Giles Trial

Giles, understandably vexed, decides to turn left and see if there's any sign of an exit that he may be able to use as his eidolon follows to keep the summoner safe.

You travel along the passage (North) for about six strides(30 feet) before coming up to the opening on the right. Looking ahead of you and checking your map, you get the feeling the T-intersection ahead is the same passage you already walked down.

A small feeling of satisfaction washes over you as your map is a little more complete.

If you look down the new passage you'll see it extend for about four strides(20 feet) before turning to the left(North).

Giles, glad that his map was slightly more complete so he could eventually figure out where the exit was, kept advancing down the new passage, trying to find the exit.

As you head down the passage, seeing it extend ahead(North) for about five strides then turning left(West). Before turning, you check you map and guess that this left will probably take you back to the passage that you just exited.

"They could have at least put a sign up to help. But no, confusing maze and no straightforward exit." A thought crossed his mind about burning the place to the ground, but the place was made of stone. Giles continued advancing down the passage to at least check to make sure he was doubling back.

You step into the passage and confirm that you did indeed make it back into the passage, effectively making a giant U shape.

To the right(north) two strides(ten feet) you see the T-intersection that you are more confident you've been done before. The image of a flaming centipede comes to mind.

But checking your map you notice the passage that led to the centipedes did not end at the door, but continued past(west) about four strides(20 ft) before a passage opened to the left(North) and about two strides(10 ft) past that it turns to the right(South).

Studying your map you notice there are a few other unexplored sections on the other side of the centipede room and by the scorpion room. Not to mention the passages that led away from the first room.

Giles, retracing his steps, heads towards the Centipede room to figure out what he didn't find in that direction, mumbling all the way.

Standing by the door that leads to the centipede room you can see the passage continues for about four strides(20 ft) ahead(west) before turning to the left(North) and about about two strides, you think as it fades into shadows and turns to the right(South).

You walk down the passage and look to the left(North), two strides(ten feet) you see an iron door as well as the passage turning to the left(West). Ahead(east) you can see the passage turns to the right(South).

(Ignore the locks, they do not exist)

Sighing with temporary relief, Giles decides to inspect the door and, assuming he doesn't find any traps, open it.

Perception check: Roll(1d20)+5: 20,+5 Total:25 (He sees the shit out of that door)

Your careful and thorough inspection of the door assures you there are no traps, and given your dealings with them so far you are feeling very confident about it.

Noting the latch and pull ring you lift and pull, only to feel more resistance then there should be. Even for a heavy iron door.

It's stuck. You hear run through the back of your mind. And you are inclined to agree with, the door is not trapped or locked, just stuck.

Mumbling to himself, Giles uncorks one of his flasks of acid and pours the corrosive substance on the door's hinges, backing off in case the door starts falling.

The corrosive fluid starts sizzling and hissing as it eats through the hinges and part of the door.

Soon enough the hinges are just a smoking puddle on the stone floor, which is quickly turning to a smoking puddle as well. The door does lean out awkwardly, only being supported by the locking mechanism.

Making sure to keep his distance in case the door falls, Giles pours another flask into the locking mechanism while hugging the wall to avoid the door if it falls before he can get clear.

After a moment the hinge succumbs to the acidic onslaught, joining the two other molten puddles on the stone floor. With a quiet groan the door slowly falls out into the passage, it's echoes bouncing off the walls for quite some time.

Once the dust settles you see a room that seems quite small, only about two strides across (ten feet east & west) and about three-ish strides long (15 feet north). The far wall is collapsed, which might explain why the room seems small.

Sitting on the rubble, you see a grinder with a stone wheel, like that used to sharpen tools. Next to it are a lantern and a bellows. Something else might be in the room, but all you can see for certain is the glint reflecting off of the hooded lantern.

Giles, irritated that he wasted acid on opening this room began to search around and see if there was anything interesting or worthwhile he could dig up.

Perception roll: Roll(1d20)+5: 5,+5 Total:10

As you step in and look around you see right away the head of what looks like the same type of shiny gold statue you already picked up. It is reflecting on the glass of the lantern. Taking a closer look you can see some sort of inscription on the side of the handle.
That looks interesting.

Giles, now mildly curious instead of annoyed, began to try and figure out what the inscription said and trying to pull it closer to get a better look.

Sitting next to the lantern is indeed a small shiny statue, identical to the other. As you look closer at the inscription you see a light flowing elvish calligraphy script: irma haeannon.

Giles' face scruched in confusion. "Irma haeannon? It had better lead out of here." He truly hoped that it was a voice activated thing, as he didn't know how to cast that particular spell. He was also fairly certain that his light spell was about to expire.

As you finish your thought your light she'll does indeed extinguish...

However there is a brilliant flash of light and a bright white doorway opens before you. You can hear muffled voices and, is that roast beef you smell?

Do you pass through it?

Or do you sit in the dark?

Finally seeing the exit and dismissing his eidolon for the time being, Giles steps through the doorway, glad that he finally found an exit.
