Other Gender questions

You haven't had problems until you've had a positioning issue while doing rising trot on a horse.

I... Well, that hasn't happened to me, but I saw it happen to someone else.
They were out in a field, clutching their balls for the rest of the day. Poor sod.

Am I the only one who won't ever be sold on this new-age "gender revolution" movement stuff?

It's probably a late millennial thing. While I hate to get knee deep into politics I think it best if people were passive about it as they have been before it became a "movement."

The more genders and sexualities you consider, the more confused you will be.

I agree. Stick to two genders, it has worked all this time so why make things more complicated now?

The only problem is that it hasn't worked all this time, people have just been ignoring the problem for years up until now. The idea of different genders has existed since ancient civilizations, and a short google will show you that it is not a late millennial thing. The Stonewall Inn is a great example of just how far back the idea of transgenderism goes in America, as it opened in 1967 and was popular among drag queens and transgender people.

Being passive about everything would be ignoring the oppression that transgender & people of gender variety face, so no that would not be the best course of action. That's like going back to the 1860's and saying it'd be best if people were passive about racism and slavery.

It's nothing like that, though. They're on two entirely different levels.
In today's age it would be possible to argue that transphobia and slavery aren't on the same level with each other. However, that wasn't the comparison I was making. In the 1860's it would be very likely for someone to say that they wished society would just go back to being passive about slavery and racism, where seemingly no one had any problems with what was happening.

The problem with passivity is that it doesn't solve any problems. What it does do is allow people to happily pretend like everything is fine and merrily go about their lives without any conflict.

I suggest that you don't rush to label yourself. I get what it's like to be confused about yourself- trust me, I do. But I think if you're confused now, trying to label yourself isn't going to help.
Just be you, don't rush yourself into it and eventually you'll figure out what you want and who you are.
At least, that's how I've found it.

I'm gonna say there's definitely an attitude in some places these days of "it's more interesting to be transgender"/"cisgender people are boring and bigoted". Coupled with the idea that "if you're not 100% feminine or masculine then you are probably trans". Combine that with not-being-trans being associated with bad things, and you get a surprising number of people calling themselves demigirls or agendered or whatever.

I mean, I'm not going to argue with people over their personal identities, mainly because I don't care what they want to call themselves. But if they're wearing a dress, with makeup and long hair, and start flipping out because I refer to them as "ma'am", then that's kind of silly. Nobody's psychic. If someone wants to look feminine but are repulsed by being called a woman, then they have to decide what's more important out of those two. So either dress less feminine, or have the confidence to correct people/ask them not to call them that without flipping out or having a complete breakdown. Which I'm only saying because yep, I've seen people online bitching about how they Experienced Transphobia™ because some stranger innocently called them the wrong thing.
Particularly for those who are non-binary: 99.99% of the world is male or female, pretty much. It doesn't occur to people to see someone and think "they must be neither/both/whatever". Not a conscious decision, just how the world works. So they'll instinctively pick one and go for it.

Again, ain't arguing with someone if they tell me they're male or female or whatever, that's their deal, I just want to get on with my day. Especially online, when you're not face to face, so instead of the visual cues you have profile descriptors or whatever, and that's how you think of them. Doesn't matter what they look like because you don't know. But yeah, offline it's not that easy.

Guess this is a roundabout way of saying "do whatever", but also don't feel like it's bad, boring, weak or bigoted to be cisgender/not trans. Because it's not, no more than it's bad to be transgender. They're both just things, though one of them has extra medication and therapy.
Back about ten years ago everyone was claiming to be bisexual, even though very few of them genuinely were, so maybe it's a bit like that. The most outspoken and obnoxious ones were the people clinging to the identity like a novelty toy.

Honestly, do what you do, and I'd agree don't worry about whether it's masculine or feminine or what have you. Do the things you like, dress and act however.
Don't feel like you have to call yourself something, and if you do, don't feel like you have to stick to it just because you once said it was what you were.

Today I was doing some reading on trans characters, so I can write them more correctly, and that led to some reading up on gender stuff. I am AFAB, and have always felt that that was correct. I certainly don't feel like a guy, and I definitely prefer the she/her pronouns. But there is a part of me that really doesn't fit with the cis-female definition. And if I woke up as a guy one day, I wouldn't mind. I also really hate having boobs. So, basically, I'm just having some trouble figuring out what I am.

Insights?

There are three parts to gender:

– Body: our body, our experience of our own body, how society genders bodies, and how others interact with us based on our body.

– Identity: our deeply held, internal sense of self as male, female, a blend of both, or neither; who we internally know ourselves to be.

– Expression: how we present our gender in the world and how society, culture, community, and family perceive, interact with, and try to shape our gender. Gender expression is also related to gender roles and how society uses those roles to try to enforce conformity to current gender norms

I would look into Gender Expression.

A quick thing. I do like labels. They help me understand myself. By labeling myself I'm not restricting myself from anything. I'll move from label to label as often as I need to. So please don't tell me not to label myself, because I want to.

Can I just say that I love that there is a discussion around this? I know so many people (myself included) who go through this journey consistently. I myself am gender fluid and identify more as male, but I am biologically female and do identify as that as well. Or, sometimes, I identify as nothing, or everything at once. My expression changes too, but for the most part I have fairly masculine tendencies. I'm also bisexual.

The coolest part about gender is that there's four parts to it, if they were to categorize it. Gender (binary), gender expression, gender identity and gender attraction/sexuality.

It's all about digging deep and finding what works best for you. Keep asking all the questions! Reach out to people who you feel might be able to help you! Talk about it. :)

FOR THE SEPARATIST ALLIANCE!!!

Sorry, I find it difficult to take a conversation that uses the term cis very seriously.

1.) I wasn't aware that 1 joke was all it took to derail a thread

2.) I wasn't aware that this thread had a "rail" to begin with.

idk you could try to contribute to the discussion a bit or at least find a meme thats funny

like posting "i cant take this seriously" contributes nothing

but discussing why you feel that way, asking questions about each other's positions and why we hold them, taking time to understand, etc, would contribute to the discussion.

just posting some stupid meme and saying you dont take it seriously is a waste of time lol. its not just you specifically but it seems to be becomming a problem around here lately

and so on that note: why dont you?

Being funny is subjective. That's why some people find dark humor funny and others don't.

I've already had the term cis ingrained into my mind to mean the Separatists from battlefront so when people use the term in colloquial dialogue it just comes off as silly to me. Mostly because I'm reminded of the game.

I also don't really feel like asking questions about people's positions on this matter because I really don't care (blunt but honest). My opinion is pretty clear-cut and any opposition is futile at changing my mind at this point. The degradation of society due to stuff like this is occurring faster than anybody can stop it so I feel like we might as well see how deep the rabbit hole goes. Truth be told I think the AIs will destroy us, not somebody living a certain lifestyle.

Tl:dr -The whole thing is a mess and I couldn't care less about people's opinions on transgendered people. I just wanted to have a laugh is all.

Noss Noss dude, you just resurrected a thread from almost 5 months ago to make some lame joke at the expense of trans people. Like, that was totally a necessary contribution, right? Really rekindled the discussion there.

I don't mind the meme; I love memes. Necroing threads is bad, more so if its designated as Personal. But at the very least, it contributes to your post/message count increase, and thus you get a like from me.

You're welcome bro just doing my part as a friendly neighborhood necromancer.
