New to RPNation, Old Hat at Roleplaying

Ecstatic Savant

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread!
Heyo! Figured I would introduce myself here? I've been into roleplaying for a while now, specifically on the tabletop with stuff like D&D and Traveller, but I don't have time for a group like before, so I thought I would try this out. I've almost always been the DM, so worldbuilding is my specialty. I tend to get long winded as a result, but don't be afraid to ask about any of my settings! Thanks everyone, I hope I enjoy it here!

Yeah same. I especially love reading about different worlds. The more unusual and detailed the better. What kind of genres to you generally use?

Most science fiction and dark fantasy, myself. However, I'm up for any sort of setting, I enjoy the challenge. Though admittedly, I'm kinda useless when it comes to more down-to-earth stuff.

I am terrible at world-building! I would love to improve, do you have a particular process or pattern you've fallen into?

My usual style is to take stuff from settings I like and mix it around until copyright lawyers can't sue me for it. Works wonders! But in all reality, I usually start working on something new once I feel particularly inspired by a recent book, game, movie, or whatever. When I was younger, I worried a lot about being seen as a shameless copycat, but I've since learned that you can play off of other ideas and add your own touch to make it unique. "What if X setting did this?" is how I often approach world building.

For instance, I recently played Bloodborne on PS4 and found myself enamoured with the setting. I started thinking on how I would expand on the world of BB if given the opportunity, which then spawned one of my latest works. There's many other ways to approach world building, but that's the one which helps me the most. I hope that helps you!

So am I. I usually need some kinda fantasy/sci-fi/paranormal whatever to keep me interested.

I've always enjoyed them more for their mobility and sheer scope than anything else. I'm perfectly fine with settings from other genera, but those two are still my favorite.

Mostly folks to help test stuff out and bounce ideas off of, as well as give out my own advice when I can. I don't know a lot of people like that where I live these days, so it gets frustrating to not have someone to share all this with.
