RACES

There are five playable races and one sub race in this world that you need to familiarize yourself with. Ok? Okay good. Let’s talk about 'em.

Humans

You know what these are, c'mon now. Bloody you’re one of these, presumably. The majority of the population on both Neth and Satrella is human. Aquano has the highest population of Laguz, but there are still many, many humans there. They’re like ants. Pathetic little asshole ants. As the dominant race of the world, humans tend to have more political power within their governments. They make up for their lack of natural talent by being able to fill many specialized roles. It isn’t uncommon to find that many members of the other races of the world hold a general resentment toward humans and their infrastructures.

Humans possess no inherent strengths or weaknesses.

Laguz

Humanoid creatures with some animalistic features and traits that have the power to transform into a "Primal Form" for combat purposes. It is important to remember that being a Laguz is both a class and a race. If you're a Laguz, you're fighting with a Stone and you're fighting exclusively in Primal Form. There are a fuckton of different types of Laguz, each of which counts as its own class. You can read more about the types of Laguz in the Transforming Branch of the Class Glossary.

Laguz tend to get the short end of the stick throughout history. On both continents, there is a stigma toward them being “sub humans” with varying levels of intensity. However, they are physically capable of enduring more physical stress than humans, so much of their history is bogged down with slavery as well. When the war began in Satrella, Taros legalized the slavery of Laguz and Branded. Ifrin, which is a relatively lawless place aside from the laws of separate tribes. Slavery was pretty much already “legal” in Ifrin, basically if you survive an attack in Ifrin, be it a large scale war between tribes or a simple caravan robbery, being enslaved is just a thing that happens, no matter what your race was. But with Laguz slaves in high demand in the wealthiest country on the continent, many of the tribes that sided with the Alliance went out of their way to capture and sell Laguz.

If you live in Taros or Ifrin, it is also legal to poach Laguz for the fur of their Primal Forms so long as you aren’t stealing them from a slave master. Problem is, nowadays most poachers go to nations with heavier Laguz populations like Aquano or Wynda, especially since there's some pretty exotic Laguz there. It is completely illegal on Neth, however it still happens and chances are if you do it in Palenia, you might be able to pull some strings to get the law to look the other way. Speaking of Neth, slavery is illegal everywhere in Neth, no matter what your race is. Laguz can more or less find widespread acceptance in Fuccino and Herranow.

Between both continents, Satrella has a wider variety of Laguz. Here’s a list of Laguz that are exclusive to Satrella: Jaguars, Panthers, Bears, Parrots, and Bats.

If all this Laguz racism makes you sad, don’t worry. Many Laguz are probably equally if not moreso racist toward Laguz of other tribes. Canine and feline Laguz in particular have a long history of not getting along, as do Rabbits and Raccoons. In Neth, the cultural divides between Laguz are more apparent, whereas in Satrella, they’ve all sort of banded together out of necessity recently.

Laguz have a lifespan identical to that of a human’s. They’re the second most common race between both continents. They come in many sizes with the smallest being the Cat Laguz, which is pretty much the size of a really big dog. The largest would be Bears, which are just a bit bigger than a regular bear. Here’s some examples of what they look like in case you’re confused or imagining something like this.

Wolf Human Form Vs. Wolf Primal Form

Hawk Human Vs. Hawk Primal Form

Manaketes

Manaketes are similar to Laguz in a lot of ways, but they’re a whole different… animal. BA DUM PSH!! Ahem, for one, they're not nearly as physically durable in their human form. For two, instead of turning into animals, they turn into Dragons when in battle. They live far longer than Humans and Laguz, averaging about 1000 years before death. Unlike Laguz they are typically valued for their great wisdom, rarity, and contribution to the earliest known periods of history. They are the most uncommon race between both continents. If you were to go for a stroll anywhere outside of a Satrellian Manakete Settlement, most people would be shocked if they just saw a Manakete kickin’ it on the street.

Manaketes in their human forms can vary in appearance. Some have horns, some don’t. Some have wings, some don’t. Some have tails, some don’t. Some have reptilian eyes, some don’t. The one common trait Manaketes share with each other is their pointed ears. Their scale coloration is dependent on whatever element they embody. This element also determines their tribe and, you guessed it, their class. Go ahead and go to the Transforming Branch of the Class Glossary to find out what types of Manaketes there are.

In Satrella, Manaketes live in small isolated tribes separated by type with varying degrees of isolation from the rest of the world. The most isolated would be Ice Dragons, who are forbidden from leaving Haljorn and they very rarely accept outsiders. They live so high up on the mountain, your average bloke may be under the impression that they don't even exist. The next would be the Thunder Dragons, who live in the Thundering Mountains and protect Thorno's temple. Though it's uncommon for them to leave, it isn't unheard of. Next would be the Fire Dragons, who have their own island on Aquano but they're known to get around, especially the youngsters. And then finally, the Wind Dragons who are so spread out and loosey goosey they don't have any one settlement to call home.

In Neth, Manaketes are slightly more common, especially in Palenia. Manaketes in Neth don’t make a distinction between tribes. A Manakete is a Manakete is a Manakete in Neth, they don’t separate into tribes. However, between the two continents, there is a fundamental difference. Nethite folk consider Ebony Dragons to be either extinct, fictitious, EEEEEEVIL, or a combination of all three. There isn’t a single Ebony Dragon in Neth. Likewise in Satrella, they’re convinced that Ivory Dragons died out hella long ago and are extinct. There isn’t a single Ivory Dragon on Satrella.

Much like Laguz, Manaketes are poached for their scales. However, Manakete scales are much more valuable than Laguz fur. Manaketes are immune to the element of magic they embody, so naturally when you make armor out of their scales… do the math. That shit is highly illegal everywhere but Taros and Ifrin. And if you get caught trying to pull some shit like that in Palenia you may as well kiss your ass goodbye.

In their Dragon Form, Manaketes aren’t like FUCKING huge. They’re only like… a little bigger than horses I suppose. In case you’re confused, lemme show you what Manaketes look like.

Human Form and Dragon Form all in one picture.

Branded

The Branded are what happens when a Laguz and a Human get it on. Or a Manakete and a Human. Basically, if a Human gets it on outside of their race, you get a Branded. Now what is a Branded, you ask? Well they look completely Human by all means (Half Human Half Elven or Manakete Branded tend to have pointed ears)...except for their Brands. Brands are strange tribal tattoo like markings that appear on their skin. Brands are unique to each individual Branded and vary greatly. Some have just one marking they can cover up, others are fucking covered in their brands.

Why would a Branded want to cover up their Brand? They aren’t exactly favored culturally. It’s hard to find acceptance from Humans if they don’t like Laguz or Manaketes, and it’s hard to find acceptance from Laguz or Manaketes, or Elves for that matter but we’ll get to that. So usually if a Branded is smart, they’ll either cover up their brands or find other Branded to live around… or you know… they’ll just live somewhere where there are less racist assholes.

Branded live a lifespan identical to Humans and Laguz. They also receive a special bonus and detriment so listen up. Branded can receive a raise in either Attack or Defense, but you must also lower their Magic or Defense. Keep in mind you aren't allowed to lower a stat if it is already Very Low. Also, I’m putting a cap on these guys. Each player is allowed to make two Branded characters for the recruitable army.

Elves

So we've all heard of Elves, they make toys for Santa and shit. In this world, an Elf is the offspring of a Manakete and a Laguz. Their genetic heritage has granted them a powerful connection to nature and magic.

Elves have long pointy ears, and come in a pretty much all colors of the rainbow. Seriously, these guys tend to look fuckin’ weird. There are common skin tones and types, many of which developed over generations of Elves breeding with each other. There are Night Elves, Blood Elves… with so many species of Manakete and so many species of Laguz, Elves come out varied as fuck. However, for the past few centuries Elves have been on a population rise. Branded were once more common than Elves, now it’s about equal.

In Neth, it’s EXTREMELY hard to find an Elf. They do exist but they are the lower in population due to the cultural differences between the two continents. See, most Manaketes live up north in Palenia, and most Laguz live in Herranow or Fuccino, so there isn’t a lot of opportunity for them to meet. And with a lack of other Elves to reproduce with, most Elves just end up having Branded children. Their lack of a presence makes people weary about them, and they’re often stereotyped as members/leaders of cults.

In Satrella, Elves are far more common, but this is mostly due to centuries of Elf on Elf lovin’ and less of Manakete on Laguz lovin’. Now out in the Satrella, there’s a war going on, a war that involves Laguz getting real fucked over. Elves don’t get the same treatment. They’re widely considered to be a whole different thing from Laguz because they’re physically weaker, but allegedly hella intelligent. In Taros, Elves are encouraged to become magical researchers due to their great aptitude for the arcane. But how do the Elves feel about it? Well, opinions differ between individuals obviously, but as a whole the Elven community doesn’t really give a fuck what’s going on to Laguz. Most would cite two reasons for this. One: Their known heritage is primarily Elven and they have no connection to Laguz or their culture. Two: They do have Laguz relatives but never found true acceptance among them anyway.

Elves live about twice as long as Humans do, and they get a racial bonus so listen up. Elven characters can get a raise in either Magic or Resistance. However, They must take a fall in either Attack or Defense. Keep in mind you aren't allowed to lower a stat if it is already Very Low. I don’t want too many of these guys running around, so you’re allowed to create two per player for the recruitable army.

Vampires

Alright so originally I made this into a Monster but I found a better way to handle this shit. So Vampires aren’t an actual “race” per-say, because anyone can become a vampire so long as they’re willing to withstand the rather painful and degrading ceremony or even worse, if they’re forced to. Howeeeeever, being a Vampire is largely considered to be a disease. Their insatiable blood lust guides them and as far as anyone knows, there is no cure. The disease is said to warp one’s mind as well, but truthfully that’s all dependent on the person. So here we go, let’s talk about fucking vampires in the context of this RP.

You can kill a Vampire in this realm the same way you would kill anyone else. By stabbing them until they stop moving. Or magicing them until they stop moving. Whatever, doesn’t matter, the point is, you don’t have to behead them or break out the garlic. However, barring a gruesome death at the hands of another person, a Vampire will live forever and technically their aging will cease. ANOTHER HOWEVER… the longer they live, the more vampiric they start to look, and the more powerful they get. So basically, if you’re in your first century of eternity, you’ll look more or less like a normal bloke. However, a couple centuries deep and shit you’ll start looking like Nosferatu. Your skin will turn white, and at a certain point you’ll lose the ability to conceal your fangs. For Laguz and Manaketes, whenever they enter their bestial forms they’ll look… well a lot more monstrous and undead and shit. It also gets harder for you to go out into the sun. An ancient vampire wouldn’t dare, they would shrivel immediately. Someone who turned like yesterday would be fine.

Okay is that enough Vampire info? Okay, let’s get into some lore. Nobody’s quite sure where vampirism came from, but everyone has their theories and vampires are somewhat of a boogie man on Satrella. Vampirism has yet to strike Neth, so anyone from Neth would be like, “What the fuck is a vampire?” It just didn’t start over there. Also, Vampirism can be passed on genetically. So there’s that.

Vampires don’t get any special shit for the most part. They just get the UNDEAD Attribute, which kind of sucks for them. You’re allowed to make ONE Vampire for the recruitable army. Just the one.

Breeding Table

Okay so, if you're anything at all like me, you probably value when someone does a thorough job. And well, it just wouldn't be very thorough of me if I didn't explain what happens when people start mixing races. So in an effort to be thorough, I used a race from the Tellius FE game (Branded), and a race I'm sure we're all familiar with, Elves (BECAUSE I FUCKING. LOVE. ELVES.) so that we know what happens when races start mixing and shit. But yo, what happens when Branded and Elves start mixing? What happens when Elves and Manaketes start mixing? What happens when -- okay enough. This table is to show what happens when the five races of The New World start mixing. Enjoy.
