Fantasy In Another World With a Bunch of Assholes [IC]

Erika Rosenfeld
WEIRD MAGIC ACADEMY

Things were getting worse. Real worse. After Erika unintentionally, accidentally blasted the eastern wall of the room into bits, some of the strangers in the group dipped out. There was this man that screamed some guy's name, then immediately left the room. Following his exit was the half-horse girl and the other man. Seeks like everyone else is dipping out, except for the lass, the lad, and the elven woman.

The cloaked figures, which seems to be the ones who 'summoned' them here were either dying, near death, or just absolutely knocked out.

Clearly, this is not the best place to be in. Especially if you're the instigator of this absolute mess. So, Erika did the wisest thing she could do.

She dipped out as well.

But what she didn't know was that the room was at a very high level, and the moment she lept out, she slipped from a debris caused by the blast and led her to fall.

As she descended, instinct took over her.

A cascade of explosions followed the trail of her fall, and most importantly, the area where she would end up. The force of these blasts were not enough to soften her landing, causing her to get grazed and roll down as she came to contact with the hard floor. A tough landing, but better than getting flattened by the impact.

Not noticing the wreckage she has left behind, she ran off to whatever her instinct led her to, hoping to get as far as she can before anyone notices her suspicious presence.

Heikin would just stare blankly into the space behind the dwarf, which was really obvious because of the height disparity. I mean this shit really was going to obvious wasn't it, it's either going to be 10 or 100, this it just happened to be the former. Hell he was half expecting to start talking about the premium currency boings, that you can spend to get special boingific skins and a bigger selection of soft mattresses.

Deciding to change his view on things, by literally turning his head from the wall he'd see a guy who was armed with a knife. Really he was going to do a stick up with a knife in the era of surveillance? Oh wait they were in a fantasy world. Well there should be something like fantasy surveillance cameras. Though he should probably do something about so as he turned around to face the would be robber he'd notice in the reflection of the grandfather clock a guy with a similar looking mask.

Oh shit there were two of them? Ran through Hei's mind. Not exactly sure what he should do he decided to deal with the closest one. Utilizing a common move from the popular fighting game Superb Slam Sibling CQC he'd use his ability to make himself faster and put his arms around the would be robbers waist, then he'd attempt to suplex him into the ground behind him.

Robert blinked, only now noticing that everyone else scattered like spiders while he was figuring out and showing off his power. "Em, guys?" he asked, scratching his head. "Weren't we supposed to wait for the summoners to contact the Emperor or something like that... eh, who cares? Geronimo!"

Robert leaped head-first out of the hole in the wall, into the clouds of smoke left behind by some mysterious explosions.

###

And landed in a rosebush outside, just as the guard questioning Eva was turning around. After digging himself out of the plant, he faced Eva and Erika, then asked, "Hey, guys, what are you doing? The summoning guy told us to wait!"

###

The masked assassin was suplexed into the ground with spine-crushing force. There was a loud snap, followed by his limbs going loose like a ragdoll with no animating force.

The dwarf's jaw fell lower than the Empire's standards for summoned heroes. "H-holy Moradin!" he yelled in alarm. "You just killed that man! Y-you took him and you snapped his neck over me floor! Are ye daft?! I'm calling the guards!"

Meanwhile, the last assassin snuck up behind the dwarf, grabbed his head, and ran his dagger at where the dwarf's neck should have been. Fortunately, the dwarf's thick beard protected him. The shopkeeper kicked the assassin in the nuts then ran inside the store screaming.

The two assassins outside turned to Eva and gazed at her. One of them put his hand close to where his ear was under the mask and whispered something.

A few seconds passed. The masked man looked at his partner - a bowman - and nodded.

The bowman stepped away, and so did the other masked man, letting her enter through the door. The moment Eva actually turned her back to them, the man without the bow would take out a bludgeon and hit her in the back of the head.

The ecstatic feeling of managing to slam down someone like in a video game was quite exhilarating for the salary man. However his smiling expression would sudden change to confusion when he heard a crack as he smacked the guy upon the ground. Frowning he would check him, he was probably just knocked out, right? Yeah probably. He thinks to himself as he hopes he didn't kill two people today.

The salary man wouldn't have much time to celebrate however as there were more shady people to deal with, 3 that could he see at least. He really needed some weapon to defend himself, so that what he prayed to RNGesus as he looted the dead guy's body.

"Bingo."

He'd say as he quickly managed to pull out a throwing knife and an actual knife, deciding to throw the throwing knife at the guy behind the counter with his x3 speed he would grab the other one with both hands.

However as he rushed his way over he wondered what would be like a non-lethal way to kill someone, shit he didn't have enough time to he was already there. So obviously the first place he goes to incapacitate the would be assassin was the throat.

The cloaked man didn't wait and let Hei loot his buddy's corpse as he pleased. He jumped over the countertop, long dagger in hand. Before he could make his way to the hero, however, a small throwing knife sunk into his shoulder with a wet slurp.

The cloaked person let out a sound that was like a hybrid of a grunt, hiss, and a neigh. Or maybe those three sounds all at once.

He pulled the knife out, dropping it to the ground. The blood that stained it was black like ink, with not even a hint of reddening at the edges. He either had filthy blood, or there was something else at play.

Either way, before he could gather himself properly, Hei was already moving. The cloaked man tried to leap back, but stumbled into the countertop, which led him to slip back onto it. As a result, Hei missed his stab for the throat, and instead stabbed the assassin in the nether regions.

Needless to say, the assassin let out a long, girlish shriek, his body convulsing in violent pain. Too much pain to do anything else than continue shrieking, really.

[/div][/div] [div class=Content] There was little time to be amazed by her new found power. Most of the "heroes" had already left and decided that it was a better idea to wander around in an area that they had never seen or know anything about. Brilliant. Thankfully for the summoners, Scarlet was in no position to jump out the of a building.

Scarlet looked over to the Head summoner, Philabert, who looked like he was about to start praying to his gods in the hope they don't smite him for his deeds. Scarlet let out a deep breath. She wasn't happy with where she was, and as soon as this was over she wanted them to take her home, but she wasn't going to leave him like this, that wasn't who she was.

Despite her still sore body, she stood up and walked over to Philabert, who was on the floor still in a panic from everyone leaving. She lowered her hand to him to help him stand up. "We have to get them back right? I have an idea on how to find them, but what happened to contacting the emperor?"

Again she raised her hand and found a connection. This time it was a small but fast bird. Since her power hurt her she was trying to avoid any major pain. Just like last time black energy poured out from her arm ripping through her flesh. To some extent, she could spread it out to avoid the damage being in a specific spot. Despite this, she felt a snap in her arm followed by a massive amount of pain.

Scarlet cried out as the bird's shadow formed. She couldn't tell if her arm had broken or not, either way, there were cuts down her arm where she was bleeding. "If I tell you where they are can you do something about it?" She said to the summoner hoping the answer was yes.

She looked to the bird. "Find them, and come back when you see anyone." The bird flew off to look for anyone she had seen in the room before. Then she looked back to the summoner and said "I could use something to help with my arm. If nothing else something to cover it." She said trying to ignore the pain.

Finally she realized the elf girl, Matty, was the only other person left in the room. "I don't think we will get anywhere without them if you think you can help it would be appreciated." She said to Matty before turning her attention back to the summoner. Philabert stared at her, tears in his eyes and snot in his nose. "The rest of our men are locked in the comms room! That stupid fool broke the door..." he exclaimed, wiping his face with his sleeve.

He stood up, reached into his robe, then gave her a red vial with a small oak cork. "This is a health potion. It's general use. Heals wounds and replenishes lost blood, so with your ability, you will probably find it useful. I'd suggest some item that gets rid of pain and heals you automatically, though."

After that, he excused himself and began to set up a summoning ritual for something called a 'Lesser Fire Elemental,' which he intended to use to force the comms room door open.

Many things happen nearly at once. All of them inexplicable.

First, one of the other 'heroes' sets her hand on fire without damaging herself. Which is impossible. Then she blows a hole in the wall, sets the summoners on fire and everyone in the group decides to abandon the summoning chamber, despite:
1. No knowledge of where they were beyond three sentences of exposition.
2. No knowledge of how they got here.
3. No knowledge of how to get back home.
4. No regard for the lives of the summoners who would evidently be executed due to their departure.
5. No actual frame of reference of the political structure of this environment, no risk assessment, no reconnaissance of any kind.
6. No imperative. What were their orders? What were they supposed to do?

In a matter of seconds, Matty decides all of her 'companions' are insane.

At least the female manifesting some kind of shadow butterfly has the good sense to stay put. The fact that her shadow manifestations appear to harm her is gravely concerning, though. The sight of bloody cuts opening on the girl's skin causes an unnerving sensation that adds to the now-lengthy list of novel, new sensations she's experienced in the last ten minutes. Matty doesn't have medical programming but she does have the memory of observing field medics dealing with wounds.

She looks down at the monkly robes that came with this Elven form and she promptly rips a strip of it off before noticing the Head Summoner has already come up with a solution for the girl's injuries.

There's nothing else to do for the moment. The bleeding girl is attempting to establish communications with their unit. The head summoner is attempting to reach the duly appointed authority of this land. With this form, she lacks the firepower needed to level that door, nor does she have the means to drop three stories to the ground, judging by the distance between the hole and the landscape below.

There is nothing Matty can think of to do but wait. And so she waits.

Eva Divver
As the man stood aside to let her past as requested, she thought back to her time of falling in which she'd somehow taken the business card that had clearly been given to one of those summoners, and wondered if she had some strange ability to take things from others now. As far-fetched an assumption that it was, considering the rest of what had happened, it wasn't exactly impossible.

What better to try out her skill in a safe environment such as this? If it worked, who knows, maybe she took some coins or something, and if it didn't, there was no harm done.

As she slowly shuffled past the man, she held her hand out towards them and thought really hard about using the same thing she had done earlier, and to her surprise, it was not something very light at all that he had been carrying.

She looked down at her hand and was mildly shocked to see that she was now holding a rod of sheer metal, and almost instantly after such a revelation, she received a rather vicious slap to the head!

"HEY!" she bellowed, kicking out in the most appropriate way she could with her hind legs, hoping to knock him back, but not particularly aiming it considering she was rather surprised at the sudden attack.

Meanwhile in front of her, there appeared another masked man screaming in agony at what she could only make assumptions to what unrivaled pain was caused to him by her friend the business man and one of the other men that had been outside currently seemed... Quite dead, from what she could tell. The dwarf shop-keep also appeared to have disappeared in the chaos.

All-in-all, she seemed to have missed a whole lot of what had happened in the split second she had turned her headto kick the idiot that had planned on hitting her with a bat.

Speaking of the bat, she wasn't exactly sure of what to do with it, so simply dropped it considering it might be a bit suspicious if she was wandering about with a weapon considering she didn't have the bulky cloaks that her assailants had.

"I.. Wan tu leaf again." She mumbled to hei, awkwardly moving backwards out the door with great difficulty, unable to turn around, and looking back at the smoking tower they had come from, with the faint faces of two fellow summoned folk still in there, a pleasant view that helped her avoid the sight of the several corpses littered around the shop.

She gave them as large a wave as she could in an attempt to get them to jump down and get over to them.

[/div][/div] [div class=Content] Scarlet gazed at the health potion. There was nothing in her world would that would instantly health when drinking it, but then again magic didn't exist either. she then lifted the health potion to her mouth and drank it. She quickly noticed the scars slowly disappearing and the blood loss slowing down. The pain in her arm was still there but dimmed significantly. 'This will have to do.' She thought.

Next she walked over to inspect the door. It was covered in ice and there was no way of opening it. However, the wall was thin and there were gaps around the door where sound could get through, moreover, no one in the comms room would have seen what happened in the summoning room. If all he did was freeze the door then everyone in there should be fine right? She really hoped she was right about this.

Walking over to the head summoner, who was making his fire golem, she set her and on his shoulder to pause him. She raised the pitch of her voice to sound desperate. "IS ANYONE OK IN THERE?!" she screamed. "This is the hero Scarlet. You have to continue contacting the emperor! Tell him we were attacked by terror- uhh enemies of the Empire. They blew a hole in the wall and froze the door so we couldn't talk to you. The rest of the heroes scattered away for their lives, and I haven't seen the enemies since. But all the heroes lives could be in grave danger if he doesn't do anything."

Yes it was a big risk. Scarlet figured an empire has to have enemies right? And there have to be people that don't like the heroes right? As long as the empire thinks that someone else did the damage than its fine. Most of the people in the room are dead or knocked out so they won't remember or won't be willing to test the heroes authority. And if the empire sends people to help, then hopefully they will bring the rest of the heroes back together. That was her logic anyway.

Still she wasn't sure if they heard her, or if they're in any condition to send a message, or if the emperor could do anything. She looked back to the head summoner, "I hope you'll go along with this story. Judging by your reaction I think it's better if people think someone else caused the damage" She said quietly so that only Philabert could hear her.

After a moment the bird returned and landed on her hand. She could feel the things that it saw. "Two of them are just outside. The blonde kid, Robert and the girl who- with the fire ability. And the Cervitaur is also close by." She said to both Philabert and Matty. She walked over to the hole in the wall, the Cervitaur was waving to her. She gave her a small wave back and then turned around. She looked back to the bird. "Go and make sure she's ok, and report if you find anyone else." Then it flew off heading to Eva.

Despite her condition she still believes the best thing for her to do is help bring everyone back. "I'm going to go outside and convince them to come back, are you coming or staying Matty?" She said. So many new variables. So many new experiences. Matty's still growing used to her new physiology. To actually having physiology. She'd had numerous interactions with humans in her several years of operational lifetime but none like this, none that engaged her directly. Her creators had always been careful about controlling the social stimuli she received. Perhaps it was a method to delay MATAI drawing the conclusion that all humans were made. Because even Scarlet behaves in ways she can't parse.

Why tell the communication team on the other side of that door to lie? Well, technically, they wouldn't be lying in the sense of consciously reporting false information. They didn't know any better. Scarlet did, though. Her words to the Head Summoner confirmed it.

Matty considers the situation further and draws the conclusion that perhaps Scarlet has more accurate tactical data than she does. Which means perhaps some of the people she arrived with actually are enemies of this empire. It would do well to be prepared for hostilities.

A careful inspection of the room turns up several knives evidently designed for utilitarian purposes rather than combat. Still, they're better than nothing. Matty finishes her inspection at a door, which she opens to reveal a stairwell. With a thought, she's able to produce a memory of seeing the clearing outside of the hole, three stories down, and is able to conclude that this stairwell likely leads (eventually) to the ground.

When Scarlet questions her, the red-headed Elven Monk swivels her neck to face the other girl. "I will go with you," Matty says. "I believe we can reach the ground safely this way."

The screaming of the stabbed, cloaked man came to a stop, transitioning into crooning as he slid further back and down to the other side of the counter.

Once he was on the ground, he rolled sideways, picked up his dagger, then bolted out of there through the back entrance. A second later, a series of dwarven and demonic cries (respectively) of surprise came from the inside, followed by a loud thud, several footsteps, a wet slurping noise, another (much more primal) scream, and the sound of someone running away.

###

The cloaked bowman stepped back when Eva knocked out his partner with a snapping motion of her hooves. People moving by on the street looked and stared for a few seconds, then most of them shrugged and moved on.

Without further ado, the other assassin stepped back, hesitated, then ran away.

Hei's expression remained emotionless as he saw saw the poor demon slide off the knife and then run away with only his tail now between his feet, losing his manhood literally. Staring at the dagger with disgust as he was pretty sure it had some white spots on it he would carefully place it on the counter. Clapping his hands together he would ask of whatever god for forgiveness for what he did to his fellow man.

Leaving the knife on the counter he would take the coat off the demon he incapacitated by suplex, feeling some other things in his pockets that he didn't find before. Well it's not like he had time to deal with that now.

Walking casually to the guy Eva knocked out he would loot him quickly using his increased speed to find an assortment of items. The head summoner probably already choked on the candy and died so he needed to be fast.

  • shortsword,
  • throwing dagger,
  • a book with a hole inside the pages and inside that is a pouch, and the pouch contains 12gp, 2gp and 6sp
  • a wand that liquefies solid matter without increasing its temperature

Finding the pouch and throwing it in his hands he would feel it's heft. Putting it back in the book he would leave both the book and the wand on the counter, for the cervitaur to take if she so wished. Finally he would strap the shortsword to his waist as he put the car seat around his back once more and walked into the back to see what happened to the dwarf, maybe he would still be interested in the product.

"No shit Sherlock," Lucas retorted with incredibly poor attitude. "Where the fuck am I though? Last thing I remember was blacking out in a Philadelphia bar..." Lucas eyed the suspicious strangers and their hands. He huffed a little and chugged his drink. He stood up and began attempting to put some distance between himself and the bar. To his utter luck, the burly half-orc cook walked out and gave a loud shout for Lucas to halt. "Fuck...I forgot to pay."

Lucas halfhazardly pulled out his wallet and handed his credit card to the cook who looked at it inquisitively. "What's this?"

Lucas, not yet realizing this giant deformed...thing wasn't half human sighed and said,
"It's a credit card dumbass. If you don't take them I have cash right here." Lucas handed two hundred dollar bills to the cook who stared at them and crumbled them up.

"You pay with money, not weird cards or paper. If you're not going to pay, I'll have to involve the guards or have you work for free until you do pay it off," the cook said with great impatience grabbing Lucas's arm. He was clearly not having any of this strange man's crap.

Lucas snickered and said, "Oh I'm sorry you're business is too poor to afford a credit card machine. I can also see why an ugly turd like you belongs in the kitchen. Bad for business, right?"

Fuming, the cook was about ready to crush the man's arm. If anyone dared attempt to pull the cook away, it looked as though the burly half-orc was about to go into a raged state.

"Operation is interrupted. Retreating," one of the masked men said. All at once, the masked men in the tavern - seemingly unnoticed by the patrons - began to leave through the back exit, cloaks fluttering behind them like a dark procession of wraiths.

Mere seconds after the last of them left, a squadron of five guards broke down the tavern door. Each one wore what could only be described as regal, heavy armor. Black, with a subtle lining of curved gold, meant for decoration. They wore capes, red on the inside and black on the outside, stiff and short; barely going below groin-level. Most of them had sturdy belts, lined with pouches and handcuffs, and most of them also had steel cudgels that crackled with electricity. Their black-gold helmets had a set of vertical visors and red tails going out of the back.

They were followed in by ten more guards, these ones seeming more ordinary, wearing only half-plate with helmets that left their faces uncovered. Their armaments were limited to spears and in some cases, shields. And behind those, one last guard in black armor entered, hands behind his back in a regal posture.

Some of the patrons seemed surprised or panicked, but none of them began to run. Some more gasped when that last armored figure entered.

The 'elite' guard with hands behind his back nodded towards Lucas and the cook. "Seize them."

Four of the other elites beelined towards Lucas and the half-orc. One of them forcefully pushed the half-orc away, clearly not giving much care to his feelings about the matter. "Stay down!" he ordered with a dignified yell, hand on his cudgel.

The other three divided their tasks; two forced Lucas' arms behind his back, and the third slipped a pair of steel manacles on his wrists with swift, practiced ease. Then he gripped his shoulder and wrists and forcibly yanked him towards the exit.

"This way, citizen," he said with robotic harshness. "You are being detained for questioning. You will be let go once you've answered all questions. Show cooperation and avoid making things difficult and you'll be out quick. Anything you say may be used against you in the court of law; you have the right to remain silent."

The guard who originally ordered them to 'seize' Lucas stood over the half-orc cook in a patronizing and commanding pose, hands behind his back and leaned forward with amusement.

Lucas could only overhear the beginning of what sounded like a villainous monologue: "Well, well, well. What do we have here... a half-orc, staining society, in my, beautiful capital city?"

###

Before Hei could walk back inside the store...

"Hold it right there!" a hoarse voice yelled.

Six guards in black-gold armor walked down the street in a v-formation, heading towards Eva and Hei. The three towards the front of the formation had cudgels out, holding them upright to their sides. The weapons crackled with electricity.

They moved to surround them in a sort of triangle, the other three guards standing in the holes of the formation. Two of them took out handcuffs and poised themselves to move at a moment's notice.

The last one - hands behind his back - ordered, "Face the wall that I'm looking at and submit yourselves to being detained or accept potentially lethal force. You have five seconds to comply, after which I cannot guarantee your condition. Five... four..."

###

Four guards in black armor strode up to Robert and Erika. "Hold it," one of them said.

Another, with hands behind his back in a regal posture, commanded, "Identify yourselves in the name of the Empire. You will comply if you know what's good for you."

Robert faced the guard captain(?) with unbridled excitement. He assumed a semi-heroic pose and gestured at himself with his thumb. "Robert Pelham! But you can call me 'the Fire Hose,' because where I am, there's bound to be fire!" His teeth almost twinkled with reflected light as he grinned stupidly.

"Detain the boy," the captain commanded without regard. "He may be responsible for the hole in the wall. Assume pyrokinetic abilities with a penchant for arson."

Two of his minions replied in the affirmative, striding up to Robert before he could react, forcing him to the ground and handcuffing him before he could protest. Once he did, it sounded like a baby whining: "Hey! You can't do that! I'm a hero! A hero! I'm not some dumb arsonist! That's unfair!" He kept yelling as they dragged him away.

"And you?" the guard captain asked, looking at Erika with what one could assume was a raised eyebrow underneath his helmet.

Eva chuckled with relief at her survival of that little trial of assassins attacking her, albeit her head still hurt a little from where she'd been hit, as indicated by her sneaking one of those beautifully-tanned hands of her up through her hair to rub it. "Uh.. Good job" she smiled at Hei before noticing the loud sound of metal on metal as a large group of bulky and menacing knights ran around them.

Most certainly frightening, but she supposed they had just beaten up a bunch of demons. "I-it wos selvu-defanse!" she called out, complying as swiftly as she could and retreating to the wall in a rather awkward manner as she raised her hands instinctively to indicate that she meant no harm.

Unsure of whether to settle with her hind-quarters against the wall as well as her upper-half, she stuck out perpendicular to the store wall and held her breath as the countdown ran on.

They didn't seem like particularly nice people, given that the first point they brought up with fatal force in the act of resistance, which caused young Eva to ponder whether or not resistance was common when these people were around, or if they were just trying to be threatening. She settled on both as her mind flickered from thought to though as she considered what they might do to her in this foreign world in the stretch of time that was supposedly five seconds, but stretched on and on as the agonizing procedure of time seemed to slow down to cause as much discomfort as possible.

"Gedet'ye dun kadala ni.." the cervitaur mumbled, slipping into her new mother tongue in her anxiety.

Before Hei could leave into the back a group of guards would approach them, looking strangely like riot control but there was no riot though? Maybe they were here to arrest the assailants, sure both of them were unconscious but they probably still needed to be careful. You know for a medieval country they were surprisingly advanced with their way of life, maybe he could explain why he attempted to murder the head summoner by way of throat candy suffocation.

Or that was the thought going through his head until he heard them call out to them. Was he going to be given the death penalty for killing a person and attempting to take the life of a person with a lot of authority? Sure the guy he murdered didn't attack him or even speak to him, but he looked evil and that's all that mattered... wait did he just kill a bystandander? If you thought about it he was way too easy to kill.

Quickly shooting a glance to to the back door he could probably still escape if he ran now, but that'd leave the deer girl all by herself who was the only one awake at the crime scene, and it was really nice to shove all the blame on one person.

Letting out a heavy sigh he'd probably curse himself at a latter point, grabbing the book, the wand and yes, even the sperm knife he would hide inside of the coat hoping that they wouldn't pat him down and then he would comply and go agaisnt the wall.

"The miss said it was self defence." Turning his head towards Eva he'd then say; "Sorry I'm not trying to be patronising but you are rather difficult to understand."

This. This right here is exactly what she didn't want to face - an encounter with the authority. She's already had her fill with those kinds of trouble back in where she came from, and yet here she was, in this new world, faced with a similar predicament. Granted, she didn't know if these authorities were of the same sort as of the ones back in her home world, but can never be sure.

She watched as the young lad introduce himself and immediately get restrained by these bulky, armored people. It seems that they are looking for the one responsible with this whole chaotic scene, which the young lad, Robert, is apparently the first suspect due to his introduction. Now, of course, while Erika wouldn't really care for anyone that would get affected by her actions, she somehow felt a little bad, seeing as how Robert might just get extremely harsh punishments for her actions.

For some incomprehensible reason, she decided to come clean. Perhaps doing so would lighten the load, perhaps it would make the punishment easier. Perhaps she could even not be punished at all. She didn't know how things worked around here.

And there was only one way to find out.

She looked at the man who questioned them, eye-to-eye. No fear. No hesitation.

"I am the one who made the explosions.", she firmly spoke.

[/div][/div] [div class=Content] Scarlet walked slowly down the stairs with Matty to the first floor. She had to keep all her focus on what she was doing. She was still sore, and now her arm was in a good amount of pain. She wished they could have had some time to rest, but she couldn't now.

When they reached the bottom, she headed to where the bird she showed her Robert and Erika were. They were still where she remembered, and she started running over to talk to them and yelled "Hey guys." just before seeing the guards handcuff Robert, because they thought he had fire powers, and Erika confess.

This was bad. These were guards from the empire. If they find out Erika caused the hole in the wall, then they will think Erika’s an enemy, or worse. They will know she lied.

Scarlet ran over to them, assuming Matty was still behind her. “There you are! I wanted to thank you for saving me and the rest of the heroes from those OTHER attackers that broke the wall. If it weren’t for the explosions you caused to protect us, we would have been in serious danger.” Scarlet said openly in front of the guards. “Right?” she said with a desperate face that said please go along.

Scarlet then turned her attention to Robert. “Don’t worry guards, this is another hero like me. I’m the hero Scarlet, and he doesn’t have fire powers, actually the opposite he has ice. I wouldn’t ask him to use it though, he doesn’t know how to control it at all. Right Matty?” she said. The last part was true so Matty wouldn’t be lying.

Scarlet didn’t know whether the guards would even believe her because the summoner said they were early. So people might not believe they’re heroes. It was another gamble. Matty finds the collection of guards the most familiar element of this fantastical scene. She was made to fight with soldiers and these were surely soldiers. As the 'heroes' were evidently not. Still, the way the summoners spoke suggests they fit into the local chain of command in some fashion. Did that mean she was obliged to work with them? Matty has a number of prime directives but, in the absence of her Apache, or the United States military, or Earth itself, most don't apply.

As long as this isn't a communist nation, at least. America will never fall to Communist invasion.

Scarlet continues to speak as if she's the CO. Perhaps she is. Dutifully, Matty nods and delays speaking as she marvels that her body has reflexive body language it evidently employs when prompted by situational cues. What other surprises does she have in store for herself? Clearing her throat, another sensation that's novel for her, the Elven Monk speaks to the guards. "We were summoned for a purpose. The leader of those who summoned us is above," and she points back up towards the hole in the wall. "He is restoring communications with the Emperor. I suggest you accompany us back to the summoning room so we can receive authenticated orders."

tl;dr: everyone gets captured and put back in the summoning chamber. If you want to skip semantics, go to the third section of this post.

NPCs + Robert

If the imperial knight was surprised or touched by Erika's revelation, he didn't show it. He simply nodded in acknowledgment, then said, "Seize her."

After Erika arrived and said some really, really, foolish-sounding things, the leading knight lifted one hand from behind his back, palm outwards, stopping his subordinates - the ones who were carrying Robert paused, as well, despite looking in a different direction. They returned to stand behind their leader, as he looked forward blankly.

Then, as if he were a robot with a new directive, he looked at Scarlet. "I have a lie detector in my helmet."

He gave her a moment - more than instant, but less than a full second - to let that sink in, then ordered, "Antiseptics on everyone here."

The four guards at his disposal split their tasks - one remained with Robert, keeping him in place, while the other three moved, handcuffing one person each; Scarlet, Erika, and Matai.

The moment the handcuffs were placed on them, they'd feel a wave of energy crash through their bodies, then swirl into their brains. An enchantment, removing any thoughts regarding the use of magic or the idea of escaping and taking the handcuffs off. Such ideas would literally be blocked behind a mental wall, preventing even theoretically conceptualizing them, let alone acting on them.

The imperial knight leader moved a step away, then pressed the plate on the side of his helmet. "IK-seven-seven-blue speaking. Four suspects claim involvement in a hero summoning ritual."

A moment passed, then he said, "Three adult human; male, female, female, one adult elf; female." Another pause in his speech, before he looked up at Robert and said, "Blonde male, human. Identify yourself loudly."

Robert blinked several times, realizing that he was the one being told to identify. Then, realizing he'd wasted roughly three seconds by being silent, he almost screamed, "Uh! Uh! Robert Pelham!"

There was a moment of silence, then he said, "IK-seven-seven-blue to IK-seven-eight-blue. Your targets; one adult cervitaur female, one adult human male are to be brought to the summoning room on the third floor. IK-seven-nine-blue, your target; one adult human male, black hair and inebriated, is to be brought to the summoning room on the third floor. IK-eight-zero-blue, eight-one-blue, eight-two-blue, dismantle operations and apply clamps on MIT. Awaiting confirmation."

After a second, he let go of the plate in his helmet, then looked at Robert. "You. You have a power that creates ice?"

"I swapped it," Robert replied, trembling.

"Swapped?"

"For one that makes cool shit out of, like, glass or something."

The knight stopped for a moment. It wasn't clear if he blinked through his helmet, but he probably did. "I see. You can change your powers?"

Robert, in a brilliant moment of having grown balls suddenly, said, "Of course, 'my lord.'"

"Are you air-quoting me?"

"'No.'"

"Take them 'away.'"

The group was led towards the third floor, and Robert shook with excitement when they were outside the officer's hearing range. "Did you see that?! I did a banter thing with one of our captors! This is so awesome! It hasn't even been a day and I'm already partaking in tropery! And that sergeant guy is so cool! They're like cold robots, but still capable of back-and-forth chatter! This is the best world ever!"

The knight behind him tightened his grip on the handcuffs and harshly said, "Silence, worm." Robert let out a pained hiss and several 'ahs' of pain.

###

Eva and Hei were handcuffed. The moment the manacles were placed on their wrists, some kind of mind-affecting effect began to enter their minds, removing any thoughts of using magic or escaping as a possibility.

They were then brought back into the MIT, through a cordon, before the guards leading them stopped, as one of them seemed to receive a message. He nodded, then waved for his subordinates to continue in the opposite direction.

###

Before long, everyone was back in the chamber where they met, wearing handcuffs that prevented even thinking about escape or using magic.

The injured summoners were being tended to by people in white robes, who emitted some kind of light from their palms and let it wash over their bodies, mending their wounds and even clothing.

The wall was being repaired by a human-sized creature that looked like a mass of rocks and roots, with vaguely trollish features and a hunched posture.

It was using its own body to sprout bricks, telekinetically floated them into the hole, and froze them in place, where they fused with the wall. It then waited for its body to grow new bricks before continuing with more of the same.

The door to the comms room was forced open. Some kind of fiery mass floated inside, overseeing a group of summoners using radio-like devices and crystals to communicate with what could be assumed to be some kind of nation-wide information network.

The heroes stood in a row, while the Head Summoner cast glances towards the black-gold imperial knights that now filled the chamber.

He muttered something about never before seeing so many of them in the same place, before walking forward.

"W-w-we-we-we-w-welcome back, h-heroes!" he said, with more than a shadow of fear. "P-pe-pe-p-please d-eon't make a-a-any-anything e-e-e-plo-explode and run awa-awa-away this time... I r-really don't w-want to die... F-fortunately, C-C-Captain V-V-Ver-Ve-Ver-Verdestrom saw fit to r-re-re-requisition a full pla-platoon of Im-Imperial Knights for yo-your retrieval. We wo-wo-wou-wouldn't want any-anyone ki-ki-kidnapping you and t-ta-taking you awa-away else-elsewhere, after all! Hehe..."

One of the Imperial Knight sergeants gave him a dirty look.

"W-we-well, let's s-s-st-st-sa-s-start o-o-over aga-again. I am P-Philabert T-Tilghman... Could yo-you all introduce your-yourselves, so we kno-know your na-names, before I-I ex-explain the si-situa-situ-si-si-si-situ-si-si-situ-situa-situa-"

"Situation," an Imperial Knight sergeant cut in.

"Y-yes, th-the si-si-si-situ-situ-si-situ... Yes. P-p-pe-please, introduce you-you-you-yourselves, he-heroes!"

Of course. Sure. What else did she expect? Being let go because she admitted her fault? Being dragged back into the chamber that they left was tolerable, however, the cuffs and this strange feeling of getting her mind blocked by something is definitely intolerable. She knew something was off the moment those shackles clung onto her, but she simply couldn't what exactly what was off - always getting her thoughts to a halt and to an immediate blank.

When the re-gathered group was finally back at the start, along with the armored men, the man who was speaking earlier seems to have developed a stutter in the short amount of time that passed. Perhaps he was already like this in the past, and the explosion triggered it to come back. Or maybe he's just really scared of the big armored men, which is completely reasonable. As this stuttering man continued to speak with great difficulty, Erika was getting impatient. Annoyed. Frustrated.

This thing would have not happened at all if she just ran away. A mistake that she now has to pay for.

Once the stuttering man finally finished, she immediately stepped up. The accumulating emotions were evident in her eyes.

"Remove these first.", she raised her shackled hands. "And whatever it is you're doing to our brains, get rid of it."

She gave this rather ferocious gaze towards the stuttering man.

"And then we'll do this introduction of yours."

It was clear that she's not gonna back down, after all, in this world it's either you step up, or you get stepped on.

Being interrogated.

The day of this average salary man would turn more and more annoying as it continued, first he woke up late for work, then he got transported to another world and the worst of it he's now being arrested, hell he probably even get diplomatic immunity, that probably doesn't apply to parallel universes? Right? Probably.

But looking on the bright side they at least didn't search him when they handcuffed him, maybe these dystonian looking enforcers were nicer then they appeared to be at first, maybe they won't give him the death penalty for killing that poor head summoner, only 30-40 years in Jail with hard labour, that'd be alright.

Getting back to the summoning room only more good news would materialise, as the head summoner who now had a speaking disorder for god knows what reason was still alive. This made Hei smile as he looked at the directly into the eyes of the man, the lack of sleep making his ability to determine that what he was doing was somewhat creepy lacking.

Luckily his smile would be turned upside down into a frown as he heard Erika asked for their restraints to be taken off, what the hell did this highschool musical "What about trust?" girl just say? Looking at the head guard he would say;

"I'm Heikin Futsūnotoko, I work in I.T. I'd give you my business card but I've ran out."

With the heroes rounded up for interrogation, Matty considers her directives once more.

Escape is impossible. Their captors hold all the power in this exchange. She knew how to lie, thanks to a programmer with dubious ethics, but evidently that would be useless with these military resources. Even if it weren't, she has no reason to be deceptive at this time. Matty's prior assessment still stands; she knows perilously little about this world and its dynamics. As long as their captors don't ask her questions that are privileged information, there's no reason not to work with them. At least unless or until they ask her to execute an illegal order.

"My formal designation is MATAI," she says to the head summoner and the guard captain. "Most people call me Matty. Most people also react poorly to situations they aren't trained for, especially civilians who haven't opted into being put into unexpected situations. Civilian cooperation rates improve by 78% when provided context for why they should perform a requested behavior. If this is a time sensitive discussion, you may expedite it by explaining first and then requesting personal identification."

[/div][/div] [div class=Content] In a moment Scarlet had been called out on her slowly growing web of lies and arrested with everyone else. Which itself was confusing considering that she would have gone willingly, and Matty already expressed their willingness to come.

In the seconds after the man handcuffed Scarlet, she let out a sound of discomfort as her arm was still in pain. To think a society that would otherwise be considered behind in technology would have something like lie detectors, or the handcuffs that she's wearing. While she wouldn't be able to tell what it was doing to her mind, she could tell something was wrong, and after they came off she would know.

Scarlet lowered her head as they walked up the stairs back to the summoning room, walking slower than the others. She was still not feeling well and the recent events pushed her further than she expected. She had underestimated this world, but every moment that went by she learned more and the more she learned the more she would control. She had quickly become invested in this world. Snapping out of her thoughts she realized that she was acting differently. It wasn't like her to care so much about these things.

She brushed it off as being in a high tense moment and watched the head summoner. He was talking differently, was this because of them? She felt bad for him.

"My name is Scarlet Emerlye." she said in response to him asking them to introduce themselves. Just as everyone else was interested in understanding their situation Scarlet too had something to ask. She opened her mouth to speak, he voice sounding weaker than she intended, "Can we go back to our world?"
