Sleek Sleek Well, that sounds like an excellent place to start! So how, exactly, would a Spartan fight off a Scarab? I assume it's not by firing hollow points at it.

Also Specialist Specialist what would be Samus' "mission" here, then? I was under the impression it was "don't die" or maybe "don't die and also don't let the suicidal escort mission GMPC die" but I would think both of those would be resolved by just carrying Alva under one arm and booking it.

Shining Wizard Shining Wizard the same way Alexandria would take this out. A direct boarding action. Either drop a grenade into the crew cabin(s) or fire shredder rounds to cause a bunch of shrapnel to fly around

Sleek Sleek Okay, great! A few questions:
A. How would a Spartan climb the Zaku without getting crushed to death either by it just normally moving around or it swatting at them?
B. Where do you plan to get grenades or shredder rounds considering neither of those are on your character sheet?
C. How would one enact a boarding action on something with an enclosed cabin?
D. How does shooting a pistol at it figure in?

Shining Wizard Shining Wizard shredder rounds are in the sheet under the MA5D.
And Spartans are ridiculously strong, with IIs in GEN2 armor having strength beyond Covenant Brutes, which are arguably the most physically able species bar Hunters. That being said, they're also fast and with reflexes that when paired with neural enhancements that improve creativity allow them unprecedented reactions, could reasonably allow Alexandria or Samus both to avoid attacks and easily climb the machine. From there they can either break the glass of the chest cabin compartment and work from there, or open an access hatch forcefully.

And the M6D is a pistol that can crack shields and actually damage heavily armored vehicles

Sleek Sleek But there isn't any glass? It's just like a solid foot of bullshittium super robot space metal that folds up in the shows. Like a bank vault or a nuclear sub. If you had weapons from Marathon I could buy it, but Halo tech is one of those things that's only impressive in relation to stuff from it's own setting, you know?

It's kinda funny, because I didn't even intend for the Zaku to be a serious fight. More of a silly chase scene, like the Indiana Jones boulder but it's a giant rampaging puke-green killbot. Heck, going back further, I didn't even expect to bring out the Zaku this early. It was supposed to start with a wacky on-foot chase scene with the Zeon grunts that escalated into the Zaku as a big setpiece. If I'd known you guys were actually willing to do a fight scene I'd have probably gone with the Gilgamesh Confederation instead of Zeon but Zakus really are the lowest tier of mobile suit I can believably bring out here.

Shining Wizard Shining Wizard that's fine. There will likely be access points and barring that they can simply be enough of a nuisance that they can make the pilots inadvertently disable it ala Incredibles

Sleek Sleek I mean, MS are meant to work in space so I don't know why you're so convinced that there would be large, obvious openings in the fuselage. But hey, if you want to just wing it I guess that's cool too.

Specialist Specialist So, what, if someone was to start a pointless fight you'd just let them start it and then shoot the guy they picked a fight with? Because letting the squishy escort mission who has displayed no particular combat prowess stay on the front line seems kinda... counter-intuitive?
Well, even if it's weird, I guess I'm not really in a position to tell you how to play your character. As long as you're having fun, man.

Also The Mad Queen The Mad Queen while it's not the greatest for generating conflict I'm really digging how you're sticking hard to the space millennial angle. Your guy really does perfectly encapsulate that whole "inconsistent, self-righteous spoiled princess" archetype that people love to hate perfectly, down to people just throwing free stuff at her to justify her entitlement. Immense kudos.

I assume you're joking.

Trained soldier sees giant mech appear and squash someone before lunging at them and the civilians they're with. I'm not really sure how that's a pointless fight but cool beans I guess.

The Mad Queen The Mad Queen Wait, but isn't Oliver an NPC? I mean, you took control of my NPC and assigned him a bunch of new traits earlier, so I assumed this was fair play.

And no, I'm really not kidding. I love your character; she's a really wonderful foil for Torgo.

Shining Wizard Shining Wizard [sigh.] I was really holding out on the hope that maybe I'd just give this the benefit of the doubt against my better judgement that hey, we all make mistakes and things can be worked around and drama especially can be avoided, but there's a clear as hell facetious and disrespectful attitude you're putting out in your IC and OOC actions, and quite frankly it's been a bother that I've avoided having to notice until now. It's getting quite ridiculous.

There is a pretty big difference between some soldier on the street and a companion NPC though, but I can understand the confusion.
There's also a pretty big difference between making one soldier buy a bad routine and turning a former M16 agent mentor type into Homer Simpson (or Peter Griffin), but each to their own I guess.

I just thought it was Torgo being a bit of an asshole at first myself but it seems to be an overall thing.

The Mad Queen The Mad Queen But isn't he stated to be old and overweight? And even if he's in an important organization, intelligence agents are still basically desk jockeys, right? Is he actually supposed to be really fit and I just missed it somewhere on the CS?
I mean, I only did it so you'd have time for a proper fight scene, given everyone seems to have decided on a fight scene and it seemed rude to just halfway through go "oh it's fine Oliver got the space cops" and end it there.

Also Specialist Specialist if this is about the Zaku, I already said I was sorry about that. I really did think after our pm conversation- the one where you said you weren't planning to do any fight scenes- that you'd be open to the idea of a chase sequence instead. Or if not that then at least, like, get some explosives or something instead of trying to engage it with small arms fire. You know, the normal stuff you'd do in an FPS when you run into a big setpiece monster.

He's super old but has an anti-ageing formula. There's nothing about him being overweight or comically unfit.
Alva was staying to fight but given Oliver's gear consists of a Walter PPK and some basic stuff that would do little more to the mecka than annoy it she told him to get out and find them an escape route, not get the cops.

EDIT- While I'm aware MI6 does a lot less actual James Bond stuff this was in a tabletop RPG that was a mixture of classic spy/secret agent tropes, the suicide squad (comics) and some horror thrown in...So more like the MI6 agents you see on TV and in films than IRL.
His great-niece is a transgender half-Fey with an angry tree spirit possessing her body who became sisters with an 800 year old Malkavian...It's fair enough to say that realism went out the window long before Oliver's introduction in that game.
Furthermore, the organisation he infiltrated (Bump Inc) is a horrifying mixture between the SCP Foundation, XCOM and Task Force X. You need cardio otherwise yo gonna die in like the first five minutes.

There was actually a running joke about a guy called Gary the intern. An overweight guy who seemed to be in a predicament every week.

The Mad Queen The Mad Queen You know, that is strange. I could have sworn there were a few mentions of him being overweight in the earlier posts, but I guess I must have been assigning traits for the purposes of Torgo's interaction because I'm really not seeing it anywhere. He really is just a secret agent guy with a gun and no particular flaws of any kind.

Guess I'll see what other reason I can come up with, then. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

The first post had Torgo calling him a "fat otaku" I think it came from that but I just never corrected it as she never said it out-loud or anything of the sort. Given what she's called Alva I just took it as Torgo's perception of the niece-grunkle duo (plus tiger).

Yo Shining Wizard Shining Wizard Sleek Sleek The Mad Queen The Mad Queen Specialist Specialist , do you mind if I drop a character in next to you? I think I've got a solution to the problem you folks are facing.

As an aside, I'm sort of surprised Shining Wizard assumed all of you would have the stuff to bring down a Zaku. Even though they're cannon fodder in canon, it's pretty abundantly shown that light infantry are automatically dead meat against one, unless they've got the drop on it and have a lot of big guns. I guess I'm also surprised that 'escape from the building-sized supertank' wasn't automatically the first action y'all would take? Anyways, I'll be happy to bring in some heavy firepower if it helps move the story along for you all!

DrBones DrBones I'll admit I had always the assumption Halo guns were more along the lines of classic FPS guns that are just magical wands of fiery murder and death, but after looking them up they turned out to be more like really mundane modern guns with some minor extra gimmicks like double magazines. Well, and the needler. The needler is still fairly rad.

Anyway though yeah feel free to cut this scene short after the next Zaku post because we seem to be stalling out around the whole "attack the big red glowing weakpoint" stage.
