Nation Building On the Verge of a Great War: OOC Chat

Hey Shepard Shepard , so do you own Canada now? I want Canada.
Canada is currently in the grey area just before it became a dominion (mostly indpeendent). If you were to choose Canada, then we'll just establish that you are close to the U.K. and should RP accordingly unless significant efforts are made to derail that

Well, derail that I will, but U.K. starting unrealistically with as many colonies as they have, and espically colonies composed of independent governments, doesn't seem realistic in the first place. Hold Canada for me, don't let anyone take it, iv claimed.

Sorry CabalAnomicPotato CabalAnomicPotato , I don't want to drag this into an argument but nearly/all of Shepard Shepard 's colonies are accurate. The UK did own something like a quarter of the world, so while people might play as some of them and become dominions or break of that's how they start it. On every map I've seen, Canada is shaded in the same color as India, Australia, etc.

Hope this helps, I don't want to start anything.

During this timeframe the U.K. owned most of their colonies in africa and asia, not Canada and Australia. Also they wouldn't have the military to hold these Australian and Canadian colonies.if this starts in 1912, then taking into consideration the fact that when ww1 started (in 1914), 80% of the U.K's military was volunteer, before then their actual military only 20% (give or take) of their military in ww1. Now, looking into the history books, it if apparent that they were able to pull it off, I saw it, but it would be easy for most of these colonies to break away, not to mention the dominions.

so are we still doing this? Just wanted to ask since it's been awhile since anyone's posted anything new.

Yes. The RP starts as soon as you finish your CS. Instead of waiting for 10 people to do CS', anyone who finishes their CS can post their turn and I'll moderate it ASAP. All other countries will do as they do historically until someone takes that nation.

I'll finish mine soon.

Does anyone know a website that has the statistics/types for land armies and aircraft? I can find just about everything else, even the specific guns they used, but not things like tanks.

Look around at various sights. Also looking up tanks in general, there's a list on Wikipedia, the name of the owner beside them.

There's nothing I can find for your numbers but you can start with either volunteer(1.5%), limited conscription(3.0%), or extensive conscription(4.5%) so long as there's some reason or backstory to it. In terms of tanks (I don't believe the Japanese ever built any), you'll need to research prototypes first and we'll delve more into that as we go along in the RP. Right now, it looks like your historical tanks don't come into the picture until the 1920s unless - through IC RP - you get some assistance.

For everyone, there IS the ability to research and develop most anything logical to the RP. However, there is also a PENALTY based on the time before the object was created.

Explain these penalties.

Explain these penalties.
Research and development is a two part system.

The first part is passive R&D. If a certain pattern uniform is invented in April, 1912, then you can wait until it is April and you can just have the uniform without researching it in one of three slots.

The second part is ahead-of-time research. Using the uniform example that would take - for example - 50 days to research, do this:

# of days before object invented = 478

# of days object would take = 50

478+50=528

#/1 year to equal number of years ahead of time

528/365=1.45

# of days times years ahead of time

50*1.45=72.5 days

Also, depending on how many people we have with active CS', we may limit each turn to one month so as to not screw over new comers or people still working on their CS

For the sake of standardization and ease of reference, anything from the HOI IV series can and will be used

Sadly I never played it. Glad there's a wiki that looks confusing but is actually organized well.
I'm working on the Mechanics spoiler to simplify and centralize everything. Also, nothing extra is required per se. It's honestly just the system I use to make Fair moderations of everyone's turn. This is my way of showing you all how things will be moderated instead of me going on a whim about what seems good and what doesn't.

Would anyone be interested in making a side-thread for naval war gaming or even land war gaming while the last Mechanics get worked out?
