The World & Us, a guidebook for new heroes

The Beginning


I don't know about you guys, but i remember seeing a huge something opening up in the sky. Not just me, but everyone around me too. It was round and yellow in color, then i swear i saw it open and a huge eye staring at us, staring at me. Then something lifted me up into the sky and sucked me into a small white portal, a few seconds later i meet you guys.


Then as everyone knows, we are greeted by the nice Princess who asked us to save the world to which (most) of us refused. Oh, the look on their face when they heard the rejection!

((REAL)) MAGIC


Yes, as you all realize as soon as you left the ritual altar we are all has been granted amazing magic abilities as the 'Heroes of the World'. It may be fire, it may be a guardian creature, and no matter how cool and powerful that remember that this is not a game. DO NOT USE IT TO KILL OTHER HUMANS!! . Don't be a killer, it's not cool. Those people are not NPCs, they are truly alive like you and me. Plus, we are very strong. We are supposed to be the one who kill the Demon Lord, after all.


That's my warning, not more about the magic.


I realize that all of us have different magic, some are even unique as in something that rarely seen on movies and YA novels and stuff. The more i talk to them the more that i realize something:


A certain meathead is very reckless and acted like a bull, that's why he got a fire magic. But it actually goes deeper than that. You see, despite the meathead's appearance and personality in combat he is very nice and friendly. He told he that he wanted to go home quickly, so he can meet her brother and mother. He worried that their father, divorced from his mother, might come and hurt them when he's not around.


The fire magic is not only because he is reckless, but because he is warm and a fire is also used as a protection against wild animals and such.


The property of our magic is also unusual, like how we find out that the meathead's fire could be used to heal injuries! Weird, right?


From this observation, i conclude that our magic is something that comes from within. Our inner desire, our hope and belief mixed with our personality and way of thinking... Each of us are unique. 

HEROES AND BACKTURNERS


The day we arrived here, we are separated.


The Heroes are the good guys who stayed behind. They are sent to the front line, fighting against the scary dangerous demons alongside this world's force. They did great, thanks to them the number of soldiers who died in combat decreased significantly. People sings about them, kids wanted to be like them, they gave them nicknames and titles. People could throw a party to celebrate the Heroes, but i doubt they themselves got any time to do this kind of stuff?


The demons are infinite in number, they always come when everyone is the weakest and when the Heroes are the most tired. I think it's a miracle that none of them are killed yet. I heard that a few Heroes left the front line, trying to find us who ran away. Good luck with that.


Now, The Backturners are us who ran away. Who refused that day. People despise us, sees us as coward and traitor. If they see you they will mock you, and maybe even report you to the soldiers. No one dares to touch you, thought. We are very strong, no one want to mess with us.

Personality (BE DETAILED!!): Alria was always described as promising ruler, but a still inexperienced leader. Or at least, that's what i heard from the librarians and villagers. Everyone loved her, everyone respected her. She's always kind to everyone, refuses to ride a carriage and preferred riding a horse so everyone could see her better. A little bit reckless, too, if you ask me. I heard a lot of whispers about various assassination attempt on her life. But who knows? I mean, there's a thin line between stupidity and bravery.


Background: Alria was the youngest of five. The eldest was a proud member of the military, a man born and raised as King. Her other two brothers left home for other kingdoms, preparing their marriage like her older sister. All of them perished when the demons attacked, destroying the other kingdoms and slaughtering everyone. Only the eldest and Alria was left. The eldest, Roan, was the one who negotiated with neighbouring kingdoms to make an alliance together. They agreed, and so the Alliance was formed. Roan Oriaus was very brave and was very strong. Very handsome and very talented too, but those didn't help him much in the front line against waves of demonic creature. He died leading the catastrophic First Counter, along with hundred thousands of soldiers. Thanks to his failure and death, the human are pushed to Bastion, and what left of the Alliance. So our crown princess here is in a very tight spot, burdened by expectations and duty. The Queen's death is not helping, and everyone wondered why the King hasn't threw in the towel against his incurable sickness. Maybe the old man worries about his little girl?


Magic: If there is something Alria was better at than Roan Oriaus, then it's magic. Specifically, elemental magic. She did not able to use just one, but she is capable of using the four basic elements. Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. She has many tricks up her sleeve, tricks that helped her survive assassins who ambushed her out in the woods and the poisonous food she accidentally ate. She quite a fighter!
