My Interest Check
As I've been experimenting on here, finding new RPs and fooling around and such, I've noticed a rather jarring problem: there are lots people here who post completely incomprehensible word salad on a regular basis.

This is not your typical handful of typos/misplaced comma fare. This is entire paragraphs with literally no punctuation. This is grammatical failures that would make a 4th grader cry. This is people misspelling their own character's name in nearly every post.

I know that some pf these people may not be native English speakers, but I would think that people who can barely speak English wouldn't be doing creative writing in English. I certainly don't RP in French, even though I speak quite a bit of it. Besides, I'm worried that some of these people are native English speakers, as some of them claim to be.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Hmm, I see where you are coming from. At times some posts can be rather jarring but to be fair I have made some rather horrific posts myself. Albeit I only study English at an Advanced Higher level (that is what the level is in Scotland, I don't know what it is outside here but its roughly first year of University.). I hope to improve with every post and I am sure others feel the same.

Some people just can't write. It can be jarring, but take a look around any English classroom. There can be huge divides in quality of writing.

new here but i've seen a few of them by lurking around the forums. i like to think their stay here will help improve their language skills (similar to what Mion Mion mentioned)

My mother would turn in college term papers with like one sentence per paragraph. And she is an English speaker. So yeah grammar isn’t a strong suit everyone has.

For me as long as it’s readable I don’t much care how grammatically correct it is.

I mean it could be related to so many things from learning disabilities, literacy, and English not being a primary language that I just let it go.

Not my business what someone’s struggles are.

Now if you would prefer someone write in a more grammatically correct manner in Roleplays there is nothing wrong with requesting that OR making suggestions if you see something that really bothers you.

But for discussions or something I’d just let people write at whatever level they can. If your confused you can always ask for clarification

...I don't know about most, but I feel like basic grammar and punctuation is pretty much required for successful and enjoyable RP. I'm not sitting here demanding that everyone be Charles Dickens (lord knows I'm not), but I'm baffled as to why someone with barely comprehensible English skills would take up writing as a pastime.
Being nearly illiterate while trying to roleplay is like being tone deaf and learning clarinet. It's just... a confusing choice of hobby.
