Personality

Owen is a cool, confident kind of guy. He's a bit cocky, bordering on arrogant, but he's not all bad underneath it.  He's very private about his past, and would only tell someone whom he really trusted, which doesn't come easy. His past has instilled a maturity in him that most people who knew him before would hardly believe. He wants more than anything to make up for the things he did and what he caused. His time on the streets made him an instinctual person, he goes with what his gut tells him without a second though, mostly because hesitation could mean the worst outcome. He isn't reckless, though, and doesn't hesitate to call people out for their own foolishness, especially when that foolishness could get them or someone else killed.

He can be very critical of himself and often pushes people away when they try to get close, the only people who have been with him consistently during his life are his mother and his sister who, despite his troubles, have stuck by him. When he does connect with someone, however, he's as loyal as they come and would (even has) take a bullet for them. Despite his generally rough-and-tumble attitude, he is actually a very compassionate person. He's pretty observant and can usually tell when others are upset or angry, which is useful as a bartender.

Background

Owen was raised by a lower-class mother who had to work three jobs to support him and (later) his sister. They shared a two bedroom apartment in a small town in Oklahoma and things were mostly alright, even without either of their fathers in the picture. His coming of age was not a pretty one, though. His family's situation drove him to hanging out with the local punks and going along with their schemes; shoplifting, street racing, and drugs all fell into his repertoire  over time as he and his group got in deeper. He spend the better part of his teens and early twenties with the group, causing trouble in their small town. When he was 23, though, he met his boyfriend, Nate (a hard thing to do in small-town Oklahoma),  and for the first time in his life he actually felt something for someone other than himself. Nate was everything he wished he could have been: college educated, good job, great family who treated Owen like one of their own when he came around.

Owen and his friends pissed off the wrong people with their schemes, though, and when Owen and his boyfriend were leaving a bar the fall after Owen turned 24, they were jumped by a group of guys that Owen and his friends had had problems with in the past. Things got out of hand when Owen refused to retaliate, because Nate was with him, and one of the guys pulled out a gun and shot at him. Nate pushed Owen out of the way at the last second, getting hit himself. The group panicked and run, leaving Owen with his boyfriend bleeding out on the sidewalk. Nate died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital and Owen hasn't been able to forgive himself since.

After, he got himself cleaned up and got himself a decent job in Oklahoma City at an up-and-coming bar that a friend of his had opened, hoping to leave the past behind him. For a while, he even managed to make a semblance of a normal life for himself, at least until his father visited him one night while he was closing up the bar. Tsukuyomi seemed to step right out of the shadows in a suit sharp enough to cut diamond, which surprised Owen more than anything, since the bar he worked at attracted the more casual types. After the standard "We're closed," Tsukuyomi asked to speak with him, telling him that he was his father. Owen decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and sat down with him. Tsukuyomi explained everything to him--his heritage, his power--and offered him his birthrights. After a bit of convincing, Owen was upset at his father for not helping him in the past, for not saving Nate, but Tsukuyomi talked him down, explaining that he is not allowed to interfere in mortal affairs, and that it broke his heart to see Owen suffer like he had. Owen took the birthrights and his father left, leaving him with a faint scent of dust and a strangely comforted feeling, despite their tense reunion.

His favorite food is salt and pepper squid, something that always disgusted his mom to no end when they got to splurge on Chinese, something that always made his week. To this day he associates it with spending time with his mom and sister.

Approved, sorry for the delay, I was caught up in a nice cocktail of my own pessimism and idiocy. It's really quite a delicious blend, you should try it.

Oh, I've had that one! You should really add a dash of existential crisis and a pinch of self-hatred. It does wonders for the flavor!

No comment on like differential. I tend to get more than a pinch of self-hatred. I dunno, some people don't like it, but I can't get enough of that taste. A healthy dose of paranoia and self-doubt adds a nice, sour tang to things, which is what I usually swap out the existential crisis with. Too much of that sourness tends to overpower anything else, though, especially any self-confidence you have in there.
