Realistic or Modern California: The Goddammit Chronicles

I abstain from voting this time because I'm too petty to accept getting outvoted.

>Ignore it

Something's up and I don't like it. Even if you didn't lock the door, there might be someone dangerous behind that door. And if he enters without so as much as announcing his presence, he may be a thief or a thug for all we know. The girl we met's a shady character. Nobody in their right mind would pass out in the middle of the street drunk with nobody to help them. The entire scenario is just so sketchy that I think its better to just hang back and see what happens.

Out of the kindness of his heart, Bill throws the covers off of him, and groggily walks over to see what's up. Since there was a minor inconvenience; no peephole, he had to open the door to see who it was.

It was the girl, shivering from the cold night. "Umm... hi, c-can I come back in?"

Bill gave his best look of disapproval that he could while sleepy. "Should you-a... have your own place of residence?"

"I d-did, but I can't go back t-there anymore."

Oh really? "Why not?"

"I don't wanna talk about it..."

>Let her in

If we could trust her high, we can trust when she's not. Besides, better to question her away from the cold, don't want to let in a draft.

>Let her in, but only if she promises to eat the eggs from earlier. Eggs don't just grow from trees after all, they cost cash money dolla' bills.

>Let her in.

I don't trust this woman. She drinks herself to unconsciousness out on the streets no less. She's been kicked out of her own home. You don't know her and the folks she's staying with. But I don't want to be a cruel person. Why is she trying to break our damn hearts? Just give her shelter for the night and try to figure out what the hell's going on tomorrow morning. But I tell you, she's bad news, and the moment she does anything suspicious you should kick her out!

My name is Carl. I'm a police officer. We respond to various emergencies and incidents throughout California. Though most of the time it's just a bunch of teenagers or moronic adults causing trouble.

Why one time, there was this idiot that decided to strip naked and go swimming in the mall fountain. Everyone and their children were mortified, so security was called to stop him. Unfortunately, diplomacy didn't mean a damn thing to him, so the upcoming attempt to restrain him was met with water being splashed on their uniforms, as the perp fled. Imagine that; a naked man running past while two security officers run after him, wheezing.
Eventually, a few cop cars were called into catch him, as he was now running across the parking lot on a hot summer day, barefoot. I honestly don't remember the gibberish he spewed at us as we caught up to him and pinned him down, but naturally that must have been uncomfortable. We gave the fucker some clothes before we brought him in.

Hopefully I don't have to deal with any more stupid shit like that.

Carl was waiting in line for the morning coffee. The customers take their order, quickly get their coffee/pastries, then take a seat or leave. Carl was now going to be next in line, but then some asshole cuts in line, standing in front of him like he's in charge.
The policeman grunts slightly.

As an officer of the law, it essential that we let no crook get away with their deeds. Especially if they're trying to make us wait longer for our coffee

> Arrest him for his horrid action and make him bribe you if he wants to serve a shorter sentence.

"Hey, you can't cut in front of me. Get to the back of the line." Carl says, irritated that his morning coffee has been delayed by this asshole.

The man turns a bit, unconcerned. "Hey, no one cares about cutting, man. Just wait for me to take my order like a mature person." Fucking ignorant scum.

I suppose I am getting into the role a bit too much. I'll back off.

Leave it alone, but never forget what happened here. Knowing the character of this man is good enough, you have already received your reward. Also you can't cause a scene because someone just pissed you off! You're an officer of the law for crying out loud. What are you? Some kind of barbarian? Don't go on a power-tripping spree or it'll be the end of you.

(Coin flip!)

Carl breathed in deeply like he was about to let loose with all of his profanity, and just sighed, letting go of his thoughts of revenge.

As the customer up front got their coffee, that damn cutter stepped up. "I'd like a-"
"No, sir. I'm busy taking -his- order;" the barista says, pointing as Carl. "Would you come up, please?"

The cutter started to protest. "Hey wait just a minute, I was here before him!"

The barista shakes his head, while smiling. "Unfortunately, what you said earlier contradicts that. Now if you want something, you'll have to move to the back of the line."
Carl grins as well, giving the staredown to the angry man walking back near the entrance. He steps up to the counter. "Hey, Carl! The usual, right?"

"You got it, Kirk. Thanks for dealing with that; that asshole was starting to piss me off."

"No problem." The payment is processed, and Carl takes his coffee.

As soon as Carl walks outside, the cutter is waiting outside. One glance is all it takes for him to say "Fuck you".

". . ." Don't make him push your luck. And if you start getting defensive, he'll know he's pushing your buttons. If you want to stay above this charade, don't act until he gives you a reason to. Just ignore him, he's just the first asshole of the day. No need to get worked out so much.

I sat down and thought about my actions, and then realized I should keep picking the most aggressive option. It'll work eventually.
