what are some of the most unique magics you've seen. What are some of the most unique ways you've seen generic magic used?

I'm a little confused on what your asking. Are you asking which version of powers is better or are you wanting people to offer ideas for powers based on the two scenarios above ?

Offering their favorite magic that would fall under those guidelines

Lol you might want to change the title in all honesty so people aren't confused on what your after. Like need help with character powers or something

Well if it had been that no one would've showed up :)

plenty of people ask for help with their Roleplays and characters on this forum ( it's kind of the whole point of this forum )

And while people have certainly shown up to this thread you'll notice none of us have answered your actual question instead we've requested clarification of the content.

The point of a title is yes to get people to click on it but also to tell them what the actual question is. So therefore your going to get more honest help than people be like - but I don't get it.

Now as to the question itself some clarification on the type of powers your looking for, is there any specific rules to how powers work in the roleplay universe?

Like is it only Elemental based? Is it done via spells? Can it be used for things like charms or potions or whatever?

I must say, I hate it when people just say their character has "powers" it sounds like something out of a Disney movie.

I don't derail your topics, so please do me the same courtesy. Thank you.

Um nothing is specified about the way it's done I'm assuming some sort of chi based on what's been said. Pretty much all magic is from within. The types of magic is pretty versatile.. divinity, elemental, energy manipulation... list goes on and on, most things havent even been discussed.

Okay so this is an estabilished roleplay? Are there characters that you can reference for examples on what kind of powers to use?

Sorry I know I"m not being especially helpful but the information provided isn't really all that specific so I can't really offer you any definitive tips.

Well forget the specifics for a moment what are some of the most unique magics you've seen. What are some of the most unique ways you've seen generic magic used?

So I'm confused you just want to talk about people's favorite types of magics? Or do you want people to help figure out powers for your characters using the rules above.

Because the questions are kind of going back and forth. And with those rules in place above I assumed you wanted powers based on said rules in which case that was why I was asking for clarification because based on what is said in the OP post I don't really have enough information to give you any meaningful advice.

If you just want to know what kind of unique magics I've seen OR the most unique ways I've seen magic used that is a different question entirely and doesn't really fit in with the rules on the first page.

-----------------------------------

To answer the latter two questions ( the ones about unique magics i've seen )

Shifters that turn by triggers. I.e. - they turn from human to animal or animal to human when they are caught in rain or when they sneeze.

That is by far the most unique version of shifting magic I've ever seen.

I've also seen
- charms that are literally cooked into food stuffs ( i.e. a pie that when you eat it makes you happy or the like )
- magic that runs on the ability to sense specific energy frequencies and gives you brain lesions every time you use it
- magic that allows you to build a sentient house
- magic that allows you to control the ambiance of a room / the emotions of people by moving furniture
- children that are possessed by immortal elemental forces that come out when they lose consciousness

Huh that is pretty unique... Never seen magic like that although at the same time I'm not sure how it would be useful to a roleplay but again that wasnt the question.

The shifters actually had quite a few roleplays chronicling their stories on other sites. Never could get the momentum on this one but the magic made for some fun plots.

There was the - shifters must travel to XX place to see about getting a cure for their magic. Trigger Shifters vs. Regular Shifters. Magic Pet Shop. And a few times the shifters were side characters in magic school type settings.

Not all magic has to necessarily be useful as well. Some magic is just a part of the character, like having freckles or a lisp. And typically speaking the more unique abilities are ones that are not given to the character to provide any kind of advantage or disadvantage. They're more humorous quirks.

So if your looking to give your character a unique ability than don't think in terms of how this ability could be useful or how it could benefit your character. Think in terms of - hey what would be a funny thing that could happen to my character because of magic?

Like to use a kind of generic magic
- A character whose spells must always be said to the tune of a popular ballad
- A character who can only tell prophecies backward
- A character whose ability is tied to a specific day of the week

Or if we're going with like elemental based abilities
- Fire magic that only works if you are feeling a specific emotion / changes colors based on emotions
- Fire magic that only burns those the user perceives as wicked *
- Wind magic that causes the character to float away any time they feel a happy emotion
- Water magic that manifests in bubbles that are hiccuped out of the users mouth
- Earth Magic - that allows user to fuse random objects into trees thus turning them into sentient creatures *

* so these are both quirky and useful. so it's possible to be both.
