course), restore energy and heal wounds, It also lets her do a couple offensive spells like fireball.
Additional spell;
Art of War - Jianna designates a 15 yard area to be a "War Zone", in this area, potency of all spells cast within are boosted a little. This includes spells used by enemies who are within the zone.

Focus - A big ol' book
Proficiency - Adept

Name: Asheton "Ashe" Advantage
Age: 16
Gender: Male
National Origin: United Kingdom
Physical Description: Snow white hair and ruby red eyes. Lithe, slender but decently muscular. Dresses well too.

Personal Details
Bio: Asheton Advantage was born as an aristocratic noble of the House Advantage. Magic is fairly recent in their family, his father being the first to utilize it. Ignotius Advantage was a perfect gentleman, a proud father and a capable magus. Using holy Ripple Magic, he had defeated the Vampiric Mage Count Benrhadt in a battle of epic proportions. A hero to all who knew him, Ignotius's reputation naturally troubled the son he eventually had. Ashe grew up in an environment where he overheard many gossip about how unlike his father he was. Where his father was noble, Ashe was roguish. While his father naturally inspired people, many didn't expect much of Ashe. Ignotius was a perfect gentleman, Ashe wasn't anything close to that. It got to the point where Ashe developed a serious inferiority complex. He started hiding his feelings beneath a false persona of a joking trickster. He would cause trouble for his parents and used his mental acuity to make others look dumb or dull in comparison. As a result, Ashe grew up with no one he could call a friend. Things changed when he acquired a small grimoire that was confiscated from an imprisoned "Black Wizard" who sought to kill his father. In it were a series of dark spells and incantations to summon demons known as "Innocent Devils". Having never been able to use Ripple Magic like his father, Ashe found himself naturally talented in summoning magic. The reason he was sent to the Academy was because one of his Innocent Devils brutally killed an intruder who managed to infiltrate the Advantage Manor. Fearing that such dark power would consume his son, Ashe was sent to a magic academy in a foreign land.
Personality: Ashe hides his inferiority complex behind a veil of a silly joker. He likes to poke and prod at people to get a reaction that he'll find amusing. Ashe finds joy in making people he dislikes feel dumb or dull. Thinking on his feet and occasionally two steps ahead is just how Ashe rolls sometimes. Though Ashe isn't without compassion. He'll comfort and stand up for those he feels have been unjustly trod upon. Naturally sympathetic to those crushed under the weight of others expectations, Ashe will do his utmost to make them laugh or offer advice. Since the acquisition of his Devil Forgemaster Grimoire, a darkness has begun to grow in Ashe. He is far less forgiving towards those who abuse their power, he'll break rules if he finds they get in the way of his justice. Most of all, he hungers for more of the power provided by the Dark Arts.
Political Beliefs: Ash doesn't care much for politics
Ambitions: To live up to the legacy left by his father

Magic
Specialization: Devil Forging: A kind of summoning magic where one uses the powers of darkness to create and command demonic spirits known as "Innocent Devils". These summoned creatures are completely loyal to their creator and fight to protect them. The power and skill of an Innocent Devil depend on the strength of the creator and its experience in battle. Innocent Devils come in a variety of forms, some small and suited for recon, a few others large and made to fight. There are six types of Innocent Devil, with each having its own strengths and weaknesses. The size and power of the creature are tied to the amount of magical energy required to maintain them.
Focus: A small grimoire called the "Tome of the Devil Forgemaster" held by chain and cord to his belt.
Proficiency: Adept

"We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep."

Name: Clémentine Maria D'Avignon
Age: 18
Gender: Female
National Origin: Belgium
Physical Description:
((5'7" | 130 lbs))
A tall, slender woman with porcelain complexion and rich, dark tresses. Hard to ignore by the pure, irrefutable elegance for someone her age - a ballet prodigy in her youth and daughter of respected wealth. Prideful of her hourglass figure, it's oft cinched in at the waist or corsetted; delicate cheekbones a born and bred deal of the aristocracy. Thick lashes frame equally mahogany eyes, filled with a depth of knowledge which surpasses Clémentine's initial appearance. Favouring the most recent European fashion, D'Avignon takes pride in how she looks and to see her with a hair out of place means something is afoot. When ill or decidedly terrible, it can entail days locked inside and refusal to meet with anyone but matrons and close friends. To those that know her, she takes after her mother, a great French beauty.

Personal Details
Bio:

Born to one of the rising nouveau-riche families, Clémentine had privilege and protection whereas other mages might've had none in the eyes of those wanting to exploit their skills. Her father, Klaas D'Avignon, had reaped his wealth from the Belgian occupation of the Congo - a big player in the rubber trade. To some, he became a beacon of civility and business in the colonies, others would argue men like him stained history. Her mother, on the other hand, was a French opera singer by the name of Marguerite Charpentier. Famed for voice and beauty on the stage, beguiling many men and choosing one to wed. Together Marguerite and Klaas had five children, four sons and one daughter. What came as a shock after their first year of marriage, was Marguerite's bloodline containing that of seers. Her visions were weak and often easy to counteract on a bad night with chamomile and mild sedatives. Clémentine was another problem in itself.

Clem was a natural diviniator, a strong one at that. During her youth, the visions caused insomnia and her communication with spirits would end in seizures. Thus, privately tutored until she was old enough to attend one of the academies which had been constructed. During her time with nannies and governesses, her grasp of language improved tenfold. Fluent in Flemish, French, German, English, and conversational in Russian. Besides her hobby of ballet, Clémentine has grown into her powers rather than out of them. Finding her own coping methods and bonding strongly with her mother as a result.

Known to suffer after using her powers for long periods of time - Clem was always a sickly child, the future and spirits being taxing both mentally and physically. Her self constructed medium to use magic is a ritual set of instruments, from tarot to the rings which decorate her fingers. She's versatile but prefers using bowls of water to scry rather than the crystal ball, due to the nauseous and dizzying feeling she gets. Psychics and those of likewise teachings have done their best to guide her into what makes her most comfortable tapping into the energy that lurks within every user of the arcane.

With her decidedly scholarly pursuits of magic, she is constantly reminded by her mother on the importance of marriage for the life of a spinster can't be saved by books. For now, these letters are promptly burnt and replied to with a change of conversation.

Personality:
A happy enough girl full of wit and charm, abiding by the rules and risking it all if she cares enough. Whilst her friendly nature is to be admired, Clémentine is capable of full retaliation if someone thinks it ground to spite her. Known in her circles for charity fundraisers and work for the poor, maternal is but a second nature. Dramatic and overbearing, her ways of showing affection are varied and equally sweet, if not with that constant flair of flamboyant theatrics. Having been raised amongst four boys, she knows when to be the centre of attention and when to back down, not afraid to get her hands dirty in amongst others. Nevertheless, she may or may not play up her symptoms for a little sympathy now and then. Her dancing has given her strength and flexibility to surprise those thinking her soft and not-worked, equally having respect for teachers after what her instructor put her through. Clem has been known as a bright student time and time again, if not for her difficulties that come with mathematics and chemistry. Literature and spiritualism are what she calls her areas of expertise. Overconfident, generous, and a force to be reckoned with would sum up the petty heiress easily. If it wasn't for the fact she would refuse to believe it.

Political Beliefs:
Due to her upbringing, Clémentine agrees with colonialism from what her father has fed her. The stories of new schools being built, medicines introduced, it has always seemed those who fight colonialism are simply against the grain. Involved in the ideologies of the suffragists and women's votes within Europe. Entertaining a philanthropist view and desiring a welfare state for the sake of children, she's progressive in nature.

Ambitions:
A trailblazer for female education in a magical institution

Magic
Specialization: Divination
- Ability to see the future in snippets, visions, or prophetic dreams; these are oft somewhat accurate but can be anywhere from crop harvest to political polls. With training, she may be able to focus and draw forward specific scenarios. At current, it's been quite the uphill battle to control such a gift.
- Communing with spirits, these being supernatural entities which have no name but give knowledge for something in return. Seers have never met so-called 'gods' unscathed, if not for the few in history that have been of note. Meeting with something so powerful either leaves you dead, insane or enlightened. You can imagine what the most common results are. Her offerings are often blood, pinpricks on the fingers.
- Astral projection is a byproduct of scrying and visiting such spirits.
- Basic potion recipes can be important for calming symptoms of divination or aiding in trips outside the body. Unfortunately, Clémentine hasn't got the hang of the concoctions yet.

Focus: Engraved ceremonial silver bowl of which is filled with water
Proficiency: Wildly varies depending on her mood, celestial bodies, clarity of the water, and whether or not she's been taking sedatives to sleep. As for knowledge, shes as capable as they come to be a high ranking student.

Leopold von Steinmetz

Age: 19
Gender: Male
National Origin: Prussia, Germany

Physical Description:
6’1 | 170lbs

Tall, handsome and serious, Leopold always wears that ever so familiar stern Prussian exterior which screams order and discipline. Though to others this might scream arrogance for nothing beats the natural superiority of a German noble. His walking style is more of a march than anything that could be considered a casual jaunt and the timing of his steps are rarely out of line, always clicking with a familiarity. As for his clothing, black is the preferred colour with gold trimmings if he is feeling particularly outlandish on any given day. These garments often come in the form of military uniform, or if on a civilian occasion something resembling a uniform without a sword attached to his side.

Personal Details

Bio:

Leopold descends from the prestigious and notable family von Steinmetz, Generals and leaders involved in Prussia's golden ages from Waterloo to the Franco-Prussian War. Except, when he tells you this he would not be saying the whole truth. Fore he is a bastard. Born out of wedlock from his father and a serving girl on his estate. By the time of his birth, his father was already old and struggling with a series of mental symptoms that the old so usually do. Surprisingly, however, he held firm that his son would be named a legitimate member of the household and be treated the equal of any of his sons. Of which he had four others. This pleased no one. A four way inheritance was hard to handle, a five way one would be cataclysmic. So whilst his earlier years were of a great education, this quickly changed when his father passed from the world one Sunday eve. The contents of the will were never revealed to the wider family, all that is known is that it was judged void as it was made in a state of great distress. Thus a previous will was presented, conveniently for the household it was written before the birth of Leopold. With no one to raise an objection on his behalf, the will was accepted and the estate split four ways. His mother was banished from the family lands, and if it were not for his name and blood, he no doubt would have been too. Yet he was allowed to stay, out of sight and out of mind.

Thus began a period of great struggle. He was treated like less than a servant, forced to do even the jobs they would not touch for double their wages. The days spent in the stables or out in the farm did have at least one side effect, he grew strong. His physique consistently improved and it was decided that the best way to get rid of him would be by sending him to a military academy. The army was a good place for unwanted children. Until he was caught manipulating light. A simple spell he often used for reading books. A simple spell that got him banished. Mages were for lesser nobility, upjumped peasantry, not a family as prestigious as theirs. They could not be associated with such disgusting practices. No doubt it had been his mother's blood that had polluted him. A sign of his bastardry. The old man's wife wrote a letter to the greater Prussian bureaucracy, and multiple letters to the Kaiser himself asking for the legitimisation of Leopold to be reversed. The circumstances too extreme to just let it stand. After months of asking, the powers that be finally relented, withdrawing from Leopold the privileges of his family name. He was a von Steinmetz no longer. With that complete, it took little effort to remove him with a single ticket to Vienna.

It had been arranged for him to be taken in by a distant branch of the family as soon as he arrived. They were military, but they were poor. In fact they had only taken him in for the offer of currency that was extended if they accepted. They did not even ask details. He chose to not provide them, keeping his magic a secret whilst working on it in private as he pursued training for the army. Hoping to one day return to Germany and make his case on the back of his own exploits. Whilst his education went well, as did his training, it was only a matter of time before his abilities were discovered. At this point a new opportunity arose. He could continue wasting away in a forgotten military school on the fringes of Austria. Or he could attend a prestigious academy for people like himself. In the end the answer was obvious. He had no qualms pledging for Franz-Joseph. After all, what had the Kaiser given him except familial exile?

Personality:
Constantly on edge and quick to take a challenge, Leopold is a man of great insecurity. Constantly in fear that his fortunes will take a turn for the worst and constantly in fear of betrayal. Thus he dedicates himself to the vision of his father and his ancestors, none stop study, none stop practise and none stop exhaustion. If he is to rise to what he could be, he believes he must work himself into the ground for it to be necessary. Whilst one might think Leopold is arrogant through this and his position, he is far from it. In fact, he shows almost no arrogance. He does not care if one is a farmer or a King. What difference does it make? His pursuits are not because he believes it is his right, but because he believes he has been wronged. He does not look up to his father because he was noble, but because he achieved something. And that is integral to his being. You must prove yourself in life to get ahead of the rest. History might remember nobles who were born with it all, but they also remember heroes who rose above them from lesser origins.

Political Beliefs:
He is not as political as you might think being so military minded. He has no great public opinions of the European game, even if he remains wary of it. Leopold does hold firm on meritocracy, however. He believes that those that are simply better should not be blocked by those that aren’t. For this reason he holds Republican sentiments within himself. The same beliefs extend to the use of magic.

Ambitions:
To prove himself worthy of respect and of equality.

Magic

Specialization:
Self Imbuement/Adaptation

  • Leopold can transform his own body to deal with different situations. His favourite of these skills is the ability to change the form of his skin. Whilst this does not change his outward appearance if he doesn’t wish it so, it does change his skins properties. He can become resistant to certain elements like fire, or even take the heft of a sword and in some cases a bullet. This provides a much greater durability to natural illnesses a diseases even when not active.

  • Another of these abilities are natural enhancements. An increase in speed for a defined duration, a largely enhanced reaction time, or greater strength for physical feats that require endurance or raw power. All of which can be extremely useful.

  • Coupled with this endurance he has slowly grown used to not sleeping. Whilst he does require it, he requires much less than the average person. An adaptation he acquired through his sleeplessness slogging over a book or hitting a dummy with a practise saber. This often allows him to greatly push the extent a human body can endure on things like food and drink. Though a complete lack of focus on these things can, and have had bad effects. He is still human.

Focus:
To put it simply, runes. His left arm is riddled with symbols and diagrams for the various adaptations he has discovered. Whilst he needn't do this, it helps him manage and understand what he can do. He has yet to come close to mastering the control he has over them or what he can be capable of. Often when he wants to switch between them he focuses on the symbol in question associated with the ability and visually extends said abilities across his body from this point. His arm is often glowing blue when not covered.

For magic outside of his specialisation, he uses a wand. Very cliche, but yet perfect. This ties into his ability to visually project what he wishes to do. Though he is, of course, capable without it.,

Proficiency:
He has arrived at the academy with more skill than perhaps the average applicant. Training for many years in an effort to master what he can do. Though, he is still a student, that much is abundantly clear.

Valeriano de Ferrada

Age: 21 - December 1888
Gender: Male
National Origin: Barcelona, Spain

Physical Description: Standing at 5’11”, and weighing in at just under 180lbs, Valeriano carries himself with a sense of pride and dignity. While his sense of style may leave something to be desired, he takes good care of himself, making sure to eat healthy, drink little and do exercise whenever he has the time. His fondness for walking for long distances during sunset has given him a lean body with some stamina He prefers to keep his face clean shaven, but will sometimes forgo this whenever the mood takes him. He almost always can be spotted appraising the people around him, a small frown forming across his brow, his well maintained teeth absentmindedly digging into his lower lip with fascination and attention..

Personal Details

Bio: Valeriano was born during the festivities of the Barcelona World’s Fair to a young, illiterate, and loving girl barely twenty and a slightly older, and more educated Deacon, who had married her the moment he found out she had been pregnant. Their rather passionate affair had ended with her announcing Valeriano’s imminent arrival, dashing his father’s hopes of becoming a priest. Nevertheless, his mother ensured that his home life was loving and supportive, his father teaching him reading and writing from an early age - making it clear that he was to become what his father could not. By the age of nine he was already being groomed for official schooling, his training in theology. While other children enjoyed the pastimes of Futbol and whatever else it was children did, Valeriano listened to old men talking about things he barely understood. Not because they were beyond his comprehension - but because, even then, very little seemed to make sense.

When he one day, on his way home from his tutors, wandered into the Els Quatre Gats - a cafe that had opened and was being frequented by all manner of curious thinkers, he found that what those old men where saying made far more sense. That night, when he brought it up over dinner, his father beat him to within an inch of his life. They never spoke of ‘free’ thinkers again. He did not stop going there. The next year, at the behest of those of the cafe he saw the first exhibition of Picasso. In a way, he came to live a dual life - where on one side he was listening to his father and exploring the Canon… while on the other side he spoke with others like himself of art, music, poetry, philosophy - attending lectures of Francisco Giner de las Rios, exploring his ideas of the Sociology of Law at the Institución Libre de Enseñanza.

At the age of eighteen, Valeriano fled his home, packing his things, sleeping on the couches of friends, poets, artists, until he reached Milan - seeing the great Maria Gay perform Carmen in La Scala - the tickets arranged by a fellow music affectionado. The man, as it turned out, was also a sorcerer. While staying with him for a few months, the man came to teach Valeriano the basics, nurturing an inquisitive and bright mind with books of history, politics, poetry, art and science. Together the two traveled extensively, seeing the wonders of the approaching new world. Under his tutelage, the man insisted Valeriano develop his own ideas. His own style of magic. With his own unique interpretations. And so he did. Pushing his skills to the upper limits. When he could push no further, the man shipped him off to Imperial Magecraft Academy- having him swear that he would never let another think for him, and that he would never leave the world, without first making it greater than it was.

Personality: Valeriano is an intensely creative, curious and rebellious young man. His need to question authority and power has been bred into him by a hate for established orders and a youth surrounded by Anarchists and ‘artists’. His need to prove himself to no-one else but himself has been a driving force for years, as he feels that he has freed himself from the need of validation when he escaped the bonds of his family. In a way then, he is also quite capable of lying to himself, as he will often insist with stubborn vigor that he is without the need of others, without the need of care or without the need of control. He would rather suffer alone than admit that he is not entirely self sufficient. This contrasts heavily with his lack of funds and assets. He tries to counter this by working long and hard to repay with work, with attention or with support those that give him favors. In the back of his mind he does know however that these favors are often not because of anything more than kindness and friendship. This often causes him to become irritated, as he cannot just accept gifts or ‘charity’ - often irritating others who see his insistence on repaying them as an insult to the sentiment. Sometimes he comes to resent the work he does, as he rarely knows when to quit, often working himself into exhaustion, often forcing him to rely on others ‘needlessly’. But he rarely can control his drive or focus when it comes to studying, writing or generally anything to do with his interests.

Political Beliefs: Valeriano despises actual politics. Often he finds it to be slow, monotonous and outdated. Some of his greatest irritations come from seeing the petty play for power on the stage of governance. Kings. Lords. Nobles. Priests. Popes. The lot of them are so blind to their own bullshit that he can’t stand talking with them. The only times he really considers talking politics is in a theoretical framework with his peers - finding the ideas there to be intoxicatingly revolutionary and frustratingly impossible. Privately he has not been able to develop a satisfactory replacement for the powers that be, or a realistic way to go about replacing them. Sometimes he wishes he had the candor of his colleagues who seek to just abolish everything and start anew. He resists this however, as he believes that should that ever occur, traditional means of power will inevitably find its way back, and find greater legitimacy in its resurgence.

Ambitions: Valeriano wishes to expose the Church and it’s miracles for what it is - just another power hungry system that came to believe its own lies.

Magic

Specialization: Theurgy - the close study of celestial magic and its properties with the intent of exposing its fundamental mechanics as none other than all other forms of magic - proving that at its core all magic is bound by the same principles and mechanics.

  • Minor Miracles - A series of abilities that he developed when he was younger. These include things like making candles light up, making doors and windows open without touching them, making his voice louder than normal, turning a cup of water into wine, making his eyes flare or the sound of voices fill the air. He has also managed to walk on water once with this. Most all of these come from studying theology and miracles, and seeks to imitate the ‘kind of thing that would fool a peasant’.
  • Greater Miracles - These are the things that really take the air out of his lungs. Bigger magics that he can cast maybe once per day. Among them are things like restoring sight, hearing, smell, taste or touch, removing ‘dangerous’ diseases like the Flu or tuberculosis. He can heal people of near fatal wounds and repair what would seem like irreparable damage. He can not bring people back from the dead.
  • Banishment - He can banish evil spirits and demons from spaces, and cleanse them of bad energy. This ritual takes a few hours to do and can be near-lethal to someone being exorcised.
  • Compel - He can with his voice command weaker willed persons to do his bidding. People trained against mental control or trained in clerical magic would be immune to this.
Focus: He, ironically, uses a cross that he got from his father which hangs around his neck. Over the years he has bound it with vast amounts of magic which turned it into a focus. It helps him when he needs to use magic on the suspicious masses, as he often holds it up when ‘praying’ - or chanting - often duping them into thinking he is a cleric.

Proficiency: Brilliant magical theorist, but not very accomplished with casting - his magic has a lot of potential, but most of the time he can maybe cast one big spell a day.

Name: Franz Kastner

Age: 17 (13th of March 1892)

Gender: Male

National Origin: Franzensbad, Eger, Lands of the Crown of Bohemia, Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Physical Description: A rather tall man with 1.83cm, Franz has the usual stern feautres on his face which contrasts sharply with the grin that is plastered on his face when talking. He is often seen with dark rims under his eyes and an exhausted look on his face

Personal Details

Bio: Franz was born as the second child and first son of a lower-middle-class German Bohemian family in the small town of Franzensbad, a town of Austria that was stuck between the borders of Bavaria and Saxony.

Franz was always deemed a child with vivid imagination but no one would have thought that this was due to his magical potential, even with the news about the ‘Magical Revolution’ making their way to the countryside such stuff were believed to be fairy tales in the small town of Franzensbad.

The family would eventually move to the regional capital of Eger due to his father’s appointment. It was was a small blessing for the young Kastner, Eger offered more opportunities and less prejudice for him A difficult part of his childhood started following the Language Decree with riots and unrest rising in Bohemia, the time period would play a large part in his personal beliefs.

It was his Highschool Teacher. Herr Matsch, who would encourage him to use the ‘Potential’ for the benefit of the people and the state, suggesting he apply to the Academy in Wien. However, Franz was not too keen on applying to the Academy that basically embodied everything he found critical within the empire, so he applied to the Academy in Berlin but was rejected, not being able to qualify for the demands of the German High Command. Distraught with the news, Franz had only one chance now.

He would apply to the Academy in Wien which certainly had lower standards than it’s counterpart in Berlin, so he boarded the train to Wien from Prague. Determined to rise up in the ranks of the Austrian Army, both to achieve his political goals and to help his family financially.

Personality: There are two traits that can describe Franz; Narrow minded and as stubborn as a bull, He isn’t a person open to change. with a temper that has a short fuse especially when it comes to people annoying him. Alas he can’t act on it as Franz avoids conflict as much as possible, as he has a deep fear of authority and thus the punishment as well as a desire to seek approval from people. This is the source of his passive aggressive demenour However despite his craven nature he also has a streak of fierce loyalty, at least to people he considers his friends. As and idealist he is also a staunch optimist when it comes to anything he believes in

Political Beliefs: Franz harbours a deep resentment against the Habsburg monarchy and his name-sake Kaiser Franz Joseph because of their concessions to the non-German subjects of the empire leading to the fears of losing the Empire’s German character and of course the privileges granted to them.

A firm believer of Unification with Germany. He holds the belief that the Habsburgs reluctance to unite the German states is the reason why the Austrian Empire has been losing wars and ground since 1848 and giving the upper-hand to the Prussians.

Ambitions: To rise up in the Ranks of the Austrian Army to achieve his political goals.

Magic

Specialization: Illusion: altering one’s perception of reality with false images, sounds, senses… A magic only limited by one’s imagination. One could use it to entertain people, such as create fireworks in the sky or turn the sky red and the world to a hellish landscape.

Focus: A fountain pen, much shorter and easier to carry than a wand yet can function as one.

Proficiency: Adept, albeit the power and magnitude of his magic depends on his mood and concentration. Illusions require a great amount of effort to maintain which tends to exhaust Franz both mentally and physically when he uses his magic for extended periods of time.
