Akira Komatsu

Was the 1-C classroom on the east side of the building or the west side? Which side of the building was she even on? Akira pondered about this as she was heading down the stairs, moving along the landing. It didn't particularly matter, since she'd likely find her way there eventually if she kept following the hallway. Just as she was resigning herself to simply wandering the first floor halls, Akira felt someone bump into her, knocking her off balance for a moment. She heard the flutter of pages as a book dropped to the ground, turning just as the person behind her exclaimed softly. She'd hardly even noticed him until now, blinking in surprise as she caught sight of the dark haired boy.

"Ah- hey there," Akira said, taking only a second to regain her composure before sliding her hand over her carefully styled hair, just in case it had been mussed up. Her silver earring glinted in the sunlight as she stood silently for a brief moment, looking at the boy before her gaze traveled downwards towards the book that lay on the ground.

Stooping down, Akira picked up the book, glancing at the title as she straightened up. Her gaze returned to the boy, flashing him an amused smirk as she held the book out to him.

"I believe this is yours," she remarked, a small chuckle escaping her lips. "Must be interesting if it kept you from looking where you were going."

Thanfully for Charlotte, Amano-san didn't mind being called by his family name all too much. She basically swallowed down that regret in relief. There was one hurdle down and another just popped up immediately. It seemed like Amano-san didn't like talking about his future all too much and he seemed rather vocal about it too. Hell he blatantly dodged after a bit, and to that Charlotte wasn't the happiest, but at the same time she didn't want to over step her boundaries and instead just kind of wore a miffed facial expression for a bit.

She would on the other hand talk about her plans for the future. "I have everything planned out, on top of having a back up the family business if I wanted to. You don't have anything you're really passionate about to go after?" And because Charlotte of course was talking about something close to her heart she just kind of blurted out anything that came to her mind. She immediately regretted it and mentally covered her mouth. "No , forget. I talked out of line....don't worry about it too much."

Next thing she knew Amano-kun was walking around, trying to literally dodge this conversation and to sort of show her around. She sighed in relief, though it might seem like an insulting to to having to follow him, and well followed after him. "What exactly do you mean by youth....making?" That was truly the question at hand and although Charlotte was a innocent, naive child, she did know about health classes and other things. The was really hoping he didn't mean anything too indecent. Amano-kun's mannerism was sort of growing on her slightly, though the slight narcissism is still off putting.

Touya Amano

Youth-making as in like...youthful things! Like...things you do with your friends, or moments you only get to enjoy when you’re in school, before you gotta deal with adult things like work and stuff. ...You know?” Touya said it all so easily, but in reality he couldn’t think of a clear-cut way to explain it. It was just something you...got, you know? Like some inherent understanding in the minds of every child or teenager, something you reminisced over when you got older and (in his case) clung to desperately before adulthood caught up to you. He didn’t think about it like...ever, but Charles had inadvertently opened up this buried box of thought.

Touya headed down the stairs, with Charles thankfully in tow. For half a second, he’d been sure the odd transfer student would choose to disappear from him as quickly as he could. Well - he supposed the other boy didn’t have much choice. Not like he knew where else he could go or who else he could to talk to. Sad - he’d probably be able to warm himself up to the smart, studious kids, if he were to let on to others about “having everything planned out”. He thought it was a boring way to live, no adventure or excitement to it at all, but he hadn’t been about to spill his situation at the inn with a stranger. Especially when it was about his future.

As they reached the tops of the steps, he opened the door to the roof. The sunlight was almost blinding today, a nice spring breeze in the air. Touya paused just outside the door, inhaling deeply and grinning triumphantly.

The rooftop is a prime spot for youthful moments! The teachers never come up here and after school with the sun setting and your friends with you, just shooting the breeze...there’s nothing quite like it! Some people sneak up here for lunch too.” It wasn’t even close to lunchtime, but Touya was already craving more coffee just at the thought of it. Coffee was the best drink, fight him.

Charlotte was trying to make fun of how Amano-kun was describing this youth making stuff. It was really just a very confusing way to describe having fun whilst being young to enjoy it. Like goofing off basically. That was at least what Charlotte was picking up from the entire description, if that was wrong...well she would be completely clueless about what Amano-kun was trying to say there. So in order to clarify she spoke up, just to make sure. "So...like goofing off?"

Charlotte actually took notice of where she was being lead, after all she headed this way earlier today before homeroom had started. That's right she was met with the rooftop once more. Her old nemesis. She must of ended up here about 3 times trying to look for her home room, it was honestly rather sad to think about it. In order for it not to happen again she had previously made a mental note on how to get to the rooftop so that if she ever starting going in that direction she could stop herself. Now she was lead here...irony at its finest.

Charlotte listened to Amano-san's description about how to spend time up here and one thought popped into her head. "So like a romance novel.....are you asking me.....to come up here with you at lunch?" She wasn't even thinking she might blow her cover, because she was seriously curious about it all. It was a typical romance set up and everything. Charlotte was too intrigued to hear his answer about a common romance trope to even consider hiding her gender. She may or may not have just fucked up.

Rin Satoyoshi

Rin sighed deeply and smiled awkwardly towards Mino as he had done something really bad which resulted in the actions of just now. ”Actually, he kissed me yesterday and I was too stupid to think that he meant it so I didn’t do much about it. I should’ve told him that he wasn’t my type…” He muttered under his breath as he felt like shit right now. His whole luck went to the ground on the first day of school, which was quite repeatable. It had been like this every year, well at least 3 of them since he stopped bothering himself about what people would think about him and that lead him to being dense when it came to relationships. Even more when they involved romance as he couldn’t see anyone in that perspective. His mother had said that it could’ve been due to the bullying.

Letting Mino rub over his sore spot, liking to be spoiled like this a lot. ”Mino… Are you still a virgin?” He asked out of the blue as he got curious about it now the subject of relationships came. They never really talked about it or Rin just didn’t hear about it yet. Leaning a little forward towards Mino’s direction in case the other didn’t want to say it out loud. ”I won’t tell anybody.” He commented with a cheeky grin now that the bad stuff seemed to have past. At least that was what he hoped. The last thing he wanted was another slap in the face or worse. ”I lost mine two years ago. I don’t really remember her face nor name though.” He said bluntly, not really caring about how that person would’ve felt if they got to know about this.

"What do you mean he wasn't your type, Rin-Rin? He looked perfect for you!" He said with a soft smile but then it faded soon afterwards. "Well, probably not anymore. He probably wouldn't enjoy your company.. especially after he just slapped you a couple moments ago." He said, looking away from Rin and then looking at the door that was once slammed by the other male when he had left. He knew how much Rin enjoyed being spoiled. Mino would always spoil most of his friends, but Rin was always the one that got the most out of Mino. Because he had such a soft spot in his heart for the other male, and he couldn't just let him go without having the things he wanted most! Mino also gave most of his hugs and kisses to Rin, leaving all of his other friends jealous of the two. Some people would even think that Rin and Mino were dating, but every single time it would be brought up, Mino would get all defensive and he would just repeat that they were just friends, and nothing more.

"Am I a.." Mino's cheeks grew red at the subject and he looked at Rin's desk instead of in his eyes. The reason why they never talked about things like this is because Mino would get so embarrassed and then when he got embarrassed, he would stutter to the point that it was hard to even figure out what he was saying. "Y-Yes. I a-am." He managed to stutter out as he then looked at Rin. He wasn't surprised that Rin lost his virginity, because the boy was really handsome, who wouldn't want to have him sexually? As he thought about it, he covered his face and his blush grew worse. "S-Sorry, Rin-sama." He said softly as he took his hand off his face and he ran the same hand through his hair.

Nickolaus Morris Caeg

Age: 17

Horoscope: Aries

Birthday: April 17th

Class: 3-A

Club: Astronomy

Height: 5' 6'' (167cm)
Location: Staircase - Between the third and second floors
"Huh, classy.", the young man had muttered to himself once he stopped to study whoever had blocked his way.

Nickolaus' Chrysoberyl gaze swept over them quickly, making note of anything that was either unusual or that could tell him something about what type of person they were. From a first glance he had been able to gather that unlike about 85% of the students in the school, this person carried a sense of style to them. One that they seemed to wear quite proudly. The other boy's entire stance, when paired with their chosen haircut and the presence of an earring seemed to indicate a lean towards more visual, artistic hobbies. People that carried themselves like this wanted to be seen... or make some kind of statement. There were a handful of clubs that came to mind, but If he had to take one single conclusion, he would have probably gone for design. Probably not the art club though, they were too tame for an artist.

"This is not a proper place to stop.", the response was immediate and despite containing words akin to a lecture, his tone did not betrail any anger or annoyance. In fact, it was hard to read an exact emotion from it, if any. "If either you had been closer to the edge or I had been in a hurry, we could have both ended up seriously injured. I assume this is not how either of us would have liked to spend their first day."

Cae's attention had only shifted from the other student once his book was put back inside his field of view. He had almost forgotten completely about the object actually. The book in question was about 200 pages long, with a cover that was primarily black. The title in blue near the top read 'The Science of Inventions - Vol. 3: Transportation' and as expected, there were pictures of engines, vehicles and planes, plus what appeared to be a couple of formulae. It was clearly not a new book, yet it seemed to have been kept in top shape nonetheless.
The owner's form shifted slightly, gaze fixed on the softcover. Truth be told, the teenager was deeply bothered by having someone else pick it up, he really really didn't like when other people touched his possessions and felt extremely uncomfortable watching the scene unfold before him. Nickolaus had no idea of what the smirk had been for either, only making his current tribulation more painful to withstand.

Still, he had managed to remain more or less calm, reaching out for the book when it had finally been returned:

"Physics.", the boy took the object back, holding it firmly with both hands as if to keep it from escaping again, "I like knowing how things work and are built. If anything it makes me appreciate them differently, better. We take a lot of those for granted: busses, our own cell phones, even the chairs we spend so much of our lives sitting on. But, no one seems to stop to think about how they came to be or what life would have been without those..."

"I just don't think one can truly appreciate that which they don't make an effort to understand."

He paused, his expression carved into a serious one, suggesting that Cae believed firmly in every single word that he had just spoken. For a moment, a tense silence lingered until the young man spoke again, in a softer tone:

"Uh, I was going to the library... Did you have a destination in mind as well?"

Akira Komatsu

Akira had been somewhat surprised that she was being lectured about standing around, when it had been the boy who had bumped into her while not looking where he was going. He certainly was an interesting one, and Akira listened thoughtfully to his description of the book he was reading. It was, in her opinion, unusual for someone to be interested enough in physics to read about it in their spare time. Still, she supposed someone had to be, or there wouldn't be engineers or scientists. And while she found it unusual, she still smiled slightly at his explanation, appreciating the insight into his interests. She enjoyed learning about strangers, finding that chance encounters tended to lead to some fascinating insights when one left themselves open to it. More than the personal philosophy though, Akira enjoyed seeing his conviction. Passion was the fuel of human ingenuity after all.

"Ah, the library is on the ground floor right? I was headed in that direction too," Akira responded, somewhat of a non answer while still being true. She smiled encouragingly before she started to turn in the direction of the stairs, her head still turned towards Nickolaus as she tilted her head inquisitively. "Hm... physics, engineering, mechanics... I can see the appeal of gaining an appreciation for something through studying it in depth. Still, words alone only tell you so much. I do wonder... can you find all the answers you seek within the pages of a book?"

Her somewhat curious expression morphed into a somewhat cryptic one as she finished her question. There was a pause before she chuckled and waved a hand dismissively, her smile reverting back to an ordinary cheerful one.

"Well in any case, we may as well continue talking as we go. No sense wasting the whole free period standing around," Akira said as she beckoned for Nickolaus to follow her. "I'm curious to hear more about your reading interests. Do you always stick to nonfiction?"

Touya Amano

Something like that, yeah.

Goofing off was a good description for it. Touya had ended up shrugging in response to that as well. It was a good description but also made it all sound...kinda lame. Maybe it was, he didn’t know. Or maybe Charles just didn’t have much experience with this kind of youthful scene. At least, it was difficult for him to imagine anyone with, apparently (yes, he was still lowkey horrified by this thought), their whole life planned out would have much room for...fun.

It was a good thing that Touya didn’t know about Charles’ misadventure to the rooftop, multiple times that is, or else he probably wouldn’t have been able to stop himself from laughing. As it was, he remained blissfully oblivious to that fact. Still grinning as the breeze playfully ruffled his hair, he moved a bit farther out onto the rooftop where he could look past the protective fence out onto the grounds below.

What Charles said in response to what, in his eyes, was a basic description of the place, drew his eyes back so fast you’d think he’d have snapped his neck in the process. Romance novel..? Wait-

Are you hitting on me?” Touya asked bluntly, his baffled look fading into one of slight distaste as nerves suddenly attacked his insides. “Pass. Sorry but you’re not my type - even if I were into guys.” Which he 100% was not. Not at all. Nope, nothing suspicious here. “I’m saving myself for only the best, the purest and cutest girl there is!” Someone like his favorite pop star Minarin. His chances of meeting someone like her in an all-boys school was slim to none, but he could still dream. Dreaming was sometimes better anyway. You didn’t have to deal with the messiness of feelings.

I don’t eat lunch up here, actually. I’m usually in the classroom or out by the baseball field - but you’re welcome to come here by yourself - might make some friends that way. Or a boyfriend with the same idea as you, if that’s what you’re into."

Charlotte was glad that she finally understood what he meant by youth-making. Well that, and the fact that it actually wasn't anything lude what so ever. She actually exhaled a bit in relief...she probably shouldn't have, but still she was sooooo relieved. It would be an incredibly awkward kind of situation is she just suddenly was being told about sex stuff in the school, with Amano-san still assuming that she was a guy instead of a girl.

Speaking of an awkward situation, the whole romance novel setting just took it up about 30 steps in the atmosphere. In fact Charlotte became so flustered by it immediately stuttring and stammering her words, barely able to get sentences out. Still she was determined to get the misconception across for Amano-san. "N-no! No no no no, that's not w-w-w-w-what I meant! I swear!." Charlotte was like flailing her hands and everything, just to make sure she got the point across to him, though the blushing on her part was probably not helping either. She kind of just never really thought about romance all too much, unless it was in a novel she was reading.

It was a relief that Amano-san did "turn her down" even if she didn't mean it that way. He seemed rather pure about love and waiting for someone, which was also quite refreshing. Charlotte couldn't help but smile a bit when she heard him talk about it a little. "I really didn't mean it like asking you out. I just meant like this place looked familiar, like typical roman novel, or movie kind of vibes. Regardless, just because I have long hair like a girl, doesn't mean I'm looking for a boyfriend. I'm not really looking for romance at all." It was rather ironic that she said that, as her long hair kind of bristled in the wind. Charlotte kind of shrugged to that, she was after all speaking the truth.

"Ah, the library is on the ground floor right? I was headed in that direction too."

It was an innocent statement. The type that most people would simply gloss over quick and ignore. Yet, one Cae did not let it pass as he took notice of the wavering of the other's sentence. And with it came a single feeling, doubt. He was highly suspecting that said phrase had been meant to hide something, perhaps the lack of a destination... Thus, since there was a high probability of the student before him having settled on no direction to take, and since it was very unlikely someone else would be choosing to hang out in the library in the light of a free period, --and certainly not an arts leaning person--, his conclusion was such: This boy was probably lost and didn't feel like saying it.

Possessing of this new insight into the situation, the third-year let out a little confident grin and calmly responded:

"Ah, is that so? I guess you can join me then, just don't keep talking once we're there. Though that should be obvious...", he had started accompanying the other, trailing right behind, "Careful not to lose your way, the corridors are ample and probably filled with students right now. We'll have to cut through them eventually."

The first-year's next question had been a typical one, something he had been asked plenty of times before by multiple different individuals. Without hesitation, nonchalantly, as if it was common sense, the reply flowed out so smoothly that one could think it had been rehearsed, which wouldn't be that far from the truth:

"If I can't read about it, then I can still conduct my own experiment over it.", Nickolaus had finally shifted the book from two hands back into one, holding it perpendicularly against his body, "There's a lot that can be gained from observation or the testing of hypothesis. I'd document my findings down in a notebook, one I'd carry with me at all times, constantly adding to and altering it as I go.", once he was finished, the young man had straightened his glasses again, this time it had been more of a tick than a necessity.

Since Cae had already started following the other, albeit from a distance, he took the beckoning motion as some type of invitation. Speeding up his steps slightly to catch up with his eccentric Kouhai (freshman), soon the two were going down the staircase, side by side.

"I've tried it a couple times before...", he had started answering the final question, momentarily looking away from the other, "I liked it, in the sense of, I could see the effort that was put into the story, it was exceptionally very well-written!", finally looking back, Nickolaus slowly concluded, "But I honestly didn't know what to with the information afterwards."

"I understand why it's a thing and why it's so popular, but I doubt it was made for someone like me. It wasn't entertaining per se and didn't add anything either.", despite the usual, calm tone he had been using all along, there was a tiny, faint hint of something else, an unnamed, mysterious emotion that echoed behind each word, "Abstract concepts just don't appeal to me."

Akira Komatsu

"Hmm..." Akira hummed thoughtfully as she considered her words, hand trailing along the railing as she descended the stairs. "I suppose to each their own. Still, I think seeking what cannot be fully understood is also worthwhile."

She chuckled softly for a moment, eyes glinting with amusement. Nickolaus was certainly unlike most other teens she'd met, though then again she tended to spend most of her time around sociable people. The idea of gaining a deeper understanding through research made sense to her, although her own motivations when studying were to improve her performance. Knowledge for its own sake was something different, and something which Akira felt she herself did not have time for. The world was full of things to busy herself with after all.

"Of course, that's just my perspective," Akira continued. "I find stories keep my interest better, but it doesn't seem so different to me. Stories are just a way of better understanding people, rather than things. For me, people are more interesting than any machine."

She glanced over, her lips curled up in a slightly wry smile. "That's part of what makes me so charming. I stay focused on what people are thinking."

Nickolaus had looked at the other quizzically.

First, it had been the lines about seeking what could not be fully understood. Wouldn't that be... frustrating instead? The third-year was more than sure that crossing paths with such an unobjective concept would drive him to the brink of insanity. Honestly, he still struggled with the idea of the existence of problems, math equations, that had not been solved in millennia despite having been proposed... Math was supposed to be an exact science, was it not? Well, where had that precision gone?
If anything, he was convinced that running into anything like that would only prompt him to try again and again and again, merely making the teenager angry at the process. Not a fun time!

Then it had been the other student's take on fiction. Stories were a way to understand people... Understand people? Was a true understanding of human nature even possible? Cae agreed that the subject was an interesting one, even more, he was fascinated by it. But also incredibly frustrated. His dabbles into Psychology books had given the young man a bit of insight on the matter, just not enough. No, it was never enough.
Knowing the common reasons for X, Y or Z was one thing, yet in practice, theory had a tendency to falter. He had calculated a margin of error between 10 to 40 per cent, depending on the person, and that was the point that bugged him the most. Why were interpersonal relations always this uncertain? Always so bewildering...
He didn't get it, at all.

"But... Can you truly tell what people are thinking?!", he had stopped completely, too focused on what he was thinking and wanting to say to keep on moving, "There is no pattern. Even when you try to categorize them by apparent personality, hobbies, preferred colors... No matter the amount of data you have, the different ways you join them, the overlapping points... The enormous volume of variables, the rate of mutability of the data... It-"

The ever calm and confident tone Nickolaus had been using until this point started to waver, slowly, ever so slightly... Was that merely confusion showing finally showing itself or did it carry with it a single note of panic as well? If the teen had been paying attention to his own words there, he wouldn't have been able to tell:

"There is always a dissonance, an aberration, a missing piece of information that's capable of changing the outcome to unpredictable, radical ways. How can you claim to focus on what they're thinking when human beings themselves have such an innate, chaotic nature in the first place?"

"Have I been looking at this problem the wrong way??"
