According to Slavic folklore, the Firebird was a magical bird that brought blessings and doom to its owner, ironically enough it also came from a land far away. It was a magnificent, large bird, that emanated an unholy glow of red, orange, and yellow. If its feathers were removed, it would not extinguish the glow. The human race is the Firebird in our story.
In 2087, the first interplanetary space faring craft was launched from the Vozrozhdeniya Island, commonly known as Rebirth Island. It was a joint project between the United States of America and the Russian Federation, and it was reported both nations' science agencies got along very well. The craft launched into the sky, propelled by not only rocket fuel, but by the hopes and dreams of the world. It landed on Mars over 4 hours later. The launch was considered a success.
3 years later, in June of 2090 the Borgenson-Iyke warp drive was developed at Fermilab, in Batavia, Illinois. Fitted to the craft that landed on Mars three years ago, an announcement was made to the world: Light speed travel was possible. The people of earth could explore new worlds, conquer them, or drain their resources. A launch was announced to take place at the Kennedy Space Center a month later.
The launch went without a hitch, and once the craft entered space it burst into a sprint at the speed of light, the coordinates saved so the drive could jump back to Earth. Once the craft stopped traveling a day later, the crew saw what was never seen before: A lush planet with water and vegetation everywhere. This was reported to NASA, and due to the radio technology being quite primitive, it took over 48 hours for the signal to reach headquarters. Scientists were ecstatic and fearful. Government Officials who witnessed the launch all over the world were relayed the news, and were more on the fearful side. The crew was ordered to report back as officials scrambled all over the world to buy these Borgenson-Lyke drives, as well as developing craft capable of carrying them.
The lush world was conquered one year later, its inhabitants practically enslaved. Like the Firebird, the Human race brought gifts to this world, but also great suffering. Its blaze for progress would never extinguish, its thirst for war was never quenched since humans have existed. Great cities were built, and the inhabitants of earth lived in those cities.
Those cities, months later, were on flame. An insurrection had begun at a nearby mining facility, and the workers grabbed weapons from the arsenal that was there. With anger in their hearts and minds, the workers conquered the nearby city and those humans who had lived there became slaves. News slowly travelled around the planet, but once it reached, within days any weapon that was on the planet was in the hands of the natives, any vehicle that remained on the world was driven, and any human who was on the planet was either killed or became slaves.
Although radio communication had improved since the launch 3 years prior, the reports of the insurrection was still quite slow to travel to Earth. However, once it was heard, the Earth prepared for war. The United Nations called an emergency meeting, and at once, the nations militaries prepared their troops for conflict. A large cruiser, called the UN-Illustrious, was quickly loaded with vehicles, firearms, bullets, everything the world had military wise, was onboard the cruiser. With that, husbands bid goodbye to their wives, and wives to their husbands. The cruiser blasted off to bring terror and fury, but no blessings.
