Hi guys!

I give you a formal welcome to the rp. I hopw we can really get down to it, and have a lot of fun in the process. What awaits you here, in this world that you know nothing? ... Only time, and me, will tell!

Please odnt hesitate to message me with questions, or simply get to talking and know each other!

Hey ValkyrieRose ValkyrieRose , any chance we could start at level 5 instead of 3? It's not a huge leap in power, but most classes have access to their basic archetype abilities by then, and it's sorta the "default" starting level after the "training" levels of 1-4.

Hmmmmmmm

Well, you make a solid argument and it isn't any skin off my back. Sure, level 5 it is.. Ive only ever started at 1 or 3 myself, so im willing to see how it goes

Super late for me but I wanted to say hi!

Just let me know if I need to change anything on my sheet or if you'd prefer I lay out the sheet on this website instead of uploading it as a PDF.

Hi! I had a quick question... Since you know more about the story you want than I do, would one of these characters fit better with your plans than the other?
Wood Elf Druid (CG) - grew up in isolation, so somewhat mistrustful of strangers; a skilled survivalist; dedicated to the protection of nature
Halfling Ranger (LG or NG) - cheerful and optimistic, eager to learn new things; good at sneaky things, but not necessarily thieving; wants to explore and document the world (Some people run from a demon, I stop and take notes on its anatomy.)

This one. If the Druid is mistrustful of strangers, then it's harder to integrate them in to the party and makes it difficult to work with them.

Roughly a decade of roleplaying experience has shown me you should avoid making "Loners" or other forms of stand alone characters.

That's true, but it tends to be the fault of the player rather than the character. A character can be brooding and solitary as long as the player is still willing to make the effort to get them involved in the party.

That is a good point; it can be tricky to manage, though not impossible. I kinda see it (and in particular for this character) as a personal challenge for them to overcome. They are fearful and distrustful of the others, but find it necessary to work with them regardless, and their perceptions of the rest of the outside world will be shaped by the people they meet. Do they learn that outsiders aren't really so bad after all and can be trusted and explored, or are their suspicions confirmed and they choose to return back to their own 'civilised' society? There's plenty of room for misunderstanding/reconciliation, to challenge/affirm preconceived notions, learn about the good and bad, etc.
So not just a broody "no-one understands me" thing. (x

Good evening everyone. Im on my phone so do forgive any ob ious errors.

Either character is fine. The idda behind this camaign is that any kind of set up works. It will, as stated, be easier to rp as a non loner. If you want to too i have no complaints so long as it works.

Cuffently makinv the items. Im going to wait untjl all are submitted to share though. They are eacb sgrong and i want to balance them si theh are all in so.w way level

Wow, you weren't kidding about typos, haha.

If you want, I can do a quick look over of the magic items for balance purposes. I've been playing and running 5e for a while now, so I have a pretty solid grasp of the mechanics and of what is and isn't overpowered/underpowered.

yay i have internet again. Woke up with issues so you all had to witness my glorious ham handed texting technique.

Alright, now i can begin taking a look at characters. While i might take you up on it if i need it i might just not make them as strong as I was planning for general game balance , but at the same time i want them to be trump cards for everyone. So like, an enemy you couldn't defeat normally, or you are pushed to your limit to use. Of course i can;t have you rely on it solely for everything either. I think fixing this by putting long-ish cool-downs would fix most of that so it;s jsut a matter of actual power balancing.

Hi ho hi ho its off to work i go~

5e is pretty different from most other systems out there and has it's own unique quirks and game design philosophy behind most of it's rules, so I'd encourage you to let me give them a glance over at least, but it's your call, so no worries~

I'll work on a character sometime tomorrow. I think I'll combine elements from the two characters to make a new one.

good evening everyone ! Rose here with your update

Everything is going quite smoothly on my end. tweaking some things here and there. Experimenting with map making software. I wanted to do something fancy and hand make a map using hexographer but its trying my artistic talent (of which i had none to begin with haha)

We are still waiting for the last two to make characters before we can begin. I shan't wait too long, but the good part is both are still talking in chat and active so i know they didn't go disappear or jump off a cliff. That's good. I don't like it when people jump off cliffs.

on the relic front, I have everyone's decided. Ive decided to dim their power at the start but bring them to full power later on, theyll have decently strong but not op stats and as your character grows and overcomes their hardships, youll see what they are truly capable of ^^ isnt that exciting? im talking too much about these things arent i? *cough*

Thats all for now i believe. I will see you all tomorrow. Or if someone messages me. Peace!

ValkyrieRose ValkyrieRose I'm still working on my character, but this is what I have so far, if you'd like to take a look. I'm basically combining elements from both my character ideas into one, as well as tweaking the more loner-ish aspects to be a little more group-friendly. I did have a couple questions I wanted to ask about/clear with you, though.
I chose Circle of the Shepherd for my Druid Circle, from the Guide to Everything. Is that acceptable, or should I change it to one of the two listed in the basic Player Handbook?
I wanted to ask about substitutions for a couple minor Outlander equipment items in light of my character being a Druid. It's fine if you don't want them to be substituted, but I figured I'd ask.
I was wondering how exactly you would want me to determine which beasts this character has seen for the purposes of Beast Shape.
Also, what do you think about my idea for languages? Again, it's not a big deal, but I thought it would be cool.

  • Name: Daimha Caltinn
Class and Level: Lvl 5 Druid
    Background: Outlander - Tribal Nomad
    Race: Wood Elf
    Alignment: CG
Appearance: Slender, about 5’4; pale-copper skin, some tinges of green; brown hair; green eyes

    Personality Traits:
“I feel far more comfortable around animals than people.”
“I’m driven by a wanderlust that led me away from home.”
Ideals: Nature - “The natural world is more important than all the constructs of civilization.”
Bonds: “An injury to the unspoiled wilderness of my home is an injury to me.”
    Flaws:
“There’s no room for caution in a life lived to the fullest.”
“Most people scream and run when they see a demon. I stop and take notes on its anatomy.” (This is actually a Sage personality flaw, but if it’s okay for me to use it regardless, I’d like to. I’m adding an Outlander flaw as well to make up for it, and I think the two actually go well together.)

Alrighty, lets take a look at this.

Circle of the Shepard is fine from the looks of it. You can refund the cost of the hunters trap and add it to your gold total. I don't mind you switching the trophy out as that matters little in the grand scheme of the world.

When it comes to selecting your beast shape it is going to depend on where you lived/ most frequented terrain type before arriving. If you were a traveling druid then what kind of area did you grow up in? That will narrow down what you have and haven't seen. You can have all thee common types you would usually find (birds, common wildlife such as bears, foxes, etc.) Come up with a list and ill give it the once over. Keep it within in the Combat Rating that druids have though.

Alright, I'll do that.

I don't have the Monster Manual, so I don't think I have a list of animals and their ratings (unless they're in the PH; I'll check). But the main terrain around my character's home would be mountainous forests, so probably things like wolves, sheep/goats, deer, birds of prey, etc.? I know a wolf has a CR of 1/4, but I'm not certain about the others.

What did you think of my taking a beast-tongue (like birdsong or canine vocalisations, for example) as my Outlander language? It isn't necessary, but I thought it would be interesting and would make more sense than Dwarvish (which would be my second choice).

that's fine and i don't mind, but can't you understand beasts normally as part of your circle benefits? i thought i saw something to that extent

5E Druid Forms

theres a list of druid animals according to their combat rating. be sure you dont look at the moon circle bit and take from the level requirements of the others. ive made that mistake before.

Ahh, that may be so... I understood it as requiring a specific action to use or something, and so I was thinking that there might be one type of creature that wouldn't require it, though the others would.

Ahh, thank you!

Okay, a couple more questions... (I'm almost done, I promise!) I've never been entirely clear about how spells and stuff work...
One, does my druidic focus replace the material components of spells? So, for example, I could cast Animal Friendship, which requires V, S, M (a morsel of food) as long as my hands and mouth were unimpaired even without a bit of food as long as I had the focus? That's what we would do in our own campaigns (mostly to avoid having to keep track of components), but I wasn't sure how it was actually supposed to work.
Also, about known/prepared spells and spell slots... At Level 5, a Druid knows three cantrips, has 4 Lvl 1 slots, 3 Lvl 2, and 2 Lvl 3. Does this mean that I only know 3 cantrips at all, or can only have three at a time? So, if I choose Shillelagh, Druidcraft, and Thorn Whip now, can I replace Thorn Whip with Goodberry later after an appropriate rest, or do I have to wait until I level up and earn another cantrip? Similar question with higher-level spells. I know I have to have them prepared, but can I choose from any of them to rearrange my list after a rest?

Okay, so looking through the list you gave me, I've come up with a list of several I'd like to be considered. I think they seem reasonable, but you can mark out any you don't care for and I'll choose from the remainder.
Original - Elk, Riding Horse, Panther, Wolf, Black Bear, Giant Goat
Additional (the ones in grey) - Deer, Poisonous Snake

Alright, lets seeee

When it comes to spells i tend not to worry too much about component materials until we get to higher tiered spells anyhow, but according to what i can find, as long as it doesn't have a listed cost (example, a gemstone worth 30 gp) then you can use it for any material related spell (example, a pack of ringworms)

For the cantrip question, i always default it as you only know those three cantrips and can get an additional one at a later point. So you wouldn't be able to switch it out. Thats the way ive seen it done at least.

Your animal list looks good. They are all forest types and within your cr so i see no reason to deny you any oh them ^^

Alright, sounds good! I'll add a few things and be finished for the night, but tomorrow's writing should go more quickly since I don't have to calculate stats and chase book sections and everything. How much are you looking for in regards to personality and bio? Do you just want a quick paragraph or two, or something more?

well, im a sucker for backstory. the more i have the better

which actually reminds me to tell you all... as i just said, im a sucker for backstory. If you guys ever ar ebored and want to write, write stuff about your history! skits, scenes from the past, etc. i usually award xp or you might mysteriously find gold in your pockets... or something. t hats a traidition i picked up from an old gm of mine and i loved exploring my character.

Good... Morning, Everyone! I'm doing today's update now because i've slept on and off all day and i am unsure on if i am going to be passing out soon. Seems like it.

I have been working with the remaining two on their character sheets, one you have seen here, the other through pms. Everything is shaping up and at the pace we should start in.... ehhhhh.... two to three days. Of course now that i've said that a mysterious accident is going to cause some random delay. That's usually how this goes.

I'm looking forward to running this. Dming over forum has some challenges unique to its self, such as it being harder to control and keep immersion, but it is my hope that i am able to describe everything to satisfactions enough to balance that out.

That all said, feel free to ask any questions or talk to me about stuff you like or dont like, either before or during the game. Communication between people is key and if i hit a touchy/ dark spots, I need to know so i can avoid it in the future. I can be a dark person at times and whats aok for me might not be for others... or tlak about stuff you like or found great!

The opening act draws near. Lets get ready to pull the curtains open, shall we?
