Dear future student,

Yours sincerely,

Deputy Headmistress
Bring back what we've forgot,
Setting

The year is 1989, eight years after the end of The First Wizarding War and two years before Harry even learns he's a wizard. Though a scarcely acknowledged fear of you-know-who still lingers in the air, the wizard world is operating mostly as normal. Perhaps you are a new first year student, entering Hogwarts with the likes of Fred and George Weasley, Cedric Diggory, and Angelina Johnson. Or, maybe you are soon graduating alongside Bill Weasley, studying vigorously (or not) for your N.E.W.T.s. Either way, you've found your way to Hogwarts and are welcome. Now please, make your way to platform nine and three quarters.

Plot
This is a Harry Potter universe role play, without the Harry Potter. The events of Harry's life, as depicted in the books, have not all occurred yet. This RP will be focused mostly on life at Hogwarts as the students come of age and attend their classes while trying to keep out of trouble. There will be certain plot points (such as feasts, trips to Hogsmeade, and Quidditch matches) to push character development and interaction. OCs, especially first years (please refer to next tab), would be wonderful, but canon characters are most welcome too. Drama between characters (romance, rivalries, etc.) is highly encouraged.
Just do your best, we'll do the rest,

Guidelines & Rules

1. All first years will be sorted upon arrival at Hogwarts, as per the Sorting Ceremony. (This means that canon characters will be sorted into their respective houses, but OCs are at the mercy of the Sorting Hat.)
2. If you've joined our RP after we've done sorting for the year, you can join as an older year (2-7) or part of the staff. All canon teachers are in place, but I will allow OC assistant professors in each subject who can teach the lower years (1-3) under the supervision of the canon teacher.
3. You are allowed 3 characters in total. They may be whatever year you like, or even a teacher, as long as they follow the above rules.
4. This will be a detailed and (I'm hoping) long-term RP. While quality is more important than quantity, in the interest of substance I am expecting at least a full paragraph (6 sentences or more) per post, at least once or twice a week. Please let us know if you'll be inactive for a while, in advance!
5. Let's all be polite to each other and work together to have a good time.
6. I'm sure you know the usual rules by now, but just in case: no GMing, Mary Sues, or controlling/harming other people's characters without consent. etc..
7. Less of a rule and more of a suggestion, but the group discord can be found here: https://discord.gg/k3k67hT. You are not required to join at all, but it's a handy tool for communication.

And learn until our brains all rot.

Hm. I don't believe I've seen you here before. I don't know you. First year, then?

[He looks you up and down before giving you a knowing smile to ease your apparent nervousness.]

It's alright, I get it. My little brothers are first years too. George and Fred Weasley. Little troublemakers, they are. Maybe you'll meet them on the train. But on second thought, it's probably better that you don't.

[He laughs.]

Here, let me help you with your bags. Don't worry, they'll be sent up to your room when we get there. Now, when you get off, you'll be looking for Hagrid. He's a big guy, you won't be able to miss him. He'll take you on the boats to the Great Hall, where you'll get sorted.

What? Yeah, sorted. You know, into one of the four houses. You don't know? Blimey, well. There are four houses. Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor - that's the one I'm in - and Slytherin. You'll probably want to stay away from that last lot. Huh? Oh, no, you don't get to pick. The Hat will, at the ceremony.

[The train's whistle blows sharply, a final warning to all intending to get to Hogwarts.]

There's probably still room in one of the compartments of this car right right here. In you go. Chin up, you'll be fine. Just remember to stay as far away from Peeves as you can. What's that? Nevermind, you'll figure it out for yourself. Good luck, and welcome to Hogwarts
.

The Great Hall

The sounds of joyful reunions and cordial chit chat fill your ears as you step into the Great Hall. You stare in awe, trying to mentally capture the magnificent beauty of the sight before you. The many suspended candles give everything a soft glow, as if inviting you in to where you know you belong. Their light reflects off the plates and silverware, causing your mouth to water at the thought of the feast ahead of you.

As you shuffle in with your fellow students, you notice a spot at your house's table near your friends. Lucky, you think, as you hurry over to secure the spot. You wave excitedly at them, and they return the greeting with matched enthusiasm. You take your place among your peers with joy, eager for the new year to begin.

Finally, you are home.

"It was hard to believe there was a ceiling there at all, and that the Great Hall didn't simply open on to the heaven."

Ah cool, coding is not mandatory. I like Coding.... but never practiced the stuff enough before the updates and now change back. So I'm basically a copy and paste type of coder. TBH.

Got a idea for character..... Incomplete though and no idea of whom to use for Fc if I use a image.

Intrigued by the sorting aspect in this Rp.

I've spent a ridiculous amount of the last 48 hours figuring out how to code things, for this RP. I can understand your hesitation, it can get really frustrating! I will note, though, that there are people in the bbcode section of this site that offer their codes for others to use! No hassle besides putting in your own information. :)

I would be open to realistic illustrations as well, if you can't find a suitable FC.

I'm also excited about the sorting! Should be fun!

Yeah, i recall some failed practice sessions on one occasion or two, failed and frustrating times. Really? Wow, didn't know that about the BB code section, though I don't frequent the section either. But still. Cool though. I'll go and check it out before my guy is posted. Thanks!

I'll likely use one, just the age range adds some difficulty as I've not done a realistic character that age in some time or a character that age at all in some time. But sounds cool, I'll keep a eye out for a fc though, but cool new stuff on the Rl illustration form.

It's basic and still needs some history, persona details. But got him posted. Attempted some code but couldn't edit the issues, so for now atleast I'll leave plain.

What level of canon-icity is there?

For example, if I made a student that was the nephew of a teacher or something like that, would that fly?

Hmm. Depends on which teacher. Nephew of Dumbledore? Probbbbably not. Nephew of Professor Sprout? Certainly! I'm willing to bend the rules of canon for the sake of interest, but only if it isn't anything too crazy. :)

Hi! If I were to create a teacher, what available classes are there to teach?

Any class you want! Preferably one of the classes the first years have to take, but if it's within reason I'd give a new subject a whirl as an elective. Then it would be up to the RPers to sign their characters up in it (Though I imagine if someone is RPing as the teacher that would attract students!)

Will you decide the homework and then the teacher passes that along/instructs the class? I'm debating Defense Against Dark Arts or Potions, not sure how canon will play into this (since Snape eventually takes Potions and DADA teachers usually gets replaced annually lol) avira avira

Another note on teachers: I'd be cool with a teacher teaching a main subject AND an elective. e.g. Herbology and flower arranging or something. Lux___Wolf Lux___Wolf

If someone decides to teach one of the core classes, they are absolutely welcome to decide on the homework on their own. If they don't want to, I can figure some stuff out and pass it along for the teacher to do with as they will.

I believe I said this somewhere else (maybe I should make a compilation of all the thoughts on teachers I've had), but I am open to OC teachers as long as we are of the understanding that they would operate under the original teacher of that subject. For example, if someone wanted to make an OC herbology teacher, they would be considered an associate professor or something, under Sprout. I'd prefer OC teachers to mainly focus on first years, as well! So, in your example, Snape would focus on years 3+, your OC might focus on year 1 and 2 students.

Who would be official DADA and Potions teachers?

I should probably work on a list of professors and what they teach, but at the time of this RP Snape is the potions professor. I don't believe we canonically know who the DAtDA teacher was then (cause dumb curse), so if you'd like I'd allow you to do an OC, arriving at Hogwarts for his first year as DAtDA teacher!

I'm thinking a ghost and mother (former Slytherin who died there under ironic circumstances) of an OC first year son who thought he would grow up without her. I'll take DADA!

I love how you've done this and how in-depth it is, it looks great! I may be another student in addition to my first year but I'll figure that out later.

Just so everyone knows, I'm planning on starting this in about a week. I know some of you have submitted characters already, but for those of you that haven't, please consider that your deadline.

Feel free to ask any and all questions you may have here or in PMs.

Mischief managed!

Edit: Tagging @Volupe, in case you didn't see this yet. :)
