Video Games What Video Games do you consider to be Overhyped and/or Overrated?

For me, it's sports games like Madden or Fifa, or racing games like Need for Speed, etc. I never saw the appeal of those games. There's no storyline, no character development, yet many of my friends are entertained by it for hours. I understand its fun to play with friends sometimes, but a new one comes out nearly every year and its a huge deal even though literally nothing ever changes but the players. Awesome graphics though
I completely agree, but I was never really one for sports to begin with

I could never understand how MOBAs like League of Legends or Dota became so popular. I personally like games with good story lines/campaigns, but this one escapes me. I think it's rather repetitive. Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool to see new character concepts and designs and all. But it's really lacking that "immersion" factor or overall character development, at least for me.

I feel most MMO are like that, they remove the immersion factor for playability

To each their own, I suppose. I mean, I would slog over a game for hours to see how a story unfolds. I don't really see any incentive for just leveling up characters. I guess, I was just always the type to delve into a narrative while most people would just skip the cut-scene.

I completely agree, but I've actually played an MMO that had quests that were in a sense a story and campaign, it was runescape

Ha ha. I don't mean to lump all the MMOs together. I'm sure there's a lot that stand on their own merit. I've played a few MMORPGs that I've loved. It's just LoL and Dota are the most common examples of games that I couldn't fathom how they easily skyrocketed in popularity. I mean, peers my own age spend hours at the school library playing those types of games so I can't say that I buy into the hype.

Oh man. I hate it when that happens. Can’t take back the texts I wish my phone didn’t autocorrect. Lol. But yeah, I think my older cousin was way into Runescape in his gaming days. I think I tinkered with Adventure Quest at around that time since I was just being introduced to computer games.

Personally, I'm looking foreward to the day skyrim is available on smart refrigerators. : 3

I agree with that Overwatch has nowhere near the amount of content that you would want out of a game at that price&hype. Tf2 is a FREE game and it has much more content that OW. And there are countless <10$ games on steam that are extremely fun. To me Overwatch is just too repetitive. Like the meta is so fucking boring and due to the fact that almost all ingame mechanics other than aiming are dumbed down to a button (rocket jump = button, e.g. Rocket jump in TF2 = look down, crouch at the right time, jump at the right time, shoot the rocket at the time time +etc.) and the only thing you can do is just aim well on like a mcree or something.

Generally, I don’t like opinionated threads like this, but it looks like most of my choices have been said already. But if I were to pick a game that is overrated, it would be the First Generation of Pokémon. Okay, call me a new gamer, but gaming has advanced past the old times where you would just plop the game into the Game Boy and just play with your friends. I find it REALLY sad that there used to be an elitist community base around this generation of Pokémon that does not appreciate the advances of technology nor gaming. They might not be common anymore but just take the time to play a new game...

Destiny. So much hype for something that once released was like...bare bones of a game? There was like nothing to the game at all I felt.

Never really liked the Uncharted series. I tried 2 but found myself bored throughout most of it. I just never really found any of it interesting or fun really.

Also I personally think Zelda: OoT is not nearly as good as MM but that's just me.

CoD (but that might be changing, I'm not sure)
Anything by EA ever is overplayed
I can't think else of anything off the top of my head, but a lot of mobile games are.

Really? I didn't know there were first hen elitists, I mean I've played the new games and honestly they're way more fun than the first ones.

I completely agree, in fact I've played overwatch before and got really bored really quick.

It's fun at first but the terrible RNG and lack of content make it get old fast

I've never played uncharted, but I do love me MM, I even got it on my DS

Honestly I've noticed this in me, I'm slowly becoming less fond of first person shooters, unless it's zombies cuz that never gets old, but literally all first person shooters are the same, aim shoot kill. Doesn't matter the weapon it's all the same
I do like some ea games, mainly their RPGs, but I do love the dead space series, huge fan

You're right, and that's generally true.
I personally love Halo, and Halo has a little bit more variety in it; i.e. some not-on-rails vehicle portions and even space fighter piloting (again, not on rails), but I agree entirely that even Halo can get stale.
(Write down the date, kids; Sano submitted a very minor critique of a fandom he's in on November 30th)

I was mostly poking fun at EA's company policies.
EA is a terrible company.

Ah! Ubisoft is just as bad, but I do love for honor
