Alethea

The kingdom of Alethea was once a prosperous kingdom located between the kingdoms of Rose and Bathelon. During the final battle of the demon raids, Alethea was so savagely attacked by demonic beasts that the Wilting Rose wizards who sought to save it were forced to abandon it. The demons were trapped inside of it and the city was brought to the clouds. There it has remained over the last centuries. In Alethea, it always appears to be nighttime. This is due to the overflow of demonic energy trapped in its atmosphere. The energy has also influenced the environment of Alethea, producing dense jungles filled with rabid wild animals. The ruins of Alethea cities are still standing, but demons have claimed the land as their home. In addition to animals and demons trapped in Alethea it is also possible that some humans were left inside of what became known as the Umbra Carcerem, The Shadow Prison.

The Lost People of Alethea

Following the demon raids of Alethea, the kingdom was sealed away. Despite great efforts to evacuate the kingdom there were inevitably humans left to fend for themselves in The Umbra Carcerem. The Lost People of Alethea are the descendants of the few who learned to survive and coexist with the demonic entities who also reside there.

The Prisoners of The Umbra Carcerem

The attack on the Kingdom of Alethea was the last and most devastating of the Demon Raids. The kingdom was attacked by demons and malicious spirits so powerful the Wilting Rose was left with no choice but to abandon it. The Wilting rose performed a massive enchantment on the kingdom, which trapped the malicious entities inside. The demons of The Umbra Carcerem were left to fester and reproduce in their prison. They have constructed their own society here, and are hungry to escape and wreak havoc on the world.

Bathelon

Bathelon recently suffered a devastating plague, but it is now returning to the prosperous kingdom it once was. Its governing body forms a democratic monarchy, and prominent merchants are known for ascending quickly into top political ranks. However, nothing is determined by bloodline here, not even the current monarch; it is based on votes and evidence.Typically, the wealthiest of merchants are voted in. This is a cultural philosophy stemming from the belief that a skilled merchant must be good at handling money, must be a skilled and shrewd negotiator for goods, trade routes, relations, and everything else necessary for a qualified leader.

In lieu of the above qualities, Bathelon has managed to worm its way around allegiances and foes to trade with many kingdoms, even ones that consider themselves an enemy to another included in Bathelon’s extensive trading networks. It’s also one of the least corrupt economies because the markets are regulated by the best detectives in the kingdom.

The Order of the Raven

When the surrounding kingdoms of Bathelon noticed a spike in demonic activity, a monster-hunting guild began furiously training to combat the threat. Bathelon was one of the last kingdoms to face the wrath of the demon raids, and because the Order had long prepared for such an event, the threat was largely averted. Following the demon raids, the Order was disbanded. Over the years there have been numerous attempts to rebuild the Order, but these attempts to resurface were largely unsuccessful until Bathelon suffered a plague. This gave the Order opportunity to organize itself. By the time King Lance returned with the cure, the Order’s new leader was plotting to overthrow all of Bathelon for his own gain, joining up with The Resistance to do so.

Rose

The Rose Kingdom is a highly independent nation located in central Morganna. It is isolated from other kingdoms by a rugged mountain range encircling the kingdom. This kingdom is known for its rambunctious, highland culture and small mountain villages. Presently, it is on good terms with its Yunakai and Bathelon neighbors. The legalization of magic is slowly being phased into law.

The Emerald Thorns

The Emerald Thorns are the highest ranking branch of the Rose Military. This branch is composed of highly skilled sorcerers. Unlike all other branches of the Rose Military, these powerful knights were trained in combat and spell casting before the legalization of magic.

The Resistance

Following centuries of oppression from the monarchies, the resistance was formed by a band of witches and warlocks who sought to overthrow their oppressors. Witchcraft was illegal in the Rose Kingdom until the recent Rose-Yunakai War, and the penalty for such crimes was often death. Witch hunts were common in the kingdom, and now the victims seek revenge against the ruling class. Members of the resistance would like to see all ruling monarchies overthrown and replaced with their own leadership. The resistance was born in the Rose Kingdom, but its influence is quickly spreading across all kingdoms and posing a dangerous threat to the monarchies.

The Wilting Rose

Founded during the Demon raids, the Group that would become the Wilting Rose were called the ‘Roseacae Inquisition’. It was meant to be the solution to the Demon problem hailing the three Kingdoms, but the Roselands in particular. Using Demon-hunting tactics on a massive scale, combined with military discipline and equipment, The Inquisition managed to quickly rally the people behind them, and fight back against the Demonic hordes, under the goal: ‘We will stop the Demon raids, We will find those responsible, and we will restore order, with or without anyone’s approval’.

Despite numerous successes and victories during the Raids, the Inquisition, once the three kingdoms had re-strengthen their grasp, had been used as a form of a ‘scapegoat’, with many calling the group violent extremists and vigilantees. Thus, many Important members of the group left. However, the Three founders of the organization, all high-ranking members in the Rose Military, left with their forces towards the Fortress City of Valpurina, but not before destroying any record of it’s existence. Many believe the Modern Day Wilting Rose is little more than a guild of glorified killers, but the irony of the situation is that they’re the exact opposite.

Using their natural hunting training, and militarized tactics, the Wilting Rose have divided into four segments: The Council of Thorns, which is their governing body The Wilting Rose Assassins, which is the most common form of their people, The Eldritch Knights ,which is their primary military, and the College of Valpurina, which is the more magically inclined group of the city.

Yunakai

The Yunakai Kingdom is a prominent kingdom located in the southern, coastal region of Morganna. Yunakai is characterized by its progressive way of life because magic has been embraced by its ruling bodies rather than outlawed. Thus, historically the kingdom has remained the most powerful of the land, but it was recently sent into political chaos following the assassination of the royal family by the resistance. During the months following the assassination, the resistance was able to seize control of the southern peninsulas of the Yunakai leaving the kingdom divided. South Yunakai is now resistance territory, but at last the closest heir to the throne has been found.

The Yunakai Royal Forces

The Yunakai Royal Forces is any branch of the famed Yunakai military. This military is well trained in combat magic, and most knights will do anything to protect the Yunakai throne.

The Azarus Regime

During the beginning of the rule of Queen Kuvira, there were some that opposed her regime, but none so prolific as the Azarus House. At the time, the House’s head was Sotha Sil Azarus. He became an outspoken opponent to Kuvira’s regime, humiliating the royal family at every turn, and always turning their mistakes to his clan's opportunity. This resulted in Queen Kuvira calling for the execution of the entire Azarus clan. After the questionable actions of the Yunakai Royal family, some have adopted the belief that the last remaining Azarus, Yaro, is the rightful heir to the throne. Supporters of the Azarus clan are said to make up the newly founded Azarus Regime of South Yunakai.

The Kingdom of Syndaria

Knowledge. Knowledge is power.

This speaks true for many, but none more so than to those dwelling in the Kingdom of Syndaria, a Civilization untouched by the outside world. Reports tell of spiraling cities made from crystal and ice, creatures thought long to be extinct, and a people of pale skin, glowing eyes, and light colored hair. These people were the Syndarians, the remnants of an era long lost to time.

Encompassing the Great Lake, the Twin Forests, and the Mountain wall connecting to the seas, The Kingdom of Syndaria was almost completely untouched by the raids. With the demonic forces focused on the Rose Kingdom, Yunakai, and Bathelon, Syndaria managed to stay completely out of the Raids, or as they refer it, the Eastern Incident This has allowed them to advance as a society, unhindered by the rampages in the east. It is because of this that they have managed to expand to their great size.

Here, knowledge is prized and valued, a gift and a necessity. It is by this common gift, so often taken for granted, this jewel that many hunt for, that kingdoms can grow and prosper. Their main values are Order, Prosperity, and Intellect. They wish to grow, to achieve the dream that the Conqueror Morganna once hoped to achieve- Unite the entire land under one banner, one flag, one nation. They wish to see chaos stamped out and broken. Laws and policies in the land are harshly enforced, and those that break them suffer capitol punishment as a result.

Despite the harshness of the land, many creatures and people that once roamed the nations now reside here, willing to exchange their freedoms for safety, as most have been driven out of their homes and to near extinction. They were granted sanctuary in the lands of Syndaria, in exchange for anything they could contribute to the Kingdom itself. As such, many cultural artifacts to various races could be discovered here, preserved and guarded by the remnants of their civilizations, such as elven clans, goblin tribes, and Harpy flocks. Some say that there are even dragons, guarded from their near extinction by these agents of order.

History of the kingdom stretches far, and much of it is legend and theory- It is claimed that thirty families were forced out by the Rose Kingdom to begin a new settlement in the frozen land, due to a famine. The Journey was treacherous, the land was harsh, and many did not survive the trip. Records are sketchy afterwards, but out of the thirty families that went there, only fifteen survived. How is normally up for interpretation- It is claimed a female arrived to the young settlement, offering aid and knowledge, for nothing in exchange. Legends say she was the daughter of the god Cassiel, Sent to aid them in their time of need Either way, her arrival marked the beginning of a new day for these weary settlers.

This woman, whose name is lost to time, taught them how to irrigate their crops, the art of fishing, and machine-working. A year after her arrival, she gave birth to daughter who would later become the first Queen of the land- Syndaria Idylis. She was born with hair as white as the snow on the ground, thus causing many to believe that she was blessed by the gods. When she grew of age, under her mothers careful tutelage, she began increasing the number of villages and settlements until, in her 40th year, she declared herself Queen, and seceded her lands from the Rose Kingdom.

This lead to a short, but bloody war- The Rose Kingdom was not prepared to deal with the harshness of winter in Syndaria and the Fledgling Kingdom of Syndaria was not able to breach the Rose Kingdom's mountainous shield walls. Losses on both sides were devastating, the war resulting in a stalemate. For years, tensions would remain high between the Kingdoms of Syndaria, who believed that the Rose Kingdom had left them to die, and the Rose Kingdom, who believed that the Kingdom of Syndaria was rightfully their land.

When the raids began, The Kingdom of Syndaria refused to aid the afflicted kingdoms, instead opting to reinforce their own borders and take in those displaced by the battles. However, in a sudden change of heart, after the raids had ended, The Kingdom of Syndaria began a massive relief effort to the afflicted nations. Due to their abundance of resources, and that they had avoided the worst of the war, they were able to help the three kingdoms during their trying times. This marked the beginning of a turn in the relationship between the Rose Kingdom and the Kingdom of Syndaria.

Today, long after the conflict has passed, the Rose Kingdom and the Kingdom of Syndaria are claimed to be stalwart allies. The Syndarian's also maintains strong trade with the Kingdom of Bathelon, trading gold and valuable gems in exchange for things they cannot grow in the land, along with any historical and cultural piece they can obtain. Now, after the horrors of the Rat Plague, they offer materials and food for rebuilding.

Though it has not faced the rebellion that the Resistance has begun, they remain vocal opponents of them and have offered the Rose Kingdom full support in crushing the insurrection. They've also been hostile opponents to the Lanun, who they view as unruly thugs and criminals. Thankfully, due to the mountainous walls between them, the Syndarian's are well protected what they view as thieving pirate scum. There have been three separate attempts to conquer the Islands, and though they've come close on occasion, they were inevitably forced to pull back.

Magic, in the Kingdom of Syndaria, is legal, though it is claimed that this is for religious purposes- Many believe in the legends that the blood of Cassiel runs through the Idylis blood-line. If they were to reject magic, they'd be rejecting their gods greatest gift. However, the most controversial act that leaves many at unease with them is what they do with their dead.

In the Kingdom of Syndaria, Mages called the Mortalitasi, who wield considerable political power and influence in Syndaria, use the mummified dead to create an army that is loyal, powerful, and numerous. Preserved in what is called the 'Grand Necropolis', the city which the elite of Syndaria's military are buried. Having a history with having little to nothing to survive with, it is of little surprise that Syndaria makes the most use out any resource they have available. Taking the bodies of the dead, they mummify them, preserving the bodies of these soldiers so that, one day, these individuals will eventually serve in the 'Fallen Army' , serving the kingdom in life and in death. It is considered by many in Syndaria as a great honor, though out it is considered a barbaric practice.

The Kingdom of Syndaria has maintained cool, if tense relations, with Yunakai. Their abuse of Dragon's and Magic has been seen as an affront to the Gods. They have chosen not to aid them during their civil conflict, opting to aid the Rose Kingdom, it in mourning after the death of the Fiancee to the King. Rumors have begun to circulate if this will be the age when the Two Kingdoms, long divided by centuries of history, will finally reunite.
