TV & Film What are the most cancerous fandoms you have ever seen?

The niche fandom of MLPWarhammer. It is rather frustrating, but it is pseudopopular.

Steven Universe hands down. The shows okay but damn the fandom. I'd say it can burn in he"l if it wasn't the incarnation of burning hell.

I'd also like to give a shout out to the homestuck fandom, not for being cancerous, but for being terrifying!

Anyway, that's all I have to say on the matter and I don't want to get into arguments so... bye.

Pretty much every fandom gets cancerous over short period of time. Can't recall any fandom that didn't receive bad rep.

Most famdoms I love are awful. But probably the worse is Star Wars. Though Galaxy of Adventures has acted as a metaphorical chemo to help get rid of some of the cancer, most if the time, a "fan" is either a fat entitled asshole who claims that the EU was flawless, and that everything Disney does is the work of the matriarchy. I mean, the EU had some great stuff. Mainly The Old Republic, though. Everything else was a 50/50 on whether it was good or not. The other camp is the entitled assholes who worship the sequels, and scream at you for liking anything else. Oh and there's also the Prequel shitposters who've had it with the infighting, and love the prequels to spite everyone else (I actually like these guys.) So I'm basically watching my beloved series burn as I'm unable to do anything about it. So yeah.

i think worst community is OC people from deviant art, with all sorts of weird fetishes there on many popular children cartoon shows characters.

competitive smash bros. has to be one of the most festering fandoms i have ever seen.
these people attack sakurai for not adding their favourite character (not limited to competitive but you know it's easier to just say competitive), sending him threats or just really cruel messages because "wHeRe iS gEnO".
most of the competitive smash players also seem to be extremely arrogant and full of themselves. not a 25+ year old man that knows the ins and outs of the game you're playing, right down to the tiny little imperfections? YOURE TRASH.
they seem to forget smash is a game rated e for everyone, and that while it does cater to its competitive community, its also aimed towards children as young as 10.

honourable mention goes to some parts of the fire emblem community. full of lolicons and elitists.

I've seen a lot of things on Furaffinity that would scar my childhood lol so I guess the furry fandom even though my husband and I are Furries? Just not Those kind of Furries? I've seen all my childhood animal characters in art that is mislabeled and is scarring to look at on the Browse setting. Especially Bolt and Dodger. Leave childhood movie characters alone!

Another one that I find creepy are the Beliebers (did I spell that right?) Because growing up I knew girls who cut themselves, wished actresses dead because they were with Justin, and threatened to commit suicide if he ever stopped singing. Toooxiiic. One of the reasons I used to really dislike his music. He was an ok singer but boy were his fans crazy!

Black Butler is kinda creepy mostly because people ship Ciel and Sebastian. Ciel is a child... Sebastian is an adult man. That's just creepy ._. that's Sebastian being a pedo

I don’t have experience with the first two fandoms but wow that sounds bad. Those people need help

But ugh I totally agree with you on the Black Butler thing. The fans are so scary. Ciel is 12 and Sebastian is probably centuries old or something? It’s extremely creepy to me, and even creepier that it isn’t just a niche part of the fandom, I feel like it’s the majority (at least the majority of the people I’ve met that like Black Butler).

it's definitely more of a community, but i'm at my wits end with the lgbt community. in fact, i could almost argue that it's almost turned into a fandom rather than a community, and it's disgusting. all these mogai sexualities and made up genders are making me so embarrassed and ashamed to be a gay man that i would almost give anything to be straight at this point, since these kinds of people are so intent on making such a mockery of REAL lgbt people.

Being straight at this point basically means having any personality traits other than your sexual orientation and/or gender identity, so I think you're good.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned K-pop yet, but... K-pop.

I love the music, but the fans are ridiculous. If a male idol gets a girlfriend, or even if there are just rumors that he is dating someone, that poor girl’s social media gets spammed with death threats.

They also bring up BTS (specifically BTS) in completely unrelated situations. Go to the YouTube comments of any video and scroll and you’ll find someone talking about BTS.

There are some great fans out there. Once, Jonghyun of SHINee (God rest his soul) got close to his fans at a concert and let them stroke his hair and touch his face, saying that he trusted them not to hurt him. And no one did. There are lots of instances like that throughout Korean music history. But the toxicity of the fandom remains. Fan wars between fans of different groups or solo artists get messy constantly, since within K-pop, you have mini-fandoms dedicated to individual artists. (These are official fanclubs named by the artists or their company. Like PewDiePie’s “bros” or “9 year olds”, K-pop and koreaboos have BTS’s Army, EXO’s EXO-Ls, etc)

It’s bad out here. Send help.

Also, the new rise of sadboi culture. Billie Eilish, XXXtentacion, shitty lofi music with pictures of Bart Simpson being sad... *shudder*

Voltron reboot. Dear lord. The ships and attacks on staff made me dislike season 7 more than I did originally.

kpop even though im also in the same fandom for me i guess. Im not in that many fandoms and the fandoms I'm in is pretty much cool now that I'm reading everyone's reply. kpop fans when united is such a sight, but man when they catfight, it's like WWIV

Not to mention the community turns on it's other members. People who say bisexuality doesn't exist or that bisexuals don't experience the same kind of crap as gay people. What utter shite.
Don't even get me started on people in the LG and B that shit on the T 24/7.

Thankfully, that's not really something I've seen in my own country (aside from one person) but it's all over the internet.

i think considering how prevalent it is on the internet makes it seems like a lot larger of a group of people than it really is
but nonetheless it's still a big issue and incredibly disheartening

I tend to stick to T groups these days as there's not a lot of those problems within them. Even so, I have had run-ins with the occasional asshole. One person in particular said I wasn't worthy as I wasn't "risking my life" to defeat bad causes.

The one b group I follow has a lot of memes and the people there haven't been assholes, or the ones who have in the past have been banned. Given the community faces a lot of opposition as a whole it's really hurtful that it's fighting itself.

The League of Legends, Smite, and Overwatch communities are pretty toxic only because of the divide between it's members.

Many players fit into 2 categories; competitive or casual, and the mixing of these two types of players starts conflict. Eithet when a less experienced or skiled player enters a competitive game or a high ranking player carries a casual team in quickplay, it usually ends with some sort of toxicity.

Hey, to bring up a fandom that isn't actually cancerous at all: The Kirby Fandom. We have nothing to be cancerous about. You can't cosplay our characters, they're not even remotely human, so we don't give people hell about it. Our worst games have only been "okay". Etc.

Bye.

As someone who frequently goes to anime cons, the worst fandoms I've seen throughout the years have been:
- FNAF
-Homestuck (I was happy to eventually see it start dying down)
- Hetalia

I've also seen some parts of the Love Live fandom get bad at times

I've replied to this thread before, but I've got a new fandom to add. Competitive Smash Bros. Also known as the physical manifestation of this image:

imagine being offended by how other people choose to play a game
